I think that'd be a great idea to provide a framework for mods to be able to link to their wiki. They just have to go through the steam community link unfortunately
Oh i understand what's happened. The ID for Fast Metabolism is WeightLoss which is a banned term on the wiki for spam
@digital helm @languid kayak Can you guys override the spam filter or we'll have to let Kirrus know
We'll have to send to Kirrus :/
I like the idea
Nop
This one was on my mind, but both seems a good idea?
Now that you brought the latter, maybe having a "Wiki That!" button in this or vehicle mainteneance isn't such a bad idea too?
sure, but you'd have to link to their wiki, since none are hosted. I even through of linking to mod project pages, but that'd be so cherry-picked so yeah.
As you know, I wasn't opposing using PZwiki to host mods, but we all remember excluding weapon tables from brita's mod, the only mod was hydrocraft and in poor shape 😄
I think some might utlize GitHub wiki functionality? But even is so, very sparesely
why is "WeightLoss" out of all words banned on the wiki?
Scams
Scamming, like people running some fake promotion for their weight loss product or something?
Just automated spam bots. Weight loss / Crypto / Gambling are the most common types
ohh lmao
Idk about that UI, I'd have to check out if there's place. Could just lead to the main animal page too
(Meant to respond to the one above)
The B41 bug that caused moodles/traits to reduce weapon damage, intended only for melee attacks, has was fixed (B42.0.0). Character pain, weight traits, panic level, stress level, or any other character moodle no longer affect base ranged weapon damage.
It also doesn't affect melee damage anymore either- is that intentional?
As far as I am aware, none of the melee calculations were affected by the ranged weapon fix....nor do I recall any design discussions concerning updating melee damage calculations.
If you suspect a bug where melee weapons are not being influenced by moodles, please submit a detailed bug report in the Project Zomboid → Bug Reports forum on The Indie Stone website:
https://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php?/forum/85-bug-reports/
Bugs go here. Please save us the time to translate all the posts in different languages and post them in English instead.
will do
mhh small question on pzwiki 41 vs 42 coverage, whats the strategy there? Some pages represent the 41 state others track 42 🙂 cheers!
Pages are getting updated to B42
And there's old ref to the B41 past versions
So like sections per page, one for older, one for new version?
We are making our way through all 12,000 B41 articles and updating them to B42 + adding new articles for B42 related game mechanics
No B41 pages get replaced with B42
And old page versions for B41 get linked at the top of the B42 pages when present
So its not like there will be a date where everything gets flipped but we replace gradually. Thinking of pages like https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Outfit where there is now the clothing.xml in b42 etc.
e.g. If I wanted to help and make an updated revision for build 42 that would be a welcomed thing and not something that disrupts 🙂 thats my question basically
No it wouldn't be possible to do something like that.
The outfits page specifically we have some scripts to help with but they havnt been updated to B42 yet so yes it would be helpful.
We had clothing.xml before too, that's the file we parsed to make this page
Cool. Not saying that would be even desirable to "flip". And it mentions the Outfits.xml thats just what I stumbled over.
So if I wanted to help, other than consulting https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Help:Editing_for_beginners I do need an account with mediawiki? some other onboarding or permissions to request from someone?
edit: nevermind, I see the signup
Just an account on PZwiki, feel free to ask for help here too
Java
Help
Hi, I think I’ve encountered a bug in Build 42.12.
While testing the garage area, I accidentally walked inside a chicken hutch and now my character is stuck inside. I can’t move out, dismantle, or climb over it, and relogging doesn’t help.
Is this a known glitch? Is there any workaround to get unstuck without removing the whole save file?
Wrong channel but

I got stuck inside the hutch, but I managed to solve it using the -debug command. Teleport worked perfectly.
Ok historytable is now updated to the new collapsible style, and can now be used directly in a togglebox. This will make multi-ID pages better and help us consolidate articles. I believe it was the last major template blocking this.
Articles with 2 or more history tables should now go into a togglebox
Actually it's probably ok up to 3 or so
That's much cleaner

What's a read only replica ?
A clone of the wiki that cant be edited
Why would we even do that ?
This is going to duplicate information and create information clashes
I especially do not want to see that in action for modding which is a constantly growing resource
So I'm very curious what the intention here is
Reload in debug and delete the object
2 Websites. The wiki begins updating to B43 as soon as unstable releases. The cloned website is an exact copy of the wiki the day before B43 releases. People staying on B42 can use the B42 website without the issues that have come of the current method (particularly templates). It's read only, and on a different domain (e.g. b42.pzwiki.net), means no maintenance burden for us, and people dont have to complain about us updating the wiki
Wouldn't effect editors at all
Aaah for game releases ok I see
Great work!
Smart thinking!
So a mirror
Technically, I'm not sure if it's feasible. Still having trouble creating a clone for testing/update purposes, mediawiki really really doesn't want to operate on any other domain than the main one
Mediawiki: the king of hardcoding and legacy code
Surprised it doesn't run on COBOL for what it's worth
Miraheze figured it out somehow
Something to find out in the future. The main goal is that we have more time to plan for the next one. We were hardly at B41 this time
I guess figuring that out for testing would pave a good base for the future B43, but yeah, we have time, as it's still B42 being unstable at this moment with long time to B43 🙂
Guys, when I was listening to Zomboid radio brainrot, it seems the West Point Gun Range & Hunting Center advertisement was changed to be for Irvington Gun Club
ive pointed it out a while ago
like it was in 42.8 or something
That's like when the old WP gun shop became Stendo's right?
No, it was before that iirc
I could be just making this up, but I'm pretty sure that change was in 42.5
Someone had fun writing the item lists for barns
General questions are better asked in #pz_b42_chat
woops, i know better than that, just put my question in wrong place
Does the wiki document if garage doors ever have keys is the real question here....
maybe the true garage door keys were the friends we made along the way ... /joke
Isn't it that if the garage is the same building, the general key works? Not sure, but I think it was like that?
But is it documented...
Users should be able to understand that keys work on all types of doors
Right?
Ah yes
soda
@naive imp thats why you have to manually check every building before writing about it
I think Ill gather one large report on every wrong building loot
soon™
Where is this location at
Just out of curiosity
But like
its most of the buildings and facilities that were added
in b42
did you know that airport has no loot?
