When two mods both edit dialogue or images, whichever mod loads last "wins" and is the one you see in the game. usually when something's labeled an installer you should look for a file about installing and run it.

Hey friends, what does everyone use to install mods? Am I going to need to install something from Nexus?
Help needed. im modding my stardew and wanted to add grandpa's farm. But smap tells me he could not load this mod due a missing mod named FlashShifter but i can not find this mod on nexus.
You need a program to unzip the mods and you need smap from nexus to put them into the game.
usually uniqueIDs are author.mod_name. So in this case, it's likely SVE (mostly written by FlashShifter) that you're missing

Gotcha. I saw where I can just download SMAPI, so I wasn't sure if I could get the mods through there, or just unzip them and toss them in a folder.
The less I have to navigate nexus or use its' programs the better, but if I gotta, I gotta.

Wait, do you not have SVE installed at all?
You can't use Grandpa's Farm without SVE. It's a farm map specifically made for that mod.
i took everything the expended told me. what sve do i need ?
The main file on the Nexus page where you would have downloaded Grandpa's Farm.
and grandpa's told me no other mods that i needed
It's tied to SVE, which in itself is a big expansion mod that adds a lot of new content. If you just want the farm map, I would recommend looking for a different, standalone map.

that link lists the correct versions for the dependencies for Android.
weird phenomenon: suddenly, after i updated walk of life, my mead no longer is anything except "mead". no tulip mead, no blue jazz mead, no modded flowers mead. it doesnt even appear in cjb cheats as anything other than just "mead". and... it pretty much defeats the entire purpose of my beehouse collection, because now the hard cap on "mead" price is 400g. my log doesnt show any issues... do you guys want it anyway?

That's a replacement config for Automate! Rather than putting it in your Mods folder, you'll want to put the config file directly in the Automate folder. Overwrite or replace the old config if you have one!

someone please help, my stardew wont launch unless its the compatibility version and when i try to launch it on the normal version with smapi, it says it failed to create a graphics device. ive tried pretty much everything i could find- updating my drivers, reinstalling stardew and steam, restarting my laptop multiple times, etc. i seriously just cant figure it out. i can show the error message and stuff if that helps at all

@lavish marlin Hi ! sorry to bother but I had a weird issue when playing in multiplayer. Everyone had latest Sprite Master from github (0.15.0-alpha.0) and SVE latest from nexusmods installed.
Seems I was the only one (I was the host) receiving an error related to Sophia schedule parsing at the beginning of each new day.

where could you see that ? All is by default in my generic menu mod except the option for "Basic text" (I have it disabled) because activating it leads to off-place text in ChestEx mod menu for setting the chests
Generally, line numbers don't work on Linux/macOS for some reason, they won't be shown if the mod doesn't include a .pdb file (which the mod build package includes by default), and Harmony patches probably mess with line numbers too. Probably Harmony in this case.

meaning that multiple people updated TileIndexProperties at the same time
@tired brook can the same Tile object be referenced by multiple GameLocations?
That shouldn't happen normally (though there's nothing which prevents a mod from doing that in theory). Tile index properties are shared between every tile with that index + tilesheet though.

ok so my game keeps crashing usually in the first day of playing, i verified all my files it said two were missing and replaced them. when i verify the files smapi turns off so i have to turn it back on. it kept happening anyway so I removed all the mods to try to sort through them one by one to find the culprit. but its just SMAPI. everytime i enable it those two files go missing.
this didnt happen for the first 4 hours of playing but once it started it hasnt stopped

Hi the mod: ZeldaLTTPMonsterReplacer gets an error and the error says its not a smapi mod, anyone know how to fix it?
I'm trying to get the Heelies mod to work for local multiplayer. I have tried
- Changing steam input to make a controller button be a keyboard key
- Editing the config.json file to add controller buttons instead of the Space key
Either one of these results in both of us being able to control the others heelies. So when I hold RightTrigger, it engages the heelies for me, AND player 2. We can't engage them individually without doing it for the other player.
How can I fix this? I really want to use this mod, it's really fun lol

It is not a mod, it's the default control scheme for Stardew
I guess what I'm asking for is to be able to remove a default controller binding in Stardew
if you're using Steam for controller support, I believe you can remap in steam settings
True, but if I were to remove Button Y from Steam, then Stardew will not register me pushing it at all. So the mod won't see it either.
opening via terminal opened the game no issue. however opening through steam/vortex/explorer (Shortcut) nothing happens

(maybe? Sometimes the game tries to draw the window in an invalid location and it just appears to crash)
When i open the stardewapi.exe the ui and resolution is fucked and it says on the wiki to make sure the dpi is the same as the regular exe but when i open the high dpi settings i have no clue what to change?

