I don't know how to check if my launch options are empty. I'm new to Steam
No worries. So go to Stardew in your steam library. Where it says launch, look all the way to the right. There should be a cog/gear icon. Click that, then Properties.

I played Stardew earlier today without SMAPI and was horribly frustrated. It was working though. I've been playing on an iPad and can't make it through skull caverns and thought some mods would help but can't mod an iPad

Kinda. Find “Open With” and click the drop down arrow. Then select whatever your default is and scroll to the bottom of the list and select "Other...". This will open the Applications folder.
Inside utilities you’ll find terminal

So opening this .sh should launch the game.
It opened Terminal and then launched the game in Steam. I moved the SMAPI outside of the mod folder earlier like you asked. I don't know if that's what made it load or not. But the game that comes up is the regular game with no mod

Smapi’s “mod menu” is the smapi console. All your mods don’t change anything until you load into a save. But as for the error, could you see if it still happens when you launch through steam now?

Okay. So let me look into this a bit more. This is typically an issue I see with M1 macs. In that case, launching through tmp folder is somewhat unavoidable but i’m hoping for you it won’t be the case

So for modding stardew, if you do not have a mod’s “dependency” SMAPI will typically not load the mod in. Unless it specifically states the dependency is “optional” in the mod’s manifest.json
It’ll also say this on nexus by the way
in the dependencies drop down

More than happy to help, this kind of thing is truly so frustrating. I was actually just going to ask some volunteers more knowledgeable than I and ping you in here whenever they got back to me. Shouldn’t take longer than a day at max but it could be done in 30m haha 
In the meantime at least you can play by going through tmp. And a big tip for getting started in stardew modding: the official wiki has a modding section with guides and troubleshooting sections. if you’re ever having an issue it is the most comprehensive and up to date resource. don’t read the whole thing like i did

So, I am having an issue with my Starry Blue UI where it keeps making big text windows have this random red tinted bar over it. SMAPI produces no errors, and I have tried it with JUST the UI mod and it still remains there. I even tried just a vanilla game to see if it was a game issue and no red tint over the vanilla UI. I am hoping there is a solution, because it really bothers me, and it never used to do this before.

its really weird when 10 cows are doing push ups at the same time lol
yeah, animals have been doing weird shit like that since day 1, no mods needed. one time i went to build something and all my animals were in a line staring at me. not my farmer, me, through the screen. sometimes they clip into each other and attempt to meld into one being. its all normal
i just chalk it up to "theyre scheduleless automatons with not very good pathfinding or ai and since theyre such a small part of the overall game its not worth it to fix it"
as long as theyre still producing and not vanishing into the ether you're good

Question: Is the red tint there for all characters? Your screenshot with the red showed a SVE character before, and it's possible a portrait mod or even SVE could be impacting something there.
It is all characters, and it is there even with Starry Blue UI as the only other mod
I just installed a clean copy of both Starry Blue UI and Theme Manager and didn't get the red lines.
(wanted to make sure it wasn't an asset issue, because there have been a few of those)

Starry Blue UI lists it as a requirement currently, so it's worth adding if you don't to see if it somehow fixes it.
I actually had theme manager and that is when the red tint started, so I removed it because it didn't need theme manager before and it had worked

Because right now the sprite is the seasonal SVE wizard sprite
That mod hasn't been updated since 2022, so it doesn't use the new Appearances system from 1.6. Which means the vanilla game overrides it. You'd need to edit the mod to overwrite NPC appearance properties, which means your question might be easier answered in #making-mods-general

Ohhhh, DialogueBoxGreen and TextBox aren't even applying the patches. Do you have a config option somewhere that has to enable those?

yes, it's very odd that Starry isn't applying the patch, because the most recent update I downloaded doesn't HAVE a condition for that patch, it's always on.

Just to check and make sure it's not something silly we're overlooking: When you update Starry Blue UI, you removed the old mod folder and then put the updated one in, correct?

Because you're on the same version, so theoretically, the code should be the same unless there was an attempt to overwrite files.
I always remove old files and put in new ones

alright, to 100% confirm, open the content.json file (any text editor will do) inside the Starry Blue UI folder and look for this section. Does it say the same things there?
If it is identical, then the only thing left to try is resetting your base game files in case something went wonky there.