My fucking game crashed
this laptop sucks
hang on
Ah yes, alienware
And no I did not know that
Ngl got a Lil burnt out, on a hiatus atm
I wonder when they'll fix it or if they have more important stuff to work on atm
Im thinking the latter for now
Oh did you get rid of the Alienware one
got downgraded because i aint hauling that beast to another country
I have a nitro 5 myself runs the game fine
Ive left it for now
shit would only fit in a baggage
technically i would be allowed to move it like that, since it has no battery
but I need at least semi working off battery laptop
so brought refurbished nitro 3 from sister
only 12 gb of ram
I have an old Chromebook I got for school a while ago thats my mobile rig
But I dont do much other than browser based stuff off it yeah
I was gonna upgrade my ram but corporate decided to FIRE me so yeah
Im at 16 I wanted 32gb
You didn't take the sticks out before you left? Or was motherboard incompatible
just putted off removing ram till it was too late
12 was also not stock, I had upgraded alienware with 16 gig stick, putting 4 gig one it had into this laptop
ill try to do it once i visit homeland on christmas again
so anyway
You'd think it had something interesting in contraband loot
Smuggling planes
Idk
but nope
They'll probably expand it later
i mean, knives, batteries, guns
tools, shanks
or something
but nope
its all metal_shelves
Would be neat if there was like a prisoner escape plan where there was like a getaway plane or smth
In fact it is the only loot in the airport
i guess its better than no loot
and thats basically the same for almost every factory in the game
which frankly who cares but us, nerds
What the programmrs and designers think
(never works out)
is it reported? If so, it probably should. They also look for https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Category:Articles_with_known_bugs but I didn't check them up to 42.12.0/1 yet (I think all the ones with dupe entries should be fixed in 42.12.0)
It's win11?
||coughLinuxcough||
is it intel IGPU btw? Also swap would probably help if the ram is an issue? Especially if it's running of semi-fast nvme
but later in line some time
its 7th gen i5
with gtx 1050
PZ is OpenGL and I know intel had issues with OpenGL... Though they also said that AMD had issues too 🤔
ah, so nvidia then
so I guess drivers aren't the issues then
@thin cloud Im curious, is Citr-8 Wave a brand of soft drink(that doesnt exist yet), or soft drink manufacturer?
Something like Coca cola, that both produces drinks with the same name, but also has Fanta, Piko and such
Updated
Think I retroactively made it the Orange Soda in lore but not reflected anywhere (not even the bottles)
I need to find a proper way of tracking things that were tested, with version markers of when this was tested
The talk page might be enough tho I'm not familiar with those, and it wouldn't really be about talking I guess but more of providing a list of things tested ?
I think a mbox would be fitting, similar to the bug box mbox I had made
What would be the proper way to handle this in the wiki ?
And if in a talk discussion, can we link specific "messages" from the talk discussion to serve as a marker of things tested, which I can easily link on the page ?
Maybe the mbox itself should be the tracker
So you can collapse it, and have most recent updated checks, maybe old checks too
The talk page is usually the place for adding infromation used to verify. You can then add a reference to the article which links to the talk page. The same way you'd reference external sources
Talk pages are very similar to normal pages. You can link to sections just the same, or even use the id html attribute if you don't want a section
But do you have examples of this being used this way ?
For links it's just, e.g., [[Talk:Moodle#Anxiety|Anxiety]]
To use id, it's just something like <span id="example">This is an example</span> then link to it as if it were a section [[Talk:Page#example|example link]]
id may be best to be part of a template. But if used in the talk page, doesn't really matter
I'd think mbox would be more fitting indeed
I'm looking to start re-merging items now that history has been updated. Items should be on the page they are named as without good reason otherwise. Crafting and loot will be updated once more pages have been merged, so for a short time they will only show crafting and loot for the first item_id in the infobox.
Verifying stuff listed in https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Category:Articles_to_be_split and https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Category:Articles_to_be_merged would be a good start
Ahh i made my own list of articles that need merging based off of item names
Will do those first and see what is left
Yeah, I just left this off as I wasn't sure what is the rule of merging and not 😄
Didn't want to waste my time dealing with them, but left the ones I thought may be sane, but I left them to your judgement (item wise)
@proud cobalt it seems there's a bunch of items that incorrectly got "Food" section, it's just they weren't picked up 🤔
I'm updating https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Help:Editing_for_beginners now, do you think listing difficulities (Easy and Medium for creating a page) is of any value? Pretty much all is "Easy" and the only thing we label as "Medium" is said (twice) that it's labeled medium only because reasons. I think it may only add more noise needlessly
How do crit chances work? Like let's take the crowbar with a 20% crit chance, if I max out long blunt for a 30% crit chance increase, is it additive with the 20% to make 50%? Or something else? Does the -5.2% crit chance from extreme panic also work this way?
I ran a search, looks like there were 4 more. Must have accidently clicked a wrong button when i was doing usage, from the looks of it the clothing button must have been pretty close to the food button lol. Should be all fixed now
I think remove them, only serves to scare off new users
General questions are better asked in #pz_b42_chat or #pz_b41_chat based on your game version
@naive imp heads up when you add new uses of TT to a template you have to add the new arg1 to the translation list, and to the language subpages or it'll cause a bunch of errors.
https://pzwiki.net/w/index.php?title=Template:Navbox_locations&diff=prev&oldid=1222275
https://pzwiki.net/w/index.php?title=Template:Navbox_locations/tr&diff=prev&oldid=1222271
Yeah, best to not add it unless you do. Especially if it's a WIP. More info here #pzwiki_editing message
Yes, happy to remove
Hmm trying to improve the styling of the infobox for modding projects so it fits the rest of the wiki
But the template Infobox/socials I had made doesn't properly adjust to not be of the color blue
Preferably it should be like Infobox/row
I suppose there's no better way to handle that ?
Bcs editing this shit is not going to be fun 💀
That'd do it 😄
Yea I changed it to a custom one which has the same styling
Just without the whole background thing, so now it has same font size, bold, and center
Very nice
So I'm going to work on video guides for PZ modding
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Mod_structure#Video_guide
I found a logic problem in the Page version template
If there's a B41 version of the page, it stays uncollapsed and doesn't show that a B41 version exists
Also I was just thinking, can we not completely change the style of showing the info by just having a massive big button for the B41 version like on the right side of the template or something like that ?
Or directly under the icon for the mbox
Because it has been clear from the start that our problem with showing the B41 version is that it is not visible
Then fuck it, go around it and completely change the whole styling the template ? Instead of trying to follow the style of the mbox with icon then text explaining stuff, just add a massive button to it
idk something like that
Ok so I was checking the wiki and got a question about a certain page
It says awl, does this mean you can use twine to make thread?
Asking for wilderness run
An Awl is a tool
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Awl_(tag)
No yes duh but I mean
Is there any other recipe for thread that doesnt include whats on the wiki?
Also I'm not sure why but theres no level "none" of carving here
No. these are the three recipes with thread as the output
But I couldve sworn there were stuff with requirement carving: none
Oh wait what I cant filter none on it
Huh strange nvm
I updated the skill page list, and you can now sort so that none shows. These are the recipes that give carving xp but dont require skills
tysm ❤️
thats gonna save alot of my time on my wilderness runs
Btw can you still forage that "the wilderness" thing?
Lemme show wait
Is this still possible to obtain with foraging?
Aight also is it true that using focus "trash" can increase those odds?
General questions are better asked in #pz_b42_chat
Ye I asked there but I ask here cuz I looked at wiki and it didnt explain what the focuses increases odds specifically
They said it should because magazines count as junk thus count as trash
that's probably the answer than, this channel is more for discussion changes on the wiki itself
Aight ill let you know if I run into unedited pages that I prob need and ill give the info I know
But thatll be in like 6 hours if my friend isnt playing
But still ty for the help
Feel free to add it yourself we would appreciate it, most of us have projects and focuses we're already working on so wont get to anything new any time soon. We have help guides to get you started and can help with questions about editing.
