Anyway, I don't know, there are so many mods, and so many of them are fun and interesting! The ones that I use most are for debugging/testing, and then I tend to be drawn to quirky things, like uhhhhhhhhhHHHHhhh mind blanks
I used to use parts of that, but it's gotten pretty heavy and complicated for me, so when I miss how a few characters used to look in older days I just rip the sprites/portraits I want to use out and toss them in my mashup folder ๐

Oh, that makes sense. If you're going to use a mod with a giant scope, though, you might have to plan your mod folder around it more than you would otherwise. I don't use it personally so I have more freedom of weirdness ๐

Well, it would be incompatible with any vanilla sprites/portraits that SVE adds or edits, without compatibility being specifically made for it.
The mod description directly speaks to SVE compatibility
(Even if it's something that could be resolved in a 3rd party patch, which wouldn't be the case for say, multiple Load attempts, not everyone is open to 3rd party patches for compatibility, so I don't know if either mod allows that.)
its all configurable, you can make it just not effect the characters sve effects
(It would be so easy to resolve that situation with a 3rd party patch if we had directory climbing eyebrows waggle (and if Stardew modding community was more open to that in the first place, of course...))

I have it set on smol jump, no leaping over buildings with a single bound, but it's a great option :P
(And mixed feelings on the horse jump. That's objectively better in every way vs JumpOver, except... leaping off the horse while it went through the fence or whatever, was hilarious.)

If you're interested, we do have a lightweight version available which is more streamlined? It just has one outfit per season and festival and only a small number of extra features such as aerobics outfits.
Alternatively, if you don't care about the seasonal outfits at all and just want some of the diversity edits, there's a non-seasonal version available too ๐

(When I am not scared off by stuff like "2340982340923 mods have updates" and such ๐ ) That's nice that there are lighter versions available; the last time I tried to add the full one my PC said no :D But for a few NPCs I'm just used to their DSV versions and it's nice to see them around...
MO2 only counts mods in folders so mods likes SVE when it should count as 4 mods, it only counts as 1 in MO2 so technically i have 97 mods but MO2 shows less cuz some mods are in the same folder
I haven't got confirmation on it yet, but I'm hoping that the new official 64-bit will ease some of the load that the DSV main pack adds too ๐ Since people are reporting that it decreases lag
I use the hell out of MO2 for Bethesda modding but am wizened stubborn manual installer for Stardew, is just so simple for me to move a bunch of stuff around and batch rename and etc etc. The updates is a pain, but with Stardew (or even/especially Bethesda games, really) I also don't always want to update everything for various reasons, either ๐
from my experience i noticed that 1.5.5 does improve performance but my memory usage in task manager increased, probably as a side effect
Oo, that would be cool. I know a couple other people that used to use it but started getting ye olde hiccups in later versions
I'm a linux gamer. I'm used to having to install things by hand and deal with compatibility issues on a larger scale than just mods.
I wish Routine's mod-updater-mod concept had taken off, even if not in that exact (and somewhat finicky, if I remember) form. It was kind of a neat workaround...

Which is why I always use a mod manager in games where you need to overwrite game files, yeah. But in that specific context, SMAPI is the manager already -- installing things into the Content folder is heavily discouraged, and there's no load order concerns on the user end.

There is no mod sorting in Stardew, SMAPI handles that itself.

knowing where everything is, if they can be updated, easy links to nexus, and organization and such
(Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you shouldn't use what you're comfortable with, or anything! I was just clarifying that the examples didn't necessarily translate to needing one, and the manager itself does add more overhead which often makes it harder for new users to solve problems. For people that are experienced with them and prefer them, or even are just willing to learn, that's obviously less of a problem ๐ )
(And no matter which one you pick, they're all still a ways from the worst days of manager chaos :D)

@river rapids Okay! So uh. The host could not do the debug commands. Said that the command was unknown. So I decided to try the command out, and I think it worked! ..Sort of. It said that the animals properties were cleared, but it also completely crashed the host's game. Granted, we were both standing outside / around the animals when I did it. We are going to test out both of us being inside before I do it again ( My game was fine, I just booted to the menu from the farm closing ). Because we've already started loading it back up, if it happens again, I'll have her grab the Smapi log before we move on with the testing!
do you also have a file on which mods needed to have capitals changed to work? I've found them on content, Objects, Crops, and even a manifest
Weirdly enough, on my end, it gave a red error of custom spouse patio before it says something about taking me back to the main title on the same line
I've run into these almost entirely in content-adding mods where the framework didn't account for it, and I don't actually use many new content mods ๐ The manifest was the dll name I assume, did you happen to report to author and/or mark it on https://smapi.io/mods ? It's nice for potential issues to get logged there.
hmm.. well if you have windows: disable animations and all background apps in settings.
if you have nividia graphics card:
go to nvidia control panel, manage 3d settings, program settings, select StardewModdingAPI.exe and then select your nvidia GPU and click apply.
this may (or may not) help you. :>

