That is a rather infamous glitch, actually. As a reminder, A&S (the non-MP beta version, that is) is not compatible with multiplayer (this glitch being the major offender). If you are most interested in the reskin functions d stray adoption, the MP beta version (version 4.0.0-beta.2.0.0) is available for multiplayer use!

it is amazing
one of the versions has a command to clear the extra horses, one moment while I check which one! It's likely on the main version, so you'll have to use it before switching (and make sure to remove the old version when you download the MP beta)
as a warning, if you've adopted any extra horses (not via stables, but via wild horse adoption from A&S), then mounting and dismounting that horse can cause it to disappear in the MP beta, as vanilla Stardew... likes to remove them at will
horses are a hassle, but I'm working on it 😛

My host had two versions without realizing it, got no errors but a lot of things stopped working
Roughly how many mods are you running? Depending on the mods 100+ mods is always going to be very slow, and 200+ of any mods can cost you several minutes of load time without any fix
I actually crashed her because of it, that was a fun time
But then she got me back,because Marnie spawned a goat skin that host was supposed to have deleted, and then I crashed
Can I see your SMAPI log? Other pet mods might interfere, potentially even other NPC mods

Are you running SVE? It's recommended to restart and go to desktop at least once an in-game week to prevent lag build-up for SVE.

Hi again, I've come across another D: I record my stardew sessions with outplayed, but since installing mods outplayed doesn't recognize my game anymore. does anyone know how to get it to work again or have another capture program that works with modded stardew?
How old is your computer, and do you know how much RAM it has? I would like to see your SMAPI log to see your mods list (instructions on https://smapi.io/log - send the link to that here), but if your computer is on the older side it may not be able to handle SVE as a whole, or you may need to make sure that you do not have Grampleton Fields installed with it

It's the runtime/framework which runs the game (the newer equivalent to Mono in Stardew Valley 1.5.4).
I'm not familiar with outplayed, but my first guess would be that you need to ask outplayed to recognize the .exe that is running Stardew (which in this case would be StardewModdingAPI.exe, which is in the same folder as your Stardew Valley .exe)

Not sure about this specific circumstance, but anecodatally airs can be underpowered
They tend to sacrifice performance for weight
(A friend of mine had issues running Zoom on an air of iirc similar age)
Unfortunately with 4g memory (yes, that's the correct number!) your computer may be trying to think itself too hard and freeze on some of the heavier mods like SVE. (Ridgeside might also be an issue considering its size, but I'm less familiar with it)
while 2g RAM is necessary to run Stardew, that is not a good gauge for running with mods, some of which can be very intensive or have coding efficiency issues
it - might - be possible to use, but you likely couldnt run anything else and it would still not be great

Try loading into a test new save file, with only SVE and another with only Ridgeside. If you load in fine with less lag on either one, you can narrow down the worst performer!

are you on the beta branch of Stardew? If not you should be using SMAPI 3.12

Yes- I believe the debug command (make sure you have DebuggingMode = true in the Config) is in the main version, so you would call it before switching (or switch back temporarily)
yeah, modded stardew valley can go above 4gb of memory useage if you have 64 bit stardew

Looks like you'll have to wait on a fix for PYTK then, unfortunately, since it is currently broken. The mod author for it is fairly active iirc, so you shouldn't be waiting long!
two options - you wait for the modder to fix it or someone in the community ( i doubt it will be too long ) or you can get the past beta from like three days ago on depot downloader and use tha, just be ready for 45 mins to an hour of playing around in files

If you are willing to work with a save file on 1.5.4 and not the beta branch (save files from Stardew's beta 1.5.5 branch cannot be used on 1.5.4 again), then the main download on smapi.io is in fact for 3.12. The smaller download button below is the 3.13, which only works with the beta branch.

TYSM for the info! I adore the mod so much, my boyfriend keeps asking if we Really need more pets, to which I respond with getting more haha. Can't wait for the horse multiplayer! I have the patience of a saint, I know how mentally taxing bashing into code can be.

