So i get ya
Hey guys long time player new time modded. I have had SVE, a fishing mod and the cheat menu downloaded and it working before the ginger island update. Then I finally got the motivation to fix it. Long story short I deleted everything. Then once that happened I got smapi to run and took that as my go ahead to download the mods to vortex but I got this message, does anyone know whatβs up?

SVE also kinda takes over the game, I guess? Like it soaks into every pore, every map and when the Adventurer's Guild became this major institute, the lore began to move away from the lore I'd devised for myself (during the interrim I wrote a ton of fanfiction), and I had decided to make my own mods at that point and didn't have the time to devote to it.
I tried Ridgeside Village when it first came out, but got turned off it by the Quest Framework drama.
When I had it working I really liked SVE
but that might be on Vanilla stardew too
but like, the change to the adventure's guild and the mine hurts me physically
Facts I had to change my walking speed. I hated walking in vanilla too

What parts of SVE really caught your attention when you were considering it? Aside form the fact everyone tells you to get it. π

I just wanted more really, but Flash's vision didn't follow my vision (not surprisingly) and I discovered that I could actually tailor-make my game to follow my vision instead.
(BTW, sorry I'm not more help to people with logs, but I do know that if you're using the beta things went nuts yesterday)

There's been a LOT of issues with the latest beta update. If possible, I'd switch it back to 1.5.4.
So you would never download an expansion? Or if you would, what would you want advertised at you?
And thatβs why Iβve picked ES as my first map expansion mod! Your mod seems like it isnβt overwhelming yet and it didnβt have so many things to download to make it work.

Okay so as a follow up to being told not to use Vortex. I am pretty dumb when it comes to files and things whatβs a better way to mod to make it work? As I have no idea what my error messages mean
First time i saw SVE was when dangerously funny made a vid on it and it looked hella wack from my pov, but mostly the changes to vanilla, Additions themselves never interested me, I really like the vanilla map, but i also think it could be way more cluttered and detailed, as sometimes it feels rather empty, and it got me to download SVE
thank you Tia. ES was designed initially beause I was bored during lockdown because there were so many custom NPCs patching my town map it lagged a good 7-10 seconds when entering it.

Vortex does weird things to files. The best way to install mods is download zip -> unzip zip into mods folder -> done
Perfect! So did you like that it only comes with a few NPCs (compared to RSV) or would you rather more be bundled in?
So I thoguth I"d give them a place to live but to do that I had to first build an empty area and then promote it. Sadly, most creators still prefer to randomly patch the maps in, as there is a fear of dependencies.
Can I do that despite having everything installed or should I just delete everything?
Or get the NPCs separately?
Honestly, delete everything is easiest. And if you had the zips downloaded, it's easy to just group unzip them all....
Yet I do think that East Scarp and Boarding House compatible NPCs get more downloads than standalone ones.

I would to see what it has to offer at some point out of curiosity but right now it would break quite a bit of my current save's modpack

@glacial briar i also think, if SVE only had the new NPCs from town (the ones i can actually interact with) with all the map changes EXCEPT EXTRA AREAS LIKE THAT DAMN FOREST AND DESERT, i would probably use it more, also without the dark events, imo those don't fit stardew and never will

I download all the NPCs then uninstall them if I don't like them/they don't fit the aesthetic/I have seen all their events

Hmm, I personally always do manual, and don't do a lot of updates if I don't have to until I start a new save.
if you have 70 lines of dialogue and most are "hi there" or "nice weather today" then I probably won't keep you around.

my game has a lot of issues with lag and glitches and i think i should update my mods because it's been like 3 months π

@dire fractal OutOfMemoryException errors on Windows mean that your game ran out of memory. The game only has access to a small part of your computer's memory by default. i already have the beta but people were saying there's an unofficial version of 64bit stardew out there

i guess my only options really are risk OOM with 32bit or wait for mod framework updates to roll out
you can use all the mods on the 64 bit hing, just ptyk doesnt work and maybe some others
i've got several mod frameworks so its possible another may have broken
but hopefully its just pytk
or you can use the backlog and revert you save so that itll work and its stable, but its a decent amount of steps

okay I'm now running into the issue that my save file is 1.5.5 while I'm playing 1.5.4. have I just lost my game or can I fix that??
I don't know how their game can handle it, even with just 200 I have to close and reopen the game every 3-4 days

CP and JA mods aren't that memory heavy, it seems. I have 461 myself, but most are CP, JA, and CF

That's the unofficial 64bit, I'm pretty sure, that's why you wouldn't have issues with PyTK
I tried the unofficial 64bit, and it lagged like hell, so I didn't bother trying with it beyond the one or two test loads
So now I wait for PyTK / the official 64 release
So i downloaded it manually and this is for SMAPI only and getting framework errors

so stardew gets silent updates with no posts or anything, which means smapi has to update, which breaks mods, but we cant stop or revert these silent stardew updates? the only way to keep our mod list without waking up and having it be broken is to have it offline from steam then?

