Trees are one of the primary sources of Foraging EXP to begin with. 12 EXP per tree and 1 EXP for the stump. There are a lot more trees in the valley than forage spawn points, too.

I like trying to reach Lv4 Foraging by Spring 15.
Every 4th level in Foraging, causes wild berry bushes to give an extra berry when it's berry season. Salmonberries are in season on Spring 15, 16, 17, and 18.
Salmonberries are worth very little money, but you can eat them to refill some energy. You can get over a hundred Salmonberries if you manage to reach Lv4 and collect from all the bushes, meaning you will have plenty of energy for a very long time.
