The solution from the wiki isn't working for me, it just causes my game to crash the second a controller is detected. The sliiiightly different version from the github thread about it does let the game launch, but doesn't enable controller input (and does crash when the controller is re-connected).

Unfortunately the Recovery Mode terminal solution isn't working either. When I boot back into normal mode, it just tells me that it blocked the extension anyways, bc Valve needs to update it (I'm assuming this is because it's a kext and the full release of Big Sur outright blocks them no matter what)

I've tested an Xbox One controller, a Switch Pro controller, and a wired Xbox 360 controller so far. (We're currently using all of our ps4 controllers for the ps4, so I wouldn't be able to play SDV with one on my computer anyways)

hmm, i recently rebooted stardew valley out of curiosity of the new stuff in the game -- and it turns out, awhile ago i had installed some mods and it's not letting me boot up my game since i think i installed 'em incorrectly back then
so now i'm currently unsure of how to safely uninstall the modding api, as i don't wanna lose any of my game files in the process of doing so

It's a year 2 modded save, I just loaded it, took screenshots of my chests and redownloaded a few mods, due to a sprite issue. When I re download everything and run the game, it doesn't recognize the save

It looks like it is the known issue with the Entoarox Framework with v2.5.4, you'll have to revert down a version (v2.5.3) to work around it until they update it / fix it.

you should be able to fix it like so:

1. press win + r (windows key and r at the same time)
2. in the box that pops up, enter %appdata%
3. go to the stardew valley folder in the window that pops up
4. rename startup_preferences to startup_preferences_BAK

this will reset your settings by forcing the game to generate a new settings file

you will lose whatever settings you had but it should stop it from crashing

I don't think you need to uninstall mods, but you should reinsstall both SMAPI and stardew, and run stardew at least once after reinstall before reinstalling SMAPI.

If there aren't special instructions, its safe to assume its the default behaviour of unzipping the folders into the /Mods folder

technically no, but. since the base game is 32-bit, it can only use 3-4gbs of ram (no matter how much ram you have on your pc, it can only access 3-4gb). so memory-hungry mods (ones that use custom music, like sve and rsv for examples), will eat into your precious accessible ram.
that said, a fix for that is in the works and is currently in testing. you can download it from the making mods channel, and help test XD

The parenthesis in the program files folders might be causing issues and the folder itself has a bunch of annoying protections built into it

It's hard to explain without spoilers, but there's essentially a grade you get by year 3, plus it's usually when you complete certain milestones, so that's why the story sorta "concludes" around year 3. I've made it maybe twice.
There's a ton of end game content added by each game update though

I should add I don't know anything about Hardew Valley.
I don't think there are checks in the game for which farm buildings you have, so you're good there.
Certain events / cutscenes are tied to progress but may have a "time passed" fallback.
For example, the pet adoption event with Marnie is triggered when you make X money (idr offhand, it's specified in the wiki), or day Y has passed (again don't remember offhand).
So in that sense, that event / cutscene will take place after day Y regardless of whether you met the money achievement.
I learned this the hard way while testing mods and getting super irritated because it was supposed to be a quick test save LOL
For friendship / heart events, it may depend on the event. Most should be tied to friendship progression, but it's possible that some may have a date fallback too. Just depends on how it was coded
