Max luck day can grant an extra .5 potatoes, on average, raising the yield from 5 gpd to 7.5 gpd at the very most if you happen to get very lucky and get a best luck day on harvest day. If you don't have a best luck day, the best you can hope for is .25 extra potatoes, which only raises the gpd to 6.25. Cauliflower is rated at 7.92 gpd from the get-go, no luck required.
I think the confusion stems from the fact that you can't rely on cauliflower to give you big bucks BEFORE the egg festival, so it's best to plant potatoes early in the month. But later on cauliflower wins out.

||Simplest example with the current discussion is 5 cauliflower vs 8 potato seeds, for 200g.

Using the wiki's gpd numbers, cauliflower makes 7.92gpd and potatoes make (conservatively) 6gpd (because maybe luck is a bit low that day). Cauliflower takes 12 days to grow, and potatoes take 6.

ROI/d = gpd/price

That shows what % your investment grows from planting to harvesting.

CROI/d = 7.92/80 or 9.9% growth/day
PROI/d = >6/50 or >12% growth/day

IF you are planning to spend all your gold, or a fixed amount of gold, on either potatoes or cauliflower, potatoes will make you more money per day at the cost of additional hoeing and watering.||

I got roughly 1k wood pieces from all of the trees in Cindersap alone. You do get a fertilizer later. I also saved my seeds, not only for a snack you can make with the tree seeds, but you can also use those seeds to populate your farm to have wood right there if you want.

In my current save file, I planted the seeds by the train. I'm working on growing a regular + hard wood forest over there.