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Help:Contents
Nah I'm good I already got a wiki I'm working on with a team 😭
There are magazines in the trash focus category https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Trash_(foraging)
The focus increases the chance to find items in each of these foraging categories
WAIT THERES A SECTION FOR THIS?
😮
Tysm bro
It's at the top of the foraging page 😆
Not all of them can be focused, and are 'hidden' categories
Not sure what you mean here
Well how do you obtain it
Someone has to find out and add it
...isnt it from crushing rocks?
Also like something to do with "it doesnt naturally spawn except if you spawn it in?"
There's a lot of pages like that. We rely on people adding it when they find out
hello i organized a table for the foraging zones. there are so many types of forest now i thought it would be handy to know how rare what type of item is in each one
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lk8wImzMfKvzl7LrhoIFdy2uJ-gli3qFwi5JeXkIUL8/edit?usp=sharing
i was foraging and i got curious about the differences in the zones so i poped on debug mode and teleported around on another file, took screenies and went from there
Github
😄
What do these tables mean?
Trash on road is common? 😮
Now I’m looking at Hemp Dogbane, which has foraging information that I think I can interpret. It’s not all clear, though.
Amount is self-explanatory (how many do you find when you find it?)
Skill level (maybe the Foraging level you need to find it?)
Biome: chance (something to do with relative chance to find it in relation to different biomes but the numbers are inscrutable)
Weather modifiers (reductions by… percentage? Other?)
Available (no idea)
Month bonus, malus (a positive or negative modifier but how much?)
Ups
What numbers do you use for each category? E.g. what is 'rare' vs 'extremely rare' vs 'normal'
No numbers these are the values you are told in the foraging menu when u mouse over it
Skill level for foraging
Chance is a made up number by the game, that's the hardest part to convey
Weather modifiers are percent they have a percent symbol
Available is under the months header, it is the months you can forage for it
I'll add some flavour text to the foraging section
Oh we have the numbers but not sure how that game interperates the numbers into that
oh interesting
they are all 15 tho
so if the numbers are this then the text could be inaccurate
or misleading
ah i was looking at the wrong spot sorry
The numbers for the category are different to the individual items, i'm not sure how that works. @digital helm might know more
im glad u linked this, i made this sheet cause i couldnt find information about the new foraging zones
i wanted to quickly see the differences between them at a glance
(nerd reasons)
Vail made all the foraging category pages, it lists what can be found for each section, can navigate between sections using the navbar at the top
thats really sick thank you for sharing
if i gather and organize any more things ill be sure to share here. i have fun doing it
That would be good, the main foraging page still needs complete updating to B42, so if you're a bit of an expert (or nerd) in foraging we'd appreciate if you looked at updating it too. We can help you with the technical side of actually editing
alrighty i keep my eyes peeled as i play and try to compare what i find to this page and see if anything has changed
More flavour text—or just explanatory text—would be awesome. I think part of the issue is that I was looking at a lot of trash/rare items and they all seemed to be the same, with nothing in most of the columns and 1 after every biome. I couldn’t tell if that was just the default template or actual data.
What's acidic forest
<@&671452400221159444>
A biome
🤨
just another biome for foraging drops
me too when I first read it
There just for 2 different points in the logic. First the category is chosen at random, then the item is chosen at random.
Are these linked to the main foraging page btw?
Cuz I didnt see them there or I'm blind
Yes at the top
@flint vapor The page dictionary has been updated, there's been some significant changes so might be worth a bump to the mod.
Changes in what item ids are on what page, i should add
Tysm
Alright
I'll do that
I'm looking into the moodle support, it's not easy
Are mods limited to Lua
Wdym ?
Technically no, practically yes
That's fair, i was thinking more about lua/java. I thought it was pretty clear that those were available
Every java mod i've seen has required copying and overwriting the class files manually, as opposed to one click install from steam workshop. I have used one before to modify the game camera though
Requires manual install
See the Java page
There's a few cases of mods where you don't need manual install
There's a NPC mod which needs you to modify a bit more things so you receive auto updates
Basically makes the game load its Java files
There's Leaf, a project that now is a bit paused
And there's also Puzzle that I need to make a wiki page for, and actually learn what it is about
Java agents
A unified mod loader
ASM (or mixins if you're schizo)
It's possible... But maybe not that demanded
Java mods have historically not been supported by mods. But maybe things have changed? Most support is Lua
Mods, I mean Devs *
Mixing is used for Leaf
It's mostly a question of creating a proper Java mod manager
That's why Leaf was promissing
But sadly it's a solo dev, who is less and less interested in PZ
Me and pzwiki
I'll always take pride in ReLookup even if it was slop
Good thing half the wiki is automated now
I hate manual labor, I'd rather automate something again 💔
Btw I think in build 41 this is fasle
false*
Cuz I'm getting 13xp every pushup
No xp boost btw
Or actually it ranges between 13xp and 6xp
The page is for B42 ?
Actually not really, it wasn't really updated since b41 too
Was about to catalogue the https://pzwiki.net/wiki/File:St_peregrin_heatofthenight.png – do we have any category for these @digital helm?
I don't think we do. I think we held off on uploading any of the loading screens
I briefly remember that, yeah. OTOH I think they still provice some possible lore info, even if won't be used any longer? This one for example was used in blogs and I think it's still there?
I agree. Worth documenting them. Things were just a bit heated back then 😅
Hey I uploaded that
yup 🙂
nice! Can you make it so each moodle stage goes to #Section automatically?
Maybe I'll check it out later
Meanwhile had time to do that
ignore the out of shape one bugging, I think it's because there's spaces in the name 💀
neat!
Both are really nice, I'll definitely be using them
Working on outfits, they're gonna be a little messed up while i sort it out
Really nice work with both!
Missing ID for Fast Metabolism:
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Fast_Metabolism
I'll add it
??????????????????????????????????????????????
@languid kayak @proud cobalt @digital helm
WeightLoss
It's in the spam filter #pzwiki_editing message I'll send to Kirrus now
I think admins can bypass filter? I'll check
Completely forgot we had already talked about that
I think we missed passing it along too
nah, it's the same even for us admins, so yeah, Kirrus has to do that
Would you be able to do this still? I'm up to the screenshots part. I can handle all the editing / cleanup
Also surely this background can be changed to a solid colour for chroma keying
I can try to look into it yea
That would be a big help thanks. I know this mod made changes to the outfit screen so might be a good reference. B41 though
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2020740322&searchtext=fashion
ew
Yea don't worry I already know how most of these work or how it's handled
But basically you have a UI element where you give character informations and it renders the character in specific ways
You can do a looooot of stuff with this pannel
And either way, I know where to look for to learn how to use that
Sounds good
All i need is it to go through all the default outfits and take a screenshot as large as possible. Preferrably with a solid background
Oh and if it could save with the name of the outfit, that would be even better
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3567109091
1.5.0
Added:
- Moodles support: right click a moodle on the HUD to open a context menu to access wiki pages of moodles
- Ability to right click traits in the in-game character menu
Updated:
- Pages dictionary (page indexes, new pages, moved pages etc.)
