in theory would only using vortex to add mods to the mods folder directly then launching threw stardrop still work? or is there a way to link nexus and stardrop also?
you mean as in vortex download button or vortex mod manager?
The latter, yes. The former, don't use vortex to add mods at all

yes you can
Vortex has a tendency to misplace files or lose them completely, so even if you only downloaded mods through Vortex it could still break things.

smapi / game just freezes for a while and then crashes to desktop with 0 errors, and thats the log I got

Hmmmmmm.... hard crash. Yeah, I suspect save anywhere, but if it still happens without it, then we might have to go take a deeper look

This is probably why. Either the mod is broken or there is an issue with the install.
So uninstall & reinstall? I have been playing with that mod since I started & im on year 2 & I did check that itβs fully updated. Just for background.
One of the assets is missing or corrupted.
So uninstalling and reinstalling might help.

Thankfully SMAPI handles errors better in 1.6
SinZ and Pathos are working on that specific issue for load orders, because of an East Scarp mod error for 1.6 alpha π
It enters the same loop if two mods load the exact same asset and tries to overwrite each other by labeling it as essential. No buildings load if one refuses to load.

Not really. In general, it's a long, multi-step process
Usual first steps are to check if it happens in vanilla, do a mod binary search, and event viewer's even outside my knowledge base.

Nothing is popping up as a red flag. Can you tell me if your SMAPI console shows additional text beyond the last lines indicated in the log?

That would be really helpful, actually. Sometimes the log doesn't fully capture everything. When the game freezes, do you force it to close or does it close on its own?

I think you should uninstall and reinstall and see if that fixes the issue. I've never heard of that mod before.
If you're up for trying an experiment, play until that happens again, and let it sit for 15 minutes, minimum. If it's still frozen, don't force close it, leave it open. Post a new log here, while it's frozen.

Okay, so the mod itself isn't out of date. 
I think I found the issue! I have an excavation skill made by the modder moonslime, so I think there's a conflict there!
From what I see in the bug reports a lot of issues are caused by conflicts, so there might be an edited asset that is placed in the same folder or drawing the same name.
That's probably it, since it's overriding the recipe names.

Anytime UI reads an error with an exception to something it just means it can't understand what it's looking at and won't display it. It's not uncommon for skill mods or special buffs to be read incorrectly.

Are you experiencing any lag spikes and making sure Stardew is in High Priority in the task manager?
not really theyre pretty rare, it has happened though
Temporarily disable Fishing Info Overlays and see if that helps.

Ooh I didn't even see that on the list. Nice eye.
Fishing Overlay is known for being incredibly intense because it isn't precise-it's an algorithm deducing what fish is being caught. With how many mods you have installed and the animated fish, it's probably pretty taxing under the surface.
It's a nice mod in concept, but in practice, it draws a lot of memory. So it's probably not helpful,....and I just got ninja'd by the bat.

Also yes, the mod is actively trying to calculate what fish is going to be caught under the hood.
And more fish means more calculations when the time changes.
It's how it was designed, because fish spawns don't just occur on DayStart

It's sort of like how Spritemaster is helpful but can overshoot the npc optimization and shotgun people into the void as a consequence.
Especially if you use Timespeed.

and if atra's annoyed, that's enough for me to go on.
You can turn down the sample rate, which helps....somewhat.
And unfortunately defeats the purpose when you have enough fish to need a Fishing Overlay.
Worth it to know that GetData/SetData in monogame is also pretty bad tbh
And content patcher animations calls both of those a lot, which can lead to a lot of lag

Modding is certainly an exercise of learning what not to do more than what to do while tripping towards your goal. I'm learning almost as much from my East Scarp mentors as I am...Terrible optimizations like that.

I should be the one apologizing, Box. I think I got my wires crossed and blended together the solution for Custom NPC Fixes and Font Settings. There are specific instructions to solve a conflict between SM and Font Settings, and now that I'm remembering that, I think it was atra who walked me through how to disable the settings for NPC Fixes.

Yeah so there's a bug with the Phantom Greenhouse that ends up freezing the game for several seconds with SMAPI 3.18.6
The easiest way to fix that is to backdate SMAPI to 3.18.4.
I think SVE has a similar Greenhouse error as well.

you're specifically describing the exact behavior which is a result of said bug
Basically if you have Ridgeside and you've gotten far enough along to unlock the phantom greenhouse, until you complete it the game freezes at midnight every time you play to load it in. You didn't mention it freezing earlier-just straight up crashing when I asked about lag spikes.

