Given that vanilla runs smoothly it seems like the issue is external
Do you have anything that might automatically activate when a game is running? Razer Cortex, Medal.TV/clipping or recording software, etc?

Consistently 60 on vanilla, often 40 with some 33 dips on SMAPI

(Also, don't send us this if it is on the physical log, but if you see anything that looks like this on Smapi, it's most likely a streaming or recording software turning on that needs to be turned off. It doesn't show up in the log itself when active.)

(Yeah I grab error ss's sometimes just to make sure things are smooth, like the time I asked that person about if they made their own mod folder because someone had downloaded Smapi, moved the zip into SDV and then made their own Mods folder. This is the first time *in a month I've been genuinely stumped. I actually forgot it's February now.)
My inclination is to say that the issue is almost definitely external, either NVIDIA Control Panel or elsewhere
Even in the Medal.tv cases, most people can have that error spam without any performance issues (and with an RTX card I imagine they're not struggling with it)

How does the game run without vsync on?
Taking notes because I forgot this was an issue, despite having a 120hz monitor
(The good thing about a 120 Hz monitor is that for a 60 fps game, we're basically in sync with its interval)
(But at a 72 Hz or... 165??? Hz monitor, vsync could cause issues)

So maybe you actually have vsync enabled at the NVIDIA control panel level... When you run the game in windowed mode, without vsync on, do you notice screen tearing?

Looks into refresh rates and windows NVIDIA Dynamic Super Resolution is a thing that exists
DSR. Check if you have that, because that sounds like a potential culprit too.
(as an aside, these are really weird things to even worry about for stardew)

It sounds like CPU throttling, and the window resolution change sounds like DSR which resets refresh rate, which would royally mess with Stardew.
It could be something else entirely, but uhh, this is all I got and I've got other things to do (No offense! I learned quite a bit just looking at this and truly hope it works for you somehow.
I don't see DSR anywhere in the NVIDIA 3d settings
i'm still super confused that it doesn't get fixed by playing exclusive fullscreen, since that should give the process priority + direct blit from framebuffer to screen

There is potentially a thing where SMAPI does differ from the base game, and I'm trying to figure out what the root cause of that could be
The reason I swapped to ModDrop was because I wanted to make sure I didn't mess up when I manually installed but it made no difference. I haven't seen anyone have issues with SMAPI without having issues with base or heavy mods 😭
(In particular Chirps if you're still around, there was this issue where someone could only launch the Legacy version of the game, but with SMAPI, they could launch the regular one... but without SMAPI it just crashed on launch)

well generally doing it at the hardware level is good
tuning down fans, underclocking, etc, keeps temps lower & fans running slower
on a similar note, disabling Intel's boost mode helps with temps (and ultimately helps with throttling) for laptop gamers

i just wanted to for example chop my wood on the bottom of my farm and then move it automatically, when placed in the chest on the bottom of farm, to a chest on the north side of my farm to then turn it into charcoal (for example)
Ah. You don't need to move it to a chest elsewhere to make a machine elsewhere process it. Machines can process items from chests they aren't directly touching so long as there is a chain of other machines or path connectors connecting them
You either need to use a Junimo Chest or use the path connector feature for that.
There's an optional download on the Automate page for a config file that's already set up with two types of path connectors - the vanilla wood paths and crystal paths - enabled, but you can add other items to it if you want
cool. what conenctors are you using, asthetics wise?
Chests Anywhere also lets you set a chest's automation options, so you can still have a chest at either end, and the chest by the charcoal can be a "put items in this chest first" chest
personally i use the Wood Path one, but some people prefer Crystal Path, and some people prefer to add some other item as a connector
If you'd want to connect chests from one end of the farm to the other end of the farm, I suppose the most convenient and aesthetical connector would be whatever walkway your farm is already using.
If you attach a Junimo chest then each copy will put those machines into the same Automate network
1.6 adds the ability for modders to create new/unique Junimo chests which should work correctly with Automate. I have an upcoming mod which uses that.

Android SMAPI does not currently work for versions of SDV past 1.5.6.39. We do not know if or when it will be made compatible. It is not possible to downgrade to .39 through legal means so do not ask how to do this.
Mod support for 1.5 on Android is still experimental, so many mods are broken or buggy. That's often something SMAPI needs to fix, and we may not be able to provide a solution.
Because that's a very known bug on Android
(Only happens with SMAPI, too, hence why the command.)

That's a feature, but you can turn it off in the config
It's called resampling, and it's supposed to make pixel art look like line art
we are aware, but smapi and mobile modding is incredibly unstable. there is only one person working on it in his free time and he hasnt updated since july. we cant do anything to fix smapi, only inform others of how unstable it is. hopefully you can find a solution to your problem.

