Vortex (Nexus) and ModDrop both are mod managers that can help you keep your mods up to date, but they are difficult to troubleshoot. If you're looking for a mod manager that was written specifically for SDV and has troubleshooting logs built in, you can try Stardrop (!stardrop).

Hi, I hope someone might be able to help me with this issue. I've been using smapi with no issue for the past few weeks, but last night when I removed a mod. from the folder, it somehow messed up my game. I've uninstalled everything, deleted %appdata% folders etc and reinstalled everything. I currently have no mods (except the 3 that come with smapi) in the folder. The issue I'm running into now is that smapi will take several minutes to load fully before launching the game. I've never had this issue before and the smapi error log is pulling no errors. Has this happened to anyone else before?

it's generally not recommended to use the DGA version of PPJA b/c it's got quite a few bugs

The latest released version of PPJA (Project Populate Json Assets, a popular mod) is a conversion from JA to DGA, but it has some bugs in it, and the mod author has retired. Sticking with the older JA version is probably your best option.
You can download the JA version from the Old Files section on Nexus, or by downloading the latest versions of the standalone components instead of the megapack (except for Farmer to Florist, where you would need to look under Old Files in the standalone version).

it's not very helpful if i can't tell which items or which mods are missing and 2 of these are base game recipes.
i have several PPJA mods as well but not all of them. is it possible one of those has changed these recipes despite not adding the required items?

Slight correction to this - they mean running StardewModdingAPI(.exe). If you run StardewValley.exe that'll just give you vanilla XD

i guess this is a silly question, but im fairly new to modding and my question is, would it be better to use a pc over a mac? ive tried to upload mods to the game in the past and have a very low success rate, im wondering if this is just bc I use a mac and a pc would be a better option or that i just insert the files incorrectly.

depends on your mod load? modding on mac is a little different than pc (in terms of where to put files only), but it shouldnt make a difference besides that for modding

yeah 😭 ive looked to the guide for help but it still never works for me. i think one of my issues is that for some reason, rar files in particular, refuse to be unzipped so I think I’ll have to get a separate program for that
also I guess I have another silly question, so you have to unzip the mod when it’s in the mod folders, right?
The zip/rar file might be placed anywhere, but the location to unzip must be mods folder

@glad iris Files with the extension .zip, .rar, or .7z are archive files, which you can extract to get the actual files inside. For a .zip file, just right-click (or long-press on Android) it and choose the option like extract or uncompress. For .rar and .7z, you need to install third-party software first, like 7-zip https://7-zip.org on Windows, Keka https://keka.io on macOS, PeaZip https://peazip.github.io on Linux, or ZArchiver https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ru.zdevs.zarchiver on Android.
looks like something went wrong with Love of Cooking, which edits at least one of those recipes
why is it editing it if it's missing the mod that provides the needed ingredients? and i double checked i have all mods listed as required for it
yep, it did show up. im not sure what's exactly wrong since i know i have a quite a bit of mods, but there was never trouble before

you're missing More Recipes and have stuff that depends on More Recipes
you can also update some of your mods

it added way more than i wanted to deal with right now
i haven't played in a while but I think More Recipes + Artisan Valley adds chocolate etc?

love of cooking does change how cake works and requires you to have a few levels in cooking to get the recipe but it might've added a second recipe?
nope, neither cake or cookies come up in the search. triple checked that the filter is set right so it should appear

Any idea on why Ridgeside Village NPC's are spawning in Stardew Valley? Is that intentional or am I not doing something right?

kenneth checks the lamps in pelican town. i think you meant that instead of saying stardew valley... but yes those npcs, east scarpe npcs, and Boarding House and Bus Stop Npcs all visit during some of their schedules. Its to make it seem like everything is integrated somewhat and everyone has friendships/relationships/acquaintances.
Anything in the console about not being able to load certain graphics maybe? Does it persist if you restart the game? What did you do before that showed up?
nope, no errors about those. i installed a few mods before this started but none of the mods are supposed to conflict with the stones, fibers, etc though
i had this problem before but i only had to disable the debris configs on recolor mods but now it seems to be a different problem i think (bc i've disabled the debris configs stuff)
did you tweak any mod images by chance?
the same thing happened to me while i was trying to change the spring objects tilesheet
could also be caused by a xnb mod

that's probably it taking into consideration the invisible items in your inventory
if you delete certain things off the image but it is coded to overwrite the whole tilesheet, the items that don't have a texture will show up as invisible
i've done the same in the past😅if you want certain textures from somewhere it's best to merge them to an existing mod unless you know a bit about coding and you figure out how to properly do a cp mod for it
(which isn't that difficult but i can understand it can be confusing, it's easier to just use another mod as a base)

20 minutes is still pretty good. With just something like 300-400 I was at like 40 minutes ... yes I am currently trying to refine that mod set. There was stuff that was redundant and might be cause that 10 minute pause during loading (no new smapi log entries)

Sure, but as I said it's likely because there is stuff that's just conflicting. It's a wild brew of lets grab stuff and see how we get that to work. For example in that version I still had Love of Cooking and Cooking Skill (which doesn't make all that much sense). Gimme a minute to find the log.

