So stardew valley says “An error occurred while updating stardew valley (missing executable)” and I deleted some files while trying to uninstall smapi yesterday… did I accidentally delete a game file??

recently i've noticed that sometimes when i start up the game, before the day actually starts, i hear a blast of noise (a combination of my animals' cries) and the animal window randomly showing up. sometimes after ending the day and proceeding to the next day, the same sound occurs again but the game just crashes. i'm not sure what mod is causing it, but here's the crash log from the last time it happened:

Best is subjective, I haven't played with many different mods that add crops - but I have used this and was blown away by the quantity, you can also search Nexus for just "JSON" and download the packs you want

The latest released version of PPJA (Project Populate Json Assets, a popular mod) is a conversion from JA to DGA, but it has some bugs in it, and the mod author has retired. Sticking with the older JA version is probably your best option.
You can download the JA version from the Old Files section on Nexus, or by downloading the latest versions of the standalone components instead of the megapack (except for Farmer to Florist, where you would need to look under Old Files in the standalone version).

i do have a child her name is velma (yes the scooby doo character) i don't think she's about to age up but she just aged up like 2 or 1 days ago to the stage where you can throw them in their cribs
Check SVe and make sure they havent just added a character called Velma.
It seems unlikely but most kid errors I've seen have been due to them sharing names with npcs
also if i wanted to use mods could i download the mods, put them on the mods folder, then use it on a different save file, and delete it when i want to go back to my other save file without the mod being used in the other save?

Is there a way to add more memory to the game? not like "buy a whole new card" or anything .. but like Minecraft where you can allocate more to the program ... trying to load 300 mods is a pain but I just cant weed any out they are all so fun to play 🙂 (sorry if this isn't a mod question.. My next advice is to remove mods until it works then figure it out based on that, but that is problematic since you would need to save. Although if you have stuff in your shipping bin it should crash before the shipping screen if its gonna crash.
i don't think mods are the problem because
1- i downloaded cjb menu after the problem
2- i've had all the other mods for a while and this problem hasn't occured
i was kegging my stuff using automation mod and junimo chests and now the wine is gone

I have a 64 bit operating system , 64 based processor and 32 gigs of ram .. so if it should be doing so .. im not sure why it takes 10 mins to load the game 😦 thanks for reply though ...
If you have an antivirus installed, that might be a culprit
more RAM rarely speeds up anything
Might have gone into another chest. Check for chests attached to any machine group connected to the junimo chest.
If you have PyTK installed, that also slows down loadup
If you have hundreds of mods, that slows things down
I hear you can set the "process affinity"
If you've got Chests Anywhere, that's an easy way to check
But I know nothing about Windows

(honestly nowadays all third party antivirus software is worse than the stuff they protect against. the built-in Windows Defender stuff is good enough)
I just have the one that is on by default... windows defender or something ... when I download anything it will ask if I truly want to and some things it won't allow at all even if i try to force it... I didn't add any on my own... not even sure how the one I have was turned on 😦 not smart when it comes to that stuff

Hi, i'm playing a heavily modded stardew game
i got the slime hutch, and hatched 7 slimes so far
Every single one that hatched has been female
at this point I'm starting to think it's not bad luck, but a problem with one of the mods
Can anyone help me identify which one, and how to fix it?
What you could try to do to test that theory is spawn in like 100 slime eggs and see if they all end up female (and of course don’t save after)

i just pull it down then hit it against the top left of the screen and it fixes it for a second until i open my menu, but it does get annoying
I accidently json shuffled myself and wondering if there's a way to fix that, cause a bunch of clothes and a tree have gone invisible.
So if you turn on data mining fields in Lookup Anything (I use GMCM for this), then when you F1 on an item and scroll down you can find its original name and then spawn it in using CJB Item Spawner (works best if you delete the “bad” item first, otherwise they merge and idk the implications of them merging)
But the missing items have disappeared from Item Spawner as well
Like a whole bunch of clothes are just gone

To reduce json shuffle I’ve converted all my clothes to Fashion Sense
I wonder if I were to remove the mods from my mod folder. Run the game, delete the items from chests and stuff. Then sleep and close. Then put the mods back, if it would fix it

is there a list anywhere of best practices for avoiding sudden drops during multiplayer with light mods? we've experienced quite a few in a 4-person MP game with only NPC locations, auto gates, and custom graphics.

