if you haven't sideloaded any mods, you can hit the purge button on vortex to temporarily remove vortex mods
then clean out whatever's left in your mod folder
and deploy again

Ignore me. I'm inclined to disparage Vortex because I feel like SDV modding is EXTREMELY EASY and there's no excuse for how not-awesome it is.

because.. it does it far more cleverly than nessicary or wanted generally.
I think what you mean to say is that Vortex deploys and manages mods in an extremely convoluted and user-unfriendly way, considering it's supposed to be the mass market tool for modding.
to be fair, the only time I tried to install the mods by myself, it just didnt work, so I went with vortex. But its always the same, after an update, tons of problems. I'll eventually abandon vortex too
Vortex is great for other games but for Stardew Moddrop and Vortex are pretty unnecessary

Vortex... is just absolutely pointless overkill for modding SDV. SDV doesn't have some hugely complex overwrites system, or load ordering, or anything like that. You don't have to stage mods before you deploy them, you just need to drop mods into a folder and they load.

if you 'browse local files' in steam it'll open up the correct location
so the steam one
appdata is where vortex stages mods
yeah when you install a mod, vortex unpacks each of them to a folder in appdata
so when you purge or deploy, it uses those files to decide what to add or remove

In something like Skyrim, that can be quite a bit cleaner. Skyrim modding tends to work by literally overwriting files, from the base game or other mods, so the order you do things in can have a big effect.
In SDV, the mods folder is separate and very clean
So, yes. All you have to do is put mods into the Mods folder.

SMAPI is a work of art. It's extremely forthright with what's wrong.
No, SMAPI is installed with a little installer. It creates the Mods folder.
smapi goes into the base game folder, not /mods, but yeah it handles itself
Usually you don't even have to tell it where the game is these days even. You just run the "Installer for Windows" or whatever and then hit "1" to install, and it'll do it.

SMAPI cleans up after itself pretty well
In fact though, if you run the SMAPI installer you can just say "uninstall" and it'll remove itself, then delete the MOD folder and it's clean

No, you don't. You need zero mods to run SMAPI. The errors you got were missing dependencies for other mods

i copied the file to the E:\SSD 250GB\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\Mods\Stardew Valley Expanded[TMX] Stardew Valley Expanded\assets\Maps and it worked
I do this same thing in Rimworld and Skyrim actually. Most games with sufficiently rich modding communities wind up with something like this. Except The Sims. That place is cancer.

I don't blame sims fans for being angry so much though. Imagine if it cost $400 to buy all the furniture in SDV.
That's with heavy discounts from the Winter Sale, lol. No, I don't blame them, but it's obnoxious how insanely mercenary some of the Sims modders are. There's a ton of Sims mods which are locked behind paywalls, either for updates or access at all. As well, everything is... Walled Garden style, essentially. Parlor modding, where everybody has their own little fiefdom that they insist is the best way to display their stuff, and so instead of something like the Nexus you have 20,000 individual modding sites with between 1 and 50 mods each from various modders, and they can never agree on anything except that they kind of despise each other and anyone with different taste is stupid.
and you can generally look at EA for their similar practice for the root of that :p
I guess they figure if people are willing to pay for furniture packs, they're willing to pay for bigger mods or even better furniture packs. Not that it's right, it is absolutely obnoxious.
This is a wild conspiracy theory, but I wouldn't be surprised if EA had people on payroll just to make the modding community more toxic to push people away from that and back to official content
Honestly I realized that if SDV, had the 'budget' of the Sims the game would be very different, but I realize I'd given up on the Sims with 4, and came to Stardew because it was less stressful

I don't use anything like that at all honestly. The customization options in the base game are pretty amazing. Like a lot of things, it all comes down to your personal tastes I think.

glad it worked! i don't think there's anything else you can do except getting into the nitty-gritty and picking out exactly which dialogue lines you wanted. which is almost like making your own mod at that point xP

content patcher isn't that difficult to get your head around! so i say give it a go ๐
if you want to check what's up with alex and elliott's dialogue you could have a look in the dialogue.json file from that mod
maybe it doesn't have a lot of marriage lines
well since you're getting the dialogue and schedules from the babysitter mod you could just copy paste lines from another mod

