Hunger shouldn't be too big of a problem in the kiln as long as you're maintaining a reasonable pace.

The wiki is only a starting point. In a mushroom spot, the mushrooms have a chance to not spawn, so the wiki is usually slightly inaccurate.
Only the first two biomes can spawn them, so play tenderfoot, scour them both and retry if you reach tropics fire
