Personally, I just do the delete and replace for everything. I'd rather just be in the habit then remember which one the author said to do. I know delete/replace isn't going to cause an issue.
Flash with SVE in particular suggested it's just better to safe than sorry and completely delete, in his case
he's always changing something big or planning to
The ONLY advantage I know of for overwriting is you probably won't lose your config file (since very few mods INCLUDE a config file, as opposed to generating one the first time the game is run)
I also prefer to delete/install, although some people don't want the hassle of copying over the config file each time

Which is fair with keybinds; I actually have a sheet of paper on my desk for which mods I have keybinds adjusted for so I remember to fix them when they update.
There's only one SVE download file, it's the top one on its Nexus page. the other two are farm maps and aren't necessary for it.
If you mean in that zip file, all 4 of those folders in the SVE download are required

yeah we were having problems so i literally sent them the zip of my mod folder just in case
well, the issue is with adopt n skin, so I would try removing that and seeing if it works

No problem. I know there IS a working version because I'm running it at home. Only issues I ever have is that I occasionally need to put it away and pull it back out again for it to start murdering on my behalf.

Playing with SVE and more fish, can't seem to ever get the frilled shark to spawn in the lost valley. read somewhere it has to be raining/snowing, so tried and still nothing. I was looking at the content.json and was wondering if there was anything in there i can edit to make them more common?

You do have to manually rename the file and put it in the folder, but there's A LOT of choices.

hi, im trying to download mods for stardew valley android can someone show me how to do it without using ubuntu or mono on chromebook?
testing it, this is what i noticed. it does seem to afflict iridium ore always. i withdrew 5 ore from my chest, and tried to withdraw 500 from it, and was able to withdraw 5. with 4, 4. 3, 3. withdrew 500 from my chest, and was able to duplicate 500 from it... you get the picture. the duping doesn't seem to happen while i have a chest open, but only from within my own inventory

it says that because when you go to that menu it expects a chrome recovery tool

Hi there! Earlier today I had said that a friend of mine are trying to play with Extended Mod, and either she keeps getting booted from the game, or the time for screen transition is ridiculous. I've got the SMAPI logs for both us. If someone/people could have a look and see what they think, we'd be very appreciative.

and it prevents some parts of SVE from loading and causes endless error spam and probably slows the game down

You can a) look at the SMAPI screen before actually beginning the game... if the mods loaded OK there is a very good chance they will work OR b) just go into the places where you would mine the clumps and see if they are there

Hi, looking for some help. Decided to play SDV after a couple months away. I knew I had mods to update to my plan was to open SDV, let it run for a bit, then check my SMAPI log and see what needed to be updated. However, when I start SDV from Steam, it comes up with the menu (New/Load etc). I click Load, click on my farm, and it comes up with a black screen with the "Loading" bit at the bottom. The other screen with the SMAPI info and mods doesn't appear, and then it just shuts down.
I've tried getting a SMAPI log about it. In ErrorLogs, a new text doc appeared. It started off with this: Message: Error loading "Characters\GuntherSilvian". File not found.
I tried to add it to the log parser to see if I could get further info but the log parser said it couldn't do it!
Any advice and help is welcome!
Uhh does SVE works on mobile using the smapi app ?
Looks like your launch options got cleared so you're trying to load a heavily modded save with an entirely vanilla game
reinstall SMAPI - there's probably been an update since you last played anyways - and set up your launch options again
triangled you'll need an older version of SVE, current SVE is for stardew 1.5 and android is still on 1.4

latest silliness from my game: all of my chickens and ducks decided to stand on the same tile so there's this one Pile Of Z-Fighting Birds and a lone baby pterodactyl in this coop
and since i have adopt n skin none of those z-fighting sprites are the same
there were 6 of them on one tile
and I thought it was creepy enough when my void chicken and blue chicken occupied the same tile, turning it into a constantly flashing nightmare XD

the flower pots from events are part of BigCraftables tilesheets iirc, so it could be that your copy of Gwen's Craftables is somewhat borked

I use every Gwen mod, so yeah, they are not broken in itself, but perhaps something happened during download or updating

What controls fish swim speed? I got the decorated fish tanks and More Goldfish but the goldfish just zip back and forth across the tanks... very ungoldie like.

