Nah training rod is actually helpful with xp early on because it gives you a bigger green bar which makes it easier for perfect catches (perfect catches are when you keep the green bar on the fish during the entire minigame)

I wouldn't go back to it tbh, I'd just buy the fiberglass rod when youre like level 3-4 maybe. It lets you use bait which means you'll be hooking fish about twice as fast, making much more money and xp too
