Winter day 3, year 1

planning to join the barn/coop pasture to the area around the greenhouse and adjusting the fenced in area to make it a little more balanced with the small crop area on the right, then I’ll finish the bee garden lower left and start a shed/camping area above the largest pond. Not much interested in ponds or slime hitch action, but if anyone has ideas for exterior shed or cabin decoration like a small town I’d appreciate any ideas!

My favorite thing to do is place all the buildings (coops, barns, sheds, ponds, slime hutch etc) in random places on your farm and build around that

Using grass, trees etc it looks really natural!

I find that when I try making stuff organized it tends to look really really structured and not so pretty

It may not be the most efficient way to do it but it definitely results in some aesthetically pleasing farms !

i'd rather set things up for convenience first, aesthetics second, thats why i moved my greenhouse closer to the house, cause it felt too far away, also doing the math on how much grass is needed for 6 fully upgraded animal barns/coops keeps me from ever fully filling them, i may have 2 barns and 2 coops, but i have like 8 chickens and like 2 cows cause i don't have much grass growing space to keep up with feeding them through winter

been really tempted to try out one of those grass spread speeder upper mods or the one that keeps the fresh grass from being consumed when the animals feed on it

I have no problem feeding my animals fresh grass over the whole year (except winter of course) and without spending too much money on grass starter. For that a few tricks I thought of: put fences on your grass, the animals can't eat it and it will keep spreading still. I made two areas for animals to eat grass. When area 1 is open, animals can eat the grass there, while area 2 is closed, to regrow grass on it. Once area 1 is almost empty I switch to area 2 and close area 1, so the grass can slowly regrow there too and animals can eat fresh grass again. Just need enough fences and gates for animals to pass through.

if you wanna go the vanilla route, animals cant eat grass if a lightning rod is placed on it, so if you place on top of grass itll grow forever from that spot

the problem with most non-visual stardew mods (different farm layout mods, greenhouse mods) is just that they tend to make the game too easy unfortunately

like, i love automate but it definitely makes the game way too easy imo

Well no one is forcing you to get them 😅 I personally don't like automate but I'm fine using CJB mods cause I know I won't abuse it

I do like CJB item spawner for some deco items we can't get otherwise

Does anyone have any good looking barn pen ideas? I need to be able to have pigs dig up truffles still but my current area looks dry as hecc

Idk how to explain this but you could probably make patches of grass in places but subtly block them from growing with stepping stones/cobblestone paths?

Or place lots of plant pots/trees to fill the empty space while still having enough space for truffle digging

I would change so much here since truffles are hard to find
