Critical Stuff:
ā—PEAK will now ask you to pick your graphics API on startup. If you have experienced crashes or instability, we recommend switching from DX12 to Vulkan (or vice versa) as your first step to try.
ā—Added a framerate cap to the settings menu. This should be your second step to try!

Bug-Fixes:

PATCH 1.4.a

MAJOR FIXES:
Badge_FirstAid WE FIXED THE TROPICS CRASH on AMD hardware. It was just…the grass. For now, grass will be disabled but maybe in the future we can properly reintroduce it.
Badge_FirstAid Improved low framerate in the Caldera.
Badge_FirstAid The game will now default to a new fullscreen mode: ā€œFullscreen Windowedā€. This will hopefully fix issues where people aren’t seeing the cursor in Fullscreen Exclusive mode as well as issues when alt-tabbing.

PATCH 1.5.a

Hello Scouts! Small bug fix today, but ideally this will help user reports of random players joining your game - sorry about that!

Through default Steam settings, players can join your game by searching your Steam username and joining if you do not have the correct privacy settings enabled. For extra protection on how to do this:

Go to "View My Profile" > Edit Profile > Privacy Settings > Change to Friends Only (or Private).

We have pushed a fix to hopefully prevent players of bypassing this but please let us know if you still encounter problems!

Patch Notes v1.7

FINALLY. THE LANGUAGES PATCH. You can now play PEAK in WAY MORE LANGUAGES, so now you have no excuse for not learning Rule 0. We’re super thankful that everyone around the world has been playing the game even though it was just in English, but hopefully it's a better experience now. This is our language list for now but it doesn’t rule out the addition of more languages in the future.

Patch Notes v1.8

FEATURES:
šŸŽ¦ REDUCE CAMERA BOBBING OPTION - You can now go into the settings (ON THE MAIN MENU) to enable this option to reduce camera bobbing...

Please note that since this game is entirely physics-based, we had to do a workaround solution that’s not entirely perfect. Hopefully this is enough to make the game more playable for those with motion sickness, so please try it out and give us your feedback!

** NOTE**: This had bugs when toggled during gameplay in beta, so for now it is only accessible via the main menu.

Badge_Bugle Guidebook Scrolls now spawn in chronological order, no matter where you are on the mountain. This should make the Bookworm Badge significantly less exhausting to get. Also, they now have a chance to spawn every time you play, instead of being determined by the daily seed. Sorry to everyone who did it the hard way...

MAJOR FIXES:
Badge_Peak YOU NO LONGER WIN IF YOU DIE. So, literally the code that checked if players PEAKED just checked for whether or not you were past the PEAK on the forward axis. It did not check for whether you were alive. This will now prevent players from doing the thing where, by throwing themselves off the cliff or glitching into the void, they would mysteriously win the game.
Badge_Peak We've improved performance in the Caldera and Kiln. To folks noting the abnormally low framerate in these areas, please let us know if it's still happening. (We don't have access to a big variety of computer specs!)
Badge_Peak Total run time is now synced to the host’s time, making sure everyone either does or does not get the Speedrun achievement together.
Badge_Peak I saw a reddit post where one player got 1;00;00 and another got 1;00;01 and it made me sad.
Badge_Peak Fixed an issue where you could not reconnect properly from the top of the Alpine onwards.
Badge_Peak You can no longer get multiple ticks on you at once. See we're not that evil.
Badge_Peak The Napberry Plant should function properly again.
Badge_Peak Yet another potential fix for rare cases where the campfire was unable to be lit. Hopefully it really works this time.
Badge_Peak Further reduced the intensity of the explosive spore visual effect to hopefully fix crashes related to explosions. Please tell us if this still happens.
Badge_Peak Fixed an issue where the screen could turn black permanently if revived while swapping spectate targets.
Badge_Peak Fixed an issue where the chain launcher would sometimes spawn as a broken version that didn't launch a chain when used.

Badge_Peak Fixed an issue where, rarely, achievements might fail to trigger for no apparent reason.
Badge_Peak The Gourmand badge now properly requires the items to be cooked first before eating. Be careful!

