Files with the extension .zip, .rar, or .7z are archive files, which you can extract to get the actual files inside. For a .zip file, just right-click (or long-press on Android) it and choose the option like extract or uncompress. For .rar and .7z, you need to install third-party software first, like 7-zip https://7-zip.org/ on Windows (get the x64 version), Keka https://keka.io/ on macOS, PeaZip https://peazip.github.io/ on Linux, or ZArchiver https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.zdevs.zarchiver on Android.
report back whether it works and if it doesnt we can do some more troubleshooting

hi guys it is normal for smapi to have high ram usage up to (10+ gb). i usually play multiplayer, after playing for 7-10 days i have to restart smapi because the game starts to lag. the mods im using are zuzu city, SVE, ridgeside, east scarp, stoffton, fostoria and mineral town (with all their required mods). was wondering if this some sort of memory leak or is it normal?
does it just stay loading forever, or does it tell you it's too big?
if the above happens, you can try to load the game again but close it immediately as soon as it starts spamming red. then you get the log

you should just place the folder inside your mods folder.. but if it's not working, check your log file to see if it's loaded correctly.. if it has.. there could be another mod altering the potraits again after it.

Okay, I took out multiple spouses, change custom spouse to redux, removed unicorns and I'm reinstalling smapi now

You'll have to reinstall both the game and SMAPI. DO NOT run the SMAPI installer as admin. You can backup your mods and your saves if you're worried about losing them
I'm trying to convert a hairstyle mod to work with CP but it has two different hairstyle pngs, is it possible to separately load them and create their entries within the same content.json file?
By reinstall, Nonu means manually delete every single file in your Stardew local files, reinstall the game, install smapi, then put mods back in mods folder
(you can keep the save-backups folder technically, but best to just wipe it all out)
(don't worry nonu, figured I'd clarify since "reinstall" to them might mean "run installer again"!)
Ella, I think that there are indeed two hairstyle files in the game's files, so if you replace them normally with CP, it should be fine. However if you want confirmation, you should ask in #making-mods-general

the big update won't happen for a bit- at most, beta soon for 1.6, and that's if it's soon

For the user, this just means that the mods have old code and will break in SMAPI 4.0 if they are not updated - it is not anything to worry about at this time. I'm actually converting the other way round bc for mine I'm using custom IDs for the entries (because they usually just put the hair mods at slots like 123456 in the character editor) and for CP they usually entry the hairstyles in bulk which is way easier to edit than going into every single hairstyle folder like in FS and editing the content files

Hey, anyone mind helping me pinpoint what exactly is making my game occassionally stutter and freeze? Luckily (so far) it doesn't seem to be crashing anymore, but sometimes it ends up temporarily freezing at random places, which sometimes I can ignore but it has occasionally done so during combat, which is annoying.
I want to preface this tho with the fact that this freezing and stutter does eventually seem to eventually end when the game is open and runs for long enough. But I'd like to try and reduce this, preferably reducing it entirely, just to make things so much more better performance-wise.
My computer isn't the greatest so it might just be a hardware issue. But what I'm hoping for is maybe this is mainly caused by certain mods I could just remove.

Generic Mod Config Menu (or GMCM https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/5098) adds the option to edit some, but not all, mod configs from either the title screen or the options page in a save. It also has a special screen to edit keybinds for all mods with GMCM integration.
The presence of the gear it adds to the title screen is not a method for checking whether mods are installed, only whether GMCM is installed.

this is just a general suggestion, really not in the mood rn to scroll down your log and check out your mods but if you have a lot of expansion mods, those usually come with a performance cost
True. Originally I cut out east scarp and that definitely helped my performance but I wanted the characters back so I installed it again. Rip
also things like seasonal outfits might cause a tiny bit of stutter, but if you say its fine when your game continues to run after a while, i dont think it could be that

SpriteMaster (https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/4922) is a mod that resamples the game's graphics to be smoother and improves performance. It is highly configurable and you can choose which options to enable.
hm yeah that's like the only performance helper mod. tbh im not sure, i dont have a lot of suggestions with this. my game kinda runs like shit (because my laptop isnt that good, and it struggles with 600 mods) but i put up with it either way 😆

'tis mod piracy if not done for multiplayer purposes - multiplayer is barely allowed on that and that's just because large modlists need the same mods, so easier to send a zip over

some retexture, sure, and those are technically fine
But those are usually content packs
You're missing several C# mods
for example, your host has PyTK while you don't (though to be fair, yeet PyTK anyway)
Second, Better Artisan Good Icons is a C# mod so it wouldn't be classed under the retexture thing anyway
third AchtuurCore is a C# mod and needs to be on both anyway
Fourth get glam is broken and should be removed

Short version: On the log, if it has its own entry, it's C#. If it's in italics below a bolded mod? It's a content pack
So for example, Json Assets is its own "entry", bolded, and is C#. But (JA) Cosy Cafe, in italics beneath it, is a content pack.

Hi there, I was hoping someone might be able to help me figure out what's causing a glitch. I've tried googling my problem phrased as many ways as I can and I've got nothing. I can get into details if anyone is interested in helping me troubleshoot, but basically when I add in some mods (it's happened with three different ones so far) some uncollected objects on the ground start cycling through like five or six objects. When I harvest it it stays as whatever it was when I grab it.

I currently have no plans for an android version- I don't have an android copy of the game, nor the tools to develop for android.
IIRC, it's also running on an older version of the game and SMAPI itself
That said, the mod is open-source, so if you or someone you know has the skills, tools, and inclination, you are free to create an android port
but it's not really a "mobile version" thing now that the version's evened up... it's a mobile SMAPI thing, usually
if it was as simple as "recompile this with different settings" I would do it but unfortunately it's a lot more complicated than that. I would essentially be maintaining two entirely different mods

you seem to be putting your mods in the wrong spot
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\Mods go here and drop em in there
and make sure youre unzipping them too

The PyTK mod is now obsolete. You can delete it from your mods folder, and all your mods should be safe.
If you get an error saying you're missing PyTK, open the mod(s) manifest.json and change the PyTK dependency from true to false

correct. Good news is, you can just reinstall SMAPI for it
so give them the mod folder to equal out your mods, then both of you reinstall SMAPI normally

for multiplayer with friends, yes. Doing it outside of multiplayer contexts is considered mod piracy
i was never told that in multiplayer that all mods had to be basically identical expecially since we played with me having mods but recently added world expansion mods. although the mods description probablly said i just didnt look

how can you pirate free things?
takes away downloads, endorsements, etc. from mod creators. It gives creators donation points, visibility on mod pages, etc.
even in multiplayer contexts where you're sharing mods it's still good to tell your friends "hey, download and endorse this mod if you like it"
then nexus or whatever mod platform thingy should include a thing where the person with all the mods can create mod packs on the site and then people can download them all giving all downloads and all

Why collection bad on nexus
- locked behind premium
- use vortex (not recommended)
- the collection consist of outdated mods and can't be updated into it so you still need to update each individually

Yeah that' mobile smapi issue, not cjb itself
android smapi is still kind of buggy. there's certainly been improvements from what i hear, but a most mods still don't work properly
