go to the mod's folder. There's a file called manifest (.json at the end of it if you have extensions on)
open it with notepad
(i.e. double click, there should be an option to select notepad)
where it says "Version": "1.1.0", replace the "1.1.0" with "2.0.0"
Do not replace the comma at the end
if that comma disappears the mod won't load at all
(Signed a modder who is cursed by the lack of commas breaking mods XD )

You can ignore it if you want and already know you've installed the latest version of that mod. Manifest error is usually caused by mod maker/author forgot to change mod version in manifest.json.

The latest released version of PPJA (Project Populate Json Assets, a popular mod) is a conversion from JA to DGA, but it has some bugs in it, and the mod author has retired. Sticking with the older JA version is probably your best option.
You can download the JA version from the Old Files section on Nexus, or by downloading the latest versions of the standalone components instead of the megapack (except for Farmer to Florist, where you would need to look under Old Files in the standalone version).

@upbeat patrol I'm not sure if you're still actively interested in maintaining Child to NPC, but in case you are, the children are no longer being rebuilt as NPCs in the morning when you move from one day to the next. Loading into the game is fine though. I'm still on Smapi 1.17.2, I hadn't noticed until today because I normally only play a day at a time.
Not really game breaking, and might not be worth fixing since SDV 1.6 will probably require more significant changes though, just thought I'd let you know.

How do you figure out if a mod needs an update or not?
noobish explanation but So far it's always the same "nexus page says update X but files says update Y" and I don't understand how to make the status update
could be that the author forgot to update the version number in the manifest.json file of the mod when they uploaded the new version (you can check it by opening the manifest.json file in any text editor)
There’s another mod called Mod Update Menu which Displays when any mods need updates with links to nexus and everything

So let's figure out which. Where do you have the game on?
Alright. Go to Stardew Valley in Steam, click the cog, hover over manage, then click browse local files

"Easier Stardew Valley", "Stardew Valley Modded", "Stardew with Mods", "Quality of Life Stardew", whatever you'd prefer
You can always boot Stardew Valley as normal, but with mods you'll need to boot Stardew Modded

The Stardew Valley - Roguelike mod cannot be played with other mods and will disable new save file creation (and hide your old saves!) while installed. You will need to remove the mod in order to continue to play your other save files or create new ones.

This warning means that CP and SMAPI have had to disable certain optimizations for pytk. Pytk will work fine for now, but you may see increased lag

Anyway. PyTK is going to die in SMAPI 4.0 (and should). it's using highly outdated code so you'll simply have to deal with less optimized gameplay if you want mods that require it

Can someone please help me i have a few mods downloaded and working and I've been playing with SVE and recently have found out about the ridge side town mod and would like to add to SVE I have started up a new save for this and whenever i load up the new save SVE is there but ridge side doesn't seem to work I've tried removing mods that aren't apart of both to see if that's the problem but still nothing

Hi, I've installed SMAPI on the SteamDeck which is based on Linux, I'm trying to find where to place the save files because SMAPI doesn't see the savefiles so I'm guessing they need to go into a different file, I've searched though the files and on google and can't find anything, can someone lend me a hand please?
i have the WoL mod installed and suddenly the purple arrows from the scavenger hunt isnt showing up? The only thing ive changed was turning off hunts on the farm map cause they just kept happening, but that shouldnt get rid of the arrows?

When I tried getting on stardew today I got these errors. I haven't changed any files since the last time I played (Yesterday) so I'm not sure what would be causing this to happen.
The TL;DR of Vibel's link says your audio hardware isn't outputting audio to anywhere. To work, you need the audio to go somewhere, even if it's being piped out to nowhere/muted

Yeah the locations should always load with ease. If they don't, you screwed up the coding for the custom locations and either A) SMAPI will tell you (from-file doesn't exist) or B) it's not even starting the right code

When modding maps, you need to have all the relevant tilesheets- vanilla included - in the same folder you're editing the map in
hahahahahahaahhahahahaa
(which is why you always have a content (unpacked) folder to go nab the tilesheets from)
If you don't do that.... bad things happen

so you just need all the tilesheets in the folder when editing the map
SMAPI will automatically pull the vanilla ones when loading, which is why you only see the custom tilesheets in the folder
Or some of the custom tilesheets, anyway
For stuff like daisyniko's, you'd have to pull the tilesheets from there too
only one variant, but nonetheless, a variant is necessary
This is why on my desktop I have a folder called "Isla Backup (DO NOT TOUCH)" which has all the tilesheets in it
It's a working version and if I ever need to edit a map I rename it something like Custom_UnderwaterCove2, move it into that folder, then edit it there
Then move it back and rename it again and presto, the map works XD
i've put like maybe 30 hours into this farm but it's definitely not too late to abandon LOL