Did you delete your old copy first?
You have to uninstall Smapi to reinstall it, and you have to follow the directions in the folder and install it using the proper launcher for your system.

Did you make a new save so you can choose zenith farm?
yeah i made a new save and chose zenith farm, but it was while i had grandpa's farm still enabled so idk if that's the issue
If yes, you need to click a gear on bottom right to choose zenith farm. It use custom farm loader unlike grandpa's farm that change standard

That's probably due to another mod. Unless the map's author specifically wrote code to change the mini-map, it won't look like that farm.

Anyone here use the Combine Machines mod?
Anyway. I wanted to know how many casks can I stack to age a regular wine to iridium in one day? I read on a form that it SHOULD only age a maximum of once per day, taking 3 days to age from normal to Iridium.
But from my experience, when I stack 110 casks and age wine, it'll inform me that it will take one day to get to iridium, but then will move to Silver, and then skip Gold to become Iridium the day after. So I can't really tell if this is a bug or if what I read is old and there is a number of stacks you can do to guarantee a normal to iridium quality in one day.
Also, I removed the base penalty but I can deal with a penalty if I have a concrete number or answer that includes it.
quick question: is it better to run the native linux version of SDV on steam deck? (with a view to running mods eventually).
along the same lines - If I change my SDV to native linux version does my save game transfer across?

Hi! I recently downloaded the PPJA More Trees mod however its too overwhelming. I was wondering if its possible to only keep some of the trees offered in the mod? Worried if just deleting the files would crash my game or something.

you can delete some of the folders, but if you have the more recipes and artisan valley mods, they might have other items that depend on the deleted trees
i dont have any of those mods. the only ppja mods i have are mizu's flowers n the more recipes one. speaking of which - within ppja's more recipes there are 2 folders. however this is the one with the entire list of trees (including ones i want to get rid of) do i just delete the folders since i dont have more recipes n artisan valley? thank you so much btw

i don't have the fruits n veggies mod as its specifically abt the crops n stuff you'll plant. i just want the trees. sorry for not being clear! english isnt my first lang. these r the ppja mods i do have. its just that when you open 'more trees'. you get two split folders.
this being the two folders. mfm just talks abt the mail framework mod n what the letter would say as well as a custom skin for the mail. the more trees just happens to have 'fruit n veggies' hence why i was confused but the more trees nexus page doesnt have fruits n veggies as a requirement.
hm, the MFM folder might contain references to items in the JA folder, I'm not sure
but either way you can try deleting some trees

Hi, how do i find SDV folder if it is on my SD card?
I'm having a little trouble with Better Junimos:
I have upgraded them to enable harvesting in the greenhouse, and confirmed this by right-clicking on the hut adjacent to my greenhouse - it has the
next to the upgrade.
My junimo hut is very close to my greenhouse, and my greenhouse is full of ready-to-harvest ancient fruit. The junimos should have a clear path to the greenhouse and they do exit the hut and run around in the area (see screenshot) but they never go inside. Is there something obvious I'm missing?

My world just randomly reset itself. I was playing normally, and it was like day 20 something in spring, I went to bed, and then woke up it was suddenly day 1, all of my stuff reset, the parsnips were there again and my farm completely reset itself, how do I go back a day in the save files, maybe that would work?

can you try again and just let it sit and load for a bit? "not responding" is normal and if you touch the computer while its doing that it can make it take even longer

SVE doesn't affect recipes that way, but you should have lead with the game being modded π
Also as for sizes for Krobus, that requires sprites in detail or other frameworks that can, unfortunately, break other sprites in game if installed improperly. (Mostly animated texture mods)

Stardrop manages your mods, it can download mods, update them, but also you can create groups where only specific mods are loaded (like multiplayer and single player)
its a mod manager. you can use it to create separate profiles where different mods are active. so you can have one profile for multiplayer and one profile for singleplayer
It's up to you how you want to organize them
I use it to update because I keep a copy of most mods for testing, and it takes literal hours to update if I haven't done it in awhile
i guess it would be better then swap all my mods when chaning mode

Realistically speaking, the easiest workaround - if this isn't the method you used - is just to patch BigShed
i.e. go into mod, see where it's patching to Maps/Shed, patch to Maps/BigShed instead
Especially with mods that make sheds bigger, they generally aren't super-complicated code wise

If its a line attached to your character it may have to do with a recolour clothing/hat/hair mod which wasn't properly coded and then has a few pixels including another shirt/hat/hairstyle

After updating the game to version 1.5.6 the stardew valley shows horizontal line every time the character moves, the problem to put me in windowed mode, but if I go back to full screen or windowed in full screen the problem comes back, already tried turning off and on vsync and changing...
You just need to turn *on v-sync and it should stop