- Complete reorganization of the files. This means old files will still be present in your installation, but I support it by making those old files empty. In the future, I will remove those old files completely, going with the supposition that everyone updated to the new version. Preferably, do a fresh install of the mod.
- Improved context menu system to use a custom context menu class, should make it easier to render fresh custom context menus
Fixed:
- Tile and crop text in the Wiki That tooltip
- Removed cache system for WikiElement as it was causing issues and was not really needed
@naive imp You'll be happy to know
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Game_Pieces
<@&1205891296565268520> New update to Wiki That! with moodle support. Check it out #pzwiki_editing message
Remove this ping in id:customize
wait, those things are called moodles and not moodlets?
learn somethin new everyday, here I was sitting thinking how a zomboid mod could support a learning managment system
by the way, you can safely remove old files by just moving to a later version folder: i recommend doing this because even the empty files will cause checksum mismatch if you remove them
im glad the wiki is being paid attention to. It's extremely outdated in so many ways and lack details
it's been as expansive and accurate as ever for a long while
I wish it was and yeah im glad they're working on it 🫶
Wikis are a community effort, if you see something incorrect, fix it
AFTER ALL THIS TIME
FINALLY
Lmao
Thanks for all the work you do to items @proud cobalt
Seriously
And you for locations
@lucid junco for that too
I've been on a hiatus lately, just kinda burned out a bit
But I plan to be back either this week or the next
oof I wish I could say when I'm back on the wiki
I'm like
sinking in coursework and stuff
Dw the zombies article will be waiting for you when you get back.
Focus on your coursework though
Lots of new links to random stories with the outfits being done
That's smart
That's a good idea
<@&671452400221159444>
The little toggle arrow (seen on mboxes and infoboxes) changed to a chevron rather than ◥ to better match the rest of the wiki.
Please let me know if any graphical weirdness
Looks good
.
<@&671452400221159444>
I'm remaking the deleted Doe Valley Forest page, this time with more info/content
I think numerous POIs listed under "Doe Valley" should be broken off into "Doe Valley Forest"
Like the KY-60 gun store, Mad Dan Den, Meadshire, Coalfield, Deerhead Lake
Personally my own definition of the western side of "Doe Valley" is where the farmlands, plains, and grasslands stop and become forests
Oh yeah, also redone Doe Valley Lake https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Doe_Valley_Lake
haha I would do it
but I would patch a lua file or a class file instead of making a mod
Making a mod means we can easily change anything. We can do it with mods
which is exactly why im not gonna do it
patching is so much more fun
no boilerplate required
pure skill
that reminds me I should download the game onto my laptop
Yea but you can't share it then lmao
You still need it right ?
I'm going to look into it
Ok that's amazing, I can take screenshots and name them with specific filenames
So you just have to give me a filename pattern that you want to use, which will hold the outfit name, and also maybe male or female in the name too, and I can output you in-game screenshots of such a character UI with the files named as you need
I'm going to look into that UI element to try to have a proper UI for the screenshots
But this means with a simple python script we can cut the images around the character, for every screenshots for every outfits
It does stutter the game a tiny bit when taking the screenshot, but nothing too impressive
Ok I guess this is the pattern you want
@proud cobalt oh boy I got really good news for you
We can literally greenscreen the fucking character LMAO
Just need to add a timer to give time to the character to properly render
Also it's very interesting that I don't even have to set the character gender in the UI model view
Wait
Omg
We can take screenshots of a specific area
nvm
Done
@proud cobalt @languid kayak @digital helm
Feel free to save that somewhere
https://github.com/SirDoggyJvla/Outfit-parser
That's sick, ill try it out shortly
hey I was reading the ekron page, and there are a few phrases that I think could be rewritten (i.e., "The town is bisected by a railroad that runs through the middle of town, and this railroad is protected by tall fences with barbed wire, which makes climbing them impossible. There are only two roads that cross this railroad.")
not sure if I trust my english if I'm honest, should I give it a shot? you can always reverse it after all
Go for it
I cant get it to load in the mod picker 😄
C:\Users\calvy\Zomboid\Workshop\Outfitparser\Contents\mods\Outfit_parser\42 And it even comes up in the upload to workshop button
Create the common folder
Bcs the common folder is empty, it won't be present in the repo
Ahh
I'll add a placeholder file for future cloning
That did it
You can adjust the time between screenshots
I found 0.5s on my side is usually fine
Lower is probably possible too
How do i open it and where do they save to
In case you get screenshots of the wrong outfit, it means the game didn't have time to load outfits in before the screenshot takes place
Oh yea it's X
I need to note that somewhere
Or make a keybind for it
Tho it's just a debug mod so that's fine as is
Where do the images save to
Zomboid/Screenshots
And you need to create a subfolder in there
Called OutfitParser
I'll see if I can create a folder from Lua
Ok working, files are output without extensions, some outfits are too tall for the window, and can we make the window as large as possible
Uh what ?
What resolution are you playing on ?
1440p
Oh I need to add the file extension at the end of the filename wait
You want them in png right ?
Yeah
Then just makin the greenscreen as large as possible
The UI is the size of your resolution
I make it the current resolution size
So I don't know why it'd even do that
Or how
Bcs the coordinates are in absolute, and 0 0 is literally the top left corner and every other UI elements are placed relatively from 0 0
So unless the game does some fucked up fuckery there, the UI should literally be the same coordinates everytime
Try in 1920x1080
This is 1080. I just want the square itself larger
However large you can get it while keeping the bottom on the screen
Alright
Thanks, the bigger it is the better the image can be
Make PZ do the work of rendering it at that size
Ty btw
Haha perfect
I'll push that
So you can test it out
And I'll add a simple text box to change the filename
Ok pushed it
Pushed filename text box entry
In case you ever need to change that
The view adjusts to your current character, for the most part
It swaps between male and female automatically (that's part of that UI element, I didn't code that in)
Tho your character might also change look in the UI
If you need more control on that, tell me
Or if you need more control on other bits
It automatically retrieves the current list of outfits, so if there's ever new outfits added in, you can run it again
That's working great. Here's a wild idea, could you do one for item models?
Some outfits have beards and hairstyles too, does it account for that?
No idea
Didn't knew beards and hairstyles could be applied to outfits
For item models, would need the ability to zoom and rotate freely
Automatic render would be good, but will need the ability to manually render. We can technically automatically render with Blender with @digital helm script, but it would have the same issues with rotation and zooming (I would assume)
That would be great too
And thus we can have it be properly placed like on the ground
Do you want individual manual renders for outfits ?
Yeah rotating would be a necessity. Some items are on some weird angles
Nah
Alright I'll look into that
I'm probably going to repurpose the outfit parser mod as a general Wiki in-game tools mod
That way you have every tools in a single mod
That would be good. @languid kayak might want some QOL stuff for testing
They look pretty good
The green hue hue is a discord thing 😄
Pretty happy with this
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Outfit
They look so good
It all uses the page dictionary now so naming is way less obtuse, and the list is generated off the names of the actual articles. It was a nightmare trying to auto parse the half CamelCase half not into article names.
