Okay here's a fun thought, how about going to your recycling bin and undoing whatever you deleted in the smapi folder?
You can always redelete it if it doesn't work.
Makes sense you're updating it.

After you undo your deletes and the installer doesn't work again, can you try rebooting your PC and delete "StardewModdingAPI.dll"?
Did you manually delete the files or run the installer and deleting it through there?

- Complete/cancel any custom quests/special orders

Hi I have a sort of weird question -- is it possible to experience json shuffle even if you haven't added any new items? I just updated CP and SMAPI to their latest versions, opened up my save file, and all my shirts are pretty much wrecked? This has happened to me twice this month, and I had assumed it was a Json shuffle b/c it had previously coincided with my adding a few asset packs but this time I definitely did not do that. Furthermore, I cannot spawn the items back in. They're ruined in CJB spawner as well. Previously I have rolled back a day and that has fixed the problem, but I'm not sure what's going on. This is the third time in less than 2 weeks...in one instance when I added json assets to a completely different save file (a save file I use for testing purposes).

Has anyone tried running with Steam Linux Runtime - Sniper?
The stutter running through linux is like, unbearable.
(I personally haven't, and my guess is very few people use Linux to start with, so you are unlikely to get an answer. What I can say is that if the stutter goes away for SMAPI 3.13.4, then I can ping you into a thread where Pathos is looking at performance improvements)
That is, 3.14.4 = stutter, 3.13.4 = no stutter => Pathos is looking into this issue
If you have stutter in both, that means likely the game itself is unhappy with your computer (i.e. it started with the framework switch in Nov 2021)

I can give it a try - This is apparently a recurring issue with whatever distro linux Valve is using for the deck, so I'm worried the issues gonna be mass reported as the deck gets more and more available.

By all accounts it doesn't really matter, a few people note the issue just on linux standalone

If SMAPI would load if set to run in compatiblity layers with proton, that'd basically be all needed to fix it.

the first 6 or 7 shirts are displaying fine and then everything else looks like a graphical nightmare lol

If that fixes what the shirts look like, you should be able to fix the shuffle as normal

I'm actually inclined to think it's a Game issue, not a SMAPI issue after doing a bit more debug. SMAPI disabled the game still stutters. Running through Proton allows the game to be smooth, which is great if you want to play the unmodded version 😂

I don't know anything about Proton, but if you ping Pathos it's possible at some point he will have time to look into Steam Deck issues

If you have experience in C# you could also try asking in #making-mods-general for people to help you set up profilers or discuss the issues in more technical depth
For example, I know some people have been forking SMAPI to add in profilers to try to narrow down some of the performance issues

I just discovered that a lot of the issues the base game has on Linux with stuttering can be resolved by just running in Proton, but running through Proton disables SMAPI for some reason. I think just allowing it to launch through Proton should circumvent the several linux-related things people are gonna ask about 😂

Is anyone else having problems with Sandy’s 5 heart event (SDV expanded) when I accept to give her a tour of my farm the whole event loops.
The SMAPI console application won’t load up on the Xbox Gamepass whenever I press play, the instructions on the website are outdated for installing SMAPI also, because I renamed the ModdingAPI to Stardew Valley and renamed the OG to something completely different and it still won’t launch the SMAPI console

Seems you have a pretty old version for some reason; the one I have is 2205.1001.6.0.
You might need to fully uninstall & reinstall the game next, so it's installed in the newer way.

I have an issue in which Willy does not show up behind his shop counter, but his shop can still be used. He will show up when he walks to the saloon and in events, but is not present behind his counter, not even as an invisible entity. (For the record, the errors of missing characters in the Anthro mod are intentional, as I only wanted certain characters with the new sprites, however Willy does have both his portrait and overworld sprites in, and everything works fine when he isn't at the counter)

I would personally properly deal with the errors and see if it helps. You can either
- delete the lines in the Content.json that refer to the characters/assets you deleted
- add a When hasFile to all the entries in content.json to remove the errors

tbh you're better off writing your own cp mod for the sprites you want to keep, it should be fairly easy (since its not seasonal) You dont have many mods which is why this error is really weird

I've no clue how to mod, so I'll stick with deleting the lines I do not require. I'm not sure if that will solve Willy though, as I do have his sprites
Add z to the start of the folder name to make it load last since Pytk mods need to load last so that no other mods interfere with its patching
sve doesnt add any sprites to willy, and the sprite mod is properly updated for 1.5. If the problem persists you could maybe try verifying your files if you use steam

the mod doesnt seem to use a framework, and instead works on its own code. It might just be sending empty mail for the npcs birthdays? Im not really sure, you dont have many mods that seem to conflict