Well it was stuck in "not responding" for a while and I am not sure what shenanigans Windows was up to in the background (it did use up to ~9 GB RAM so it might've been swapping as well). Ah Well I guess it was more content packs than I realized. Only ever watched for the count of mods.
But I applaud SDV/SMAPI to be able to launch it at all and actually not crashing as I joined the game. That could've gone much, much worse.

Yeha I know, which is how I noticed that Nexus Collections leave a lot to be desired. Having 4 different versions of SMAPI popup and fighting wasn't fun either. Good idea ... still needs quite a bit of work to work well for SDV.
As for removing PyTK I'd love to but I also love Fishing Trawler which sadly still depends on it. Maybe I should consider into updating that ... could be a good excuse to get into SDV modding.
PeacefulEnd was working on an updated version of Fishing Trawler. I think they're on a bit of a break currently though.
Thanks for mentioning that, good to know! The github does have a rather recent commit. Having a look wouldn't hurt. I can learn a thing or two for sure and if I end up doing something right I might help out in some way.

So i installed Ridgeside Village and all its requires mods and put them in a mods folder in the Stardew folder, but when i open Smapi, everything but the ridgeside valley mod loaded, including the custom music, im very confused and dont know how to fix it, help!

Hello! My CJB Cheats mod won't allow me to move at any differing speed, no matter what I set it at. I play on PC game pass, and it used to work fine! My SMAPI and CJB Cheats files are both updated, as well as the game itself. I deleted every other mod in the folder except for CJB cheats and the file that goes with it. Nothing is working, please help! Pathoschild responded to me on Nexus and told me to ask here so that we could run some tests!

So I've been having this issue for a while, unsure how to explain tho, bare with me. So when you receive a new blueprint/tool upgrade in stardew, this animation plays, and in it there's a sprite above (first image is from a video)
so in my game it plays fine, but there's a visual error where the item above just isn't there (atleast i think it's an error?)

Anyone know what version of skull cavern elevator works with Sve 1.11.16? I’m on mobile so I have to use the older versions. I’ve tried a few different version and while they work on mobile they aren’t Sve compatible, even though the one I’m using is supposed to be. Currently using 1.2.7

I don't see any obvious issues in the log. I think we'll need a custom build of the mod to see why it's not working, hold on.
Oh, one other thing to check. Can you post a screenshot of the top of the options screen in the game menu?
okay wait, i figured it out I think? If i hold shift, my speed buff comes back ! how do i get it back to working without holding shift?
Yep, that's why. The speed buff only applies when you're running, so you can just enable that 'auto run' option to keep it on.

I opened stardew valley (Stardew MegaExpansion modpack from nexus) today and loaded into my first year midfall save, but everything on the farm is gone and the map reset to one of the default ones instead of the modded map the modpack included. I've tried reinstalling the modded map, but that didn't work

Is there a way to turn off the smapi message that comes up after a game crash when you relaunch saying you need to hit any key to continue? Because having the terminal disabled on steamdeck prevents that message from coming up, so the game just immediately closes again.
I had to go into esktop mode and set the terminal back to false, launch it, hit any key, then go disable it again. Which doesn't feel as long typing it out as it did when I was doing it...

So people know what I brought up. After SVE updated and the CBJ Cheats menu shortly after, about 3 months ago I think, casks stopped progressing and I had to use the cheat menu to make them finish which I never did before. I deleted both, made a new save file since the old was for a specific map that changed completely with the mod. Anyways. It works just fine again

Your log has several mods out of date that are causing most of the errors
I would update SMAPI, but you need to do two things at the bare minimum
First, update Content Patcher. https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/1915
Latest update is 1.28.1
This will fix most of your problems. You also need to reinstall East Scarp.
After those two you'll only be missing the "More Accessories and Stuff" because you didn't install Fashion Sense

If you do the content patcher thing, you'll have solved almost all of your problems

btw Lyoko it looks like Pathos has the 1.19.0 version on Moddrop as the main version, likely for Android users (it's ID'd as such). He does also have the "older" files updated to 1.27.2 (so slightly out of date but not as out of date as it appears at first glance)

Yep everything was the updated version cuz it’s the same exact files when I try to install them. Every time I start up it says expanded is missing entirely
content patcher is at version 1.19.0, which is too old
that seems to be the only serious problem, though you could update few other mods (they are noted at the beginning on the log site)

