If you create a scenario where the only available catches are jelly and trash/seaweed/algae, you'll actually trend towards never catching river or sea jelly, because jellies are weird and have pre-determined RNG that determines whether you catch them, and this RNG is only updated when you catch fish or jelly.

So if there's only jelly and trash, you'll maybe catch a bunch of jelly in a row, but the moment the RNG value turns bad and you fail to hook the jelly, you'll get nothing but trash until you change up your strategy and go hook something else, because that RNG won't ever change from the failing value.

well automating a bit helps
just leave some long growing crops like starfruit on the island with some sprinklers and you won't have to worry for several days but you're still making profit

Yes I do that by default too. Taro is very cheap to plant(not time/resource consuming compared to other things), sells quite good, can be traded for multiple things and can also be used for blue discus ponds(which give bananas and golden coconuts). Taro is the easiest tropical quest to me.

Attempting to work out a Dragontooth Club build because I like the hammer special.

Dragontooth Club Build
• Innate: +12 speed
• Enchant: Artful (reduces special move cooldown by 50%)
• Gems: Aquamarines (Crit Chance) OR Rubies (Damage)

• Boots: Mermaid Boots (5/8)
• Trinket: Perfect Quiver (dmg, defense) or Fairy (healing)
• Skills: Scout + (Acrobat or Desperado?)
• Rings: Iridium/Luck + Burglar/Luck (luck increases crit chance and has a lot of non-combat utility)

Unclear if I should go Acrobat for another 25% reduced special cooldown or desperados for better crits.

I think if you use aquamarine you should go for acrobat and then vise versa

I would suggest the ice rod over the quiver.
Frozen enemies are rooted in place, including aerial ones. This means you can pummel them with the hammer special, without the knockback flinging them out of range early

A frozen Serpent is a free kill

If you like the hammer special swing speed isn’t useful as you’ll basically only ever be using the special attack. So innate should be for damage

I can like hammer special without doing it 100% of the time. It's an extra fun thing with this setup rather than a core feature.

Luck has great non-combat utility on top of the extra crit chance and switching out rings for combat is a chore.

The point of the +12 speed with desperado is that this weapon can get faster than an infinity sword and it has an innate 50 crit power.

• Infinity sword with fighter + brute, 3 ruby gems, 2 iridium bands with 2 ruby rings: 765 DPS (2% crit chance, 3x crit damage)
• Infinity sword with scout + desperado, 3 aquamarine gems, 2 iridium bands with 2 lucky rings: 1089 DPS (28.7% crit chance, 6x crit damage)
• Dragontooth club with scout + desperado, 3 aquamarine gems, 2 iridium bands with 2 lucky rings: 1318 DPS (28.7% crit chance, 8x crit damage)

Acrobat+Artful makes the cooldown so short that by the time the special attack animation is over, you're already well on your way to the next. Together, they do practically cause the special to become the primary attack

I understand the build, and speed isn’t the way to go for either the hammer spam or crit build. You either want to invest in the very broken innate crit power or just plain damage

Luck isn’t as useful as you think, especially not late game. It’s practical uses that 1-2 buff luck would have an affect on are finding treasure rooms in sc, finding ladders in sc, and panning for lucky rings. The last is super situational, the first prettt much the same, and the use in finding ladders is trivialized by staircases, something you should probably have in abundance by the time you’re properly creating combat builds

Luck rings mid and late game are nigh on useless outside of swapping them on once in a blue moon and very optimized mining builds where you are constantly ring swapping

You’ll get far more practical use from another iridium band in actual mining and combat, and the additional light is a mediocre help outside the mines

Combat is so situation dependant too that you often won’t really reflect true values onto actual play

Crit builds for example are often worse than they are on paper due to monsters not being infinite health dummies that could actually take a 7000 damage crit

I would go with a dragontooth club for the more swing centric crit build

And gavel for a hammer spam build. You can do both the swinging or special attack for either but it isn’t nearly as effective on the wrong build

I’d say a decent mix if you really want it is a crit oriented dragontooth hammer with acrobat

Though just the crit build enough can use the hammer spam just fine

You do not need to get barn or coop for a joja run. You will need for perfection though. It's good to skip them actually since they are pretty expensive and are more a long term investment. It seems you are doing good.

One of the bigger reasons to pick fruitbats is to potentially get lucky with tree fruit for the community center. The Prize Machine has one random summer sapling and one random fall sapling in it; it's quite possible to reach them in time to plant them so that they do give fruit in the first year.

When you see the fall sapling coming up, you can plan around buying the opposite one for the CC (Poms for Enchanter bundle, Apples for Fodder bundle). The shroom cave's better money value helps this along.

Plus I keep hearing people moaning about the changes to Foraging EXP, and the Shroom cave gives more of that than the Fruitbat cave now