The only advice I've really found is to try Hamachi, restart routers, ensure firewalls are clear -- tried them all to no avail. Others can join but randomly DC once a day or so.
I dont know enough about mp to help, but theres a user on this discord that does co op. He says that using a direct ip helped with disconnects
also no, assuming its content patcher, all of the code is written in english so there shouldnt be any problems, its just the actual dialogue thats in a diff language

heyo, was just wondering if someone could give me a hand. im helping a friend install a few mods, and when they try to run content patcher, its sending this error code. we tried uninstalling and reinstalling SMAPI, uninstalling/reinstalling content patcher, checked to see if the content patcher they have is the updated one, etc. any advice?

so i'm trying to run stardew valley expanded, which worked fine two months ago with no issues, however, after updating the mod through nexus mod manager i'm running into some weird issues, i will be posting a couple screenies momentarily
me and me cousin are using the PPJA set of mods, and for some reason its showing parsley as a completely different object for me and other things are the same, any ideas why this might be?

If you're using a mod manager and ask for help troubleshooting, we probably can't help you if the issue is related to the mod manager. You can try asking the mod manager servers for help instead.

A Json Shuffle is when your Json Assets items rearrange their numerical IDs or different players have different numerical IDs assigned to the same object. See here for details: https://stardewmodding.wiki/wiki/Json_Shuffle
Anytime you change your JA mods you can risk a shuffle. In multiplayer, you need to have exactly the same mods in exactly the same order as your friends.
Anytime you have a shuffle and then solve it, old objects may remain affected but new ones should be fine. You can sell or trash the old items, and spawn in new ones if needed with CJB item spawner.

No, it's not a fun dance. The Json Shuffle (or Json Scramble, as it is also known) is what happens when you add or remove a Category:Json Assets mod and then continue playing your save. The IDs of your items are likely to get mixed up (shuffled, if you will) and where once you had a blood orange you might now have a lucky clover or a sword or wh...

It wasn't in SVE, it wasn't in ES
To avoid confusion: Vortex, MO2, NMM do things in specific ways and for most games they are fine. But there are some games where you might not use them even if they support them. SDV is one of them. Hence why it's better to go manual for this one. I think there's another mod manager specific for SDV, but I never used it and forgot the name.

Its a pack for fashion sense, which adds an item called a mirror in which you can change clothes, add hats, pants. Things like that. Because it adds a new item, I think its best for all players in mp to have it

It might actually be ok in MP? the mirror is just a fancy milk pail iirc. I'd still rec other players install it too just in case, they can always skip using it.
is it the mirror(too)? I remember using AT and the paint bucket turned into a weird tool amalgamation of milk pail, pickaxe, and shears for like a day

I thought they used mod data to ensure the tool functionality, as opposed to custom subclassing, but I could be wrong

This will tell me the context tags for the apple pie item, because I'm wondering if they changed in recent updates. I'm personally not using SMAPI 3.14 yet

Hi! I'm having some issues getting a CP mod to load. It says it cannot load because it has no content.json, but I'm looking right at it so it definitely does. Is there anything that could be causing this (or alternatively, anything I can do to fix it)?

there arent any errors as far as im aware so i figured it was just a thing with my npcs being in korean/japanese and my game language being in english, but the npcs themselves work and all of their dialogue works fine after being translated
its just the names that are busted 
Oh, if the game isnt using korean/japanese font then it will mess up their names, maybe try changing their display names?
Going into their content.json and finding a npcdisposition, change the last part(which is their display name) and changing that to english

Any idea why Stardew would be starting up on a white screen (not responding)? No SMAPI errors for my friend, and its only happening to my him.

What do you mean?
One thing that happens sometimes is people accidentally putting the SMAPI terminal into Select Mode and then getting confused when the game appears to be frozen
It's a very easy fix: press enter or esc if you accidentally highlight stuff on the terminal
It's happened multiple times.
also note that if you have a lot of mods the game might take a while to load esp on slower computers
there's some beta versions of SMAPI and Content Patcher that improve performance
Well, his computer can load Elden Ring just fine (network errors aside). And this issue only started happening today.
& also a log would be helpful even with no SMAPI errors
We were in summer, and waited like 10-15 minutes for it to launch the main menu. Not using PyTK or TXML and it only takes 50-ish seconds on my computer, usually only takes about a minute for him.

