Okay, personally, I like to be efficient with obelisks and often put them around the north exit, so they're easy to reach from the house, BUT that area on this map is a bit too busy to fit all 4, so my suggestion is to put a mini-obelisk by your house leading to the northwest corner with Grandpa's shrine, and having your obelisks set out there.

Most efficient layout for kegs (or jars) is 137 in one big shed. Personally I use one big shed with kegs just for starfruit wine production, and one shed of jars for jelly and pickles (mostly ancient fruit or any other vege or fruit I have stored ^^)

Hey does anyone know good farm planning tips?

I am trying to construct my first good farm and needless to say I have no idea what I am doing,

Way too many paths but I love the boldness of the unshapen blobs of field

[cosmic atlas]

You will get a lot of recommendations for stardew.info and it is very useful, but for me the number one thing is trying to lay things out in a way that makes sense to move through. So like, coop and barn close to the house at first, but not blocking off the north exit to the backwoods, and making sure there is dirt where grass can spread near said coop and barn. Clear walking paths between house and exits, as short as I can make them given the map, but avoiding right angles because I hate them. Crops near water early on, often planted from day 1 with bits of gravel where sprinklers and scarecrows will go.

Also don't forget you can always move your buildings around at Robin's for free.

I almost never use the square tiles outdoors, in favor of cobblestone/crystal path/stepping stone path. All of them are much more rounded and make more graceful diagonals and curves.

I mostly just keep animals on my beach farm (void chickens and cows). Some fish ponds too, like lava eel and blobfish. I grow all my plants (ancient fruit) in the greenhouse so I can use sprinklers. Fruit trees are a good idea. I ended up getting so many animals that I use most of my farming space as grasslands now. It's ugly, but it keeps them fed.

I don't even need the money from the milk and eggs... it's just kind of nice to have them around. Like pets.

And with the 1.5 update, it takes some of the toil out of keeping animals. || I was so excited to find two auto-petters in the Skull Caverns. I just need one more to keep my last barn full of animals happy. ||

I don't bother with basic sprinklers, but I often lay out my crop area right from the start with gravel patches where the scarecrow and quality sprinklers will go.

I normally put crops randomly in spring (depending on where I have the space), with start of summer I have quite a few quality sprinkler already, so I normally put them in a 3x3 pattern with a scarecrow in the middle. Like here (Imagine from Fall, because I forgot to take a pic for Summer)

I generally prefer a pattern, where I have it easy to plant and harvest crops. One less Spinkler Spot for Scarecrow doesn't bother me ^^

Not at the moment but the northeast is a spring orchard: cherries and apricots; the northwest is a summer orchard: oranges and peaches; and the southwest is a fall orchard: apples and pomegranates. I typically grow ancient fruit in all 3 junimo fields because I am very very late in post-endgame in 1.4 mobile and am mostly goofing off with breaking the money counter 😂

Interesting layout for trying to go sprinkler-free, never seen that before. Personally I always go with 8 iridium with the hut in the center of where a 9th would go, or 24 quality with the hut where a 25th would go (both of these wind up with an identical number of crop tiles).

when it comes to tappers i actually dun tap trees on my farm. i like making a big tapping space in my quary and have 1 of each tree on my farm to show when they are ready

Here are some areas where you could fit some more crop fields:

I suggest you go mining and make a bunch of quality sprinklers

They make crop expansion much easier

Scarecrows can protect 6 tiles in any direction (8 straight up and down, but not diagonally - it's a circle - so I just keep it simple and tell myself their limit is 6)

Conveniently, quality sprinklers span 3x3 tiles. One of my favorite simple crop layouts is 16 quality sprinklers, 4 squares of 4 divided by a cross with the scarecrow in the centre. 128 tiles, fully protected and neatly organized :heart_eyes:

Yeah it looks good. You'll be able to replace the middle spot with a sprinkler as you make them, and you can water the line with the watering can upgrade=)

Furniture catalogue is really good. But don't put all you savings into it. Only buy it once you are comfortable with spending that much money

But never be afraid of trying new things. If you really want the furniture catalogue, just buy it. Best way to experience the game is by finding out all the things yourself. My first farm I changed at least once a year (winter is great when you want to redecorate and replace buildings).

I always just place stuff random first year and then redecorate in winter. Then I like doing layouts with paths for stuff

Standard, make money first then spend winters redoing farm in later years. I didn't start till year 7 and still tweaking farm in year 19. Winters are great for decorating / redesign and going hard in the mines.