Can someone help? Shane's just sitting/standing in bed and cycling through a bunch of sprites. No errors in Smapi. I tried picking up the bed to fix it but now he's jsut doing it while standing.

I have 2 ssds, one with win 10 and another with win 8.1, the second is the one I use to play stardew, and I chose to use mods for.
just that even being on win 8.1, downloading the smapi installer on it, it keeps looking for the win 10 files folder, and this error appears "Unable to access the file by the system".
at this moment the folder he is trying to find the files is shown, a win 10 folder, does anyone know how I can change the search location?

it crashes within 5 minutes when i try to verify it on steam after enabling smapi it tells me two files failed to verify which i have recently found out is steam_appid.txt and StardewValley when i launch the StardewValley file it does pop up with this error Galaxy auth failure: FAILURE_REASON_INVALID_CREDENTIALS
but thats the only error message i have come across. as soon as smapi is installed both of those files are lost
im super close to just wiping my computer and seeing if that does anything

Yeah so after marrying Shane it got worse. Ian was stuck in the wall south of his spouse room and Shane was missing from the map entirely despite bring on my farm.
I deleted free love + immersive spouses incase there was a conflict. Plus Immersive Spouses is supposed to change spouse schedules. I also deleted my save because I decided I'm gonna start over and not be indecisive this time so I don't make my game a buggy mess.

If your resolution is messed up try deleting startup_preferences This can be found on Windows at %appdata% > Stardew Valley > it's in that folder, or C:\Users\Yourwindowsnamehere\AppData\Roaming\StardewValley or for Mac can be found at ~/.config/StardewValley To get here you'll want to go to your desktop, then in the menu bar select Go -> Go to Folder...
i cant find startup preferences
are you able to locate stardew's appdata folder?

type %appdata% in the windows search bar and that will open a folder that has a folder named StardewValley in it

Hi im trying to play modded discord with my boyfriend, and his steam launches his smapi just fine but when I run it on my mac it launches without steam and then steam says im playing a game called Spacewars, which I have never downloaded. we only downloaded stardew expanded mod and its counterparts. Im not able to play with him because I need it to work with steam in order to join him.
Any ideas?
Did you set the launch file path to the StardewModdingAPI in Steam?
no, but he didnt have to and it worked just fine for him

On MacOS you usually have to go under Steam, the settings tab, and then (advanced) launch file path
You can then navigate to where you added the mods, find the StardewModdingAPI file, and, while holding Shift, right click and hit copy file path
Paste that into the Steam bar and it should work!

Itβs possible the game zoom is set to one thing and you are trying to change an active file so it resets the other.

I installed Stardew Valley Expanded, but the smapi log is telling me that the dialogue files are without json files. But when I look into the files themselves, they very much have them.
What if i unpack the xnb which will become png and yaml i will delete the orig png and put in the png i got from nexus and packed it back will that work?
Honestly, most of us avoid XNBs like the plague they are. Youβll just have to try it yourself

It seems like you didnβt install SVE correctly. Are you using Vortex? Itβs common for Vortex to screw up Stardew mods, manual installation is preferred

I would recommend beginning by removing Stardew Valley Expanded mod and reinstalling it, extracting it, and adding the inside mod file to mods

Whenever I try to launch Stardew with or without SMAPI, (I tried uninstalling it and it still didn't work) it starts running and then goes back to the green "Play" button on Steam. When SMAPI is installed, the error message below pops up saying it failed to create a graphics device. I'm using Windows 11 and it's been working up until 2 days ago when I tried to use the Stardew Valley Expanded mod. I've tried pretty much everything I could find and I keep seeing that I have to update my drivers but I did and it says the best driver is already installed and doesn't need updating. I've also tried uninstalling Stardew Valley and Steam itself and restarting my laptop multiple times but nothing seems to be working. Can anyone help with this?

Honestly it sounds like a Windows update screwed you up, or an Intel integrated GPU driver update (assuming you have an Intel igpu)

I fixed it! I'm not sure exactly what I did but it also fixed my brightness slider and the sudden enlarging of everything on my laptop. It now runs with or without SMAPI. Thank you this was really frustrating.

