im not very good with lighting either, but i would just recommend using a sharper brush, rather than an airbrush, like maybe a pen! and afterwards you could go over that with a small airbrush to make it seem like real light. ill try and make an example rq

and i would use very vibrant colors, which you can then balance out with shadows!

I've been trying to use vibrant colors, particularly the pink and blue, but everything got kinda washed out in the proces. I tried using hard light and overlay but i don't get blending modes too well either haha

it looks very good! i just would just keep it simple with blending, because you can overdo anything

and if you see in the reference image, some of the lighting isnt blended at all, but it sort of gradually fades in to the rest of the coat

here! while its not the same colours, i wanted the shines to be really shiny because theyre under bright sunlight so i put a hard brush over where the sun would hit them to make extra extra shiny

im not sure if i am allowed to post this so i censored it (sinces its a little suggestive) but this is a better example of lighting thats similar to yours

you airbrush areas that are curved and use a hard brush on the edges!

I reworked a few of his expressions that i felt were a bit strange looking (his angry and "surprised" ones in particular lol)

it is pretty good! though the character in the portrait is not exactly centred in the portrait, centring it will help it look and fit better, also the hat is a bit way to high up on the head that it looks like it only being supported by the hair, lowering the hat up to the forehead should do the trick, but overall I quite like it!

I'm that one person who doesn't like procreate after using it for a few years :/ There's not really anything better imo, but I just cannot produce art with the way the app feels compared to a drawing tablet and computer. The app is too smooth and there's no option for stability apart from the horrible brush settings. May work with some specific peoples workflows, but I know a large amount of people who also don't like it.

It's like, I can only produce art with one specific type of flowy artstyle on there—which is not an artstyle I like and am used to.

I'm sure if I went at it again for another solid 3 years and tried really really hard I may be able to have a bit more control? But I'd rather not

Although being self employed means you don’t get any health insurance benefits or retirement funds, and you gotta deal with all that yourself, at least you can take off work when needed and not have to go through the hassle of getting the time off approved by your boss

I rly loved my first tablet when I got it bc I was used to doing digital art with mouse, so not Seeing my hand was easier

now that I have my screen tablet . . .I'll admit my hand-eye coordination has declined very slightly

if youre gonna do anatomy practice i recommend using naked figures or the ones that wear sports bras and underwear
its a looooot easier to see forms and muscles and to recognize proportions