I usually uninstall SMAPI to turn off mods
you can also just rename the mod folder to notnowMods or something

It broke loading but operation was broken before — it relies on deep implementation details of .NET that Microsoft changed in version 5

If after you download it it says that you already have it downloaded, just delete the smapi you had previously downloaded
The "animals dont eat grass" mod might be the one causing the problem
but im not sure, just wait for pathos

@dire fractal macOS seems to have issues with the newer SMAPI versions for completely mysterious reasons. Even taking the exact code from SMAPI 3.12.5 and changing the version causes a freeze for some players. Currently the main fix seems to be updating to Stardew Valley 1.5.5 beta and SMAPI 3.13.0 beta.

(You can opt in to the beta version though.)
@gloomy meadow I'm submitting a pull request to update the PyTK code now, and next we'll just need someone to release an unofficial update from the PR. So should be updated by tomorrow.

Hi, im having some issues with modded. I've been playing it perfectly fine up until I hit summer 15. I can save using the save anywhere mod but as soon as I try to sleep to get to the 15th I get constant red text in the console

hello! not sure if anyone can help. but i have an error when trying to load next day. i have 1 kid, and when i tried having a second, she never appearead. game said i had her but she just wasnt there and wasnt on the character list. now im trying to have a baby again, and when its trying to load the day im supposed to have another baby, the game errors out and wont load the next day

Anybody have any kind of update on when PyTK will be updated? I heard the creator uses this discord? was hoping to be able to play this weekend. But with the beta/smapi update breaking it, Myself and many other are waiting for the update. And we can't play on non-beta because we have too many mods to run on the 32bit version

Makes you realize that when modders move on with their lives and a mod dies, you are screwed if the game gets updated and a mod goes obsolete.
heh.. it's happened, but when worst comes to worst Pathos or others can take over maintaining mods that would royally mess things up if they died. Pathos has been keeping Spacechase's running for a little while now

hi everybody :) i posted this on reddit already, but I figured I'd post it here in case someone else could help me out. I need some help figuring out why my game won't work. I'm on Mac, trying to run mods on my computer. The game/terminal always gets stuck on one command "22:20:51 INFO Json Assets: New Objects for Stardew Valley Expanded 1.13.11 by FlashShifter - Adds new fish, objects, weapons, and crops", the screen stays black. I never get to the title screen. The game doesn't crash either, it just keeps on chugging, but the screen is black and the game won't respond. In order to get out, I have to force quit, otherwise it will stay open for minutes on end but still not work. I've tried all the troubleshooting tips on the wiki, including: reinstalling Mono, reinstalling SMAPI, restarting my computer, running the game without SMAPI using "StardewValley-original" (which runs the game fine so it seems to be a SMAPI issue) and putting my logs into the site to see if there are any obvious errors, there doesn't seem to be any. I've also deleted and redownloaded/installed SDVE and the other mod Json Assets that the last command is talking about. I'm not sure what else to do. Any ideas? thank you so much in advance!

@azure rootassuming that is an m1 mac, that seems to be a known issue going around in the last couple of 1.5.4 smapi versions, the workarounds are load it thru rosetta instead, or upgrade to the beta 1.5.5(which has its own problems atm until tomorrow) but doesnt have that issue

Yes, you can use multiple mods unless they conflict and you can download mods from Nexus and ModDrop

but, the 1.5.5 versions do not appear to have the problem, the main problem with it right now is the latest sdv update broke pytk which means very little complex things work on it
Pytk was fixed by Pathos earlier tonight and it really only needs someone to pull the pr and bundle the unoffical, so it should be around tomorrow
i was reading a little bit of the earlier part of the chat and i saw that mentioned. i'm glad the beta doesn't have the same problem! i will postpone my new SDVE play through until everything is a-ok

