Yep, you can place it to explode nearby rocks, it'll damage you if you're too close though. You can also break the rocks with your pickaxe to find the ladder down to the next floor.

Between season changes you always get a bit of debris spawning. Tall grass will keep growing throughout the season and tree seeds will keep being planted if you have trees around.

Mining can make a bit of money early on with some of the extra gems being sold, but it's mostly about getting materials in the beginning to upgrade and build things.

Foraging is good for getting energy food, and chopping down trees/stumps for material. Fishing you can directly sell the fish when you return home or at willy's shop. You can also save some fish for energy too.

I often don't sell my fish early on and wait until level 5 fishing to get the 25% fishing profession bonus to make more money when I sell them all, but it certainly is one of the best money makers very early on.

Crossplay is not currently possible with Stardew Valley, and it is unknown if it ever will be. According to ConcernedApe there are technical barriers that make it unfeasible. He would like to add it and may start looking into how to do it but currently it is not implemented.
