Then that mod has errors and should be reported to the author. I can't say for sure that keeping it actively enabled won't continue to cause these errors, but I suspect that it will.

PLEASE HELP ME this is a bit of a long tale, but I promise you all the details I am about to list before are relevant
I am at the end of year 1 of a playthrough, and I’d rather not have to re-do it all now. When I started my save I picked the opossum pet from this mod. https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/22165?tab=posts
By fall I started wondering; why haven’t I gotten my pet yet? So, I checked when you’re supposed to get it, and apparently it is during spring year 1. Uh-oh. First thing I tried was to change my pet type at the shrine of illusions at the wizard’s tower. To my dismay, the option to change my pet did not show up. Next, I tried doing the same with the stardew save editor mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/127
I changed my pet type from blank to 1 out of 4. Once again, nothing changed.
So, I decided my best shot was to go to the save file itself and change things there. I made a backup of it, just in case. Then I changed the text detailing my chosen pet from opossum to cat.
I opened my game and I got a dog… that meows? It was bugging like crazy, so I went back and changed it to dog instead. Hurray! I had a dog that barks, as it should.
But then I noticed my dog would just… stay in one spot… and not move. I checked my SMAPI log, and OH BOY, lots and lots of red.

I don't really nderstand how a missing map that i'm not using would be causing crashes only when placing textures on sprinklers. Are those parts connected somehow? It works as long as I don't use AT on sprinklers

Modded: SMAPI creates backups of your save files as dated zips stored in the save-backups folder inside your Stardew Valley folder (as long as you didn’t delete the Save Backup mod). Named as the date they were generated, they can be used to roll back a save beyond just the previous day, which could help escape especially persistent save corruption at the cost of in-game progress. Download the zip and follow steps 3 and 4 in this guide.

Heyoo, I wanted to add Stardew Valley Expanded into an already active save. Anyone know if there are any smapi commands I can use to reset the terrain like the trees, bushes, etc in areas outside of the farm?
I'm going to go back to an even older backup of the save so make sure it isn't my doing

Reset Terrain Features (https://smapi.io/mods/#Reset_Terrain_Features) is a mod that lets you reset, clear, or generate everything that spawns on a map using an in-game menu. That's especially useful when changing maps mid-save, as the debris will otherwise use the old layout (causing things like trees in the water or bushes blocking exits).

Inside the folder with the day of the last time you played, (which is april 12th), take the folder with the same name as your farm, and copy it to the stardew valley save folder.

i don't recommend editing your save file for this. if it's your first pet, you can type debug cmenu in your SMAPI console to open the character window and change your pet

It's possible, yes. Have you tried removing that mod?
Also, if it only contains a content.json and a readme, then it's not a "mod" in the sense that by itself it can't do anything. It would need a manifest.json to be a "mod."

Let me see if I can parse out what the intent is.
I believe that the intent is you need to go into the VPR mod folder and replace the content.json there with the one from the [CP] 00Vibrant Pastoral Recolor Intl folder.

Yes I did try to remove the Buildable Greenhouse mod and the red text was still there (and the interior being vanilla coloured)

You can remove the [CP] 00Vibrant Pastoral Recolor folder from your mods folder after you've tried that. Removing the folder will get rid of that error.
Oh, what I did was transfer and replace the content.json file from the "Intl" folder to the "00VPR" folder and deleted the former instead. Not sure if that's what I should've done but the greenhouse interior is fixed now!
(As well as the red error from SMAPI gone)
I got another 'build another greenhouse' mod... hopefully that won't break things any further 😅

I already updated the mods and tried again, didn't bother getting a new log but I could if that would help
Did you by chance install any mods that asked you to override the game's original assets in the Content folder?
Not that I know of. At least, not on this save. I have a much older save where I used several Content Patcher mods, but this save doesn't use it.
Content Patcher wouldn't require asset replacement.
This happens when we see people try to "replace" the game's original assets with a new one. Not a mod, but a direct image override, or xnb file
I didn't do anything like that recently, and I'm actually on a different machine than when I played the old save, so unless Steam would somehow preserve that then I don't think that couild be it.
Not a bad idea to reset your files just in case something went weird there
Looks like you're using Vortex, or have before, which can sometimes cause some some weird behaviors that may clear up on a manual reinstall of SMAPI or checking the integrity of your game files.
yes I have been using Vortex, but so far every single crash I've had has been from clothing changes. shirt in particular for some reason.