I ran my character around and up and down and wasn't fast enough to catch it. It's like she'll be running and for a half second she's caught with both legs up in the air... it gets worse the more "stuff" is on the screen.
While this wouldn't be a deal breaker if that was the only way I could play the game, it does get irritating after a while and I switch back to 32 bit where movement is smooth
where can I find recolour mods? I searched on Nexus and can't seem to find anything? I remember Elle's recolour mod on Nexus but that doesn't appear to be there anymore!

@slim atlas After a lot of testing, another mod that was causing a lot of slowdown, especially on larger maps, was Custom Tracker.
I think because it's replacing the games built-in forage tracking with it's own "scan the whole map constantly" system, but that's speculation.

Yesterday the clean mods folder (with SVE and CE) did NOT work. The morning after restarting, it does work. I have not changed anything, I just added the same SVE version I tried adding before, again. The CE window after double-rightclicking my farmhouse pops up now with SVE and CE on a save with the clean mods folder. I also have not changed anything with the settings from my laptop or SMAPI/Stardew.
I thought: "Will my original mod folder work now after restarting?" No, it still doesn't, so I am assuming the problem has shifted to a different mod now. I have no idea why, as before I checked every folder and removed a couple and checked if the problem still persisted - which it did until I removed SVE - and now it's fixed with a 'clean' mod folder but not with my original.
I have added a save made on my own laptop with my original mod folder in which it does not work.
For reference if needed: I'm running on a 64-bit operated system (windows home) and my right click buttons on my mouse work (haha). I did not update anything in the meantime from yesterday and now.
Hmm, I looked at Eemie's, found it on ModDrop, but found it's no compatible with SDV Expanded. I might need to check the others

this is how you should put them in the folder, just rename each one the next number
it doesn't matter which number each have, as long as it goes from 1 to etcetera
yeah i did that right, but i cant change the skin of my 2nd cat because for some reason my old cat and new cat both have ID #1

I think the skin of the cat you get is random, so you can't choose which skin you get (I think??)

Yes you can add two wallnuts, but your savegame Will be corrupted. For some like me that is an issue. True it has no uncircumventable gameplay effect, but it has a deep effect. And will show up under https://mouseypounds.github.io/stardew-checkup/. If you did not have said Issue you either...

I'm not sure about SVE, but this is why it doesn't work with your full folder:
Skipped mods [...] Customize Exterior because you have multiple copies of this mod installed. To fix this, delete these folders and reinstall the mod:
Mods\[Prerequisites\CustomizeExterior,Mods\Building\CustomizeExterior.

Hello fellow farmers. I found this discord and hoping you can help or provide clarification. My friend and and want to play SDV multiplayer w/mods. Per reddit she only has the mods installed on her machine, she has the saved game on her computer and she invites me to play.
The only problem is about 10 min into game play or when a screen switches to another area (I.E from my farm to town square) it kicks me off the game. We don't know what to do? Does anyone have a solution to this problem? We have both searched the internet and reddit without an answer. Hoping someone else has had this issues and resolved it. For reference we are both PC players.

hi guys, i have a problem... in my mail a letter came from lewis talking about a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, the problem is that this letter doesn't disappear after i read it... i won't be able to read the other letters while this one doesn't go away and I don't know how to solve it 😦
This might be a hint, but whenever I opened the mail to read this letter from lewis, a message would pop up in the SMAPI console

After some testing back and forth I figured out that for some reason the weird error was caused by the name of my buildings subfolder. i had .../mods/buildings and i just had to change it to .../mods/bldngs to fix it 🤷 Thanks for the help!

Custom NPC Exclusions because you have multiple copies of this mod installed. To fix this, delete these folders and reinstall the mod: Mods/CustomNPCExclusions, Mods/-Stardew Valley Expanded--3753-1-13-8-1625195234/CustomNPCExclusions. if you look on the first red messages on the log there are few of these type of problems, fixing them should solve it @opaque patrol

SVE bundles some mods with the main download and because of how archive extractor programs can create an extra folder based on the archive name it's not necessarily obvious, so this happens somewhat regularly @opaque patrol

@dusky canyon I loaded all your mods with a test save in 64-bit, and Customize Exterior worked fine for the farmhouse. Looking at your log, it loaded all the textures but it didn't detect any double-right-click on a building. Which building are you testing with?