Hi! Do you have Custom NPC Exclusions installed as recommended? I can't remember exactly whether ||Ginger Island|| is excluded for Marigold, but it fixes lots of 'bugs' like her posting quests on the bulletin board, etc

the new Stardew beta update broke PyTK, it wasnt smapi that did. No, theres no ETA on when it will be fixed as the author is busy. Pathoschild said he would take a look at it when possible

(the tutorial video is for hollow knight, but the steps are the same except for the appid number & that's in the message above the one i linked)
alternatively by tomorrow someone with access to the ability to compile C# code should have gotten around to compiling and releasing the pyTK fix that's already coded

Can anyone tell me if east scarp is worth playing? I know it hasn't been updated since april. Just wondering if the mod is worth it in it's current state? How much content does it compare to SVE and Ridgeside? Or is it closer to ZUZU's current state (where it's visitable but very unfinished atm)
Yup, same for me. You can convert CPA packs to DGA packs, and they work just fine for me. It's just annoying work.
So i just got the Automate mod, is there another mod or perhaps something in game that will let me craft things from chests that arent physically touching the crafting table? trying to figure out how to organize things with this new mod
I think it’s similar to ZuZu in terms of visitable but unfinished, BUT it does have a couple of NPCs that I like already. Plus, it has lots of flowers! 💐 It gave me the vibe of a recently abandoned cottagecore village. There’s definitely things around and it looks lived-in, but I saw only three or four NPCs.
Thanks! I've played so much Ridgeside and SVE that I'm always looking for more mods that add more content. But I also hate playing the extremely unfinished/dead mods. Walk to desert and Village shops are good examples of mods that had so much potential but seemed to be forgotten about. So we are stuck with a ghost all by himself in the dead town and two npcs in the village shops. Don't think any of the three have heart events or anything. Makes gifting them serve only one purpose (getting the ten hearts with everyone).
I have hopes that East Scarp will grow. I think the developers are in this server, so they can tell you more about it! I only got ES like two days ago, lol.

I'm with you on that with mods that expand things. It's a lot of work though so I'm willing to wait and try things later on. My main problem is just wanting everything to look consistent stylistic-wise. I have to have a looooot of patience for that.
That doesn't bother me too much. I have so many mods running and edits to mods to make them work together without breaking lore. but there are some ugly chars (Sorren and Jade are an example of a great char with an ugly portrait). I usually ignore it. And building design doesn't bother me because they are seperate towns. I like feeling like they were designed that way.
running 253 mods currently. 😛 looking for 2 more really good mods to round it off to 255.
ES is great, i personally really enjoy it! you can also always download more NPCs that move into ES (check the description). plus, there should be 3 more NPCs moving in there when that mod is out of beta!
(honestly any of Lemurkat’s NPCs are definitely worth getting)
Orabgepie's "Burger style" portraits for Sorren are IMO a definite improvement... never played with Jade, tho
the orignial sprite is (also IMO) pretty good tho
yes, all of my npc's have the DC burger style portraits, I think they're amazing
I'm moving over to them as some come to light that I do like... the wizard has always been a core character to me, and I haven't found any in the Burger style that I really like... I redid the wizard sprite & modified the Dizor style portraits for him, but would like to get all my characters a consistent (mostly) style
Orangepie does a decent wizard portrait also, but doesn't fit too well with my sprite
you guys convinced me to try east scarp. hopefully it's good. Also see 2.0 is supposed to come out soonish. so we shall see.
There are 2 main characters that have fairly involved story arcs for Eeast Scarp, and then some others which are nice, but not as fleshed out
Hello! I'm doing a witchy playthrough, so I got the Addy's Witchy Stuff mod. However, one of the sets in the pack keeps throwing an error about token format needing to be version 1.9.0 or later. The token is: Cauldron/Books+Skulls/Spellbooks Replacement

@wide charm Stumps are just trees under the hood, and trees can be automated to collect seeds and such. Automating a stump won't do anything though, since it'll never produce anything. I added a note to make Automate ignore tree stumps in a future version.