@river rapids Okay we tried it again, she was able to do the command. And it worked! I haven't loaded into it yet though. It seems like the issue was caused because we were outside / near the animals?
i useally get 30-60 FPS when playing so its fine

That's... strange. Do you have a lot of animals? If the computer that's hosting is a potato or doesn't have a lot of CPU power then I could see that happening. I also wasn't anticipating that a non-host would call the command, so that could cause.. issues.
If the command was unknown then DebuggingMode in the Config wasn't set to true.

yes I have been reporting but not on the smapi site. A good idea. Do you use Alternative Textures? I have been talking with the author trying to figure out why it is crashing the game when loading a farm on year two and was wondering if it is a linux problem.
I think she typed it wrong honestly since it worked the second time after the crash. Her computer is better than mine, but we do have a decent amount of animals

the skins themselves are all loaded when the save file is opened, not at re-skin time, so the biggest potential for a crash would be the non-host issue when doing a reset or if reskinning a bunch of animal at once (which I've never seen cause a crash, but it would also matter how many other computationally-expensive mods you have running alongside it)

Can you try unzipping the file you downloaded, and installing its folder intoC:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\Mods ?

i did that. i can run the mod in something similar to a black text box, but i cant use the in-game mod menu
Can you take a screenshot of the inside of that folder and send it here? The mod doesn't show as installed in your SMAPI log, so we have to track it down ๐

Everything inside of the Mods folder should be in a folder of its own ! CJB Cheats should have come inside a folder - you can remove those individual files and reinstall it with the folder intact, or just make a new folder inside Mods and drag those three files into it.
@crimson salmon I do get the same relative path issue with AT (which I guess is fixed in the current stable?), and am poking at that, but I don't have an issue loading old saves so far. Have you uploaded one of your crashing farms somewhere to check out?
@river rapids What is the "short ID"? The host is trying to set the skin for her cat, but the list creatures command only has the short ID and the skin ID, but it doesn't work. The randomize skin using the short ID worked, but not the set skin

More specifically, it says that the mod isn't handling the command because the input string was not in correct format
the short ID is the number to use to reference a particular creature! if trying to set a particular skin, for example cat_42, and the cat you're trying to change the skin for has the short ID 8, then you would call set_skin 8 42

been trying all day to get SVE to work the only thing i found that works is to disable needing the custom music mod but then i have no sound i would really love to play this mod but its preventing me from loading it
We're waiting until the official release comes out to update anything
updates can cause conflicts, I would do them anyway. SMAPI is set to make the majority of mods work when the release comes out.
That being said, are you on 1.5.5, or 1.5.4?

huh. I have CJB cheats and CJB item spawner on their most updated and those work without the beta, but there was a change recently to some non-beta-specific updates where they were previously beta-specific
oh yup, check out each of those mods individually, just looking at CJB menu I can see that 1.29.1 is in fact for 1.5.4
...hm. that's a strange error you've got, let me check with the code to make sure I didn't introduce anything odd with that update that I didn't realize
this looks like you acicdentally put the cheats menu into the base Stardew Valley folder instead of into the Mods folder

It looks to me like there might be an animal, pet, or horse on your farm that doesn't yet have a Short ID (which they should all have if the debug command was successfully run). Could you call list_creatures all for me and double check that?
is your default audio device currently actually an audio device?
is there a mod that shows fish info (body of water type, time and season) that works in 1.5 AND also works with More New Fish?

other than that you are having OOM errors, which means you can either update to the beta (1.5.5) which is officially 64-bit or download the unofficial 64-bit patch. If you don't want to do that, look at the other steps on this page:

I just updated to the official beta. I had the unofficial 64-bit patch first. It definitely feels like it runs better now, haha. I had to remove a couple mods (because I wanted to use DGA and PPJA Redux) but other than that it's okay

so. a lot of updates for mods are apparently for beta stuff... do i just leave them as they are?
or do i upgrade to beta?
ah- I forgot, I also had to update a lot of mods (mainly from pathos/space)
if you don't go to beta, you can leave them as they are
unless they are for 1.5.4 (if that's the version you're on)

I had to remove Greenhouse and Island Gatherers. To use DGA, I removed the old PPJA, Hisame's new recipes and Ssaturns oriental kitchen. Other than that I updated the mods that had a beta file.