An unofficial update to Convenient Chests which fixes the crafting from chest bug (as did the previous unofficial by Quintin) but also fixes compatibility with different zoom levels. Now I and others can hopefully enjoy having this mod work right even when you need to change your zoom. :)...
I'm not too familiar with multiplayer, but I think for the best experience everyone should have all the same mods in their own folder

@opaque patrol Stardew Valley Expanded bundles some of its dependencies. You can fix it by deleting one of the duplicates. In this case, you can delete either Mods/CustomNPCExclusions or Mods/-Stardew Valley Expanded--3753-1-13-8-1625195234/CustomNPCExclusions to fix it.

Hi Dizzy, you can see the folders through Windows Explorer or however you typically view folders. You should have a Mods folder in your Stardew Valley folder, wherever it's installed.

Do note that to install mods, you'll need to unzip them (so they should be in a folder rather than a .zip or .rar)

You can use any image editing program you like, a lot of people here prefer Aseprite though.

The farm building shouldn't overlap the craftables though, they're two separate files.

that would explain why it works without SVE, but then again, the clean mod folder with SVE and CE started working suddenly in the morning, while my original mod folder (the current one) does not
@round agate if you're still using the mod manager to launch the game and manage your mods it could cause the problem anyway

@round agate SMAPI is the mod loader and modding API, which lets mods change the game. It's not a mod manager itself (though it does do update checks for you).
and the Greenhouse from Grandpa's Farm surely moved it to a different place

If they're named properly
Portraits have to named just after the character and then with _IslandSouth after the character name for the beach portraits. Also, you have to have like two sets of portraits for ||Leo (ParrotBoy.png, Leo.png)|| and ||Professor Snail (SafariGuy.png, Professor Snail.png)||
yeah you could download a portrait pack and then just replace those files
why would i need two sets for those?
there are portraits for the character on the beach, so if you don't have one for them it'll revert them to vanilla portraits when you're on the beach

Hi all, any help for a desperate Chromebook user wanting to use mods - WITHOUT going into Developer Mode. I've managed to get the SMAPI installer on my device (using this guide: https://beebom.com/how-sideload-android-apps-chromebook/) but then, opening the SMAPI app, I still have to click 'Install' and after getting at 100% I still get a pop-up saying I need to run in Developer Mode. Which I don't want to do, ideally.
Edit: I've checked the forums (and this Discord), but so far any solutions presented have not worked for me)

My changes to SpaceCore actually already made it into the official version. But this nightly contains additional changes (since last official) implemented by Pathos that increases SpaceCore performance significantly

"Prepare for release" likely means that everything is working, but they'd like to clean-up and make the code look tidy and readable just before the final package is released.

@dusky canyon @dire fractal I can't test on Android unfortunately. It might be compatible, if you edit its manifest.json and remove the MinimumApiVersion line. Generally it should be obvious if it's incompatible, SMAPI will refuse to load it outright.
(my starting and load times have been significantly reduced since updating to the most recent spacecore so i can now test CE)

Well I had to reinstall my windows a while back resulting in me reinstalling vortex and my mods. I backed up my file manually just in case. I tried to update everything with vortex but I run into this weird issue every time I install or update a mod

I've noticed that if I use CJB Item Spawner to make all JA-added flowers the same color, I don't have near as many problems with the JA Shuffle. I just spawn in the number of flowers I get from a harvest, that I want to keep. I don't spawn in extras. It's not 100% but it seems to help a bit.

Pretty much. It may not be 100% effective, but it should minimize any shuffle
oh, and shuffle will only affect modded items, so if your machines all have vanilla stuff in them, they're fine

Also, starting the game is much faster now, but it seems loading/creating an actual new save compensates for it as it seems a bit longer now (with the newest release spacecore from github) ;-; (took 31 min to start and create a new save, vs spacecore on nexus took 29min, so not a huge difference! :>>)

i don't know, but wav with custom music does have the advantage that it doesn't have to be converted to another format (wav) before it can be used. not sure how long the conversion takes

i've also heard something about ogg having stability issues with the in-game radio, but not sure about that

my stardew valley works fine but it often goes not responding and takes ages, is there anyways i can make it faster? i have very good specs so this shouldn’t be a issue

Yeah, it's pretty much mods or quick load, take your pick. My 550ish mods take around 15 to load, but runs just fine otherwise.
around 10 minutes, the mod count is around 130 i think
so it should be fine then?

well, you have pretty much all the usual big mods so that seems pretty normal to me
dont alt-tab out and check if that makes it faster