You do? Cool! What are they? I might get them. Heβs already stuck with the general dialogue expansion I got for everyone, lol.
For me it depends on my character I'm currently playing. They all have different personalities, so I look for NPCs that fit well with them specifically. For example, right now it's hard for me to care about even talking to the people who didn't like my Salmonberry gifts, or weren't at least courteous about explaining they don't like it.
Portrait compatibility is big, too. Right now I'm using DCBurger style portraits, I don't like to play with NPCs that don't have one. Other games I'll stick vanilla or go anime style. If an NPC has different styles, that's a huge plus.
In the end though, personality and their dialogue+story is #1 for me. A 'pretty' character who it feels like you're talking to a bot won't stay in my game.

How do you judge if you think an NPC will have a good personality/dialog? Screenshots? Word of mouth? Downloading them all and then delting the bad ones?

Initially through screenshots and/or the brief description of the characters. For SVE, I looked at the character pages on the wiki to read the short blurbs for each. If it seems the NPC has been properly worked on, I'll install it and give it a go, see if their dialogue interests me in-game.
Lore friendliness is pretty important, too. I didn't install that mailwoman NPC simply because of the wizard's comments about how the mail works

It refills with time, but slowly, and the level 10 profession didn't work for me(I think it's supposed to 3x your regen).

(On the subject of the "inconvenience" of updates to a beta, keep in mind that things are only even breaking because the devs are adding features/bugfixes that modders have asked for via the Pathos wishlist, to open up more cool features. That's why we're beta testing, to make sure shit works and can be updated before it hits stable π )

That's weird. I never made any, but I did cheat one in to make sure the mod was working and it worked for me.
(e.g. PyTK broke because of a change modders requested to water tiles, to make it easier for mappers to do some things.)
On the NPC subject, I think I am an outlier since historically I was usually aware of and sometimes at least peripherally involved with NPC mods as they came out, so I always had some idea of what they were about or trying to do

Yeah, lore consistency between your installed mods is nice, so it makes sense to not have something that clashes, but it didn't sound vanilla to me either π
I used to play a long time ago when Get Dressed was still usable. I saw there is now Get Glam, but thats missing the bottoms option from the menu, and saving outfits and such seems to produce console errors. I really want to use the bottoms that came with Get Dressed though.. is there a way to do this with content patcher somehow?

I like ( vanilla) Krobus because he's a cute nice monster, but also an outcast of two peoples, neither of whom approve of him trying to bridge worlds, just trying to learn about the world and the people in it while being a chill dude. Even if the game is designed to "raid mines for shinies" he is also quiet unjudgy reminder that they are sapient and probably have their own opinions...

Vanilla it's always been Leah and Penny for me. They're the kind of neighbors and friends I would want to have close by irl. Mods, I'm really liking Aspen and Cecilia right now, but I haven't gotten very far into any of their stories. I've barely even interacted with most of the SVE/RS/ES npcs yet

I haven't played a lot with custom npcs, though I always mean to check them out... I usually end up with spoilers from files and stuff too hehe
Now u see, i use Combined girl mod, so i got many options, but honestly, idk π€·ββοΈ they're all ok, Vanilla, probably Linus cuz of the sushi recipe, and modded, probably Alexa, aka Female Alex cuz i like tomboys
With PyTK being broken (And an update not seeming to be on the horizon until late this month/next month) is there a way to go back to 1.5.4 without breaking...absolutely everything? Though the Out of memory errors would return....argh.
Saves aren't backwards compatible, so you can't play a 1.5.5 save on 1.5.4

i was able to use my stardew backup from a few days ago
and it somehow works with steam too
if u dont wanna get fucked by updates u need to copy ur stardew folder, put it somewhere else and launch from there

? Mods are easy to update and downgrade, as long as you keep the back up of your save in another location, if something goes south and you have to downgrade, all you'd need to do is delete the 1.5.5 version of the save, and replace it with your backed up copy
It took me two seconds to downgrade the game and Smapi, so it's not a process that requires you to completely redo everything

There's recolors, though which you would define as the prettiest switches from person to person
There's map recolors and foliage recolors, and for furniture and buildings
Pretty is very much subjective
i do like myself the vibrant recolor tho

here's my list of "pretty mods" 
(I am moved to clarify on my NPC commentary that it usually takes me a long time to friend everyone, and in MP games I am usually the one that's just fishing and things (or wasting time playing arcade games...), so I like to just slowly make friends with the people on the outskirts like my shady farmer, especially Linus and Krobus and the kids π It suits me as grumpy hermit in the woods type :P )
If u use Part of The Community you can get everyone to a decent friendship level by just visiting the saloon every night
which is why i got rid of it :p
i could literally get everyone on 2+ hearts by the end of the first month with PoTC
which is way too fast imo

