My issue: Game does not launch (running for a few sec in steam) when launch option is empty and when is changed. I also uninstalled and re-installed the game through Steam, issue persists.
I seem to have narrowed it down that the issue started happening after I installed NET 5.0 x64 from https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/dotnet/5.0/runtime
Restarted my PC several times.
Windows – Steam, Stardew version 1.5.5, SMAPI version 3.13.1
Was playing fine with update 1.5.5 through steam (no mods) without manually installing net 5.0 Installed NET 5.0 just now.
Changed Steam launch option to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\StardewModdingAPI.exe" %command% and nothing

If you open the terminal yourself and run Storm from that terminal, it should stay open when Storm crashes so you can see the error.
You'll need to install .NET Framework 4.5.2 (and possibly XNA Framework?), if you don't already have it.
i think i have xna 4.5.2 since i did 1.5.4 c#
(Normally Steam would auto-install the dependencies, but that doesn't work for older versions.)

Do you see the SMAPI console window too? If so it should be fixed, and you can put your mods back.

Shiftand right-click the folder background. - Click the option that says Open in Command Prompt / PowerShell / Windows Terminal (depending on your system settings).
- Type this command:
StardewModdingAPI.exe(for Command Prompt) or./StardewModdingAPI.exe(for PowerShell or Windows Terminal). - Press enter to run the command.
If it crashes, the terminal window should stay open this time. Post a screenshot of the full window here.

Is something happening with SMAPI right now ? because when I launch modded stardew valley, the command prompt doesn't show up and it launches unmodded stardew valley.
And when I check stardew valley files, I only see the normal "Stardew Valley .exe" and not the modded .exe file

Heya so I was wondering. I’m doing one of those large orders, gathering bug meat. I already had some so I got 100 and put it in Willy’s barrel, but the quest isn’t marked complete. It still says that I have to gather 40 bug meat

(The normal quests don't require collecting new ones. The special orders require fresh items so they're more challenging, but they also have much better rewards as a result.)

Have you checked the launch options in Steam? Right-click Stardew's name, click Properties, see if "Launch Options" has anything in it
Hmm, we're getting into unknown territory. Not sure what's causing it, but at least it's not a SMAPI issue at this point. Just to confirm, you uninstalled all .NET runtimes and SDKs, so there's nothing shown when searching .NET in Windows' 'add or remove programs'?

Okay, so that's your problem. Run the installer again and paste the launch option thingy it gives you into the box in Properties (running the installer again is strictly speaking not necessary but it's the easiest way to get the launch option string)
Try this:
- Reinstall .NET 5 (make sure you get the exact version shown at https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Installing_SMAPI_on_Windows#Install_SMAPI).
- Restart your computer.
- Make sure the game still doesn't work. (If it does... I guess we're done?)
- Open a terminal in the game folder and run
dotnet "Stardew Valley.dll", and see what happens.
for downloading the .NET 5, do I download the x64 version or x86 ?

It's me again. so I'm playing with my gf and i have Morris and Gunther like normal NPC's (talking etc) and my gf doesn't have them, we checked our mods and they are the same and we can't find them anywhere, how to make them normal NPC's for her?

Hmm. That means it crashes really early in the launch process. You should normally see something like this:

Okay, so I'd like to suggest something just to make sure:
- Zip up your entire mods folder.
- Have her rename her entire mods folder to mods-disabled.
- Have her unzip your entire mods folder in.
This will make absolutely certain that the mods you have are identical and her computer didn't misplace one of the files somewhere.

Sometimes these issues are caused by a stray config file being slightly different, which is why I suggested a complete replacement instead of just making sure to match updates
Have you already tried the nuclear uninstall option?
- Make a backup of your saves (https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Saves) and
Modsfolder. - Uninstall the game through Steam.
- Completely delete all traces of the game from your filesystem (i.e. delete the entire game folder and the
%appdata%/StardewValleyfolder). - Restart your computer just to be extra-sure.
- Reinstall the game through Steam.
- See if it launches?

I uninstalled the game through Steam, deleted the entire game folder and the %appdata%/StardewValley folder. I restarted my PC and my %appdata%/StardewValley with Saves is back. Is this an issue?

Try running Stardew Valley.exe in the game folder; that error is probably just because Steam is configured to launch SMAPI, which isn't in the folder anymore.

I had a bug after using a older verison of smapi, 1.10 or something, updated it to 1.13 but then PYTK mod broke, i downloaded the recent version but the expanded says pytk is outdated, is there no way to fix this other than waiting for pytk to update their mod?