The bug was Npc Claire and Martin being stuck in bus, but Claire can leave, Martin can't
also that bug with the bus stop is affecting the children NPCs too. to fix it go into the config file for ChildToNPC and change "DoChildrenWander" to false

how many kids do you have?
ChildtoNPC by default starts working one month after the child is born. if you want it to start working earlier you need to go into the ChildtoNPC config file and change "AgeWhenKidsAreModified" to 56 (works immediately)

Haha as a general note, when getting your log, it's good to load your save. We'll see stuff we wouldn't, if you get the log from title screen. Especially if you were getting errors while doing a thing

i get a bug where each child has a clone that stays in the bed and doesn't move so it could be a similar bug to that. it's a bug from Child to NPC
unfortunately the mod author for ChildtoNPC has not be online for ages so the mod hasn't been fixed

yeah, the unofficial updates only made it work with the recent game/smapi, they don't fix any bugs

I just downloaded Stardew Valley Extended and the mods that are needed. My main question is are the folders that are contained within SVE needed?
I always use the Prismatic White horse, so it's a super cute "unicorn" and I never add anything to it

Mod load order in general, yes. So by default SMAPI loads mods in alphabetical order from your Mods folder

Dependencies allow 1 mod to load before another mod. So for example, I have ALYS and Foliage Only. The Foliage Only manifest.json lists ALYS as a dependency. This ensures ALYS loads before Foliage Only. Because the last one to load "wins", Foliage Only overwrites ALYS.
you can also force orders by adding dependencys which is the 'right' way, but sticking z in front of things is the easy way for user to do it
Sticking a z in the folder name is also not 100% reliable

unless the mod you're try to make 'win' gets loaded by something else's dependancy alphabet generally works, atleast on windows, but yeah dependances are the 'right' way

I've had issues with the z way, so I go with dependencies lol that method works, and the only issues then are with circular references, but SMAPI is quick to point it out

So you have mod A and C, but you want A to "win." you'd add a dependency in the mod A manifest.json for mod C. This ensures mod C loads before mod A, and then mod A wins

Both Android SMAPI ports are currently broken. ZaneYork is aware of the issue. There is no ETA for a fix. A large portion of the graphics code got abruptly changed which caused the port to break.

I don't think the mod author of SVE keeps older copies of SVE up, but if you're using an older version of SMAPI, you'd probably also need an older version of SVE

I have a quick question about a config file that's a little different than other ones I've had to config. I'm just not sure where in the brackets the values should go. For the theme color I guessed where "white" should go. I'm also guessing ConfigSchema needs "Enabled" ? Is that correct or does it go somewhere else. I'm actually not even sure this is the right file, the nexus page says there should be a config file but there isnt :C

yep, that's been around for ages. the mod author made an unofficial update several months ago they shared with me that fixed it but they never released it and it doesn't work with the new content patcher tokens anymore ๐ฆ
To answer your question @royal arrow I used the installer from the latest update, then attempted the manual download. Every time it would look like SMAPI was installed correctly, but upon loading it up, it would say I had 3.6 instead of 3.8.1, which is absolutely what I have downloaded.

Hi, the answer to 1 is yes it is possible to corrupt your save game. So it's good to back up, and 2. it is safe if you stick to safe sources of mods, like nexus and smapi.io

Sammy, the biggest issues you might see are from custom items added using Json Assets (JA). Those have specific uninstall instructions
beyond that, almost any issue is fixable
also, if you start with mods that only require content patcher - i'm pretty sure they are totally safe

ok so technically you could mod the Switch but 1) it'd require jailbreaking it and 2) you could only use XNB mods, which directly replace game files. XNB mods are not recommended because they're harder to troubleshoot issues for and are difficult to uninstall (if you don't remember to make backups of original files)

SVE does a lot. Can you elaborate what you mean by "like" SVE? My assumption would be you mean "adds new areas" hehe, and there are certainly tons of mods that add new areas
I also realized that the color bars for Eye Color, Hair Color, and Pants color use HSV. The only weird thing about that though is that Hue (the first/top bar) is supposed to range from 0 - 360 yet SDV only allows 0 - 100 ๐ค
Like an expansion with new NPCs, events, shops, locations and such.