Generic Mod Config Menu (or GMCM https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/5098) adds the option to edit some, but not all, mod configs from either the title screen or the options page in a save. It also has a special screen to edit keybinds for all mods with GMCM integration.
The presence of the gear it adds to the title screen is not a method for checking whether mods are installed, only whether GMCM is installed.

FastLoads. but still you can use spritemaster without the graphical changes anyway

They do different things in different ways, but if it's only performance improvement you're after then it's probably worth trying them both out and finding which works better
Performance optimization is complicated because there's no tried and true way to address it for everyone. It just depends on what limitations you're running up against.
(Also, don't use both at the same time.)

This is my environment simulating what most people would be playing with
a DSV/SVE question: I have SVE, and DSV, because of SVE I don't have marigold enabled. However, smapi keeps yelling at me that marigold doesn't work because i don't have sprite in detail. Is there any way to get rid of this (like with config settings) other than downloading SID?

what new dialogue? chances are it was a conversation topic, which mod authors arent able to control when they show up

after you copy that line you go on steam, right click on stardew, then go on the bottom button that pops up (should be properties in english)
ayem is having you set up the steam startup command so that smapi loads when you start stardew through steam. all you have to do with the cjb cheat menu mod is unzip and drop into your mod folder which will be in your main stardew folder.
this window will open. paste the line we copied earlier into the highlighted text field
yeah, this is technically optional but it makes running the game thru steam easier

The zip is in your Mods folder. You need the unzipped version in your mods folder, because the game can't see zips.
So you have to take it out of the zip.

If the computer has not had SMAPI run on it, then it won't have a SMAPI log.

I somehow managed to install SMAPI now. By the grace of luck. But I can not for the life of me figure out how to add on the fishing modification to make fishing easy. Can someone tell me how to? I have downloaded it, but can not make it run with SMAPI. I do not know what to find as an error code. I am new to Stardew and have no big PC experience.

Thank you both, I actually managed to install the fishing modification and I made it work! I just did it in a different way than the video guide showed, but somehow it worked!

Android SMAPI does not currently work for versions of SDV past 1.5.6.39. We do not know if or when it will be made compatible. It is not possible to downgrade to .39 through legal means so do not ask how to do this.

im new here so if this isnt the place to ask let me know. but im having a problem with my smapi. i tried to update it after not playing for about 6 months. and then my game force closes upon reaching the title screen. my apiu launcher says my content patcher says my smapi is outdated and cannot load. but both are up to dated. and because content patcher wont load a dozen and a half of my other mods wont load. Im pretty sure the big problem im having hinges on smapi or CP but i cant figure it out

Hi, this is my first time trying to play modded SDV. I'm trying to get SDV expanded. I'm using ModDrop. I've downloaded all the mods and SMAPI and it won't actually open the game. When I run SMAPI it just thinks and thinks and if I click anywhere on my screen it goes black, then white, then pops up an error saying that SMAPI isn't responding and for me to close it or wait. I've tried waiting for around 15 minutes and it still doesn't do anything. Here's my SMAPI log: https://smapi.io/log/920418439f2a4200b191bd9c9aefbd25 If someone could help that would be great. Also, I know it says I should update those mods but I do have the updated version of those mods. take the png file you want to use, go to the "assets" folder of the Adopt and Skin mod, then go to "skins" and create a folder there named "Horse" and just drop or copy/paste your unicorn skin there and rename it "Horse_1"

Playing on a modded game, it wont save regardless of what i do, no errors other than ones saying which mods i have disabled (which is correct because i'm paying with separate mod profiles with seperate modpacks). Resetting will remove any xnb mods and should not hurt your save btw. It's the "verify integrity of files" thing on steam

The thing about Vortex is that due to its nature of randomly "misplacing" or moving files, we have a very hard time troubleshooting.
My best advice is to manually recreate your active mods folder for this save (not the ones showing as disabled) and try running SMAPI directly from the game folder. If the saves still aren't being recorded, hopefully we'll have a better idea why.

Not if everything is set up correctly. I'm not going to prevaricate; this won't be easy or a quick fix. There is a reason we don't recommend Vortex for SDV, for exactly these kinds of reasons.
- You need to delete/disable Vortex (however that works) and clean out your current mods folder.
- Redownload all your mods, one by one, directly from Nexus and place into a clean Mods folder.
- Reconfigure your Steam launch options to not launch Vortex.
If you wanted to install Stardrop, this would be a good time to do so.
Basically, Ghost, you need to start completely fresh, as though you've not modded the game before.

