Your Mods folder should be in your game folder after you install SMAPI. See here for more information on finding it: https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Player_Guide/Getting_Started#Find_your_game_folder
If you use Steam, you can also right click on the game name > Manage > Browse Local Files.

theres currently a weird bug where SMAPI suggests updating to alpha versions of mods that are just there in preparation for stardew 1.6

So, GMCM along with several other framework mods will ask you to update them, don't do it. Those updates are alphas for 1.6 and are mostly for just testing code and troubleshooting for the upcoming 1.6 release.

hello! so i have this retexture mods for items, crops, fish, minerals, etc. (uses content patcher)
at first they work just fine and no errors, but when i install the rest of my other mods, it suddenly won't work in-game even though there are no errors in smapi, and all other mods also work just fine.
i'm thinking there may be conflicts with other mods that uses cp/json/at or something but i'm still yet to know which one. does anyone know a faster way to find out or how to fix this?

Does anyone else have the problem with alternate textures where the textures you choose aren't the textures it displays? I have multiple alt texture mods and sometimes I find that they seem to overlap or something

Texture mods usually don't affect mp play, but I've seen weirder things.
AT can have some mild issues with some items in multiplayer if you're the farmhand, at least buildings dont update last time i played
But i haven't played mp with the most recent AT so i can't say for sure

Do you want to play the vanilla game after having installed SMAPI? Keep in mind that you cannot play vanilla on a previously modded save. Please use separate saves for playing vanilla vs modded Stardew! That said, there are a few ways this can be achieved:

If playing the game through Steam or GOG on a Windows device, clear your launch options, then select play from your game client. See the !launchoptions command for more info.

Go into your game folder and launch StardewValley.exe. See the !findmodsfolder command for more info.

Change the name of your Mods folder to anything other than Mods. Then launch the game as you normally would, this will make SMAPI launch but without any mods being loaded by it.

Hello! Me and my friends have been having an issue where one of them cannot join our multiplayer world. His game will say connecting for a few minutes then just say connection failed and not let him join the farm at all. It allows other people join its just him that can't connect. We've checked and we're pretty sure its not a network issue, were not sure what to do. Has anybody else had this issue and have any idea on how to fix it?

If players have too many mismatched mods, you will experience bugs in your game - even if the mods were working fine earlier, there is no guarantee that they will stay that way, and strange things may start occurring. There are a few exceptions to this - cosmetic mods usually work fine with no glitches, and some C# mods work as well. Mods often include information on whether or not they work in multiplayer in their descriptions. However, in general, your mod lists should match exactly.

If you're all using Steam, then you can look into using the SteamDew mod, which uses a lot of techniques that will be added in the 1.6 Update.

Ok, this is more of a round-about solution, but if you change each individual seed's config file from their vendoe to pierre, it will appear in pierre's shop
though that would imply that every other villager who sells stuff can't generate the modded seeds
if you type help, does it list the command under "added by Fashion Sense"?

i would try moving the SMAPI 3.18.6-whatever folder out of your mods folder to somewhere else

hey all, i'm trying to use https://cafe.naver.com/starvall/391612 npc sprites, but morris, wizard and marlon do not work. the other npcs (pam, robin) work. i have seasonal character (+sve ver) installed, but have changed config data for all npcs included in the naver sprite mod, to false. i tried deleting their sprites from the files, and now their in-game sprites are vanilla sprites.
not sure why the naver sprites do not work specifically for them. config data by default are all true

do you mean load the game? i've loaded my current save multiple times, with/without seasonal char, or sprite mod.
yes. i think the most helpful thing to do would be to load in to your save where the sprites are not working, then type this in your SMAPI console:
patch summary
then upload a new log. that will contain a list of what is being actively patched by CP
(you are using the CP version of that naver mod, right?)

nothing to be sorry about, I don't think the patch summary would help much though (my guess, the mod is not SVE compatible)
if you look inside the naver mod, how many portraits (tiles) do morris, wizard and marlon have?
if it's 4, 2 and 1 in that order the mod may actually work, but you won't see the portraits that often (in SVE these characters have 10, 7 and 3 portraits respectively)

Hello everyone, I've recently started playing SDV again with my niece. She loves the game and has been wanting mods. I recently downloaded Ridgeside Village with SVE together and it's causing a lot of "loading in" lag. Is there anyway to fix this? I would love to play them together if possible.
oh, no worries. i just hate asking people to do more work to get help. i think semisu is right though, this is probably not really compatible with SVE
You can try using either Spritemaster (its visual changes can be turned off) or Fast Loads. Which one's better varies from person to person and PC to PC.
if you're already using one or the other, then that's as much as you can do and the only thing left is to have patience
I've tried Spritemaster but couldn't get over the blurry visuals. I'll try fast loads and see if that does any better.
If it still helped, you could also turn its visual changes off. 
I can personally do it ok on my pc, but my poor nieces laptop struggles with it sometimes haha
im not sure i understand. portraits and sprites are different, right? because its the sprites which do not show up. but yeah, i thought it may not be sve compatible. though is there another way to make it work?