hmm.. well, two reasons for me.
One is, if you remove SVE, your stardew loads waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay faster.
I would yeet SVE if one of the mods i like didn't require it, but the author is stubborn and says he ain't gonna make a non-sve version

y'know whats funny, this could also be cuz SVE is almost half the size of the vanilla game and it's not even finished yet 
do keep in mind my vanilla folder has SMAPI in it so i guess that also goes to the size total
it also applies lots of patches to the game which doesn't help the load time haha

does anyone here use the dinosaur overhaul mod? I can't get the dinos to incubate in the barn with the special incubator (the dino never hatches there) and so when it grows it's stuck inside the coop which sucks

i had just installed custom NPC exclusions and the fixes
i got a bad pc, so i can't help much on that front, but i noticed that window and windowless mod are laggy and fullscreen works fine, and depending on the mods you use, stuff gets laggy real fast, like how Dynamic Night Time was my problem which it'd lag the game a lot whenever time changed, and same with FIshing Info Overlays that dropped my game to 20 fps if i was holding a fishing rod cuz of the scans it requires to work properly so i removed both

and at some point every time i entered the barn i got the whole 'a new baby has hatched' and the prompt for a name but the incubator kept. going
Maybe this is too specific for me, but if anyone experiences too much frame drops with Dynamic Night Time, i definitely recommend Ambient Lights, seems to do the same thing, still has drops, but they're definitely less intensive than Dynamic Night, given I've only tested it for one in-game day
That is exceptionally odd
The only one that has a short ID is the cat, but since it has to look at all creatures to find the one with the right short ID to give a skin to, it runs into problems. Did you save after the host used asdebug_force_add_all? Because if it crashed before you next saved then that might be an issue
Uh, yeah, the host crashed, I was fine, but we couldn't save the farm because her game completely crashed. But when we loaded it back up, host did the command this time just fine, everything was.. fine. We saw our animals, they all got assigned random skins like normal, my horse's skin I think changed when she was randomizing the cat's skin
We ended up removing Adopt temporarily because it was admittedly giving us little bits of lag ( We're gonna wait until the 1.5.5 update of the game so we can add it back in, and a few other random small mods ) but aside from not being able to set skins, not even on the cat with the set skin command, it was fine
We have so many animals and have gotten even more since the testing began, I hope we didn't screw ourselves up too badly

A&S has never really caused lag in my experience ๐ค I'm wondering if it's a mod conflict and A&S is fighting with some other mod. Do you have any other skin mods installed, rather than just as skins within the /assets/skins folder? Also, if you do want to give it another try, make sure that you've switched off the stray spawn option in the Config, since that's the area that's least tested
even 50 animals I suspect shouldn't be causing lag, based on the way that A&S runs
The Stray code is added on top of a version that I did in fact have beta testers work on, and they never ran across complications, so that's where I'm suspicious the issue might be (if not a mod conflict)

Uh, I was, however I do not believe I had any of them enabled. I have Leh's Animal Overhaul, but have everything except chickens, ducks, and dinos disabled ( Used Elle's for the rest, but I outright removed Elle's things before testing ) , but I did disable them before loading into the farm, leaving only the background critters enabled. And yeah, I went ahead and disabled it ^^ I'm fine with not having my own pet at the moment, I'd rather wait until it's fully tested before risking crashing anymore
I have stray chance percent to 0, disabled the spawn, and disabled the announcement of strays spawning
-wait, I'm not familiar with some of the newer mods, but I'm pretty sure Custom Companions would have all its functions covered by A&S- is there any reason you have them both installed?

....oh no. You've got SVE in there. I'm. Not 100% sure they work together, but I've been given the impression that they do? But basically it's really hard to find the problem because of how expansive that mod is
Ridgeside is an expansion mod, adds in new NPCs, new maps, etc, like SVE but isn't as.. demanding as SVE

I wouldn't call that as a non-host, there's some functions that should be locked to the host calling them because of what's needed to have multiplayer work, I just forgot to lock them
I've used Ridgeside and SVE with Adopt before, but it was always in singleplayer.. But, to be fair, that was before they added the custom companion thing as a dependency, so I never used it in singleplayer before withit
I'm still not sure about Custom Companions- I'm going to ask some modders that work with CC real quick and see if they suspect that or another issue. Might not have a response right away from them but I'll keep looking at the log.
The multiplayer compat version is much different than the previous version of A&S, as much of the backend code was rewritten, so what worked before may not be a good indicator of what works now
I think Obamoose and Raf have a good bit of fiddling experience with it, Raf is the owner of Ridgeside and Obamoose is like.. second in command, I guess? You could ask them

i found the culprit. for anyone wondering about lag in 64bit, for me it was mods that animated items using content patcher-animations. i remove those mods and all my stuttering and fps drops are gone

I think a mod has to be made with compatibility in mind for it, so not all mods' configs will show up under it