That's odd, I have that mod (legitmately) and I renamed the folder to be last and it showed up for me
nope after checking again it only shows the last letter which was modded mail about jas's birthday
last unmodded mail was the purple shorts
the character scarlett from sves birthday is summer 7, it is entirely possible its just sending empty mail for their birthdays

okay I'm quite lost and I don't know how to fix this but I've tried downloading Stardew valley expanded but it just won't work, my farm is still the same when I create a new world and I've made sure I have all the correct files but it still won't budge. SVE does not change your farm unless you get Grandpa's Farm or IFR2

aye yo, so I'm playing modded and I have all these mods downloaded and it launches fine, I can play without problem but I gave my friend the same mods as I do and when he launches his game it comes up with a bunch of errors. I'm kind of confused because he's launching it with the exact same files and yet he is the only one having the launch problems
(the game doesn't fail to launch it just fails to load certain mods)

Sorry to bother you so long after this conversation but I'm the faithful weapons author, we're actively adding more mods to the manifest to fix the invisible textures issue. The gold to titanium and vanilla tweaks mods already have compatibility in the latest version, if you come across any more please let me know! I'm aware that the 16x16 textures are kinda ugly, I'll probably fix them eventually but after working so hard on the main mod for so long and then the 600+ file iridium recolor compatibility pack I'm completely burnt out on art tbh. As such I'm more than happy to upload as many small fixes as necessary to make sure that any invisible texture issues are fixed so please don't be worried about bothering me here or on nexus! (this obviously goes for anyone else too)

It happens when I install either Crop Anywhere or Tillable soil. Game just wheezing when launching to the title screen. 
try removing LogSpamFilter

Honestly - if you're getting red in the log and it's pointing to a specific mod, I'd try to remove that mod. (Or dig into its code and try to figure out what's going on)
Interesting to know that LogSpamFilter doesn't like concurrency
(most mods don't use concurrency, so it's fine)

You have RSV and SVE, if your computer isn't a beast then it's normal to have long load times. ^^

huge noob when it comes to modding, but is there anyway GOG can still sync/track time played when i’m using SMAPI?
the game loads in well under a minute with current SVE + RSV + some PPJA mods with i5-9400f processor, which isn't really beastly. i timed loading the game and creating a new save with those mods too and then closing the game, got this real 2m6.197s user 0m0.028s sys 0m0.050s. i don't think long loading times should be accepted as normal for just the expansions

I checked all my sprinklers and they watered everything though

upon seeing the errors I backed up my file, slept a few times to check, then played in the backup, reloaded, cannot get it to replicate
There seems to be something wonky going on with the resolution of the game when I launch SMAPI vs Vanilla, the UI ends up way bigger & steam overlay (including fps count) is really blurry
might just be a first load thing
I noticed there's a section in the smapi FAQ that addresses it, but the DPI settings on both versions are the same as far as I can tell

A Json Shuffle is when your Json Assets items rearrange their numerical IDs or different players have different numerical IDs assigned to the same object. See here for details: https://stardewmodding.wiki/wiki/Json_Shuffle
Anytime you change your JA mods you can risk a shuffle. In multiplayer, you need to have exactly the same mods in exactly the same order as your friends.
Anytime you have a shuffle and then solve it, old objects may remain affected but new ones should be fine. You can sell or trash the old items, and spawn in new ones if needed with CJB item spawner.

the spring onion seeds themselves stayed the same and I introduced no other JA mod since them
what changed is the assigned output ID from feeding spring onions into the seed maker

8GB is lean for that mod setup.
It can work, I think, but you need to close absolutely everything in the background.

@gaunt gust @lament prairie Pathos wanted me to ping you and let you know I figured out the steps for running Stardew Valley with SMAPI in Proton on the Steam Deck, to avoid stutters!
I figured I'd send you the steps here so you can just copy and paste them to people who run in to the stuttering on linux:
Here's the steps:

Setup Stardew to run in Proton (right click in Steam -> compatibility -> check the checkbox -> Proton/Proton Experimental)
-
Extract the windows install of SMAPI and place it in the dir (changing the necessary files, which is explained in the README under manual install)
-
Create a non steam game of SMAPI, and make THAT run in Proton as well
You can't set it up with command arguments in Steam due to a proton limitation I think - But launching the non-steam game does actually mark you as playing "Stardew Valley", so playtime does go up properly, and it uses the correct controller layout.
The only limitation is that you don't get Steam Cloud saves (for some reason). You can manually put your saves in the StardewModdingAPI Proton Directory and they work flawlessly though. To do this, you go to the following directory:
~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/<STEAM_ID>/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData
Where STEAM_ID is the ID of Stardew valley. The easiest way to do this, to be honest, is to just open up the directory in the terminal and search with the following command
find | grep -i Stardew
That will show you where Stardew and the Modding API are installed, and you just copy and paste your saves from Stardew to the Modding API.