You're just going to verify the integrity of the game files in Steam
Please note on the off chance you've used any XNB mods that require dropping things directly into the game's Content folder, this will nuke them

Yes technically, but I manually replaced the portrait pngs with a younger wizard mod. Now I want to match the sprites because the younger wizard doesn't have a beard.
....okay, manually replacing them was the wrong move here, because the problem is just that your mods aren't loading in the right order for the effect you want.

When two mods edit the same dialogue or images, whichever edit is applied last "wins" and is the one you see in the game.
If the mods don't set edit priorities (which most don't), that order is mainly determined by the order the mods were loaded by SMAPI. You can change that mod load order to influence the edit order.

Yes. You have to follow the instructions in that link from the Governor post to add a false dependency to force a specific load order.
Maybe I'll try downloading the new one one more time and seeing what I can do

It's not recommended, because you'd have to redo it every time the mod you're replacing them in updates.
Better to change the load order to prevent future issues.

Yep, the tutorial is for adding a false dependency, which forces the mod you're editing (in this case, the one that has the assets you want to use) to load AFTER another mod (the seasonal SVE portrait mod that's currently loading last)
So you open the manifest file of the mod you want to "win" and set it to require the mod that you need to beat.
Wouldn't I have to do that again also when updating my mods?
Only when you update the younger wizard mod, and it's honestly much quicker to update that one line than migrate all the image assets and hope they line up.
You don't have to follow my suggestion, but it's the difference between adding a line of code in one mod when one mod updates versus moving images when EITHER of the two updates.

didnt see anything, everything coming up as no errors maybe someone else whos more savvy can see something wrong
i don't see anything obvious in it. best to try the profiler mod i linked. load a save and walk around for at least few in-game hours or something while the lag is happening and it might catch what is causing it

im not sure why it has a massive frame impact but it seems a system i have set up with automate and junimo chests got clogged
removed the items clogging it up and my frames went to normal
weird because it hasnt done that in the past when it clogs up

everything enclosed by double braces represents a token, the value of which is what you want to replace it with
if you replace only ModId, you set another token, which is not what you want, you want to set the value

Cindersap Forest is a large exterior region found in the southwest part of Stardew Valley. It has exits to the north into the Farm, to the east into Pelican Town, to the south into The Sewers, and to the northwest into the Secret Woods. Cindersap Forest is the only place where Spring Onions are found.
so since PPJA is depreciated i should remove all mods related and get something like cornucopia as a replacement? Cause i do like them extra trees

cool cause now that im looking at the file for both i realize that i do not have the will power to try and fix PPJA and just put it into the mod graveyard
so my mod doesn't change behavior, but it changes their sleeping sprites to make them lay down. unfortunately the game is pretty weird about how it uses these sprites throughout the day. I decided the weirdness was acceptable in order to have cute laying sprites

what do you mean by not working?
It's enabled in stardrop and not showing errors in the console as far as I can see, but I just see the default UI in-game and on the loading screen
I see earthy interface and Leo's interface recolours in there, are those the two you're speaking of?
No it was bogs UI that I deleted and disabled, I'm.. not sure why I have leos unless it was a requirement for bogs I forgot I installed

Anyone up for troubleshooting a fairly messy log? I recently got a comment on my Everlasting Flowers (https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/23833) reporting a problem that some of the artisan goods made from Cornucopia's flowers won't work and that apparently all processed ones turn into blue jazz after sleeping. There are a few errors in their log, but I can't really see anything that would do... that.

I'm not fully convinced it's your mod, if it were there's no reason for those to turn into Blue Jazz the next day

- Launch Stardew through Steam and see if the error persists. (If it does, try a fresh install of SMAPI: https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Installing_SMAPI_on_Mac)

Spacecore isn't doing anything but pointing out that a warp isn't there
which is a thing that needs to be fixed in the mods that make use of these warps, but it doesn't really impact the game

I downloaded iTerm2. My computer automatically downloaded "Install Command Line Developer Tools" as well. I made iTerm2 the default terminal. I ran Steam and opened SV that way. I got the same error. I uninstalled SMAPI and reinstalled it. Same problem. However, even though I made iTerm2 the default terminal, the errors still opened in Terminal. So I drug the SMAPI install over the iTerm2 app to force it to use iTerm2, but that still didn't work. Same error message.