Thank you Max. For those curious, East scarp was originally designed for other creators to move their npcs into instead of patching the map. Unfortunately very few came through leaving me to mostly do it alone. I do have some strong supporters now and my ES is actually quite full because of it. Some will be released soon, others are still in creation hiatus.

PyTK breaks with the new stardew update (that came out on the 15th) which means none of the mods that require PyTK are gonna work (including expansion mods)
There's no ETA for when PyTK is gonna be fixed as the author is busy, but Pathoschild said he might take a look if possible

She just has dialogue currently, no events. I'll probably load up her low level dialogue and make her antisocial until 2.1
I have one kid already. when i tried having a second kid it said i had her but she never appeared. like she wasnt anywhere in the house. now im trying to have a technically third kid since my 2nd one never appeared. and im sure this is where the error is happening. as i already have 2 kids but technically the second one never appeared.

Right I would suggest (tentativrly) that you try editing your save file.
If Olivia kid is still in there maybe they changing her name
But you'll need to be careful to make sure you change the kids name and not the NPCs name.

Yep, you can enter world_clear farm everything in the SMAPI console. You can also use a mod like Noclip Mode (https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/3900) to clean up in-game after the change.
(world_clear won't remove buildings, but you can move those in-game after running the command.)

You should almost never need to restart a save due to mods, SMAPI has a lot of error recovery and such built-in. Feel free to ask here if you ever need help with a save not working!

[#4974] "Switching to a custom farm map can be done, but you'll need to do extra steps in order to make sure you don't have buildings / items in the void, or not properly lined up.
- Grab Reset Terrain Features and Noclip Mode to set you up, and Crop Transplant Mod for a way to move your crops and trees.
- Before you install the new map, you'll need to remove all machines / chests / etc. on your map. You can store them in a chest, preferably inside your farmhouse or barns /coops / sheds.
- Go to Robin and move any buildings you have as close to the farmhouse as possible. Save before going to the next step.
- Add the new map mod (ensure it replaces the farm type you're using, i.e. Standard, Riverland, Hilltop, or Wilderness), and you'll spend some time moving everything to a proper place.
You can use Reset Terrain Features to reset the bushes, trees, and other debris.
Noclip Mode will help you reach any things that ended up in the void or an invalid tile.

An unofficial update to Convenient Chests which fixes the crafting from chest bug (as did the previous unofficial by Quintin) but also fixes compatibility with different zoom levels. Now I and others can hopefully enjoy having this mod work right even when you need to change your zoom. :)...

Including 3 shops, a floral crop and some fish.
Honestly the special orders are the most fun.
Plus crossmod interactions. Bonus content if you have x mod installed for example

Putting mods inside a folder inside the mods folder would make them not work? Like categorizing some mods specially those core mods that after a while you don't know if they're for a mod u took out or for something else and you still need it
like having a folder inside the mods folder for Buildings/Textures, one for mods for SVE, and that stuff

My guess is nobody wants to release the unofficial mod so that they aren't bothered by people if it doesn't work, or don't know how to release it, (like me)

The Nexus description is a bit outdated, it'll be getting an overhaul hopefully with the next multiplayer beta update!
It looks like I may have mistaken the debug command asdebug_clearunowned as the horse command, when it's actually implemented for pets. I am going to add in a function now into both versions to remove additional horses! I should have it together pretty quickly but in the meantime, if you only have a smaller number and not about 100 of them, you can mount each extra copy and dismounting them should make them disappear, as the vanilla "kill all unrecognized horses" thing takes effect. If that doesn't work then let me know, that'll be useful to understand when working with the code!
In the meantime with the Nexus description, I've been trying to get this page organized to answer most questions 🙂