So short version is your steam launch options tells steam which version to launch, vanilla or SMAPI
So you aren't "removing" SMAPI, you're telling Steam to launch vanilla
by removing launch options, that is
your files will not be altered, just don't try and load your modded ones in vanilla

hi! when i try to gift harvey a bouquet, i get stuck in a loop of a "give bouquet" dialogue prompt. please ignore the errors pertaining to skipped mods and removed npcs in my log; i was trying to troubleshoot and see if custom fixed dialogue was the culprit (it is not; i still get the same error with it removed). so far i've gotten this error with harvey and with shane, and one custom npc. i would be super grateful if someone could take a look at the last 3 error messages in my log pertaining to base update loop/stack empty/given key "give_flowersB" not present in dictionary: removed

You'll have 2 apps for vanilla stardew valley and smapi, so it's pretty easy to move from one version to another. And I wouldn't reccomend running stardew valley expanded from vanilla save. New save is reccomended.

modded one depends on what kinds of mods you add. For example ui info suite won't break it, but bigger mods like you said stardew expanded would. It adds new places so they could not generate, and scheuldes would break causing npcs to walk through walls
does the person you're playing with have to have the same mods installed to play together or no?

It may not fix the problem but it may also be that you put an XNB mod that screwed with it
at least per the mods that aren't loading for you already
Try removing animal husbandry and see if it still has the issue
Realized my log has been telling me I've got 6 mods that won't be compatible with a Generic Mods Config Menu update that's due soon. Just making sure- this won't stop the mods from functioning because of conflicts at all, it'll just mean I can't edit them ingame anymore, right?

Tbh this one's beyond me if it's not on the mod description page. you're using the mirror, the trace indicates your FS packs are being loaded, so IDK what's happening
Unless this changed recently FS doesn't contain those by default.
From what I see (quick look) you've packs for hairs and hats. Those don't work too?

I've just checked with the latest FS-version: There are no vanilla shirts etc. You need a content pack for that.

Trying to get modded to run on steam deck -- it works, but anytime i exit the game smapi.exe is left running (and is near impossible to close)
the only other mod i have that changes the farmer sprite is dynamic bodies, which i really dont use anyways, so ill try without that and see if thats causing some sort of conflict
Enable the other mods you use (not all at the same time) and see if the issue returns.

Your issue, for the record, sounds like you guys have a mod mismatch if you can't enter Marnie's house
That's actually a common thing to happen - not just the "can't load into area" but Marnie's house specifically seems to come up a lot.
That and the forest, for some reason. Either way, we need the host's log as well in order to figure out what's up.
Long play session or did you run into a repeating error?
And trust me, that's not the longest we've seen. Pro tip: run from those with 1000+ mods XD

Your modcount does not match their smapi log's count, so I have a pretty good idea that it's mod mismatch
However, even if you cannot just drag and drop the log due to it being over 10000 lines (i.e. parser says it's too big) just reboot the game so the old log is overridden and we can work from there.
(I would try and drag and drop the SMAPI-latest txt into the parser, though)

It is not possible for the mods folder to not appear
literally. The installer would throw an exception
it is far more likely that you installed it in the wrong directory
For example, your Stardew could be on D: drive, but the default install directory is on C: drive

If finding a log is too confusing and you're able to load your save, you can install the In-Game SMAPI Log Uploader to get the log without having to search through the files. Now defining that command... I help out in here enough I know damn well people can be like "okay I don't know what instructions are saying"
so I was just like "okay fuck it, find the default behavior, then have users put it on and click the pufferfish after holding the left alt button"

Then we don't have to go through the whole thing of "okay, error logs folder in stardewvalley folder in appdata..."

Assuming you're not using the autolog mod, Dominion, you need to paste the SMAPI-latest file from the errorlogs folder into the log link that was linked
and by paste I mean drag and drop it there
do not copy everything within the file

Last I heard Vortex should be getting some improvements, but while I'm not too certain you should just use Stardrop.

Launch the game. Then if you hold alt, there will be a puffer logo on top left. Click it and log will be uploaded to smapi.io/log automatically
