Don’t over soend so you have money for summer farms (big dinero), I recommend fishing a lot during your first spring and explore the caves so you can get upgrades quickly and get items for bundles. Foraging is important too so don’t neglect clearing out your farm and getting the weeds and wood, wood is used to upgrade your house and farm buildings, so very important

Winter is a good time to do what you've done, and it's easily remedied if you want to plant tree seeds and grass starters.
I don't know if you know this, but if you plant grass starters at the end of Winter, the first day of Spring what you planted will explode with growth something like 40x the original size of what you planted. If you plant a grass starter here and there, you can literally have your entire farm covered in grass on the first day of Spring.

Upgrade axe to copper. Grab the chair you get given with your house. Go down to cindersnap past the travelling cart spot where there is a huge log. Go as close to entering the clearing there as possible. Place the chair diagonally on the other side of the log. Hop on it and youre in to the secret woods, following the clearing. Here you can get 12 hardwood a day from stumps

Also when you destroy stumps you have a chance to get something called a mahogany seed. Plant this in a clearing of your farm or train station or something. This tree will give a lot of hardwood