Late to uploading the log, but here it is. Dynamic Night Time and [FS] Swords on the Back have the wrong versions in the manifest.json, they're up to date.
I don't think updating mods will fix the issue, since we just updated every mod except Content Patcher. The error only happens on my friend's end, not mine. We have the same versions of mods and same config.jsons

if it says you can update the mod but you already did then you need to manually change the version number in the manifest.json

I'm playing Co-op with 1 other person, me being the host. Initially we didn't have any problems but now every time they go south of the farm to load into the area with Marnie's house they start getting this error repetitively. I believe it first started after I watched the sewer cutscene.

my game keeps freezing when interacting with a certain custom npc
That's not going to fix the actual problems, though. I was uploading the logs because my friend's game won't load. SMAPI appears to be fine, but the second the Stardew Valley window opens, it's a black screen that turns white (program is not responding). I guess I could be wrong but.. I don't think I've ever had an issue stemming from a mod w/ the wrong update key.

hey every time i play stardew i get a message in my log that says "No idea what 'Batter' is!" and "No idea what 'Sesame Seeds' is!". in case anyone is curious, the way i fixed this is i found the mods that these ingredients came from (artisan valley and hisame's new recipes), deleted the foods from the JA file that use the problem ingredients, and now the game works fine. wouldn't have been able to make those anyway cuz the ingredient was broken so really no loss, and now lookupanything doesn't get confused about them anymore

remap the button to something that's not a function key (ie f1, f2, etc.). Some keyboards force you to press Fn to activate function keys

Generic Mod Config Menu (or GMCM https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/5098) adds the option to edit some, but not all, mod configs from either the title screen or the options page in a save. It also has a special screen to edit keybinds for all mods with GMCM integration.
The presence of the gear it adds to the title screen is not a method for checking whether mods are installed, only whether GMCM is installed.

Hey! I've been trying to fix this for days now, but haven't found a solution. The map and the game doesn't correlate, as seen on the screen shot.
I loaded the game as usual, and I tried opening one of my chests but it just made the opening noise but I couldn't access it. I tried putting another chest in another cabin but it worked fine, and I could remove it with my axe. So it's only happening in my house
I've been having problems in split screen, as my partner and i play the ram usage slowly ramps up and after about 3 hours of playing the game starts stuttering constantly. it happens with no mods installed besides SMAPI, and it doesn't happen at all in single player or even in online multiplayer, only split screen. Every 5 seconds or so itll freeze for 5 seconds before resuming. Every few minutes but especially in map transitions it freezes up to 2-3 minutes before responding. ive tried a fresh install of all mods and of stardew, and when trying to parse my error log on the smapi website, my slow internet fails before it finishes so i cant even do it with that. is there any other way to share the smapi log?
It's not just chests, dressers, jukebox and catalogs also didn't work and I couldn't remove them
If you close and reopen the game does that fix things

It wasn't trash, I restarted the day for other reasons, now it's labelled as trash, when I opened the config to check if something was wrong, somehow it changed back to fertiliser, and now it's trash again o.O

I think it was the fashion sense mod, I had a clothing item and a hand mirror inside tlmy chest and dresser so that's why I couldn't access or remove them. I had to delete my save file but all is good now 
I made a new game and everything worked perfectly

there's no separate version that I see, it is just recommended to either restart the game completely, or delete the boots folder

imo you shouldn’t use multiple expansions at a time (expansions being things that add new cities etc) but you should be good to install things like PPJA, Artisan Valley, and Fashion Sense (I recommend those btw they’re great)

You could play SVE with another expansions since most of them are compatible with it
However, it is recommended to play it on a new save rather than an existing ones because you’re gonna get tons of cutscenes.

Hi, im having an issue with hair in my save file, where after about looking through 50 of the hairs they all appear bald for apparently over 4k times and im not sure how to fix it :(( i have a lot of mods installed but when i went to start a new save it was fine and I could get all the other hairs but the save im on is currently 2+ years and im trying to go for perfection so Im not sure what to do :((
what hair mods do you have? I'd disable old hair mods, maybe one of them causes issues
get glam might cause that iirc, not 100% sure tho...
I also had a similar issue so I just converted all of my hairstyles to Fashion Sense

it just means the author didn't put update keys in the manifest

Hi there, I've spent the last two hours trying to find either the quest id or the mail id for the "reach lvl 25 in the skull cavern" from Qi. My friend and I have a heavily moded server (mostly aesthetics, but also RSV and Stardew expanded) we're not really sure why we never received the letter from Qi, I even went to lvl 25 just to see if something would trigger and it didn't. So now I'm at the point of just spawning it in via smapi but I can't figure out where to get the ids, when I go into the xnb file it's basically in another language, not sure if there is a specific program I need to open them with.