Hey guys! Totally normal update to the game. Nothing to see here. Although I will mention that Polish and Turkish translations are in!!

Issues on our radar
We know some folks are experiencing issues with the game that this patch doesn't solve. Our ability to fix them heavily depends on our ability to reproduce them on our end, so detailed bug reports that include your hardware specs and graphics API are super useful. Your continued patience is appreciated <3

Below are just some of the issues we know about and we're working to solve:

  • Ongoing issues with the backpack. We've resolved some of the weird edge cases but seems like we haven't caught them all. For now, try not to stand too close to a wall while dropping it.
  • Alt-tabbing crashes the game. For now, default to Windowed Fullscreen instead of Exclusive Fullscreen.
  • Microphone issues.
  • Disconnect and rejoin issues.
  • General performance issues.

OPTIONS:
Badge_Bugle Polish and Turkish translations are in!
Badge_BugleNew Setting: "Climbing Extra Field Of View". This lets you adjust how the FOV changes while climbing.
Badge_BugleNew Setting: PUSH TO MUTE. This works the opposite way of "Push To Talk." No more having to listen to your streamer friend talk to chat.
Badge_BugleSettings that were previously hidden outside of the Main Menu will now show up but be disabled. Hopefully this reduces some confusion!

BALANCE CHANGES:
Badge_FirstAid Fixed an issue where Trail Mix, Granola Bar, Medicinal Root, and Airline Food would not give extra hunger reduction after cooked.
Badge_FirstAidFixed an issue where cooking something Well-Done and then stashing it would remove the buffs. For reference, the intended behavior is that Well-Done items give the same bonus as Cooked items. It's your warning before it burns :)
Badge_FirstAidRemedy Fungus now also cures poison in addition to injury, because it seems like it would.

MAJOR FIXES:
Badge_Peak We have a temporary solution to the FALL DAMAGE BUG where you would take a signifcant amount of fall damage when falling a short distance, often from spamming the climb and lunge buttons. A more comprehensive improvement will come in a later patch. Let us know if you still see any weird fall damage behavior!

Badge_Peak THE NAPBERRY PLANT IS TEMPORARILY DISABLED. Some folks were having issues with lag and crashes due to our implementation of the Napberry Plant. Trust me its a weird one. While we work on a better implementation asap, the Napberry Plant won't show up in the level.

Badge_Peak Performance at the PEAK is greatly improved. It was the dang wildflowers.

Badge_Peak Fixed an issue where an item would get stuck in your "Hands" Item Slot. This issue happens when the server can't keep up with items that are swapped too rapidly, so a tiny delay has been added after swapping items before you're able to pick up a new item.

MINOR FIXES:
Badge_Clutch You can no longer get the Bookworm Badge by simply reading the final page without the others.
Badge_ClutchFixed an issue where reading the guidebook pages out of order could result in inconsistent stat tracking for the Bookworm Badge.
Badge_ClutchRemoved an un-spatialized sound effect that would play when players landed from a fall.
Badge_ClutchFixed an issue where Ticks counted as berries toward the Foraging Badge, lol.
Badge_ClutchFixed an issue where an item in the temporary slot would display the wrong amount of Cooked.

**Glad you guys are enjoying eating each-other! Admittedly, it's a BIT much so now that you've all had your fun we're introducing some changes to cannibalism to just make it a little less crazy.

There's also a couple nice fixes for performance and crashes, and fall damage adjustments!**

Badge_Balloons Added an option called ā€œENABLE CANNIBALISMā€ which is on by default. For folks who don’t want to engage with this mechanic, simply turn it off at the Main Menu. By turning it off, you will no longer see other players become chickens or be able to eat them, and other players will not be allowed to see you as a chicken or eat you.

BALANCE

Badge_Bouldering Improved fall damage calculation while sliding to be more forgiving.
Badge_Bouldering Players will now become cannibals at 70% Hunger instead of 60%.
Badge_Bouldering Players will now take 10% Curse status upon cannibalising, up from 5%.