I wouldn't be sure unfortunately. I know the CF thing from personal experience, but I haven't had either the museum or construction menus glitch out because of CF. I would recommend looking at your SMAPI console in the moment that happens and see what sort of error it shoots out. It's possible to figure out what might be wrong/what mod might be at cause by giving it a look

Okay so shot a glance at your log and it seems the only error I can make out is the aforementioned SMAPI closing the shop menus to avoid game crashes because of CF. I am not entirely sure if that's causing the hecked up menus as well though. For the time being, I'd recommend doing a sweep of your mods and updating what needs be updated and see if it persists
Specially Spacecore and FTM, as those are big building blocks your mods heavily rely on

What is the right way for updating a mod? replace or delete the oldest one?
Personally, I delete the old folder and install a fresh one
Deleting is always fine but will remove config files if you don't back them up. Replace is usually fine unless the author says otherwise but can cause problems if you don't follow instructions when given them.
if the mod author isn't like "HEY LISTEN SERIOUSLY, DELETE THE OLD FOLDER FIRST" (looking at all PPJA mods), you're fine to overwrite instead of deleting the old and installing the new

Pearl, you may have to do the painstaking "remove half your mods, see if that fixes the issue, and if not, keep removing mods until the issue is gone" to narrow down which one is causing the issue
bruh how do people with like 200 mods update their mods? surely that takes like hours? also why is it recommended to not replace files in mod folder?
Well I downloaded artisan valley with all the latest required mods and some machines don't seem to work such as the dryer, the alembic and grinder don't have animations. I read through the comments on nexusmods and they said it might be because of the producer framework hasn't been updated yet. Is that the issue?

When you install SMAPI, it tells you what text to copy into Steam launch options. If you already installed SMAPI, you can reinstall it no problem to get the text

I haven't tested it but it uses selective replacement via coordinates so it's probably fine.
personal anvil is updated and still working--the new vanilla item ||geode crusher|| does a similar thing, but ||it takes coal and isn't able to break artifact troves or golden coconuts||

Looks like you just need to get the CP version and not the XNB version. There are two files on the Nexus page.

I have been using galaxy boots and since the 1.5 update the mod broke and i cannot move them because they are invalid content so I cant put new boots on. my legs are missing now. How do I fix this

Hey all! Got a bug of three items being stuck in a chest and un-highlight-able. Smapi lights up in red when I try. Here's a screenshot of the items and the SMAPI log!

CWF is what you need in order to use mods that give you custom walls and floors! Look through the required mods list to see some options. Though also note that CWF is, and seems to always be, a bit glitchy and you can only place so many wall papers in-game on a wall before it stops changing. You'll then need to exit out and back in to be able to change the wallpapers again.

im not sure either i was just testing things cause the 1.5 update or working list seemed wrong about some things.
not all mods needed updates for 1.5 so shop anywhere may still work ok
It looked like it (CWF) got an update, at least the files did, on Dec 22nd. I actually just downloaded it today too lol.
If it's fully working though not sure, like I said it's still glitchy it seems!
I have a fix for this that I made for jen's greenhouse (which also has a door), but it will take me a minute to update that one to use it.

When the 1.5 update came the greenhouse still worked partly. I couldn't get up to the 2nd greenhouse floor anymore, but at least I could get to some of my crops on the first floor
CWF is, at the moment, pretty glitchy

Yeah they want tilesheets to change in an area that doesn't normally, and sometimes to change actual tiles and not just their textures, it just feels so wrong

Stardew Valley Expanded has a very specific installation process, so make sure you followed that and check to see what mods are not compatible!

The SMAPI log is the error log and mod log basically, that page has instructions on how to upload it then link it in here so others can see.
I have Vibrant Pastoral Recolor its pretty nice looking and doesn't take much away from the vanilla game

We believe it might have something to do with an item in his inventory (a seashell sconce??) but I can't figure out his log myself if I could get a hand 
OH also mouse, I fixed the greenhouse warp issue (it was SVE and it fixed with the update)

Yeah, I tried to track it down later and it turned out SVE had a SMAPI component that was changing the IF2R greenhouse warp. Was driving me crazy but Flash had already fixed it for next day.

Slum solution is NoClip + Destroyable Bushes. Reset Terrain Features is not open source so we're waiting for the official update (its coming)

Is there a way to actually remove the invalid content vs just making it invisible and making the game crash

This bush is manually removed by the game when placing the board, so I can see any reset mod causing this unless it takes the board into account specifically. (Or unless the game also changed the paths tile... which would only help mods.)
I believe if you just remove the mod, it automatically should remove residual content
otherwise you might have to go edit your save file
