I was using the ice rod before I got my first parrot egg and I was enjoying it (esp for a certain area in a certain mod that I won’t name for spoiler reasons) and honestly, as nice as extra gold is I think I might be better off w the ice rod with where I’m at financially

Carrots only sell for as much as Parsnips (which is to say: not a lot)
But when you eat them, you recover quite a lot of energy compared to most items

It's kind of hinted in their description

They're great as energy snacks until Salmonberry season

Later on, once you have a horse, you can also feed it a carrot to make it run a tiny bit faster for the rest of that day

(Also maybe you just wanna feed your horse something rather than treat it like a glorified vehicle)

If you have a lot of crops to harvest, Farming for the Iridium Scythe.
In my case, I got my first Mastery point in the middle of winter, so I didn't pick Farming (not a lot to harvest).

Foraging can wait until later. You need a lot of tree seeds to get started (5 oak, 5 pine, 5 maple, 5 mahogany to craft 1 Mystic Seed) and you can get started collecting the seeds for it before choosing Foraging