Also distributions should support the new naming too, should update next time the bot runs
How to move pages from one category to another?
Can change the category in the header and at the bottom of the page, if you give me an example i can show you specifically on that page
Oh wait, I figured it out, its on the bottom of the page
I'll have to take a look how you're doing it, so I can make sure vehicles are updated. I used your old parser for them
I moved several locations to a new Doe Valley Forest category I made
Im changing skill bonuses to read the full xp gain, rather than the boost xp gain. I figure it saves a little confusion saying 100% xp gain rather than +75 xp gain
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Hydration_Pack links to https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Hydration_Pack_(camo) but the second is a blank page.
Thanks, the camo version is now on the same page so there's no need for the link anymore. I've removed it
thank you ❤️ didnt know where to report it!
No problem, thanks for letting us know. We've very recently merged about 600 pages so let me know if you see any more 'about' lines with red links
Oof
gonna have to use on screen keyboard
hmm
Can you watch tv
As a deaf illiterate
yep
thats another bug report for me
The principle of watching TV is that you can ... watch
I mean, you can watch
But you cant hear what they say
or understand what they are saying with subtitles
It really depends on the stuff
since you cant read
It would need them to implement per TV show behavior
Like watching cooking or carprentry is ok
I guess
I think the premise was closed captions? I think I suggested once that only premium TVs should be able to enable them though
Sometimes header too, as Calvy said (the last word on the header dictates the category)
oh, good point, missed that
Exactly
If deaf can watch tv and vhs (though home vhs should be made unaccessible to deaf since they dont provide cc most of the time), because they have cc
Then deaf illiterate can't watch tv at all
can watch but not learn from it or comprehend the text I guess. Would probably still reduce boredom IMHO
I think I touched it briefly once when we were discussing names for moodles.
Not sure what are they named after (seems to be a variation of their ID but we also have the names on debug mode. Sadly they are not really consistent (some have "Level" in them, some are overly descriptive), but since these are more user-facing and actually a text other than ID that's not really shown, maybe we could adjust some pages to them? So far I did some redirects.
Especially since we cover Fear, Sanity and Morale which are only visible in debug
Possible renames would be
- https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Hungry → Hunger (different than ID, but potentially easier to link too, goes well with possible Thirst rename)
- https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Thirsty → Thirst (this one is same as ID, and easier to link to)
- https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Tired → Fatigue
- https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Drunk → Drunkenness (though it'd be harder to link)
- https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Angry → Anger
- https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Stressed → Stress (easier to link to as well, and closer to the ID)
- https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Bored → Boredom (a little harder to link though)
- https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Unhappy → Unhappiness (harder to link though and in debug it's erroneously called Unhappyness)
- https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Wet → Wetness (harder to link)
- https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Sick → Sickness (ditto)
Also @flint vapor would it be possible to link to moodle pages from the general debugger menu? Though it's an edge case so maybe it's best to be skipped?
Yeaaa I'm probably not doing that lol, this sounds unecessary
(link for Wiki That! that is :D)
Who would even bother using that ?
People who active the debug menu, who should already have the knowledge to navigate those moodles in the first place I'd say
The mod is more aimed at the general user, if a general user even find this moodle menu it's a freaking miracle LMAO
The debug menu are particularly annoying to navigate and find what you're looking for haha
Ooook that item 3D rendering might prove itself to be an interesting challenge
@proud cobalt I think this would be bumped to 42.12.1 (42.12.2 now kinda)? Also for some reason it made the headers lowercase (low priority really, but something to possible note). I suppose it was a dict upgrade after merges? https://pzwiki.net/w/index.php?title=PZwiki:Item_list&diff=
I added animals and vehicles to https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Category:Site_maintenance as a late follow-up to our brief discussion, but I think this one could still changed to (B42 items) to be more clear I guess?
Some temple loops btw: https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Category:Pages_with_template_loops – didn't see what could be the cause yet
@proud cobalt following the recent merges of item pages, should these two be split or not anymore?
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Hockey_Goalie_Shinpad
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Soft_Shin_Pad
If the latter, we could remove the notice
Ok that's a start
Now to dig through literally hundreds of possible functions, and find the ones I need to control the view
Alright I got this for now @proud cobalt
I got a weird inverted normals problem in the renderer for some reasons that I'll need to find a solution for
No buttons for screenshots now, but I'll add that in later
Not really sure why that happened, its capitalised in the script '{| class="wikitable theme-blue sortable" style="text-align: center;"\n! Icon !! Name !! Item ID\n'). And yeah version bump isn't too important though, only bugfixes
Yeah no split anymore, i'll remove
Hmm i didnt consider that they would have a background too
@languid kayak Do we need the test date if the last one was 40.8?
Redirects sure i think we should stay close to the moodle name
It seems the issue only occurs when the navbox is called but also not included due to the include size being too large. Quite the bug. @digital helm it says it's to do with the sup template. However i'm working on that fix excluding sharpknife recipes from items right now so shouldn't really need any follow up
Nope
Umm... I'll take a look at that...
Umm... I'll take a look at that...
I think it's more of it glitching out because of include size
Ok items will no longer have recipes where the only use as as a SharpKnife tool.
Tag articles should now also have crafting tables where that tag is used as a part of crafting E.g.
The only page left with include size limits is multitool. I don't really want to exclude any more tags from the recipes, removing SharpKnife was already something i didn't want to do. It's only the navbox left out right now, so i think we leave it for the time being.
I can finally say after like 12 months, that this issue is resolved
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Category:Pages_where_template_include_size_is_exceeded
Oh i have to update the recipes data files, they will link to the pages that have been merged. Will try get to that tomorrow
Moving pages is so annoying 😄
Mediawiki is one of those things that everyone would simultaneously love and hate switching off of
I think we discussed it before? But yeah, can gut it as it's not needed unless you already did it. There are no test in sight I guess
name as in ID?
Yeah what we have now for the most part
was just doing some testing now, seems that panic is reducing melee damage again, albeit by less than it was beforehand. Anyone with a decompiled copy of the code want to take a peek and see what the values are now?
You can decompile the code with a sibgle click app
Yeah fair, going through it now
does anyone know what this specifically means?
Given the context it seems to have to do with how far away the zombie is, but I'm not sure what the exact value is.