Im new to the community but ive been having issues that appeared out of nowhere (was running fine for a few weeks and then suddenly this issue started) to do with "untitled titlesheet" from the immersive farm remastered 2 map from stardew expanded. So far ive tried reinstalling/updating the map, stardew expanded, content patcher as well as the rest of the stardew valley VERY expanded collection ive been using. Try downgrading vortex to 1.6.10. I believe that's the last version of vortex that worked at least for me

it shouldn't, i think at worst there could be some JA id shuffle and maybe some misplaced trees/bushes due to map patches. the first problem usually fixes itself and reset terrain features mod can be used to fix the second

Reset Terrain Features (https://smapi.io/mods/#Reset_Terrain_Features) is a mod that lets you reset, clear, or generate everything that spawns on a map using an in-game menu. I tried removing the auto-harvest and auto-collect on JoE to see if it's the one causing the issue, harvested like 80 pineapples still nothing

But in short you cannot play in 1.5.6 with mods If you can only play on compatibility. You will need to roll back to 1.5.4 and use mods from that time period to use it

Your Custom Farm Map is not being applied because both of your mods are attempting to apply something via a Load Operation, which makes SMAPI go "No, you know what, you two mods can't share, so neither of you get it!"
You'd have to either tinker with the code or, more likely, remove one of the two

Alright, so you have 950 mods, yes?
The load order is alphabetical. This means the game can throw no errors and still not have things show up, because something later overwrites something earlier
For example
Let's say I added in Ridgeside. Now, Ridgeside's coding is good and wouldn't do this, so I'm kinda being rude by using it, but still. Ridgeside could edit... say... the wine bottle sprite
BAGI could also have edited the wine sprite, but it starts with B
So it initially loads the BAGI sprite, but then Ridgeside loads in and Ridgeside says "no, change it to this", so SMAPI does
SMAPI throws zero errors from this because as it sees it, everything went perfectly.
So, in essence, you have two options. You either have to change the name of the mod stuff to start with a z so it loads after the others - and therefore applies last, even though that starts to be a pain, especially with 950 mods - or you check which mods you added yesterday screwed with things

Yea.. i went threw 3 days trying to see if it disappeared.. it was happening with farmers child so i ended up removing it thinking it was the issue and used unique children and it worked for a while until now

No, that's from SVE
I actually learned that from editing the Saloon Map. SVE uses its own tilesheet rather than the original game's tilesheet for the couch in the Saloon
The game works by allowing you to only sit on tiles which correspond to the base game's tilesheet
so as a workaround it looks like the mapmaker decided to put down chair tiles on another layer - and you see the tiles when you sit on them.

There are several issues with your modpack crafty
But mainly, your particular issue is likely due to an XNB mod since even if nothing else the sprites for stone and seeds would not be entirely missing.

I'd also take out either Rosy Cottage Farmhouse or Seasonal Custom Buildings, or find the config that makes them compat, because right now they're both trying to use the 'Buildings/houses' asset
meaning neither is being applied and you're getting vanilla there

I did notice all the items that didn't show up happened to be DGA items. Is it because of the way DGA handles items? and is that something that might be fixed later?

dga and ja will probably be deprecated in 1.6, as that will add support for custom items
sometimes some mods have certain names on the item you search up to find them

use the console command dga_shop (or it might be dga_store?) to spawn in DGA items
they will not appear in CJB

The latest released version of PPJA (Project Populate Json Assets, a popular mod) is a conversion from JA to DGA, but it has some bugs in it, and the mod author has retired. Sticking with the older JA version is probably your best option.
You can download the JA version from the Old Files section on Nexus, or by downloading the latest versions of the standalone components instead of the megapack (except for Farmer to Florist, where you would need to look under Old Files in the standalone version).

yeah, uh, i'd recommend just straight up quarantining some mods and only having bagi/better resources installed, and then adding content packs back in groups to narrow it down easier

I got the happy birthday mod (I'll give a link if needed) and it works fine, but when I marry, you get to choose your favourite item, but the box for it is way to big and it ends up locking me there, I haven't had this issue with anything else, I've glanced at the Smapi (although I have absolutely no clue what to look for there) and I don't see any issues there, especially nothing with the birthday mod

I have a modded farm with one farmhand. Every time she goes into my farmhouse, she gets stuck in a loading screen. We can't figure out the problem. Question for the fantastic modding community: Is there a way to set a JA object, like PPJA's dried flowers, to have dynamic pricing instead of a static price? For example, having it increase the price as something like base flower price + 5% instead of setting all dried flowers to a static 175 gold sale price?
more trees for JA? maybe? wind effects also edits trees a wee bit i think. recolor mods will also do it. magical trees is also named "magica trees" so it may just be that mod being broken lol, still looking thru the modlog

This is just a guess, but try removing Entoarox Framework. It caused some strange issues with mine

How do you play on Grandpa's Farm with Stardew Valley Expanded? I don't see it listed as one of the maps when creating a character, also don't see it on nexus