Generic Mod Config Menu (or GMCM https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/5098) adds the option to edit some, but not all, mod configs from either the title screen or the options page in a save. It also has a special screen to edit keybinds for all mods with GMCM integration.
The presence of the gear it adds to the title screen is not a method for checking whether mods are installed, only whether GMCM is installed.
alternatively, wait until march 16 19, according to the author of Fast Loads the mod should become obsolete in 1.6

Does just swapping the portraits in the SDV folder work for high res portraits? the mod ive been trying to use its always like zoomed in, and the work arounds ive found are only for the 1.6 alphas :/

When two mods both edit dialogue or images, whichever mod loads last "wins" and is the one you see in the game. i am remembering now that SVE has two marlons, so there may not be a good fix to use the naver marlon sprites if there aren't enough of them
(even if there are, you'll probably need to edit the mod to load MarlonFay as well as Marlon, but i'm not hopeful)
how about the wizard? i'm more bothered by him since victy's portrait and vanila/sve sprite look drastically different in looks and age.
i don't think there's a clone wizard like there are for marlon and gunther, but i don't know SVE that well

at least that much, if you don't want him to shift to his old appearance during those moments you have to at least replace them with any existing ones
and there's probably not much "coding" involved, I assume you're looking at some simple search&replace for "Action": "Load" with "Action": "EditImage"

So after going into the config and setting the first time setup to false, I tried to open "Limit Break Setting" however all I get is a weird noise, after a few seconds all music and noise stops completely. The game freezes and then eventually it shuts itself down. I tried other settings and they opened fine though I haven't tried opening them all just yet.

I’ve been trying to figure out how to get my crab pots to catch something other than garbage, but can’t figure out what is causing it. I haven’t caught anything other than garbage 100% of the time with 15 crab pots on farm, in town and at the beach. Has anyone had this happen? If so how did you fix it/ what mods caused it? Thanks

if memory serves, P is the keypress to change portrait sets when using Portraiture, and HD Portraits is a separate mod that does high-resolution portraits in a different way

Hello, I am encountering issues installing SMAPI. This is on a fresh install on GOG, being run to make sure the install is working (Ver. 1.5.6 Hotfix #3), and I have downloaded SMAPI directly from SMAPI.io (Ver. 13.18.6). I have already tried a few searches online, on the SMAPI subreddit, and on the wiki page for modding. I have tried I've tried multiple reinstalls for both the game and SMAPI, manual installs, Nexus installs, SMAPI installer to no avail. I've checked for any sort of log but none is generated when I follow the steps to check for one. I get the following from the console for SMAPI:

Heyo, can i get some help with my save? 
I have a single save set for Day 20 (Summer) but when i open it, i am on Day 1 (Summer too)
I already past through Day 1, so i am unsure as to why the save is 19 days before, it was working just fine before i put in only 2 mods (A Medieval building one, and a recolour one.)
Should i upload my Log somewhere? Or is it a common easy-fix error?
I tried using one of my backup saves as well, but still, it is on Day 1

I can only think of a few things that are entirely predicated on seeing the log and what else is inside the mods folder-because the recolors certainly aren't the issue.
Also Grampleton is just an optional add-on for SVE

(I think it's worth noting that the day is resetting to Day 1, because there is only 28 days in a Stardew season)
(Also worth noting that SaveGameInfo -- as opposed to the actual save Farmname_GameID -- is where all the data for the load menu comes from, so it's completely possible for the day displayed on the menu to be different from what's in the actual save)

Hello. I can see smapi throwing an erorr (or catching it) when trying to load my save and it crashes. Is there a location for the stacktrace errors that smapi had in console. They arent in the ErroLogs folder

(Save Anywhere is at the point where the mod author that made it advises against the use of it, from what I've been told.
I do know that it is very broken in general and when toying with it I ended up breaking a test save and barely finagling out of it.)

I’m not sure, it is the _old file so i don’t think i can check it…unless there’s a way to do it, but i dont really know how 
_old files are the same files with an _old extension, if you remove it it will be loaded (words, what is their meaning)
So i just remove the one file with the day 1 (not _old)

_old saves should specifically be the day before the current save too, which is what is pretty odd about this whole thing

i dont think its any different than normal multiplayer apart from the fact everyone needs the mods\
They should end up being the same name as the other two files currently in the folder, so make sure to move those out first
basically rename the _old versions to be the same as the new one

(I honestly wish I could tell you why THAT specifically is an issue, but sometimes the drivers don't recognize each other. It's recommended to always have an audio output for Modded Stardew even if you mute it.