Sorry for the late response, was walking the dog! Steam was indeed configured to launch SMAPI. Unfortunatelly trying to run Stardew Valley.exe in the game folder didn't work

@dire fractal That's not an issue anymore, you can unzip it into the game folder now. That's only needed if the installer can't auto-detect your game folder though, normally you can just unzip it anywhere (like your downloads) and run the installer from there.

soo i realized some of my mods weren't the latest updates, and neither was SMAPI so I went and I downloaded SMAPI 3.13.1. I installed it with macOS which is what I use. It said I needed .NET 5.0 so I downloaded and installed it (the macOS one). As far as I know it worked. The next thing SMAPI said was "Oops, couldn't find the game automatically. Type the file path to the game directory (the one containing 'Stardew Valley.dll'), then press enter."
I looked all over and I don't have anything that is "Stardew Valley.dll", but i DO have Stardew Valley.exe. Soo I don't know where to go from here

Tech Support sent me here. I am running with Game Pass. I am getting the error "[Json Assets] Failed to apply 'JsonAssets.Patches.CropPatcher' patcher", which I think was one of the problems that the GOG users were getting. I just pulled the SMAPI version from git, but that didn't change anything. I just installed the game and mods yesterday.

alright crew, i'm struggling and need some help. i'm using vortex and i have a modded and a vanilla profile. i've updated all mods including the API. i'm trying to launch my vanilla profile but it's not launching. i see a window flash for a second and then it goes away. i ran the moddingAPI executable via powershell and it states this:

i've tried running the vanilla .exe directly and that does launch fine. i've updated my .net version and here's what the cmd prompt shows for "dotnet --info"

It's also possible that your path settings are the issue here, the x86 version of dotnet can hide the x64 version.

You need the SMAPI installer to uninstall SMAPI so this might not be an option. Path reordering is not that hard, all you need to know is where to find advanced system settings and then edit system environment variables.

Since updating SMAPI to 3.13.1 and my game to 1.5.5 my game keeps crashing. Not immediately, it's usually halfway through or at the end of the first in-game day. I never make it past one day without crashing.

Unfortunately segfaults are very hard to deal with. I personally know nothing about them, and as you've seen, SMAPI won't log them. You're probably going to have to get Pathos to take a look, but he might not have time until things calm down a bit.
When I do relaunch/run the stardewmoddingapi.exe, I am faced with a lot of text. Starts off with "oops! smapi couldn't load the game executable" followed by lots of info. Then it goes on to say at the end "assembly binding logging is turned off... to enable assembly bind failure logging set the registry value bla bla (DWORD) to 1.", game has ended. Press any key to exit. So I cannot run the game or send in a log.
Launching via console should give you an error message

Just a question. I plan to do multiplayer modded stardew with more than 4 players. Will that work? Should I just edit the <playerLimit>-1</playerLimit> (does everyone have to do that, or just the host?) or get a nexus mod to get up to 6 players? I've got about 10 CP-A mods installed, when I take them all out. Main menu goes down to super low frames. When I take them all out, good as new. I tried putting in one at a time to see if it was a specific one, and nothing. Only happens once I have a few in there.

Hi, while I'm currently waiting for JSON ASSETS to be updated I'm putting together a couple mods to play with. There are a few things in my SMAPI log I'm having a little trouble working out {trying to make sure the problem lies only with JA needing a few adjustments and not something to do with TMX-unofficial} There seems to be something up with Fruits and Veggies [DGA] Champagne Grapes .png ~ Also wondering about the antisocial.dll included when downloading SVE, since SVE relies on JA, would this cause the antisocialNPCs .dll to not function somehow? I am using SMAPI 3.13.1 __STARDEW 1.5.5

The champagne grapes I believe are PPJA
They ported to DGA and then just uploaded without testing, as best I can tell
Unless you mean 1.5.6 upcoming changes, Json Assets should work just fine

If you want to go through and fix the 35873495 items they add, you can, but i don't recommend it
PFM isnt compatible with DGA yet I believe so

DGA is wonderful (my biased opinion), but it's not quite 100% finished, and the PPJA packs in specific have a bunch of problems
Hi there, I'm back with another issue. Been here this morning because smapi was closing a split second after starting, and @gaunt gust gave me the solution. Perfect! I started it, openned my save file, and realized from the start that there was an update problem (I use IFR2 and the layout was wrong) so I get out immediatly without saving. I then spent most of the day throughly updating mods, and I'm back, I can start the game and open other save files, but not mine 😩

a farm map error did sound a bell though, I really don't know how to interpret it, but lines in the concole when the crash happens seems to point to something like that
[Content Patcher] SMAPI found an issue with 'Maps/Shed' map load: mod reordered the original tilesheets, which often causes crashes.

@tired brook current version of smapi is really laggy for me after updating, idk if it's because i have too many mods or an issue with the application but it's making the game a bit hard to play