The presence of the gear it adds to the title screen is not a method for checking whether mods are installed, only whether GMCM is installed.

I wondered about the warps, too ... but I found that in the game, some warp points only show up after certain events or if I first went to point X by foot. I thought it might be related to that. I guess it is related to the minecart mod I use.
For copying as path name, my preferred way is to do Finder>View>Show Path bar, then click on iTerm2.app, then right click the app's icon in the path bar at the bottom and copy as pathname.

Yesterday I set it up for that file to open with Terminal. When we did that, Steam did work and open SV. Today, the same thing happened. If I double-click on that "open-smapi-terminal.command" file, Steam will launch SV like it should.

Opening terminal at a folder is just an easier way for most to set the directory is all. You could do it manually via cd ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Stardew Valley/Contents/MacOS (afaik) but the wiki prefers to keep people out of terminal wherever possible.

If the same error then the only thing I have for you is to Update your OS from Ventura to Sonoma. The issue you're having is one with Apple just not providing a lot of workaround for security issues, but its possible this could be fixed in Sonoma. If you try, ping me with results. Beyond that, you can still launch through tmp and have steam be connected.

You can mod your multiplayer games, but to avoid any hiccups, all players' mod lists need to match. If players have too many mismatched mods, you will experience bugs in your game - even if the mods were working fine earlier, there is no guarantee that they will stay that way, and strange things may start occurring.
There are a few exceptions to this - cosmetic mods usually work fine with no glitches, and some C# mods work as well. The main mod page often includes information on whether or not they work in multiplayer. However, in general, your mod lists should match exactly.

Try navigating to your saves folder, delete the save game info file and the file with your farm name, then rename the ones that have _old at the end to get rid of that bit. This will set you back a day but it should still be a good save

Have you tried running the game with just the default mods that come with smapi, save backup and console commands?
Also, have you checked if your graphics drivers are up to date? That sometimes causes issues

Vanilla: Reverting to a previous save file is the safest way to restore access to a corrupted save. However, this comes at the cost of one in-game day’s progress.
Modded: SMAPI creates backups of your save files as dated zips stored in the save-backups folder inside your Stardew Valley folder (as long as you didn’t delete the Save Backup mod). Named as the date they were generated, they can be used to roll back a save beyond just the previous day, which could help escape especially persistent save corruption at the cost of in-game progress. I'm seeing a galaxy auth connection failure error in your log. I'm not sure its connected to your issue but we should rule it out first. Would you mind answering a few of these questions?
- Was Steam open in the background on launch?
- Is Steam updated? (try forcing update) If it is, then
- Does the account you play on own the game? (i.e. not a shared library)
- Are you using a vpn?
- Are steams servers down or under maintenance in your region? (check at steamstat.us)
Yeah, you just need reset terrain features. Bushes are semi-hardcoded and changing maps that have them can cause stuff like this

I was wondering if someone could answer a couple questions for me. 🙂 SMAPI on android currently uses the 1.5.6.39 build, however on Nexus it's a bit difficult to tell which game version older mod builds are built for. The SMAPI website says "Use the latest version", but a lot of the latest mod builds are for 1.6+. Will there be any conflicts if I just download the latest version despite them being built for a newer build of the game?

So that is a copy of your save-backup folder. Could you press Windows + R and paste this in exactly: %appdata%\StardewValley\Saves and then take a screenshot?

I have a reoccurring issue where smapi wont load the game, after a while it'll magically fix itself, and then the problem will happen again. Smapi loads fine, behaving how it normally does but the game window is a black screen and if I click it, it goes white and gives the "stardew modding API is not responding. Close or wait for it to respond" message. I've tried reinstalling smapi, restarting my PC, and trying to launch the game through smapi with no mods.

Android SMAPI does not currently work for versions of SDV past 1.5.6.39. We do not know if or when it will be made compatible. It is not possible to downgrade to .39 through legal means so do not ask how to do this.
Mod support for 1.5 on Android is still experimental, so many mods are broken or buggy. That's often something SMAPI needs to fix, and we may not be able to provide a solution.

