For upgrading your tools go to Clint and he'll tell you how much money is needed and what items are required, to upgrade your pickaxe to a copper pickaxe you're going to need 2,500 gold and 5 copper bars but you should really focus on upgrading a bit later on. And for seeds go to Pierre or jojomart.