Reason why is because panic decreases the hit chance by 4 per level, + this value * . 5
Which file, I'll have a quick look
Combat Manager
From what i can tell this specifically seems to just handle returning the actual value of the distance, the distance is stored as a square so returning the square root returns the actual distance
is distance measured in tiles or is there an abstraction there as well
I have no idea, i would assume tiles
oh wait, I think I remember, it's about a half a tile
I'll do some testing on this later to confirm that

Missing back when the aim falloff over distance was just 1% per tile rn
No suppressed articles 🎉
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Category:Suppressed_articles
Done
Navbars beginning to roll out, expect some teething issues 🤞
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Abandoned_settlement
@naive imp
Maybe it isn't a settlement
But rather camping sight

The more I think about it, the more I doubt my first idea of it being anything but a camping/hunting ground
For me the biggest thing is that church looking building with the gravestones. A little odd for a campsite
do u guys have a full list of item variables for modding items for b42
list only covers b41
i mean for new variables in 42 if any
@flint vapor would know best. I think he generated them for B42 but could be misremembering
Oh i think it was Lua Events he generated :/
Yea Lua events only
I plan on reworking this page to update it to the new modding wiki format but it takes a lot of time since there's literally hundreds of params
@flint vapor Moving over to the navbar, i made one for modding with some links from the main modding page. It's meant to be for quick navigation to either broader topics, or important related pages. Feel free to add / remove whatever pages you feel are neccesary for modding
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Template:Navbar_modding
Ah that's for the main menu right ?
Will go at the top of all modding related pages
To replace the header template
Oh
Oh god another one of those LMAO
Well alright, I'll probably keep it light
But that'll be good I think
Mostly for the modding fields
It's not like the navbox where it lists everything, just to assist with navigation. The header listing categories wasn't really helpful for users.
Can also subdivide it if needed, e.g. one for modding and one for guides.
Oh uh
We can't easily access categories that way
What's the current go to for the rest of the wiki ?
Because personally using categories is the only viable way to properly parse the modding wiki
So having a quick access to it is quite important
You can still access categories easily at the bottom of the page, and the category namespace will still have the header
The header?
Yeah I'm gonna correct it
There's nothing to correct, the header is not used anymore
Oh hang on
I see now
I mean, McCoy Estate is a location, not an item lmao
Yeah, took me a second. But we're not using header anymore
It's because the infobox is on the same line as the header
I am fixing the items thing though, i must have put the wrong template in last night
Woops. Hopefully not too painful to fix?
No, should be fixed now
lmk when you finally get around to adding them 🫡
they might even add more as unstable updates more
😭
for now though is there a way to like, make pz print out all variables ?
declaration: package: zombie.scripting.objects, class: Item
actually is this it?
ok yeah this is it, i see why it'll take time cause you'll need to explain what each one does
Might not hold everything
Header replacement is finished
https://pzwiki.net/w/index.php?title=Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Header&namespace=0&limit=5000&hidelinks=1&hideredirs=1
Great work! Thanks for doing that
Will absolutely look at implementing this
It's partially discords fault, I'll type "Moderat" then the role will come up so I'll click enter, as I click enter discord search updates with users and I end up pinging a random user
Yea that happened so many times lol
And I swear there's at least one or two accounts that aim to do this just to stop you from pinging moderators lol
That top guy very specifically
There seems to be an inconsistency with the dateformat template
First one is {{#dateformat:2025-01-05|ymd}}
Middle ones are {{#dateformat:2022-09|ym}}
Last one is {{#dateformat:2019-11-20|ymd}}
It'd be nice if they all used full leter months
And for the last one to actually make sense in comparisson to the first one
So I guess the dateformat is just too stupid to be able to use the year and the month only ?
💀
dateformat is a magic word, not a template. It uses the user's date format preference, with everything after | being the default. iirc we use mdy because that's the way the US likes it
Magic words are strings of text that MediaWiki associates with a return value or function, such as time, site details, or page names. This page explains only the standard magic words; for a technical reference, see Manual:Magic words .
There are three general types of magic words:
Behavior switches: these are usually written as uppercase words ...
I use year month day, because users need to be able to sort by date the tutorials
That's reasonable
Alright getting there, I found the fix for the weird visual bug on models, which is due to the weapon rotation hack which needs to be activated
Tempted to edit https://pzwiki.net/w/index.php?title=Mod.info the "Icon" entry to highlight that naming your icon file exactly icon.png currently results in the orange pebble shown. You gotta name it differently.
All ok with that?
Wait what
That's not true
I tested it
I mean, give a few seconds to check that
Oh shit they broke it
Wtf
That worked before I'm sure of it

rel. I am on linux to. Not arch btw 😄
I'm not on arch either haha
So I think we should make a bug report
And we can add a BugBox template to the Icon parameter
That way we can officially report that, and link the bug report on the wiki page
Feel free to do it if you want
Cool. Got a usage example "in the wild"?
And can/should I send some form of edit preview?
I do have an example wait
Cool thanks. Should I leave bug report link empty even if it says required? 🙂
It's not required no I'll fix that but I meant make an actual bug report on the forums about it
And link that bug report
"Warning: This action has been automatically identified as harmful. New users may not include external links in their edits.
Attempting to submit this edit again will result in your account being banned!"
Poor me 🥹
I guess it is because I choose to edit the whole page instead of selecting edit only the block and the whole page contains links ...
No it doesn't matter
Did you create an account ?
@languid kayak new users can't add links ?
I guess add the BugBox without the link, I'll add the link
Jup "Karmachameleon" joined Oct. 10
You might need X amount of edits idk
I did omit the parameter.
{{BugBox|Using the exact filename "icon.png" results in an orange placeholder ball being shown while other filenames work. (Tested on Linux).|version=42.12.1}}
Oh ...
The bug box adds a link anyway to the forums
💀
report first, bugbox after then - no orphans allowed 😏
Have you made a bug report ? I'll add the bugbox
I think they should? Though I remember talling loosly about verifying new users, maybe @digital helm or @proud cobalt know more though
oh true yeah, new users can't have more than 2 external links too
I'll create the bug report on the forums
I wasn't sure if you would so I did not. I can if you haven't already 😄
Version: [42.12.3] Mode: [main menu] Server settings: [N/A] Mods: [Controlled example mod to reproduce bug] Save: [doesn't matter] Reproduction steps: 1- Create a simple example mod 2- Define a mod.info file for your mod, place in the versioning folder (42, and not common) 3- Have a png file name...
Don't worry I got it
Go add a comment to confirm this happens to you too
I'll add details about my system in case this is the problem
Added the bugbox
Thanks buddy. Will do. However, Neither "Zombies" nor "Project Zomboid" let me pass the security check :D. I must be a bot.
Wdym ?
PZ aint it. retype fully? Yeah I don't Copy paste. No spaces.
hmm wait. There is another captcha when refreshing the page
works now. I think the captcha-gen-thing in the background was super delayed or something. Web-devs should show a warning or spinner or smth 😉 that one goes on top of the zombie/zomboud question.
Done, pending moderator approval there which probably isn't gonna be an issue.
Thanks for walking through this with me Doggy.
Oh no what have I done 😆
@proud cobalt do you want to be able to render any item models or any items ?
An account that has no edits can't add external links. It's to reduce spam
What's the difference? Need to render all models for any item
@flint vapor Page dictionary updated with weightloss
Noice
Oh god
The difference is idk, every models is every model scripts, even unused
I need to rework how I'm handling it rn it's a fucking mess
Sounds like my renderer too 😆
I did it that way too. Just rendered all the models in the scripts, rather than comparing with each item
hi guys i'm back
So i was looking at the source of the template:infobox page, and it seems really really short
<includeonly><div class="infobox {{{class|}}}" {{#if:{{{color|}}}|style="border-color: {{{color}}};"}}>
<div {{#if:{{{color|}}}|style="background-color: {{{color}}}; color: white;"}}>{{{title|}}}</div>
{{{1|}}}
</div></includeonly>
how does this create the entire infobox?
that's just the core template, e.g.