I didn't remove the mods. I'm running it right now, just launching it from Steam instead of using the shortcut that would launch it with mods loaded. It's running right now, and I've already taken every crash-inducing action I can think of. I can try again after removing the mods, if that's important.
Ah, interesting. Can you explain what you mean by the shortcut? Launching from Steam should produce the same result as if you double-clicked on the .exe, for example.
Vortex has a button to launch stardew with smapi. Running it via Steam results in no mods loaded.
It very well could be a residual file hanging out somewhere as a result of Vortex, then.
Okay. I'll see if I can figure out how to do all this without Vortex, since Vortex seems to somehow be the culprit.
I wonder, if you open StardewModdingAPI.exe directly, do the errors still show up?
So the only place that exe appears is in Vortex's appdata folder. I'll try but I don't know what that would change, since I imagine that's what Vortex uses. I assume it would normally be elsewhere but Vortex's weird staging stuff is what results in it being elsewhere?
Normally in a manual SMAPI install, it'd be in the same location as your Stardew Valley steam game folder
So you'd see Stardew Valley.exe and StardewModdingAPI.exe in the same folder

Okay, just to follow up from earlier, I ran the copy of StardewModdingAPI.exe that's in the same folder as the regular exe and finally got the point where it crashed. (had to wait for event to start, it's very groundhog day over here)
I need to do some other things for awhile, so I'll have to get back to this later. Going to try to be more systematic about it with a clean start etc, but that'll take awhile.
btw does this channel have a spoiler policy? I got in trouble for that earlier in another channel since it's the new content that's crashing the game.

Windows 11 should have a built-in extractor. If you double-click on the zip file, it should extract them.
Normally you would extract them to your downloads folder, and then move them to your Mods folder

Like should it just be my own steam account that im running it on? Because i would prefer to try to run it on some kind of server on an account that isnt my own
I also don't know much about stardew so idk if this would affect my players level or something since it looks like the host is some kind of bot thats always playing
Yes, it uses the host's steam account and a config to tell your character what to do when you are in 'server mode' and you have to turn off server mode to play yourself
So if i set up some kind of linux server or something running it how would it work?
Would my account just clock insane amounts of hours and stuff?
And if i logged in would i be taking over that host bot?
You'd clock a lot of hours, and I don't believe you'd be able to join the game a second time in the same account, so you would need to use F9 to toggle server mode off to play as the host bot yourself.
It does auto max the host bot's levels, so you would likely need to change that as well if you wanted to level up your skills normally
Would there be any clean ways of doing it so that i don't have to buy another copy of the game for the host account
I believe the mod is intended to function so that the host account is not a separate account, so I am not sure.
That may be a question better asked in #modded-stardew , or posed to the mod author on the NexusMods page.
Modded farmers is more likely to have folks who may have used it before present, if anywhere

I don't quite understand the second part of that question, but yes, you can change the level settings easily enough for the bot. It looks like most people just change the data JSON file to match their player levels before putting it back into server mode

does somebody know what mod is causing this issue? I have 233 mods, and most of them ive tried updating, but both Fairhaven Farm, and Aurora Vineyard have multiple textures overlapping. I just have no idea WHICH mod it is doing this
I dont think any other buildings are effected, Blue Moon Vineyard is fine, the Wizard tower is fine, Hat mouse shop is all good too, it seems to just be these two buildings
It doesn't effect gameplay that much, I can still enter and exit the buildings, It just bugs me a bit because they look so messed up

I have some newer mods ive added recently (had to make a new game due to RRRR mistake i made, but didnt want to have to really restart from the very beginning) so I got some mods to speed things up, but Im just not sure where the texture comes from

I'm sorry that didn't help. I'd start by removing old frameworks that are obsolete or straight up don't work correctly anymore, like pytk lite, SAAT, Shop Tile Framework and TMXL map toolkit. In the log it says clearly which packs belong to which framework, so you have a list there of which content packs you might have to search a replacement/update for (or do it yourself >_>)

yeah that will be it. the mod has been updated in 2021 the last time. in the posts of that mod there's a possible replacement mentioned including instructions
bumping is fully okay with the amount of time you leave in between - I'd advise you to do a short summary of the issue and copy paste that with your bumps, cause it's quite the hassle to have to jump back to the original issue at hand and this would allow helpers to jump on the topic more easily when they take a look at what's still unresolved in this channel.