FIXES

Badge_FirstAid Fixed an issue where players would experience reduced performance ever since the last patch. It’s because the chicken model was always active on your body, just invisible…I'm a bad programmer sometimes ok?

The MESA is really hard.

Part of us says….good. suffer. But it does seem like it’s a bit unfair sometimes, so this patch is to adjust balance and fix bugs that are causing that!

PATCH 1.23.a NOTES:

IMPORTANT:
The lava rising in THE KILN has an issue where it is desynced across players. We've disabled this feature until we find a solution!

We are investigating the issue where some player’s screens turn green-tinted or black. If you have info on this, please let us know!

BALANCE:
Badge_Peak Tumbleweed damage and knockback has been made more consistent.
Badge_Peak Tumbleweeds now deal Thorns damage instead of Injury.
Badge_Peak Dynamite now spawns in luggage slightly less often.
Badge_Peak Scorpions will now deal less Poison damage depending on how close you already are to passing out.
Badge_Peak Scorpions will now require line-of-sight to aggro you.

Hey scouts!!

Back with another bugfix patch, this time to mainly address non-functional achievements.

Finally.....the game is good on Steam Deck.

Deck players will know it's been good for a while! The Mesa Update added the last of controller support needed and with this patch we've added some text adjustments needed to get the Verified badge.

BALANCE:
PEAK_Salute The Cure-All now cures some Thorns.

PEAK_Salute You can no longer put the Beehive or a lit Flare in the Backpack.

PEAK_Salute You now climb the Magic Beanstalk twice as fast to make it more useful when placed vertically.

PEAK_Salute NEW GRAPHICS SETTING: Texture QualityPEAK_Salute

This is actually huge. You can now lower the texture quality across the game, which is important for players with low VRAM. This can resolve issues with low framerate, missing graphics, and even crashes. Also it doesn’t even look much worse. Check it out!

NEW GRAPHICS API: DX11

The game can now be launched in DX11 in addition to our DX12 and Vulkan options. For players who have had trouble with our previous two options, give this a try. It might be better, it might be worse. We can’t really confirm which exact configurations of graphics cards this will work better with, but if it can improve it for some of you that’s fantastic!

Render Scale options are now more dramatic, you should see higher performance gains if you play on Medium or Low.

NEW ACCESSIBILITY SETTING: ✨ Photosensitive Mode. ✨
This mode changes the following:

Dynamite, Flare, and Scout Cannon lit fuse effects are less flashy
Screenshake is lessened
Bright lights from the dynamite explosion are disabled.
Fullscreen VFX from taking various sources of damage are less intense and more gradual.
Fullscreen VFX from the Energy Drink, Lollipop, and Heat Pack are less intense.

FEATURES
PEAK_Point You can now change your sash in the Passport to any you’ve unlocked via ascents.

MAPS
Badge_Beach The ALPINE and the MESA will now alternate every other day. When we patch and rotate the maps, you might still see two in a row. Keep in mind that if-and-when we add new replacement biomes, we’ll have to update this with a more sophisticated randomizer.
Badge_Beach A secret entrance in the MESA is now open 50% of the time instead of 25%. Feels fair considering the MESA itself is now open 50% of the time as well.
Badge_Beach The Lava Rises again in THE KILN. Admittedly, we didn't fix the issue with it--but since we weren't able to reproduce the issue on our end, we figured it would be helpful to put it back up and get more reports in. If the lava becomes desynced for you, please send us a video or logs!

BALANCE
PEAK_Wait Wait time until the lava rises increased by 1 minute.
PEAK_Wait The time for the lava to reach the top once it starts is increased by 3 minutes.

Scouts! We have yet another little update for you. This one adds the much requested Color Blindness Mode as well as some bugfixes and balance.

Hey Scouts! Just a normal little patch today for you guys. In addition to bugfixes we've re-enabled lava rising and made a few improvements to rebindable controls.

Also it's been hilarious seeing all your posts on socials playing the new update!! Keep on dilly dallying!!!

