Joja is not good for a first playthrough, to be honest. The community center has you collect bundles to advance, and collecting them and the rewards you get from them introduces you to things about the game in a natural, organic progression. It's like a de facto tutorial for the game. You miss out on that, and some really nice story aspects, when you go Joja.
Not to mention you lose your soul when you go Joja. 😝