I keep trying to install smapi on my steam deck, but when I try to run the Linux file in Konsole it keeps saying “line 4: internal/linux/SMAPI.Installer: No such file or directory”. What does this mean?
I’ve ran Stardew a couple times and then switched to desktop mode but I still can’t run the Linux file for smapi

Can stardrop scan your already installed mods? Or will you need to start from scratch with it
due to the massive changes in code, and many mods changing who updates them now, the purple update notifications only show you a fraction of what needs updating when first switching from 1.5.x mods to 1.6

you can always manually change stuff in your folders and it'll appear in stardrop, you just might have to refresh the mod list to accurately reflect changes made outside the manager, just like any file browser would need
I'm downloading stardop now.
stardrop also tells you if you're missing requirements for a mod which is also neat, and you can have different profiles for easy switching should you want to not use the same mods for all saves

Yeah I use Vortex for my Bethesda games
it's probably easier to do manual downloads then, you can download them all and then via "add mods" stardrop extracts the zip files into the right places, it's only marginally more work

I haven't played for a few months, and was trying to update mods and it was mostly working then everything got messed up.

The game had a pretty big update which also caused a ton of mods to be outdated or no longer needed or have been replaced by other mods
So when you use stardrop for downloading, will it delete the old mod folders and replace them with new ones like serveral mods require? I've always hated doing that because it would always revert my config files to default settings.
there's a setting in stardrop to keep profile specific configs which should keep them for you, so they get put it in unchanged afterwards

then you unzip the file, run the installer that has windows in it and when it asks you to install or uninstall, you hit the key for install just like the first time - it cleans up after itself for you

next step is updating what's obvious, so everything at the top that says to update, go to the pages and update those mods - they're all up to date. make sure to delete the old mods, and not just write into the folders as that can lead to errors
and it seems like you'll have to be diligent with the deleting, as some mods are double in your mods folder
And I thought getting Fallout highly modded in a stable state was tedious.
updating mods for stardew valley usually is not tedious, it's just that this update integrated a lot of frameworks into the game itself, making it easier for future modding

I agree usually modding Stardew is relatively easy even without a mod manager. I knew this update was going to change things a lot. Which is why I’ve procrastinated on even looking at the log file until today.

the new ones you'll want to download are Passerby Cemetery and A New Dream, and in the dependencies of those you'll find Clowncore, and I think it's bundled in there? if not, it's in Passerby Cemetery

Hey guys trying to install SMAPI on a brand new fresh stardew steam install, running the install on windows file closes immediately, or when opened as admin it shows 'the system cannot find the path specified" - cant find anything useful on this online, have tried re-installing stardew and re-downloading smapi
try running the installer.exe instead \internal\windows\SMAPI.Installer.exe

I’m currently having to use the Mac version of SMAPI and for some reason when I play two days in a row, everything gets super slow. Is this a known issue?
Oh I tried restarting and it’s still slow now so I dunno what’s causing it

I am not sure of that, if I do that on steam deck I get the "oops, you're not connected to steam" message, but could be different on other systems. Maybe someone else knows this better than me.
Mhmm, im on windows so i download mods - add them through stardrop - launch the SMAPI thorugh it which opens steam. without achivevements being disabled.
Ok I’ll try those things and get back to you. Also everything is still slow even after I’ve closed it but it seems to be triggered by running Stardew
Quitting steam entirely helped the slowness

Happens with me when I disconnect the charger.

I am also in a hotel so maybe the power supply is not great?

