Rope Storage is a niche tech that was around since the launch of the game, its not a overpowered bug that will change the game exponentially. Its rarely used in the average run and doesn't give as much of an advantage as other bugs. Of course the removal of this one bug isn't exponential, but towards the niche competitive community, it starts worries that more tech used more commonly that makes the game more fun may be removed in the future as well.

Also this is just my statement on the removal of the tech, I would like for others to make their points as well.

Rope Storage has been seen as and treated like a niche and creative use of rope spool that didn't actively provide an extreme advantage to anyone who knew. More than anything it was fun trivia to show your friends or a small advantage when carrying beehives (which usually aren't worth carrying across 4 separate slots in their intended form).
It was also necessary to complete some of the harder community-made challenges (#1414438476035653642 #1421130168340189246) which is what the most dedicated players of the entire community enjoy outside of general speedrunning. While we know that it wasn't intentional, it created a genuinely fun ecosystem in the community and helped boost both community collaboration in the form of guides and challenges, and the general opinion of the game for advanced players who appreciate the freedom provided with the game's mechanics. It's also worth mentioning that Rope Storage was integral to the top submissions of the community contest (#✨server-announcements message) a while back. If it weren't for Rope Storage, it wouldn't have gone as well as it did. The community loves Rope Storage.

Ultimately, Rope Storage didn't hurt the game. Sure, it was unintended and could be abused if players really wanted to, but there are countless bugs or features like that in the game anyway such as the Cannon Glitch or the ability to bypass the Mandrake Badge by muting in-game audio.
Rope Storage found an unintended place in the community that was only positive. It was a motivation for me to make my guides in here (#1425299272705904811 #1422440710480728105) which have become well-loved and valuable community contributions according to countless people in here.
I believe that Rope Storage was a happy accident in a way. Far from intended but has shown to be only a positive for the game and community.

I thought I had nothing to say bc I don't participate in Discord challenges or like to exploit for achievements but reading what people have said it seems like people have genuinely found a lot of fun and self-imposed challenge with these bugs. Just like cannon glitch, it enhances the "silly fun with friends"-factor of this game. It might be worth to check other guides and challenges (threads on this channel) to see how people are creating community and finding creative uses for the bugs and techs they have found. It also helps dedicated players keep the game fresh for hundreds of hours without hurting the regular playerbase.

I can personally say that I thought I had dried up all the game's content around 40 hours in. Then one day I randomly learned about community challenges and fell in love with them. Challenges and Tech have now contributed to hundreds of hours of my playtime, most of my friends' playtime, and likely every single top player in the game. I would not still be playing the game if it weren't for this stuff and I think I can reasonably say that it was pretty good luck for me to stumble upon it all months ago.
It's emergent gameplay. Emergent gameplay is by far the best way to create a long-lasting game and community.

To follow on from what Piano said, the removal of rope storage raised alarm bells for a lot of the more dedicated players because of what it could potentially mean for other 'tech' on his tech thread. In its current state, the game offers a huge amount of enjoyment to those dedicated enough to sink hundreds of hours into the game, because of how rewarding these (for the most part unintended) mechanics feel to learn and master. The removal of rope storage gives rise to the notion that more of this tech could potentially be removed in a random fortnightly patch, some of which would severely negatively impact the experience that a lot of us have while playing the game. As Piano has said, players have sunk hundreds of hours into practicing this stuff, and the idea of any of it being removed makes a lot of us quite nervous.

I think their points seem fair, as much as finding a way to pocket the mandrakes (and apparently other items you normally cannot) are both funny and cool, it did pretty much make their uniqueness, of not being able to be pocketed for a reason or other, entirely defeated.

Mind, I'd like to be able to pocket it again, but I think there could be a drawback, either hidden or told, so the player would have to decide if the risk outweighs the reward. (Like maybe Mandrake in pocket slowly DoT's Sleep similar rate to chill in A-5).

Or if it's Dynamite, taking too much fire injury sets it off, taking too much injury breaks the beehive, etc.

And on topic of engagement with these bugs, I couldn't fully control, as host, who's doing them if I hosted Vanilla or Modded lobbies, let alone kick them from the instance. (Same with Cannon bug, too.)

Alternatively, instead of removing the bug altogether, perhaps there may be a way to have the effects of items still occur even when sent into a backpack or inventory. It's been done with dynamite and hand storage, so perhaps it could with mandrakes or other unpocketable items?

It could encourage people to cheat, bluff their "ELO", basically ruin the game and add unwarranted stress for potential leaderboard moderators. More hassle than it's worth.

Also, how would a game like this have a ranking system to begin with? I don't see a possibility asides mountain climbed or time spent climbing - both easily fudgable or inaccurate to a player's actual skill level

Got DC'd last night while in the middle of a jump in Tropics
When the host reinvited me I was fired toward the shore like a gauss rifle pellet, ragdolling over all the terrain at hyper speed until I was a broken corpse lost at sea
My friend resurrected me at the top of Tropics and I was immediately railgunned forty kilometres back again
Happened again at the top of Alpine; this time the game cheerfully announced "Tropics" as I was respawning, and as I was blasted through the terrain it amended this to "Peak Day One" shortly before I ended up in a flickering icy torment nexus where I spun madly for a few minutes before freezing to death outside time and space
Got copious footage and hilarious screenshots
So pretty much the best night ever

Also as I was watching him progress while I was a ghost, I kept seeing items we had dropped or deployed in the previous run

So I guess I was a time traveler and time was trying to take me back

I've heard that it can have an effect but I don't know for sure. If you have an issue with voice chat, the recommended solution is to close peak and then re-open and rejoin