If the mod isn't made with the config showing up under Mod Config's menu in mind, then no, it won't
And I don't think you can edit all that much while in a save to begin with
Most config edits require a game restart to work, Generic Mod Config is able to get around it, but I think it's because you do things from the main menu
If a mod's config is compatible, then it'll show up under the gear icon on the title screen

(to prevent this happening, you need to actually take the mod folders out of their zips, not just turn the zips into identically-named non-zip folders)

btw the cause of this is just that stardew has no way to automatically move things when a map is changed, so if you change map mods, some formerly-valid coordinates on that map are likely to end up in out of bounds, but crops, buildings, etc remain in the same coordinates
a really crude work around is to swap farms in winter (no crops), and temporarily install the noclip mod (so you can walk out of bounds and go remove all the plants/rocks/trees that are in the wrong spot). I'm not sure if you can then get the wizard to move your buildings for you?
i think robin can also move buildings
though she can't move them from really far out of bounds - you'll have to move them to be visible from the bounds of the map you're changing to

Per the skipped mods section, it also looks like you may have incorrectly packaged mods that tried to install, or XNB mods. Idk how you'd get rid of those since you're using Vortex. Does it give you the option to delete those folders?

Hello! How do I "downgrade" myself? I currently can't play because smapi needs to be some update higher and if I play vanilla, I can't co-op because 64 bit is higher than the 32 bit version. Is there anything I can do?

Is it normal for SVE to make rainy days extra laggy? I already had some lag throughout the years of vanilla playing when it rained, but it got near impossible to fish now

okay well the first thing is your Custom NPC fixes is for the beta smapi, try replacing it with the older version of the mod. Custom NPC 1.2.3
I am trying to double check SVE to see if you picked up the beta version as well
but try swapping the Custom NPC fixes first, and see if that does anything.
on rainy days when you use SVE it has a foggy/misty weather i believe, you can disable that in the config
Also, @nop your spacecore is out of date, which will affect things. Content Patcher and Json Assets too. Update these three and downgrade NPC fixes.

MSI afterburner is used for a lot of things but i mainly use it to get less mouse lag in games when turning the Vsync on, but since it makes stardew valley choppy i turn it off when im playing

i believe there are some BFAV ones on nexus, you can probably grab the pngs and convert them to CP (to replace the dinosaurs) for personal use
I tried that, and uh, they were pixel vomits and partial pieces of the dragons.. xD
I don't know what went wrong, they aren't that much bigger than the dino sprites

There's multiple that do that. SVE changes the main map, Stardew Valley Expanded, but Ridgeside and East Scarp also add in new areas and NPCs

ah, the dinosaurs are 16 x 16 while these dragons are 32 x 32 which explains the partial pieces

I installed the Stardew Valley Expanded mod following its instructions, but when I open the game and start a new save, everything looks the same as the original game, and it's clear that the mod isn't working. Any ideas for how to troubleshoot this to figure out why it isn't loading correctly? Here is a picture of my mods folder in case that is helpful.

Oh I think you forgot to set launch options on steam.
When you launch the game, there should be smapi window opening at first to load your mods in.

i need a professional ๐ smapi keeps telling me i can update SVE but for the life of me i cannot figure out why ๐ฉ i removed and redownloaded like four times. is it just because there's technically a beta version that's also out? game is running fine and sve is working, which i why i was confused

which is why nothing is working
open the link you sent and check the skipped mods sections, and update SMAPI
also, you dont have SVE installed, just grandpa's farm
and dont use xnb mods

Are mods updated for the latest version generally compatible with the mobile version or do I need to find ones for that patch?
nope, for mobile you need mod versions that were released pre december 21, 2020

hey guys, quick question. i am trying to instal the Smapi beta but the .bat just closes instantly and if i install manualy it wont launc hthe game either.

been playing stardew for years and this is the first time this happened. started a new save file, using smapi and the npc map location mod. when i enter the community center to read the first bundle thing in the rat problem quest (to get the letter from the wizard) there's a glitch where i "glide", can't interact or leave the community center, so i have to close the game. tried with vanilla and removed smapi and all mods from the folder, tried the same thing again - game crashed. ConcernedApe's suggestion (i found in the stardew forum from dec 2020) was to change the "savefix" in the save file but i'm at 35 and he said not to proceed if it's greater than 31. playing the german version. anyone know what to do?

Ridgeside village got kinda messed up and the beach as well ๐ค
I think it might be because of stacking walk to desert + Zuzu city + Springtown, but the map is fine when NPC is off

It works with the regular farm map but doesn't overlay properly with some of the others

everything is offset by like 5 tiles to the right
cus all its doing after i click download manually is not showing up anything, it just stays on the same page and does nothing
UI Info Suite has a known bug with zoom and everything being offset. Get UI Info Suite 2, it's on Github
Make sure your zoom level and ui level are at the same level