I know of someone who uses Elle's dog mod alongside A&S to change the heads! A&S can control everything else, just remove the dog skins from its folder and let Elle's cover that 🙂 A&S will still do the rest for you
Since it requires a different image to be included from sprite authors I opted not to include it directly into A&S, but it may be incorporated in the future in a different way.
Elle's should, I believe, replace the head sprite in the menu as well. Otherwise I believe BFAV might be able to do that

i think i ruined my save file for myself by adding so many mods (110+)
if i were to just delete them all and basically wipe my stardew to start fresh, could that possibly break anything? i just want to start fresh and download WAY LESS mods and wipe my save files so i can enjoy the game thoroughly again (just worried that if i bulk delete all the mods and save files if i might destroy something idk)

How do I update SMAPI? Do I just unzip the 3.12.6 file and put it in the Stardew Valley folder, or into the SMAPI-internal folder which is inside the SDV folder?
Unzip the installer, run the installer like normal
It'll remove the old version of Smapi for you
And replace it with the one you downloaded the installer for
If you're only deleting mods in the Mods folder and the saves that use those mods, you should be fine.
If you installed XNB mods, which would have replaced actual game files, you'd need to validate your Steam files first. Then you'd be fine
(Keep in mind your save file may well be salvageable, too! SMAPI does a lot of cleanup itself. But yeah, like Lenne said it should be fine, and as long as you didn't mess around with the game files themselves you shouldn't need to reinstall, let alone wipe your saves and such 😄 )
is it possible to not use certain mods on multiplayer but keep others, for example, my friend and i have different mods downloaded, but we want to play with only UI suite. do we have to move/delete the other mods we have away from the folder in order to play>
so me, my brother, and my cousin just started a play through of stardew valley then cousin suggests stardew valley expanded, and I started getting questions about moding. Will mods ruin the experience if regular stardew if we never finished a play through of it? Should we even start a modded playthrough if we haven't done a whole playthrough of the original?

Sure, there are a few different ways! You can make different shortcuts for different folders, for example, which is the simplest for quick swapping. See https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Player_Guide/Getting_Started#Can_I_have_different_mod_groups.3F for how to do that.

(I often keep a folder named .disabled in my Mods folder, and just drag mods I want to turn off into that folder temporarily when I need to, for quick tests. The . in the front of the name makes SMAPI ignore everything in it.)
Hm, that feels pretty subjective. Some people never really finish the game in vanilla before starting modded, and some might not even play it at all. I personally think of Stardew as really good on its own, and like to get mods that complement vanilla stuff, which I'd have less idea of if I wasn't familiar with how the original game worked.
The same new content that experienced players might welcome for a change in pace and strategy might overwhelm newer players that never developed a routine in the first place, but some new people might still want to cram as much stuff as possible in at start just to experience it all in one go. Even when you're experienced people disagree on ideal mods, so it's hard to say when not 😄
I think it's nicer to stick with quality of life mods and things that don't interfere or add too much to the main game loop when starting out, but I also tend to be a lower-key in terms of heavy mod lists than some other mod users in general, so I'm probably biased.
I will add to the above, that after you become used to using mods, it can be quite difficult to do without them... For instance, I have tried playing on Android SDV & although you can mod it, compared to what I'm used to on PC, that is just a drop in the bucket...
A simple example: I run the mod Visible fish & have since it came out... without it every body of water seems flat & dead not at all the same experience

got all 253 mods working now with the beta. Only ones I had to uninstall was deep woods and east Scarp. The rest are all working.

It took me a while to figure out it was FTM tho
it doesn't spawn many things
but it's multiple checks every minute can stack together
and then when 5 checks happen in an hour it causes a long stutter
u gotta open the config editor inside Farm Type manager folder, and then load the Content.json of your custom farm
in my case Capitalist Dream Farm 2 has a folder just for it's FTM stuff, so i opened the content.json from that in the Farm Type Manager config editor and then replaced with my edited json afterwards
i'll probably make a tutorial on that tho, whenever i got time

Also there was literally an EastScarp recompiled dll in the same folder you downloaded the 2.0 beta from. I'd be real grateful for someone would test it actually.