Using a mod called Nari's Artisan Goods, which has an item where any vegetable plus an oil in a preserves jar produces "Veggie Spread." Only problem is now I can't just put in a vegetable to get pickles. Any idea how to fix?
reading the comments, it sounds like a design flaw with the mod honestly
I guess the way to fix it would be to read up on PFM documentation and edit the mod files yourself
Yeah, I can change the input to a single vegetable or something like that (which I did), unfortunately I don't know enough about modding to know how to put in a rule like that
I dont know how many mods you have that depends on this, but can you try removing Quest Framework to see if that does anything?
well changing it to a single vegetable wont work either, as it wont create pickles (or maybe it'll create pickles or spread randomly? not sure)
only the museum expansion, which was causing some sprite problems with another mod so idk if that's the problem

I'm having a problem that's stumping me. I had a playthrough going and everything was working great. I took a break for a few weeks to play a different game, and now SMAPI is crashing before even getting to the ConcernedApe screen. the smapi you are trying to install is made for one version of the game, which is not the version you have. If you want to play with mods, you need to buy and install the game version made for computers
you cannot use the windows version, when you aren't using the windows version of the game
just because its on your computer does not make it the computer version of the game

After over an hour I found I had the wrong version i apparently cannot use the latest version from the app store that I paid for... but I've fixed the issue.

I'm kinda busy, sorry, but at first glance it looks like an installation error with the missing patch files
modding sdv on the switch is kind of a meme, pillow is basically the only one to do it since you need to hack the switch and you have to literally replace game files with modified versions (very unsafe)
most of us play modded on the computer, the rest play modded on android phones (which is a bit buggier)

Did you delete the file and reinstall it or just remove it entirely? And have you slept since then? The unfortunate reality is tmx file replacements, especially ones from pre 2021 are usually quick fixes and can cause visual glitches like that when applying, especially in an existing save.
I removed the original one that has issues then replace the folder with the new one
Also weirdly enough the fireplace by default in the house has the wrong texture I picked it up looked like the one from the left and when place its ok

That definitely sounds like an issue with the tmxl file itself/and or other textures not cooperating in general. Unless the CP for the mod has specific instructions in a Readme or the actual mod page for installation instructions, it might just be outdated or incompatible with your current mod selection.

Two things off the top of my head scanning through the page-did you go into the config files of Farmhouse Fixes and enable hard-coded warps, and it recommends not installing with TMXL (Which is actually what TMXL Map Toolkit was formally called)
I just did the change with the hardcoded warp but I dont understand the tmxl thingy

You have a mod installed that is semi-incompatible with Seasonal Garden Farmhouse V2 mod. That mod is TMXL Map Toolkits. You have to pick and choose if you want mods that work with TMXL Map Toolkit, or this one.
That is if you want to fix the visual glitch. Otherwise, you just have to deal with it.

Custom Furniture is likely throwing that error because it has no fail-safe; you should add a custom furniture pack, try the example one on the mod page and see if the error is gone
I used to use the seasonal garden farmhouse original and stopped because while pretty it was very wonky. I haven't used the unofficial update but the room setup looks the same from the original. Wonky floors and everything

hey im new here but I have a problem. So I downloaded Stardew valley from playstore and downloaded smapi from zaneyork, when I lunch the smapi it crashed can't open up anyone have any idea how to fix this?
Android SMAPI does not currently work for SDV 1.5.6.61. We do not know if or when it will be made compatible.
Mod support for 1.5 on Android is still experimental, so many mods are broken or buggy. That's often something SMAPI needs to fix, and we may not be able to provide a solution.
If you find a mod bug on Android, first make sure that:
a) you have the latest SMAPI version from https://github.com/ZaneYork/SMAPI-Android-Installer/releases;
b) you have the latest mod version(s) or have the last-known Android-compatible version;

hmm. i dont really see anything glaringly obvious that would cause this. can you test something out? put a period in front of the folder for the content patcher mod (so its like .ContentPatcher) and load into the game. there will be a lot of errors probably and sve wont load, but we can test that quickly to see if the issue is being caused by a content patcher mod. go to the mines and see whether its still happening and then close without saving

Android SMAPI is kinda cringe ATM so it doesn't work too well
apps on ios are required to have Ahead-Of-Time compilation for security reasons
technical explanation aside, this means that Harmony (which is what SMAPI and many mods use to alter the game's code) is entirely dead in the water
basically apple said "no apps that can be modified when you run them" which kills modding
desktop is different because it's not reliant on the app store