PATCH NOTES

FEATURES:
PEAK_Salute Re-enabled Lava rising in The Kiln. If it still doesn't work that's really embarrassing for us. But we put it on the beta branch and you guys didn't say it was broken so it'll be embarrassing for you too!!

SETTINGS
PEAK_BingBong Added a "Jump to Grab Wall" option in General Settings that is on by default. Currently when you're midair you can press Jump to grab the wall in addition to the Climb button. Some players expressed not loving it so we're adding an option to disable it.

PEAK_BingBong You can now rebind to the Enter, Caps Lock, and Backspace keys.

PEAK_BingBong The Tab key is now properly bound to Stash Item and can be rebinded (rebound? idk).

LEGENDARY FIXES

Hotfix 1.42.a (Zombie Nerf)

ALRIGHT, what a day. Hope you've been enjoying the ROOTS! <@&1408257609080901752>

We'll be continuing to balance things during the coming days, but the big immediate thing on our radar is tweaking the zombies' stats. We want them to feel properly terrifying for, well, a zombie, but they're clearly feeling like too much of a constant run-ender in the area and deserve to be nerfed a bit and show up significantly less often.

But to those being mean, yes, we did playtest the zombies. I guess the playtesters were just too good at the game PEAK_Eyebrows

Balance Changes

  • Removed zombies entirely from Tenderfoot difficulty.
  • Significantly reduced the number of zombie spawn points on the map.
  • Slightly reduced zombie walk and sprint speed.
  • Increased the amount of time a zombie will take to recover after a lunge.
  • Reduced the radius at which a sleeping zombie will wake up and begin chasing the player.
  • Reduced the distance at which a zombie will go from a walk to a sprint.
  • BUT, zombies will now attack skeletonized players. Good luck!

Minor Fixes

  • Fixed faulty text on the Applied Esoterica Badge.

Hey scouts! <@&1408257609080901752> Another round of small changes and fixes. We're continuing to look at feedback and bug reports for the ROOTS update so keep it coming and have a fantastic, zombie-filled weekend!

BALANCE CHANGES

  • If scouts have been infected by enough spores, your death timer still decays when carried. So, they can now turn into zombies while being carried by another scout!! Good luck!!

  • Added a tell on the Death Bar for knowing when a player has enough spores to become a zombie,

  • Zombies will now recalculate their aggro target and begin chasing the closest player every ~10 seconds.

MAJOR FIXES

  • Fixed a bug where throwing a Cursed Skull in the lava would crash the game.

  • Fixed missing root collision on redwood stumps.

  • Fixed an issue where you would jump unnaturally high on mushrooms if falling with a parasol,

  • Player-specific audio sliders will now properly save their settings after a player disconnects and reconnects.

  • Fixed an issue where a player's zombie could bite you on the first frame they turned into a zombie.,

  • Re-allowed the Scout Cannon Glitch but only with the backpack.

Look, let's talk about this. We removed the glitch and you know why? It was never really a glitch. Cannons are supposed to shoot items with a force of 30. For some reason we typed in 5000 instead. It was literally just shooting them at Mach 10 for no reason. As a game developer it would hurt me not to just fix that. But hey we're reasonable. We know you want to skip the whole level for some reason. Great. This is our compromise. Only the backpack will still shoot with a velocity of 5000. Let's never speak of this again.

MINOR FIXES

  • The Cursed Skull and Book of Bones ambient sfx are now muted when in the backpack.

  • Fixed a typo in the description of Applied Esoterica Badge.

  • Fixed Mandrake scream volume not being affected by the SFX slider,

  • Fixed rare cases where the Mandrake wouldn't stop screaming even when far away.

  • Fixed an issue where the extra stamina bar wouldn't update if you only had a sliver of extra stamina remaining

Hey Scouts! The Roots weeks are almost over, and soon Tropics will be back in rotation from November 17th pst! In the meantime, we've got a big variety of bugfixes and optimizations for ya:

BALANCE/GAMEPLAY CHANGES

  • The death timer now still ticks down even when carried by another scout if you have enough spores to become a zombie. Good luck...
  • We're buffing the Scout Cannon!