(PC) Having an issue with automate specifically. In year 5 and all of a sudden, every automate tick makes my game stutter. i figured out it was automate specifically cause changing the automate interval, changed the stutter point to the exact same as the automate interval. unsure on why its doing this all of a sudden cause i haven't changed the files or anything since starting the farm

And what did you change the interval to?
idk exact counts. but i went from 60 to 120, and the stutter changed to double the amount of time before a stutter. Then i changed it to the highest number, and it only stuttered once in a fair bit. then back down to 60, and it was once every second. so it seems to be stuttering on every check
I'd recommend keeping the interval above 120 - I keep mine at 150. Otherwise it will stutter at each tick.
If you are super curious, you can input automate summary into the SMAPI console to get more info.
Do you also happen to have Deluxe Grabber Redux?
yeah i have it to 240 so that it's at least somewhat less noticable. but was wondering why it went from year 5 perfectly fine to all of a sudden change.

year 5 is a lot of data in a save file.
The longer you play, the more things the game has to check. Flags for mail received, achievements, friendship levels, etc.
And ok, so Deluxe Grabber isn't a secondary issue, so that's good.

Actually, iirc, there might have been issues with Fishing Info Overlays.
there is another update @ruby leaf 1.28.7
But also, Custom Music and SAAT are resource intensive, so they contribute to lag in game.
so another update after what mine is, thats before 1.6
im having 0 lag. it's weirdly just the stutter.
it might fix that issue!

guys, we need a little help with the quest "ignorance and Bliss", we go to the greenhouse after midnight but the quest dosen't trigger, have anyone else had this problem?
Just ui info suite plus the small one console commands and save backup I tried without ui info suite but that wasn’t the issue
Is this the Ridgeside quest? That's a known bug that'd be fixed in an upcoming update.
I had an issue in multiplayer with long intervals of lag. I assumed it was my connection till I checked my task manager and saw that a windows sound operation was taking up massive amounts of cpu only while playing SDV.
After googling it a solution was to delete my speaker drivers and let them reinstall themselves. That seems to have fixed the issue.
Just gonna leave this here incase someone has a similar problem in the future.

i'd really highly suggest updating, there's just so many errors
and when you update your mods, make sure you are deletign and replacing, not overwriting.

- Is Steam updated? (try forcing update) If it is, then
- Does the account you play on own the game? (i.e. not a shared library)

- Are steams servers down or under maintenance in your region? (check at steamstat.us)

(Android) Sorry for chimeing in again. I'm just kind of confused and maybe I'm doing something wrong. I checked DSV's website, and their Nexus page, and it claims v4 is compatible with Mobile, but it errors out with a Threaded Failed and that system.io.ioexception: permission denied error again. Every other mod I have installed works except for this one.

- I redownloaded Stardrop
- I open it, and I get the error message "Unable to locate StardewModdingAPI.exe"
- There isn't an exe because I'm on a Mac
- Stardrop wants me to locate the SMAPI path. I went to the MacOS folder and copied it from the path bar and pasted it in
- Then I get the error "The given file isn't StardewModdingAPI.dll
- So I went to that exact file and copied the path from the path bar
- I get the error "The given Stardrop installed mods folder path doesn't exist"

v4 is the older version. It's possible there is an archived version that works but it's just confusing when the mod page says anything before v5 works on mobile.

Hello, I am having an interesting error with running NPC Aspen with my suit of mods. I've Gone through and removed the the mods that throw warnings/errors due to personal modding and updated everything as best I can. mostly this error slows down my save load up time to over ten minutes. Sorry, I stepped away for a second. Try running the smapi installer again. Then grab a fresh log. But before you do I might have you try out the “Profiler” mod on nexus. But i’m not sure if it logs launching times, so ping me once you’ve reinstalled smapi.
on your actual save it can potentially make things want to go commit error and fluff up a mess.
SMAPI doesnt ask for any permissions, which in theory could be an issue

To be brutally honest, it took a lot longer for me to figure it out than it should’ve given that I fixed the exact same issue a month ago in here. But it is what it is.

There's apparently an archived version of Cute Seasonal Characters. I'm going to try that instead. All I really wanted was more outfits, don't necessarily need the diversity (as much as I appreciate it)