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Template:Infobox_item
It is really long lol. The next step is to recreate it in lua which should be faster and simpler to maintain
What do you mean?
It's written in parser script from before we had access to lua, it's a very simple language which requires a lot of repeated code. Lua is faster and doesn't require that
It is lol
Yeah we dont really edit it on the site, and it's a little better with the editor
And yet, it's still not that great haha
Haha I said better not good
I liked wikicode when making my encumbrance thingy
The fact it worked was crazy to me
got one for you! https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Simple_Loom
i dont know what its suposed to say but its not that.
What ?
My message wasn't for you, what are you talking about ?
Thr other day you said to me to report any weird issues with the wiki that I came across.
Uh ...
Link my message, I need more context here
The page you sent is about a specific tile, not related to modding so not my wiki subject
Yeah wrong person it was @proud cobalt #pzwiki_editing message
By the way, if you replace the infobox templates with a Lua version, would every page that uses the infobox need to be edited?
Nah
oh ok
Sorry what's the issue with this one?
The loom is a crafting station used to create thread and twine from wool. The wiki entry however simply lists it as a movable tile
Ahh, that's not really an issue, it's just a page nobody has had the time to add to yet
Ah okay! I went to link it last night and noticed it was blank haha. Advanced loom is the annoying one since its not craftable but Is movable. But no one knows where to find one!
The complex loom right? You can search for it on B42map 😄
Yes that thing! I've never seen it in game! That's super useful to know though for next time someone asks!!
Can't search all tiles but I've added lots of the big ones to be searchable on B42map, things like complex looms, antique stoves, popsicle freezers. All searchable
OOo are the chest freezers searchable?
Yes they are too
yay i love them. there adorable!
people's love towards inanimate objects never ceases to amaze me
I fixed the intro added in https://pzwiki.net/w/index.php?title=Literature&diff=prev&oldid=1190097 a little (see https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Literature), correcting decimal spearator and added links), but I have a feeling it could use some further cleanups?
Unusual to have the main block of text about the total number of book titles 😄
so many new colors in chat
Guys please ban sharpgolden's IP address from pzwiki.net
(he advised to use the Zomboid Original Sin — using fire to kill zombies)
A lot of oranges
fire is so ineffective at killing zombies it's unreal
Never been a fan of fire
> firefighter pfp
checks out
Collateral damage has entered the chat
I prefer the pickaxe myself
I kinda started to like crowbar, first time playing with it in B42, was always an lumberjack/axe guy
Meh
Low damage high stamina usage
Id rather have a short blunt
For single zeds it's fine 😄
I like short knives, but mostly for their jaw stab option, and stealth is at least a little more viable now that the zombies don't have pinpoint hearing
People say stealth is still useless. I say they are still shit lol
I use stealth all the time
I always keep a screwdriver on my belt for that exact reason
That's a good point
Long blade all the way, just so rare
Stop slacking on smithing Calvy
@digital helm I think this is no longer needed? https://pzwiki.net/wiki/User:Vaileasys/sandbox_2 It's categorized in https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Category:PZwiki 😄
@lucid junco the missing image in https://pzwiki.net/wiki/KY_Transit#Gallery is something you want to upload yet, or some wrong name?
huh, I think something with English page count (used on main page https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Project_Zomboid_Wiki ) has broken? Maybe you could check @proud cobalt or @digital helm?
I think we have more than 31 pages in English after all 😄
https://pzwiki.net/w/index.php?title=Metal_Crate&curid=12545&diff=1219877&oldid=1212009 is this still for b41.78.16 or should be bumped to 42?
The smithing tree is bad atm so i'm expecting a big change for that, so smithing is low prio
Leave on 41 the rest of the page needs to be updated still
Oh @digital helm Did the header add pages to English?
Or should the categories already be in English?
What's bad about it? Nails blocking the tech tree?
This was made for 42.8 so maybe things are a little different, but i havn't seen much in terms of changes for blacksmithing other than being renamed to blacksmithing
Hmm, yeah this full tech tree is supposed to be done in the wilderness from scratch
If you're looting like a normal person, this tech tree is far more easier and you can skip a lot of the parts
Woops. That'd be it. Can just move it over to LangSwitch
I'll clear this. Need to go through my other sandboxes too
We have a template for this, i never knew
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Template:Language_code_category
Ok added to langswitch
Thats... probably gonna take some time to populate
Was thinking of moving it to trivia, yeah 🤔
but is it 60 or 80 on B41 :D?
I technically can check it I guess
yeah, it was my though as well 😄 Good that you picked it
any chance you could add a the packaged tent under "see also" or as a sub line like "may also be found in its packaged form" or something and link one of the tents packaged as an example? https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Tent https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Tent_(Packed)
You should be able to do that yourself, should be simple enough especially with visual editor – see also is basically a list of links without any additional info that are related, but we did experiment with generating them automatically so a lot of them may be irrelevant and some pages mis them entirely. They are in the format of
`== See also ==
- [[Link]]
- [[Link2]]
- [[Link3]]`
(there's no upper or lower limit, but 3 is a good start)
The additional info goes to == Trivia == section if you want to add something that requires text, though not sure if that along is worth a trivia 😄
And yeah, seems that both Tent and Packaged version of it are autogenerated; I do have a plan to eventually be going through those and revamping summaries, see also etc. but since we maintain thousand of pages, time is the most needed, so feel free to adjust the see also if you see them irrelevant and maybe even remove the notice once done. I and other admins are verifying all the changes anyway, so feel free to adjust them at will before that 😄
In case you didn't do any edits on pzwiki, we have https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Help:Contents – I started cleaning it up a little, so if something's not clear, let me know, especially now that we have visual editor (most of the admins, me included use source editor, so I might not added some quirks with Visual Editor, so let me know)
btw I fixed the * in https://pzwiki.net/w/index.php?title=Citr-8_Wave&diff=1263249&oldid=1263203 @lucid junco but I'm not sure now, do we still use <nowiki> for it? I think you adjusted the parser for it @digital helm or was it you @proud cobalt?
Either I forgot or uploaded with a wrong name
uploaded it now
Huh, just checking it, there is an advert for Orange-Lite pop. On wiki its listed as an advert to the Orange Soda, which seems about right:
"Have you tried new Orange-Lite Pop?
The ice-cold, all-American taste of pure refreshment!
Quench your thirst!
Energize your being!"
Should I overwrite it to suggest that its actually a citr-8 branded product and link to you saying that its actually a citr-8 wave?
Also @proud cobalt @languid kayak(or idk who should I ping for that) Why both Pop cans labled as Cola?
