In 1.6 the Insect Head weapon ||got buffed pretty hard||
So you could just kill bugs to get the slayer goal for that

I suggest you to not buy any swords, you will eventually get better swords from drops

I’d purchase whichever weapon deals the highest amount of damage that you can afford.

You could also try going fishing, as the treasure chests you can open sometimes have weapons in them.

Also, as you progress deeper into the mines, some of the chests on the -0 levels have weapons in them. Can’t remember exactly what floors they are, though.