Whenever I'm in split screen mode, the game just crashes and dies when the 2nd player leaves. Have 1.5.6 and the latest SMAPI - ofc when I remove all the mods aside the "default ones" this doesn't happen.

Hey, I keep trying to install SMAPI on my macbook and when I install it and try to open the game I always keep getting this error "“open-smapi-terminal.sh” can’t be opened because open is not allowed to open documents in Terminal."

Is there any way to make a player offset on the map while on your farm to make it correlate to the game?
a world map that is made for the farm map should work i guess. or does the native game not display the player on the map somewhat accurately usually?

Has anyone had trouble with items not showing above their character when receiving them?
Yes!
Ex: When you get "Pink Cake" from the mail, or an upgraded tool from Clint, or "Leah's Sculpture" as you exit the farmhouse, etc, you usually hold the items above your head when you receive them. However, none of items are showing for me. My character just has his hands up with nothing above it lol
If you have NMM or vortex installed, that still could be messing it up.
But it seems unlikely.

Okay, it's not an issue, it's a bad mod feature. It adds eye shade, but instead of actual shade, which is darker than chosen color, it's always brown

It says the SpaceCore mod if uninstalled could corrupt save files or make save files unusable
But it was needed for Json
I mean generally if you uninstall mods it will have adverse effects on the saves you used them on, so it’s recommended that you start new saves to be used with mods.

I’ll try to give you a concrete example…
You have 2 saves that were created in vanilla, without any mods, that you only ever play without mods. These will not be affected by Spacecore in any way.
You have a save where you started it with SpaceCore and saved it with mods. If you remove the mods, you’ll still be able to load the save, but the things modded in will be gone and it will behave strangely, like if you removed a farm mod and placed stuff outside the space of vanilla youd have items placed out of bounds
So basically be careful? And when wanting vanilla, remove the code from the launch option?

You can have a modgroup with an empty folder so that the game plays as vanilla
Just as another option if you don't want the hassle of editing the launch options each time
Or you can always just remove all mods and play with only smapi. As far as i know, smapi itself doesn't add anything

The only mods that don't require smapi are xnbs and they're a giant no, no?

i am back again, because a manual install did not seem to work
i followed the instructions to the letter but this is what i get. seems to be the same "i can't do this" problem from using the automatic installer
i turned off avast for the moment but that didn't seem to help either
i'm not sure how relevant it is, but i seem to be able to use curse forge to edit/install mods, but i just can't... run the game modded.

like, visual has all Seasonal Outfits and the game recolor, AT is all the Alternate Textures, the CORE and EXPANSION ones are... well you know, the mods that are usually needed or the ones that are only needed in Ridgeside and such. and I have the tilesheets installed but in another folder bc another mod needed it too, so it went to CORE

yeah you should definitely be able to do it then! but it sounds like the manifests might be missing? which may point to a download issue

Check the zips of the complaining mods again for the structure / manifest.json.
it happened when I downloaded the update for Alternate Textures- I had to put everything in the main folder, play the game, close it and put everything in its folder again bc it said it didn't have json
it doesn't say which mods are complaining, it just says it'll skip entire folders

Do all my mods have to be in just the MAIN mods folder or could I create subfolders? Eg. Clothes folder for all clothing related mods, PPJA for all PPJA related mods.
I have all my mods in folders for organization without issue
it's tedious but I think you're going to have to check the folders inside AT, ADD ON, etc and make sure all the mods have a manifest file.
I would go through them 1 by 1. However to shorten the progress you might leave one of the "main folders", start the game and check if smapi complains.
Which is why I wouldn't have moved all of them at once to be honest.

yeah that's what's weird
Make a new "mods-folder" on your desktop (or wherever). Take the mods which smapi loads and put them in the new folder (considering them "working").
Also check if any of the subfolder from the mods contain "weird symbols" (can happen i.e. with mods from asian sites or something like that).

She may need to uninstall everything - including gamepass - and reinstall everything to get it to move to Xbox something dir

And she definitely needs to launch through Gamepass
then no mods
(Otherwise it won't count as logged in)

No limit, but the first folder that has a .json file is what SMAPI will think is the mod
So if SMAPI thinks a top-level folder is a mod, then nothing below it will be loaded
market day works fine for the host rn but all the farmhands can't shop and sometimes the textures don't even load anyone have ideas?