Scout Cannons can launch zombies now.
Scout Cannon weight reduced 6 -> 4
Scout Cannon forced ragdoll time reduced 2-> 1
Made the Scout Cannon slightly easier to jump out of.

  • You will now be able to walk in the Caldera lava if you are invincible.
  • Removed the ability to fly if you have the wind walking ability from a Shroomberry and one balloon. You now need at least three balloons.
  • Lava will no longer cook items that are being held in your hands. (This was getting a little too crazy now that several more items blow up when cooked)

MAJOR FIXES

  • ā€¼ļø Okay, so this is pretty embarrassing. Turns out, gamepad sensitivity has been dependent on user framerate since we originally launched the game. (Remember how this was a game jam...?) That's fixed now, but because of that, If you play on gamepad, there's a good chance your look sensitivity will have changed when you next open the game and you'll need to tweak it a bit.
  • Removed the prompts to swap your spectate target if your character is unconscious but not fully dead.
  • Fixed visual issues relating to using the Book of Bones with the Third Eye accessory equipped.
    -Fixed visual issues on the player ghost when the Third Eye accessory is equipped.
  • The Checkpoint Flag now respawns scouts slightly above the ground to reduce clipping/physics issues upon respawning.
  • Fixed an issue where zombie footsteps would play from the wrong position.
  • Fixed an issue caused by the cooking update where dynamite would create two explosions.

MINOR FIXES
-Fixed an issue where scouts in a ragdoll state would bounce off mushrooms way too high.

  • Fixed an issue where the campfires would no longer burn players.
  • Fixed shroomberries spawning on the wrong side of the vine.
  • Fixed players not being able to grab a piton while hanging from a vine.
  • Fixed an issue where holding the Ancient Idol while having thorns stuck on you could cause erratic stuff to happen to your status bar.
  • Fixed an issue where a spawn point could spawn a zombie more than once if an old one died, resulting in some comedic infinite spawns if the spawned zombie ragdolled off a cliff.
  • Fixed an issue where a frisbee that landed in the water would still be considered "in flight" for purposes of the Ultimate Badge.
  • The Emote wheel can no longer be accessed as a ghost.
  • Fixed an issue where you would take increased fall damage if your wind walking from a Shroomberry expired while in midair.
  • Dynamite explosions slightly more optimized.

  • The Tropics are back in the rotation. We now have a new map rotation algorithm instead of just swapping between MESA and ALPINE every other day:
  • The map cannot be the same exact configuration two days in a row.
  • You will never see the same biome three days in a row.
  • The Roots now has biome variants. You know how sometimes the tropics is freaky and full of more bombs than usual? We did a pass like that to the Roots.

BALANCE CHANGES

  • Fortified Milk has gone from an Uncommon to a Rare loot.
  • Beetles knock you slightly less far and put you in ragdoll state for less time, making it less likely they stunlock you.

BUGFIXES

  • Fixed an issue where players could still become zombies in Tenderfoot, despite zombies not spawning in the world.

MAJOR FIXES

  • Players playing in Offline Mode will now most likely get the same map rotation as they would if they were playing online (based on their local system clock)
  • Quitting from the pause menu during end-game credits will no longer break your game.
  • Fixed an issue where unpocketable items (Mandrakes, Scorpions, etc) could be pocketed while climbing under certain circumstances.
  • Fixed an issue where pressing the Sprint input on controller while sprinting would not end the sprint.

MINOR FIXES

  • Fixed an issue where cooking Fortified Milk multiple times without putting it away would continue to stack the amount of invincibility it gave you.
  • Fixed an issue where lava pools would not damage you unless you were over halfway submerged in them (careful!)

FIXES:

  • Climbing on vines and chains should do less Weird Stuff if the game lags

For a long time we've had an issue where, on rare occasion, a chain launcher could fire a chain that was so buggy that it would crash entire runs. We've dragged our feet on a fix for this because unfortunately neither us nor our QA team have been able to reproduce the issue. This patch introduces a bunch of refactor work to the chains and vines that we THINK will fix the bug, but if it still happens to you, please reach out at support@aggrocrab.com or on discord.