In my device manager, I had these two and I kept only trying to update them, but I didn't realize that the top one was disabled for some reason. When I enabled it, everything started working.
in general, it's best if all players have the same mods installed. however:
- reskins are fine to use
- changed mechanics might work or not
- anything else will break the game

Well there are a few ways I would venture

Personally, I recommend looking at what the existing sprite file name is in Slightly Cuter Sprites mod and then, moving one by one the new mod sprite files into that same folder, renaming the new the identical name and then deleting the old. It depends on your file set up the specific order I suppose but essentially, just putting the sprites in the character folder and matching the name so the mod knows what to grab should work

It should work out to be something like moving βLeah_Fallβ into the Leah sprites file of Slightly Cuter Sprites and then changing the same to βLeahβ (or whatever the original there is; I forget exactly) and removing the old/preexisting one. Repeat for each sprite sheet and then character so forth.

reposting in here to see if anyone could help me. iβm on a mac I have wiped my whole computer and have started from scratch but the problem is still happening. whenever I enable smapi 2 files files fail to verify steam_appid.txt and StardewValley. this causes my game to crash within 5 mins of starting the day. I restore them and smapi disables. once I enable it again it happens again. no clue why this started happening cause I played for 5 hours with no problem. if anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it

seems like just a regular log though so it doesnβt help much
on mac smapi replaces the StardewValley file with a modified version, so it's normal that it fails to verify, might be the same for steam_appid.txt. if you can reproduce the crash, taking the log after it might might help figuring out why it's crashing

I think I have some kind of mod conflict. About 10% of the time I talk to any NPC, they say "It was the first time I've seen one of those there in a while...", and then something about 'it' smelling either good or terrible, and then "I'm glad Pierre's stock is starting to expand again". Any ideas what mod it could be, or a way to narrow it down without testing/disabling swaths of my modlist?
I had a similar issue but maybe its not the same thing. When I tried playing on my mac it gave me an error in smapi saying steam_appid.txt failed to verify and removing ""G:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\StardewModdingAPI.exe" %command%" from launch options as well as turning off steam cloud fixed it. You could be experiencing something different but I thought I'd throw that out there...

hey, so im planning to use the "unlimited players" mod to start a farm with around 6 people. however, after reading the comments, ive seen a lot of people complain about it being unplayable as players get kicked very often. can anyone speak for this? and are there any other more stable alternatives to increasing the 4 limit cap? thank you!
@ArcaneDescent @JessYoMama You can do it without a mod. Go to %appdata%/StardewValley and open the file called startup_preferences. ctrl + f for "playerLimit" and you'll find something like this: <playerLimit>-1</playerLimit>.

On Steam: In your library, right-click Stardew Valley and select Properties... > Betas > then "compatibility" under the dropdown.
On GOG: From the game's page, click the settings icon > Manage installation > Configure... > then "compatibility" under the Beta channels dropdown.

nah, it's just in the deshuffling code - as long as you didn't see any ja shuffle you're fine

The Yri error is two extraenous spaces in her animationDescriptions
what is "npc shuffle"? SVE moves NPCs around
what i meant with npc shuffle is i got a letter that npc x is my secret friend
but in reality it was someone completely different (had to talk to all the npc's to figure out who it actually was)

Two things
(a) if you were to check the letter right before going, it would have told you the right person
(b) in theory that should only happen if someone added or removed an NPC exclusion
in practice I believe the game did a bad and is relying on pre-NET 5.0 behavior here.

i married victor from sve, i havent seen a similar bug online so maybe its just me
doesn't matter who you marry, as long as you ahve any txml spouse room installed it can do that
if you're only going to marry victor though, you can remove every other mod spouse's spouse room and be fine
oh i dont have that installed, i cant pinpoint when this bug happened because i only noticed it when i got a cellar and then changed the kitchen floor

I press manual dowload on the screenshot you snet wait for it to download, then i bring it to my desktop right click and press extract files, then when its ready i put it in the mods folder in stardew valley

It skipped stardrop because none of the files are manifest.json
I don't see why it wouldn't work on Windows 11. Though as they say, you've been extracting your mods wrong. I've seen the same issue from someone else in the past. Can you try reinstalling those mods and select "Extract here" instead of "Extract to folder.."?

Also, iirc even with "Extract all" there should still be another drop-down that lets you pick how you want to extract them?

I can't understand your windows screenshot because it appears to be full of unfamiliar icons, but the issue still seems to be that Quest Framework is entirely missing
Also, having a loose manifest there seems bad
Finally, I believe SMAPI looks under "Mods", not "mods", although I'm not entirely sure that this matters

Honestly, I think something went wrong in one of your steps. It looks to be working fine for most.

Not an issue, it's just Smapi telling you that having Pytk may decrease performance a bit.

Yri's town overhaul is already a recolor on it's own. Things may look funky if you get another recolor.

Smapi says it loaded it fine but I don't see it anywhere. Tried removing the single npc that lives in the forest (Though nowhere really near where the Mouse is supposed to stay, but I had to be sure) but it made no changes.
Iirc I tried long time ago to remove my mods and only have Tailor Mouse + Frameworks + A supported JA pack, but it didn't succeed. Though I could be remembering it wrong.

So, idk if its a bug or not, but most of the times the music from the game just stops. It comes back after like 2-3 transitions between locations. I'm playing with mods and some of them requires the Custom Music mod, but I don't use anything that changes/adds songs to the game. Since there is no error (log), Idk what to do xD