Can you try removing Better Chests and seeing if the issue still happens? It looks like it is patching the Carpenter's Shop (specifically when it's trying to let you use resources to build from a chest)
Are you by chance trying to propose / get married to anyone on the days when you are crashing on sleep? If so, try removing Custom Spouse Rooms until after you have proposed and saved the day

Sounds like you have a mod that's letting you build in those extra locations, which may or may not be the issue
The thing immediately before the error in the TRACE log is Hudson Valley Buildings, specifically the Coop paint mask, but the log doesn't show player actions, so it's hard to know exactly what the issue is
I might have to disable and enable certain to see what is causing this... sigh
time to troubleshoot i guess.
Start with Hudson Valley, and then you may need to do the half and half batch method, yeah
Remove half your mods + their dependencies, see if it's still broken, if so, it's in your remaining half. If it's not, it's in the half you removed first, so you can add half of THAT half back in and check again. Still annoying, but a bit quicker to narrow it down
i think i might know.... i just add kira mod and AT form recently and hudson I did see an error once before.
There were a few people complaining about the paint masks added by Hudson Valley Buildings causing issues, but they seemed mostly visual, so I can't be sure if it's related to this one.

You can also check your smapi console if the game is open. That's the black window that opens before the game
hm the error logs folder is empty
SVE will log directly to the console whether it is installed correctly. you will see either "everything looks okay" or a big pile of red text saying "hey it's not right"
If the location of the log is empty, then you may not have launched smapi correctly
A new log should be generated every time you open smapi
I think i might have found the culprit... at least select few mods pokemn ranch or AztecViper's Fish of Stardew or Special Power Utilities
going to add one at time to see if i see the red again, note: it happens late and early game
honestly my guess it happens between pokemon ranch or AztecViper's Fish of Stardew
Sooo, it Pokemon Ranch.. I just saw in their Nexus page, there is a bug with robin won't open the building menu.
and there is a little hot fix for it. Delete two line in the .JSON.

the issue doesnt happen until i click load, then it warns me that an exception occured while trying to access my main save
you will need to cause that to happen, then upload your log from that session, so we can see the error (it isn't in this log)

Figured it out nvm
You have Swords and Sorcery installed twice as well, one's located at Mods\NEA and COT for SDV 1.6-12369-1-10-0-1715576035\NEA & COT\ and the other's at Mods\Sword__Sorcery\Sword & Sorcery\. There are [SMAPI], [CC], and [CP] component folders that all need to be removed from one of those locations.
how do I find those
search for sword and delete all that belong to that mod, I'd say, they should all be named similarly
and then do the same for nea

Delete the NEA & COT folder and the Sword and Sorcery folder in your Stardew Valley Mods folder, the other folders for NEA are inside it, so those will be removed at the same time.
I just updated Data Layers and now when I press F2 it doesn't open the mod features anymore

and my plan was to be safe, so I recommended removing everything and then installing again anew to make sure there's no remnants in those folders

remove SAAT, and other than that I recommend opening generic mod config menu and checking the keybind tab in the upper left, it shows all keybinds. could be that the keybinds changed, then you have to adjust them to what you want to have again. if that doesn't help, do what Megan said and downgrade to the version before for now

There are two different Hudson valleys. My version of the Hudson valley buildings doesn't have paint masks so if someone had used paint masks before installing the mod, the original paint masks get overlaid and they just need to be cleared. The other version only adds paint masks for the farmhouse
I figured it wasn't likely to be Hudson Valley Buildings that was their issue, was just noting it was the thing immediately before it in the TRACE log (which tracks, since that mod changed the buildings, and would need to load when the carpenter menu is loaded). 🙂

Unfortunately there will always be the second tab open when playing as the console command tab is required for the mods to load. If you're trying to play vanilla minecraft then you would have to open the stardew.exe if you've changed your game's startup settings.

No they're counted as separate entities, to move the bushes you could use the 'Let's move it' mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/20943?tab=posts) however you would have to create a mod to move the warp location. You could ask #making-mods-general for any help

You could either keep a copy of the config file before deleting the mod or use the stardrop mod manager to remember it for you

Delete your entire mods folder and start from scratch, and follow the guide exactly
put your mods, like save cofig, antoher fishing mod etc
if you want to make it easier, try using Stardrop