This also makes vine/chain climbing framerate-independent, because we realized it wasn't. That means this WHOLE time, the speed at which you climbed chains and vines was dependent on your FPS. This is a cardinal sin for any game developer and very embarrassing for us. points at sign reminding that this whole game was originally a 1 month game jam

You may notice that you go really fast on the vines, we hope to balance it better but just wanted to get this fix out!

  • The "rope storage" exploit has been brought back. Real PEAK heads will know what this means. Sorry, sometimes we just see a bug and we fix it, and then only after the fact realize the community wants us to leave it in. In this case, we're happy to! See? We listen!!

  • The Statue has been added to the Shore.

HUGE FIXES

  • The airport and most of the mountain should no longer disappear when using DirectX12 with an integrated graphics card.

MAJOR FIXES

  • Beetles and scorpions will no longer attempt to DDoS non-host players by sending 1 million data over the network.
  • Dynamite should be less likely to blow up a player's entire computer when it goes off.
  • Fixed a bug where controller players' inventory would sometimes be unresponsive after dropping an item.
  • Beetles shouldn't be able to stunlock and juggle a single player any more.

Player Kicking

Hosts will now see a little boot next to each audio slider in the pause menu. Clicking this boot will remove the indicated player from the current game. Kicked players will not be able to re-join a game they have been kicked from. The only way to "un-kick" a player is to start a new game from the main menu. Banlists reset every time a new game session starts

Mid-run Connect/Reconnect Overhaul

scoutsalute If a player connects to a game in a state that would normally cause them to spawn as a ghost, we now check if the scouts already in the game are close to a campfire with a used scout statue. If the scout statue was used to revive other scouts, the connecting player will get revived as well

scoutsalute Scouts should be less likely to spawn/revive with a broken ragdoll.

scoutsalute Reviving players will no longer send a bunch of network spam while respawning

scoutsalute Players connecting at the final campfire should no longer get stuck behind the fog wall

Misc. Fixes

Heya scouts! Here's the biweekly patch adding more maps into rotation (that's why the patch is so big, they're full of maps, so stop asking). We also tightened up the lobby security and fixed the invisible player issue etc! PEAK_Salute

As we mentioned in our holiday post, it will take a while between bigger updates. The next one we're working on right now focuses on some requested features, but there won't be another biome until later this year PEAK_BingBong

Patch 1.60.D (Friendship Restored)

Sorry about that, everyone! I don't know what came over me. I forgot Rule 0 for a moment and thought it was acceptable to kick your friends off a cliff to their death. Let's move it to the Custom Run menu and forget this ever happened.

  • Moved the new "Kick" feature to the "Stupid Stuff" section in Custom Runs.

  • Added the ability to turn off Scorpions in Custom Runs. Not sure how we missed that one.

  • Fixed an issue where the new "chill campfires" would not properly prevent the lava from rising in The Kiln.

  • Fixed an issue where the completed Ascent (as well as the player's highest completed Ascent) could display the wrong value and/or sash color.

  • Marshmallows will no longer spawn at the start of a Mini Run.

Hey Scouts! Got some patches that should help with stability and commonly reported bugs.

Patch Notes 1.61.a:

  • Campfire saves will now correctly save the state of spawned items around the campfire, such as marshmallows.

NOTE: This refers to items that spawned there naturally! Restoring the state of items that have been dropped on the ground by players is NOT part of this feature! Make sure everything you need is in your pockets before disconnecting!

  • Fixed some cases where the scout report would draw off-screen

  • Scout report now plays back at constant speed regardless of how long a run took

  • Fixed an issue where loading a campfire save could give you certain unearned badges related to previous biomes (such as the Tread Lightly Badge

  • Made some performance improvements related to disabling unneeded code when items are inert on the ground

  • Fixed bug where Ascent 5+ players loading from save or connecting to an ongoing run would get cold in the Caldera

  • We had to make some structural changes to the campfire saves, so your old save is gonna get deleted when you first launch this update. Sorry about that! Ideally this will happen less in the future outside of major updates.