Okay so I finally figured out modding on Android. I go to download the item spawner mod and it doesn't seem to work? Like it doesn't load in at all.

Android SMAPI does not currently work for versions of SDV past 1.5.6.39. We do not know if or when it will be made compatible. It is not possible to downgrade to .39 through legal means so do not ask how to do this.
Mod support for 1.5 on Android is still experimental, so many mods are broken or buggy. That's often something SMAPI needs to fix, and we may not be able to provide a solution.

Well, aside from telling you to remove save anywhere redux. It loaded in fine and there's nothing in the log dictating otherwise.)
Any time I see a log end with "building map to resolve normal objects" I have to assume they're thinking the game is crashing when they need to just wait
Since the issue began here, I'm guessing there was initially an issue with Save Anywhere, and now it might just not be loading directly into the game for a decent amount of time

Hey all. Was using Stardew modded with SMAPI before on my Windows 10 PC. Had to wipe all apps off my drives because of space issues. Can't seem to get SMAPI working again.
I start the program (StardewMOddingAPI), the screen flashes briefly, and then nothing. DOoesn't show as working in the task manager.
Any ideas?

right-click the game in your library and select Properties. somewhere in there is a way to see/change what branch you're using

So I got this mod called the Portrait anime mod ohodavi but it comes in a RAR file instead of a zip folder, do I just put it into my mods folder like any other mod?

I'm torn here, then. On the one hand, this is where I'd normally get Pathos because if SMAPI itself won't even open, then there's something very wrong going on
On the other hand, Pathos is self described as overloaded trying to get stuff ready for SDV 1.6

yes, but mod authors have been preparing updates in advance. whether and when any given mod will be updated is not really knowable in general; it will vary from mod to mod

We do not know of a specific timeline for any update to any mod, expansion or otherwise, but rest assured mod authors have been given access to a build of 1.6 without content changes with which to make updates to help mod updates be ready for release day. If a mod you use is not ready for release day, please do not harass the mod author to update - mod authors are people who may have other time commitments and cannot immediately update their mods.
If you have questions as to whether a particular mod will be ready for release day, it is best to ask the mod author themselves. Please keep in mind a lack of response does not necessarily mean the mod is being abandoned - the mod author may not have time to respond or is hard at work behind the scenes. Most major mods will likely have an update prepared for 1.6 on or near release.

Hello! I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I'm new to mods and recently started a new save with Stardew Expanded. I started with Immersive Farm 2, but got overwhelemed 😂 , and since I'm only at the end of spring, I restarted my game and deleted the immersive farm 2 folder to replace it with Grandpa's farm.
For some reason, everytime I start, I'm stuck with immersive farm 2. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

As to the visual bugs... the first is probably due to it using its own tilesheet, so it might be fixed by false dependency but if not then you'd have to ask the mod author

It looks like Content Patcher version 1.30.4 doesn't like how Date Night codes quite a few things. My understanding of Android modding is fairly slim, but I thought that the best version of CP for Android was 1.29.3.

You can tell via the weather conditions patch
because it's saying "storm" is invalid but it expected "storm", it's how Android SMAPI parses things
The backdating of the Content Patcher may work, but it may simply be a problem with Android SMAPI itself.
I will check these then, and see if I can figure out which one! I’m leaning toward Defense Division because it’s a new mod for me, but we’ll see. I’ll check on the Schoolhouse mod too. Thank you!

Since you're on Mac, you'll likely have to reinstall Smapi, but afterwards, everything should be fine.

90% of portraits will tell you what to do or are just Content Patcher and go in the Mods folder, not the game folder.
do not put files in there. If a mod tells you to do so, run away, or look for a (CP) labeled equivalent.

Thankfully Smapi screamed out the root content folder was messed up, and the only way that happens is if you have a cracked copy or you used xnb.
You had a file path to Steam so it was clearly the latter.

Hey so uh. Anyone use Mushroom Rancher? Do you need the separate Mushroom Propagator mod to actually have the incubators to spawn the mushrooms? 
- Is the issue with fruits and veggies that the melon crops are not loading? (for both bonster's and ppja then just go into the file and rename one of the crops something slightly differently e.g. Bonster's watermelon crop and Bonster's watermelon seeds)
- Remove smapi installer from your mods folder (you can delete it after installing smapi),
- Reinstall Almanac and Moon misadventures
So I uninstalled and reinstalled Stardew, and EVERYTHING WORKS FINE NOW!