But in code it is labled as Pop
and in the article itself it is referred to as "Pop"
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Notable_Tables_Showroom
Page created
Never link to Pat_Bren, I'm not a source, only the game is the source. Orange Soda is the item, Citr-8 is the brand (which usually aren't listed)
I'll be looking at this weekend. We have a deeper issue with naming fluid containers. From a quick look at the article though, they should be something like "Pop Can" or "Pop Can (Cola)"
i feel a little bad that most of my contributions are nitpicks like this, but in 'By default it generates with cola.', 'By default' and 'generates with' seem redundant
'by default' could imply it can be configured, which it can't (without mods), so i would say 'It generates with cola.' would be preferable wording
The item name has changed, the body text hasn't been updated. The item names are Cola and Diet Cola
https://puu.sh/KDbsc.png
Don't feel bad just update it 😄
is that part not made by a script or something?
That part wont be updated by a sript
Is that from the debug item list? They only show the display name, rather than the actual live name the player sees
It was indeed the display name was changed from Pop to Cola in 42.0.0 but then removed as part of 42.12 making it just {fluid} ({container})
Surely we aren't going to change the article name to Cola (Pop Can) (Sealed)
definitely not
it has 3 names. the open, sealed and the empty
so it'd be something like "Pop Can (Cola)"
We already have the container name in the infobox so i dont see a reason to change the name from Cola
since empty is Empty Pop Can
This issue extends to all fluid containers though
All the pop cans should be merged than i think
I guess we don't mention which fluids spawn in it then, in the infobox?
I was thinking of adding that too
Not in infobox
Yeah, I was thinking of adding it. But may be best to keep it in article, then merge them

We're after some thoughts on the naming of fluids containers. Since they're dynamic, we're struggling with a clear naming scheme.
If you don't know, the in-game name is based on the Container Name and the Fluid that's in it.
E.g., Cola (Pop Can) if it's a Pop Can (item) that has Cola (fluid) in it. Or Empty Pop Can if it's empty.
The problem is that it can change, e.g., the same item could be Water (Pop Can).
We currently have a few methods.
1) Varied naming.
- Single spawned fluid -
Fluid(orFluid (Container)). E.g.,ColaorCola (Pop Can)Container name is then in the infobox. - Multi spawned fluids (or none) -
Container. E.g.,Pop Can. We then list spawned fluids in the article.
2) Name based on the container name.
- Single spawned fluid -
Container (Fluid). E.g.,Pop Can (Cola)Container name is then removed from the infobox. - Multi spawned fluids (or none) -
Container. We still list in the article what can spawn in it.
3) Merge fluid containers.
- Merge them, since they're usually functionally identical, with any variation only being for the icon, model and spawning.
- So instead of having 21 separate pages for each
Glass Bottlevariant, they're all listed on one page.
strong support for 3, the fluid the container spawns with is not an inalienable property of the item so it doesn't make sense to name them after that
i suspect items like this may get merged in the game proper in the future, i've definitely heard that they're unhappy with all the duplicate items, they really just exist because the spawning logic isn't customisable enough
That would help a lot. These items existing purely for spawning has been a major pain for us
uses LUA table for spawning, proceeds to never use 1/100th the power of LUA in spawning table
Imagine if we had... onSpawn()
just... a callback with context for why the hell this item is being spawned and into what..
Yeah, or making a baseball cap and a reversed baseball cap that come in all the colours, then also creating all the individual colour items so they can specify what outfit spawns with what colour hat...
#1318920979581501502 message just a thought someone might wanna expand on.
Someone else might be able to add and expand on why it would be an amazing concept..

Fluid containers can be accessed in the translation keys, use that for the items / display name
Have a section on those pages that list every fluids that can spawn naturally in those fluid containers
3
I have no reasoning
Probably might be worth botting over so the other pages are consistent though? Also don't worry and thanks @flat sun, all nitpicks are welcome too and good you bring them here as well 😄
I guess 3 is the way to go, the only issue I have is that a lot of conmtainers that are totally different looking and different capacities and encumbrances are unanimously called "glass bottle", but that's the same issue with them being grouped in-game so wiki should kinda follow if we're merging stuff
Unless they change to something like "Wine bottle" or "Bourbon bottle" somewhere down the line in-game that is
What items are those for example?
Base.Hat_Bandana_Green Base.Hat_BaseballCapBlue Base.Gloves_FingerlessLeatherGloves_Black Hair dye variants, Ammo boxes, Duffel bags, etc
ah those, yeah
Clothing are mess since b41 sadly 🙁 Some revamp would be welcome still
3 is the best choice imo. If I was a reader I wouldn't want to have to click through 21 pages on the same container to find what I want. If spawning is an issue, we can make a separate section for it in the article that describes the criteria
The thing is the items were separate before. Theres no Vodka bottle anymore, it's Vodka (Glass bottle)
Ex. "A Glass Bottle can spawn containing a variety of liquids. Shown below is a table/explanation/whatever of what spawns where."
Example example
Example example
I think 3 is the best way with what we have now, i just dont like how it's done in game
And these bottles all have different models etc right
For like the different individual ones
different models, icons, and some have different weights
Then imo we should treat them the same as all the other items with variants, although the name is the same and the variants of like game pieces had different names so that might be annoying
Maybe a disambiguation page? But I know we aren't a fan of a lot of those
They removed all the display names from items which has caused a bit of a headache
Oh so you can't just see in game anymore? That's annoying
I haven't played pz in a bit
Name is dynamic. Changes with the contents
If you don't know, the in-game name is based on the Container Name and the Fluid that's in it.
E.g.,Cola (Pop Can)if it's a Pop Can (item) that has Cola (fluid) in it. OrEmpty Pop Canif it's empty.
The problem is that it can change, e.g., the same item could beWater (Pop Can).
Yeah I knew that
In game is this
#pzwiki_editing message
I was more talking about how all the different bottles with models weights etc are all still just called "glass bottle"
Not like "glass bottle-vodka" or whatever
So it would be Vodka (Glass bottle)
If they have the same contents they're called the same thing
No like the empty bottle
Empty Glass Bottle
Just the container with no fluid
Right but aren't they all called that despite the weights models etc etc? I know we got hung up on stuff like that before (I think)
Because that was the main reason for splitting a lot of pages based on the internal name of stuff
Like sneakers sneakersTINT etc
I could be wrong but I remember the only way we were able to merge them back into a page is because the info box was modified to handle different item IDs
At once
So I'm just saying idk if all these bottles have the same item ID or not and if so how do we wanna handle that
No they all have different IDs
Because I know item ids were a big thing before (I think)
That's the problem 😄
How many IDs can the info box handle?
Example list
That's not particularly an issue
Listing all of them would be a bit unwieldy tho no?
That'd be a big infobox
It's definitely not ideal
It's more, say a user is searching for vodka, how do we handle that. Previously there was a bottle of vodka item, and there still is in game, but now it's Vodka (Glass Bottle)
Hmmm
Id say list the bottles it can spawn in on the fluid page with redirects
Ex.
"Vodka can be found in various types of (bottles] around Knox Country."
And the that links to the associated bottle
Unless there's multiple
That may be an issue