Could someone please edit the code of a mod I'm using so that it stops trying to use the sprites for two characters from the mod? I've replaced the .xnb files but I am...very incompetent at coding and every time I try to do it myself I end up breaking the whole game ^^; I tried just deleting the sprites themselves but then I get redtexted so I'm guessing that that isn't the way to go about it
whats the problem? also dont most of them just have text doc for that ?
Yeah I've tried messing around with the content.json file in Notepad++ but I guess I don't know enough to properly edit it so that it stops trying to load in the sprites that come with the mod
So far my efforts have resulted in walls of redtext lol
what if you import the files you want it to use and then change it to that? like inport the official character design and change the name to that

There was a game update last night which broke SMAPI. I suggest updating both the game (you can force an update check like this: https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Player_Guide/Troubleshooting#Reset_your_content_files) and SMAPI. Note that a few mods broke in the latest game update, notably PyTK.

Tried Ubuntu, Mint, PopOS and Debian. Different releases from the first two. Sometimes it would get through the install. Sometimes freeze, no errors, just hard lock. It's a cheap cherry trail laptop though with 2gb of ram though so I suspect that's it.

Reset Terrain Features (https://smapi.io/mods/#Reset_Terrain_Features) is a mod that lets you reset, clear, or generate everything that spawns on a map using an in-game menu. after 2 solid days of trying to migrate my (extensive) mod list over to 64 bit I went and downloaded the latest smapi beta... huge crash!! after I uninstalled the new version,, all of a sudden mods that were perfectly acceptable this morning are now unacceptable! even after I reinstalled the working smapi version

so I discovered that my save breaks if you downgrade from beta back to 32bit. good news I have a backup. bad news I just wasted about 2 hours of my life trying to downgrade
well... I did not get to have a log of the big crash, because the log parser said it was too large... I can get the log of the current setup, but what gets me is that smapi keeps saying that I had a new verson last time I played & apparently it is judging my mod list according to that.
and now I shall waste 2 more hours moving back to 64bit to do what I originally planned to do which is wait for pytk to update

For those who have followed my journey of having lag i finally fixed it
I don't know whether it was FTM or visible fish, but i altered both, and made it so FTM only spawns stuff only every hour in-game, virtually getting rid of constant checks every 10m in-game, and also halved the visible fish to make ponds less cluttered
And that got rid of my weird 3-5s long fps drops

What version of A&S are you using? This was a bug for some save files with the last beta multiplayer version of A&S

Updating your mods, which it seems like you're aware of. Try just updating a few at a time and then playing for a bit, it's much less daunting than updating them all at once! Prioritize framework-type or "core" mods, as many other mods rely on them and they interact the most severely with Stardew backend code. Right away I see Unique Response Core and would recommend that one first.

Turn off lower-priority mods - Since you've got quite a few mods and some are more involved in game code than others, try turning off the mods that you're less interested in and see if the issue persists. Given the specific error, and that it's getting an error at the Stardew-level of the code as opposed to from a particular mod's function (A&S calls it but it is a vanilla function), I would suspect that a mod that adds new characters may be causing the issue.
I have yet to see this particular error with A&S, but you can also try turning off the stray and wild horse spawning in the A&S Config file- other than that A&S does not add in new characters, only alters existing ones.
- Update A&S - Please download the newest version of A&S on Nexus, as there have been some bug fixes! Again, while I do not suspect A&S due to the type of bug, the newest version will save you some headaches overall. You do not need to update to 4.0.0-beta (which does not yet include all of A&S's features), but there is a 3.2.0-beta.1.8.1 available.

FTM has a config.html that you can go to, and then you put the [FTM] Capitalist Dream Farm 2 Content.json (or whatever farm mod with FTM u use) and then edited the minimum time between the spawn from 10 to 100(which is 1h ingame)

Create a folder in your mod folder, create a file inside the folder named "content.json", open it with a text editor and paste what blueberry sent u, and then create another file named "manifest.json" and edit it using the one example for a content pack in https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Modder_Guide/APIs/Manifest

It might. Sometimes old saves don't play well with new mods. That's why I spend so much time getting my mods just the way I want them before starting a long play through.
Yeah so I gotta start all over again on perhaps the largest farm map I know of: the everfarm map
Nice thing about that map is it's all encompassing. It has fishing spots for lake ocean and river fish Respawnables hardwood a quarry and lots of space to farm

No, that's up to the mod author basically. If they have a GitHub it's possible to do a Pull Request with the translation info, but there's not one standardized way to do it.

