I also suggest only heading over there on good luck days since that will help you with finding ladders and ||holes|| under rocks

If you have enough lightning rods then that won’t happen. They make crops wilt too, which is why i put up 5 lightning rods. That seems to work for stopping it so far

Personally, I'd recommend playing the game unmodded the first time. Too much information can actually be counterproductive, causing "paralysis by analysis" when you don't have context for the information.
I'd also recommend going the Community Center route (you'll find out what that means soon enough) and not the Joja route. The Community Center is designed to teach you about the game in a more natural progression.

It's easy to use without getting spoilered. The best use of it is for crop growth charts, which will tell you how long it will take for your crops to ripen. Think of those as using the Farmer's Almanac.