I didn't say "move files." I said clean out the mods folder. Moving files previously downloaded by Vortex merely just imports the same problems.
It's your prerogative to take our advice or ignore it.
im just asking for advice regarding the issue i have, ik me trying to do all that will create even more issues, please dont be mean about it i just struggle to understand and reasonably ive spent hours on this as most poeple do and it seems wasteful to just remove everything when theres probably a simple fix

Mod files downloaded via Vortex, if Vortex does its thing and borks everything, will remain borked even if you move them around. This is why we recommend manually re-downloading all the mods again.

Long story uhhh bare with me
So I wanted to transfer my PC save file with my laptop couple weeks back because I was going to be at a dentist’s office for 5 hours and wanted to play while I was waiting. I installed steam on my laptop and somehow, the game didn’t launch (it said the file stardew valley exe didn’t exist) and before I could do anything I had to leave. When I got home and booted my PC up my 30 hour save file was gone completely. I did have steam cloud synced but it was just gone. So, I wanted to start a new save file and install CBJ cheats to get back to where I was. Now that I’m back where I was, is it possible to remove the mod?

Your save file isn't on vortex. Vortex can launch the game with the mods you preset, but the save itself has nothing to do with Vortex
(Vortex works fine for most other games from what I hear - no firsthand experience - but for stardew it does not /;)

Your saves are stored in your computer files by Stardew itself. The game. It doesn't matter what you launch it with as long as it is that specific installation and you have the saves. What launching it from Steam, Vortex or the StardewModdingApi changes is what mods are loaded, or if any are.

CBJ Cheats doesn't add any new items, so it can be added and removed whenever in a save file with no extra steps for removing it.

Smapi isn't in the Mods folder, BTW. It made the Mods folder. Smapi-internal is in the Stardew Valley folder, which has the Mods folder in it.
(Curious on how exactly the thing happened is all. For Deatheater14, I'm just guessing it's Steam cloud sync mishap.)
Also, looking at the description of what you did, I think maybe Steam Cloud ate your save file? Since you had steam cloud synced, if it synced your laptop's lack of save file with the cloud instead of downloading the save then your save file would be gone

Steam Cloud syncs at game's start and end. So something like this usually happens when it doesn't sync at game's start for some reason (so the laptop doesn't get the save file from the cloud) but then syncs when the game closes (so the laptop tells the cloud to erase the save).

I have the pregnancy and birth events mod, and it asked me what we should name it if its a girl. i already have a girl, so i just put her name, assuming it was gonna ask for a boy name after. It didn't, so now i have 2 baby girls named Victoria. I removed the mod and went back in, but its still named Victoria. How do i fix this? I dont know if the game made the baby a boy named Victoria now or what. I also have free love, so im not sure if that has anything to do with this. Please please help.

The game saves progress when the in-game day ends, i.e., when the farmer goes to bed, collapses from exhaustion, or collapses at 2am. All progress during a day is lost if the player quits the game without ending the day. In multiplayer, the game saves after all players click through the prompts at end of day and wake up in the morning.

it thinks its out of date, but that's cause i added an update key wrong. i have the most recent nexus file.

seb smoocher, if you want to manually edit your save file, you should use a real text editor. Notepad++ is a decent one that is free and small to download

Do you want to play the vanilla game after having installed SMAPI? Keep in mind that you cannot play vanilla on a previously modded save. Please use separate saves for playing vanilla vs modded Stardew! That said, there are a few ways this can be achieved:

If playing the game through Steam or GOG on a Windows device, clear your launch options, then select play from your game client. See the !launchoptions command for more info.

Go into your game folder and launch StardewValley.exe. See the !findmodsfolder command for more info.

Change the name of your Mods folder to anything other than Mods. Then launch the game as you normally would, this will make SMAPI launch but without any mods being loaded by it.

Then see if the save loads normally.
If the save already loads and you don't see another child, after re-reading your issue, then you probably only have one

Given you're on windows, that top should look like appdata/roaming or w/e it is
Further, I would highly advise backing up your save before you replace it with your edited file and savegameinfo
Because if you messed it up, goodbye your save.

(I didn't know about the interaction tweaks mod and I suggested against it and just suggested debug commands because I'm not helping someone with save editing while I'm doing work calls. That said! I'll keep that in mind for future reference now that I know about it.

Not really doing the second part? While I 100% misread the child thing being a save crash, telling someone to edit a save file over interaction tweaks isn't exactly the best idea