Yeah, the log isn't actually super useful for a change, unless it just randomly happens to be one of the things in red.
It just kind of... halts in the middle where the game crashed during load.

Hi, I thought of downloading Stardew Valley Expanded for another save and wanted to ask someone using it.
Does it alter the flow of the game much, and are the new areas fun to explore or a bit unnecessary?
I recommend trying it at least once to know how you feel about it in general, the town changes and changes to areas are decent imo, tho make the map considerably bigger, and there's also very large maps that you won't frequent much at all due to lacking content or u wanna make a giant farm for whatever reason(Which you can already do by just having a custom farm), there's some dark events that you can turn off afaik, and the general flow of the game doesn't change much i think, there's definitely extra stuff you might notice, but in general it's very well integrated into the game with the few exceptions

Hello! I have a question about the Adopt 'n' Skin mod! Specifically related to the wild horses spawning options in the config file. I know for the multiplayer beta at least, the strays and wild horses are disabled due to it acting up with MP and it being buggy in general. Not sure about the singleplayer beta, but I assume it's a similar thing, just hasn't been worked on / added in yet due to needing more testing

@dire fractal OutOfMemoryException errors on Windows mean that your game ran out of memory. The game only has access to a small part of your computer's memory by default. I want to be able to have two different mod groups, one for my single player world and one for multiplayer, I am on Linux POP OS so I followed the instructions for Linux on the Stardew Vally wiki but the only thing that happens when trying to run the scripped it it just opens the text file

Is Custom Furniture working for anyone? I tried it today with some Custom Mods but the items wouldn't show up in the item spawner. π€ Smapi didn't give me any errors regarding CF.
So you can only get them through the furniture catalogue in game?

so, I'm trying to get updated to the beta - 1.5.5 so that I can try some of the mods in 64 bit mode. That update went fine, and runs fine without smapi (which obviously means no mods).
But when I try to install the 3.13 version of smapi required for the beta, I get an error: "SMAPI can't find its 'internal\windows\SMAP.Installer.dll' file." Except, It's right there? in the download. My antivirus doesn't see it as a threat, and I'm not really sure how to tell the installer that the .dll file is right where it thinks it should be. Any ideas?

If you're worried about lag, I recommend the lightweight version.
You won't get things like characters changing into coats outside while it's raining and taking them off inside, but it'll run faster because it's not making checks everytime an NPC moves locations.

Hi, I've been seeing some mods on nexusmods that have [content patcher] and was wondering if i needed to do anything specific for the mod to work of if i can use it regularly
@hot ore The installer should be at least as new as the SMAPI version you have installed. (Newer versions of the installer can uninstall older SMAPI versions, but older installers can't necessarily uninstall newer ones.)
so the 2-day reset OOM avoidance method seems to be working for me, except sometimes itβll croak on me in one day, itβs happened to me about twice

You'll need to install Content Patcher: https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/1915, but otherwise yep just drop them into Mods like any other mod.

Itβs especially brutal cause any warning sign the game starts to give like framerate drops are always near the end of the day when Iβve already done everything I planned to do

idk how to explain it in non coding language and if someone can explain it better please do but. it's probably not that sve doesn't work with that mod but the other way around. i doubt the mod modifies dialogue on demand, so if it doesn't have sve's dialogue added to the content of the mod then it won't do anything to the dialogue from sve

yes. since you said dialogue expansion I thought you meant sve but same would apply to stand alone extended dialogue mods

The game has a stripped-down version of Mono in its folder, but SMAPI mods need part of Mono that's not included with it (specifically libgdiplus).

You seem to be working with the multiplayer beta version of A&S! Multi-horse is not yet implemented in that version yet, and stray spawning is not yet fully-implemented (a few of its features may be missing, and it has not yet thoroughly been tested by beta testers).
The multiplayer beta version uses a new backend code structure that is more resistant to bugs and also compatible with multiplayer, so pieces are being added to it in small chunks at a time. In the meantime, if you would like to use all of the available features, make sure that you are using version 3.2.0-beta.1.8.1 π

oh hey, i was just about to ask a question about this mod. i'm kind of having the opposite problemβi have a save i'd been playing for awhile, and have multiple horses on, and then let my brother join me on today. something is MAJORLY broken, and it's potentially because i had another horse mod on too (horse overhaul), but the glitches are persisting after we removed it. the problem: he has one horse, with its own stable, but copies of the one horse have spawned all over the entire map. they're there even when i'm playing alone, and the appearance of some of them are really glitchy. it's incredibly weird lmao, let me grab some screenshots