Found a half-fix for this. While enabling vsync in-game does nothing, enabling it through nvidia control panel for the game and capping fps at 59 gets rid of the issue while removing the screen tearing caused by capping fps at 59 without vsync. There's an occasional stutter but it's far more playable than before
Again fast sync or adaptive sync should theoretically fix this with even more smoothness
But the frame cap is probably a good idea

Take out half the mods (or at least half the suspicious/potentially conflicting mods), start a new game, see if you can walk through the tunnel.

That is the thing, most of these mods I've used before with it and it worked. So I have no clue what it could be as nothing edits that area
You can also open your mods directory with VSCode, and find some term to search for in other mods

as long as you visited the tunnel before taking the log, normal edits to it should show on the log (if a mod does it in a way that doesn't show on the log, i'm pretty sure it wouldn't show when searching for text in the mods either)

Only one of those three are patching the Bus Tunnel, the other two are translation files. One thing a little more detailed to parse through would be to visit the area with the issue and issue the patch summary command. Then share your logs and it'll say if multiple mods might be patching the same area.

tbh that works most of the time for most mods. I try to avoid changing things that would break between updates. I know you can always count on Pathos mods to migrate between versions.
So I'e just had my entire heavily modded game crash completely twice in a row, which was kind of exciting. Both times were while giving a loved gift for the qi quest, it made the 'quest completed' sound and then the entire game (and honestly most of the rest of Windows) ceased to function. You don't need the maps to be loaded with those in order to use the features from PyTK or TMXL, just have the map use them. That said. If they're using the warps I think there are, there's a warp type added in 1.5.6 that should work just fine.

i got that all worked out but after adding the sve mod it says "an unexpected error is keeping u from copying the file" and then says "path too long"

Windows max path length is 250 characters or so
i downloaded all the mods that sve needs and they're working perfectly fine, i go to extract the sve mod and it says path too long
If it's still in the wrapper directory (the one with a pile of numbers) maybe move it one dir up

Sometimes mods get flagged by overzealous antiviruses. If you're really worried about viruses in mods you can:
- download from Nexus or Moddrop, which check all files for viruses automatically
- preview the file contents on Nexus to see what you're downloading (content packs containing only images and json files are highly unlikely to be viruses)
- view the source code for most C# mods on Github by going to smapi.io/mods and checking the advanced options
- download and compile the source code yourself
Actual malware is fortunately a rare thing in mod communities. But its also why some people get hung up on closed source authors.

Make sure you got all the mod configs set the way you want before you zip and send too.
As those should be the same too, and are stored in the mods folder.

So that when a client tries to connect, it hash checks and file syncs the mod folders, then reboots the game.
I am lazy though...
@toxic ridge I recommend this mod for multiplayer https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/6609 helps you see in the logs if you and your friend have any mismatched mods
me and my sister use it and it helps a lottt figuring out when things aren't synced up in multiplayer

I just downloaded mods for the first time and everything loads just fine but uh, no mods are loading at all.
No errors or anything, just, nothing happens.
You download SMAPI, it has an installer it runs, then you just have to find the correct file to run it, it usually says where it is in the installer when it’s done
Where did you put your mods? Is it in the same directory as the SMAPI executable? (Like mod subdirectory there)

some times I have used the red warning of the it could not be loaded to tell me which mod I missed when uninstalling a set
Yeah I tried but I wasn't familiar with some of the things it said and the way it formats it I couldn't tell if they were individual files that should have been in the SVE pack or if they were separate mods. Thanks for the help@

How badly is it if you add something new to a current save. that's Json based?

Well I was looking at some new Crops and I know the Json shuffle sometimes happens
I mean as long as you have CJB Item Spawner, even if Json shuffle happens, you can easily fix it
use Lookup Anything and use the mod config to enable data mining fields, then F1 the weird items to find out what they originally were
I will also say: you can try it, and if you don't like it (or something goes wrong), as long as you don't save, you can just quit and remove the mod

Also a helpful thing to note is when trying to post a log of an issue to quit the game the moment after it happens so minimize the chance of confusion on last action taken
So dont end the day and save
Because that can and will make the log a lot more confusing xD

That’s correct, your vanilla saves won’t be affected unless you launch them with mods and save. I recommend making a new save for modded Stardew.