Hello, I'm trying to configure objects from one mod to work with machines from another mod. I have no clue what I'm doing and I don't want to ruin anything beyond repair so any help would be extremely appreciated. My plan is to copy + paste text from one file to another in the corresponding areas. This seems to be a common issue with niche solutions each time, but my game has been freezing at loading times (startup, sleeping, some cutscenes) and gives this error for what seems like all of the NPC characters:

Basically Stardrop is specifically ignoring that mod outright, and treating it as a hidden mod.

hey i recently downloaded the mobile phone mod that lets u call villagers yet i have absolutely no idea how to bring it up? in the description on nexus it says to use the end key or click on the small phone icon (set ShowPhoneIcon to true in the config) but i have absolutely no idea where that is on my macbook lmao, any help to bring up the phone would be appreciated :)
if your macbook has an End key, it's probably a Fn layer on one of your keys, so check those?
or maybe the mod has a config to change the keybinding

Hi! I was having an issue so I downloaded the new versions in the purple, but it’s giving me a new issue. I thought these were the new ones, but it can’t find the updated versions of Generic Mod Config Menu 1.12.0, JSON Assets 1.11.0, and SpaceCore 1.18.0. I could only find the sdvalpha versions.
I’m still looking for the newer versions, but if someone could do the direct link bc I don’t see it on nexusmod. it’s taking me to moddrop. It’s my first time on the website.
Okay, so the issue is the new versions ARE the ones giving you problems because you don't have 1.6 alpha.
Roll back by going to the most recent older files you were using.

What causes my mod folders to suddenly become empty? I was playing with my mods just fine a few days ago and now when I try to play, smapi fails to run most of them and says the same error message of "empty folder" 😔

No I download all of them through nexus and just manually load them into my mods folder

I am on Ubuntu, attempting to run SDV through Steam. I am running SMAPI 3.18.6 and SDV 1.5.6. I have SDV Extended and its dependencies installed, and no other mods. The game and SMAPI launch fine without any mods installed. With extended, SMAPI gets to this error and immediately exits with no log file available. Any ideas?

Without looking into libskiasharp history myself I would look into which version of skiasharp that is. If the game is for some reason not using the copy of libskiasharp packaged with the game I would look into if snap is somehow forcing the game to use a different one.
(That's what I get from the last line of the log, the fatal error. Someone is doing something funky with skia. Snap, which is quite opinionated on this, may be up for blame.)

SMAPI launches, and the game window opens but stays on white screen, and remains on not responding. I believe I've tried every step in the troubleshooting. I've basically reinstalled everything and even left the game with only smapi and content patcher and still won't work

If your resolution is messed up try deleting startup_preferences This can be found on Windows at %appdata% > Stardew Valley > it's in that folder, or C:\Users\Yourwindowsnamehere\AppData\Roaming\StardewValley or for Mac can be found at ~/.config/StardewValley To get here you'll want to go to your desktop, then in the menu bar select Go -> Go to Folder...

No, two screens is fine, my question was because sometimes the game tries to launch in an invalid position
And the position it was trying, according to your log, was only valid if it was a second screen
Hence the question.
(Deleting the startup preferences file usually fixes that.)
yeah I'm 99% sure this is the issue. I've had this issue with another game. I'll try to find the start up preferences in a bit

SMAPI 4.0.0-alpha is only for Stardew Valley 1.6-alpha. If you're using the normal version of the game, you still need SMAPI 3.18.6.

You have a few things going wrong here:
- you don't have custom spouse patio, install that
- the alternative portraits for toshinori appear to be incorrectly installed, read the mod description for the correct installation method
- you have two animal retextures trying to edit the pig, you'll have to pick your fav and yeet the other
- not sure what's going on with stop rug removal, tbh, so I'll leave that one for someone more knowledgeable.

I'm really struggling atm. I've just downloaded a new greenhouse mod and updated some other mods, extracted the files and put them i nthe folder that is in the "browse local files" thing on my steam Stardew Modding API. When I'm in game, the greenhouse is still the same as the old one. When I go to configure mods in game in settings, they are also all the old ones. How do I fix this?
you put them in the steamapps/common/Stardew Valley/Mods folder or just the steamapps/common/Stardew Valley folder?

steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\Mods has the old one mods. Is that the one im meant to have uploaded it in?

when updating mods, you're supposed to replace the old files with the new ones
ah i thought I could take a shortcut and add a new folder with all the mods
you can, but you need to change the names
and also make sure that the error handler mod is also in the new folder
error handler, save backup and console commands are all mods that smapi automatically includes
so you shouldn't delete them, error handler especially
if I replace the old smapi with the updated smapi, will that be okay?
