Id like to call to attention the zombie article in the pz wiki. I think it needs a full rewrite. Some sections could be fine with some edits but others should br scrapped and redone. If we all take a chunk we should be able to fix this article. The sections that need to be done are:

Spawning
Behavior
Hordes
Combat and damage
Crawlers
Sprinters
Knox infection
Wounds and decomposition
Outfits
Unique variants
Items

Everyone can take atleast one. As people volunteer to edit sections i will remove them from the list!

serene sage
#

planning on rewriting the entire thing from top to bottom but lately time has become a much more precious commodity

I’d like to draft the thing up myself first, then I can open it up for other people to make changes

that way things remain more consistent

as in the name of the vehicle (that is manually, but in a script, not the actual wiki :D)

digital helm
# languid kayak but it's all on a script, not manually, right?

Name of the vehicle is automated. If they don't have a unique name then they shouldn't have one in-game either. So the page will be something like Chevalier D6 (Fossoil), but the name will still be Chevalier D6 (same thing we do for items). It's all automated. Creating those pages will need to be manual

And its not like the case of burnt town or Tanglewood, since it doesn't have anything distinctive to it

lucid junco
#

Thats also a thing

#

There are nothing in the game that calls this location Jamieton

#

Nor is this location marked on the map

#

The only other thing that it has going for it is some folks calling it Jamieton

proud cobalt
#

Like i said, i'm trying to give them a chance instead of straight up deleting it

lucid junco
#

Unless devs confirm that this location exist, like with valley station, it isn't a real thing

proud cobalt
#

Looking into this now, as i first thought it does show in the contents of the other items, e.g. The diamond can spawn in the pouch and the pouch can spawn in the duffel bag Base.Bag_MoneyBag (duffel bags are not updated to B42 yet).
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/User:Calvy/sandbox

The loot tables don't account for the bag contents. @digital helm has already made a contents specific parser so it shouldn't be too hard to implement into distributions for specific items, it's just working backwards. On my todo now

Would it be useful for, on that table, the body location on the header column go to a specific page for each where it has that same exclusive with / covers entry, but then also lists all items that use that location?

flint vapor
#

@languid kayak this is a modding project in fact, this is an unofficial fork of the offficial editor

#

Tho this entire shit is so confusing

flat sun
#

huh? no it's not

#

worlded is official, it's in the modding tools

flint vapor
#

But the page I wrote here, is not about the official tools in fact

#

Bcs I didn't realize the fork and the official kept the same name

#

So this page IS in fact a modding project

#

I'm going to reformat the whole thing tho, bcs this is just hella confusing

#

Called TileZed but the original tool is TileEd and there's no links to TileZed and only to TileEd

#

So is TileZed just a schizo tool or what ?

#

And it has always been just TileEd since forever ?

flat sun
#

tilezed is a fork of tileed, an open source level editor, for project zomboid

flint vapor
#

Yea I managed to figure out the basic of it, tho the repo for TileZed is not named TileZed and just TileEd, which is kind of sad I guess haha

#

Currently what I have, I'll try to go deeper

flint vapor

digital helm
flint vapor

It's showing 2 as the preview

#

Which is why I'm very confused

digital helm
#

You're using the same image for 1 and p1

flint vapor
#

That's the second time I've had this issue in fact

digital helm
#

If you want the text to be a separate image, as in display 2 vertically, you'll need to wrap it in a new /image template

flint vapor
#

What ?

#

What am I supposed to use exactly because that whole 1 2 3 and p1 p2 p3 is just confusing on which does what or why one p2 even exists

digital helm
flint vapor

flint vapor
digital helm

proud cobalt
proud cobalt
#

I'd be happy with this, only not sure how i'd go about automating it, bot flags are a possbility but i'd really prefer to get the tables themselves out of the articles, they bloat the page.
OTOH we could do something like we do with recipes, having lua data tables, but that adds complexity to editing and obscures where the data is. πŸ€” Trade offs on both sides

@languid kayak too ^

#

digital helm
digital helm
proud cobalt

I also added some flavour text to each subheader, it was even worse before that

#

We could do what you do with contents and decide if it starts shown or not based on the lenght of the table? (This might be best only in the obtaining section)

digital helm
proud cobalt
#

Seperator lines is what i think i am wanting, but not sure if we can activate it natively on citizen?

Migrating crafting tables to the new format with Show Hide. I've removed the dot between the show and the header, the default header will be Recipe table while the template call doesn't define a header. This is the default header an can be changed or removed on the module level with 1 edit if we decide to do so.

I did it this way to mock saying Show recipe table without being broken up by a dot, though recipe is capitalized because technically it's not a sentence. Happy to change that too.

At this time loot will not be changed over, that's going to require a lot more back end work in the parser and implementation with the bot

Crafting is the process of constructing tools, items, and blocks in Minecraft that can be performed via the inventory, a crafting table, or automatically using a crafter. Players can craft by moving items from their inventory to the crafting grid, arranging them to align with a specific recipe. A 2Γ—2 and 3x3 crafting grid can be accessed from t...

I am slowly catching with the recent changes and usual pattern is that people first translate the articles that are first linked on the main page, that is pages like these https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Special:Contributions/Texaliuz

You started rewriting zombie page @serene sage https://pzwiki.net/wiki/User:Mid/zombie and in the past I at least cleaned up stuff like https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Frequently_Asked_Questions https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Multiplayer_FAQ

Not sure if anyone planned on rewriting https://pzwiki.net/wiki/The_Indie_Stone or is it just some long task?

Anyway, the point being these should probably be keep in mind as pages that are being translated often if we do make edits to keep them up to date at any point, maybe I'll get to them eventually again, but no promises on that πŸ˜›

@flint vapor you suggested moving https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Animation_guide to "How to create custom animations" but I actually thought of a different naming scheme, do you think it's a good idea? I'll keep the redirects in case they are linked:

https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Animation_guide β†’ Creating custom animations
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/How_to_make_custom_voices β†’ Creating custom voices
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/How_to_make_a_clothing_mod β†’ Making a clothing mod (or "Creating a clothing mod"?) (the page seems to be neglected WIP kinda, is it still planned to being worked on?)
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/How_to_make_a_flier_mod β†’ Making a flier mod (or "Creating a flier mod")
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/How_to_make_a_hair_mod β†’ Making a hair mod (or "Creating a hair mod")
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/How_to_upload_a_mod β†’ Uploading a mod (similar to how https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Installing_mods , https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Using_mods or https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Testing_mods_in_multiplayer though no idea how useful these pages are, these are still on 41.78.16)
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Mod_problems_solution β†’ Resolving mod problems (it seems to be part of the three guides above)

It'd keep the names shorter (and easier to link to, both by typing and natural language flow) and skip the repeated "How to".

Other two pages are already following this naming convention:
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Creating_dynamic_radio_channels
https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Decompiling_game_code

The way Modding projects work

#

It is

#

Bcs any of these two projects could evolve separtly into more stuff and need more stuff described individually for each

#

It would break the philosophy of the modding project, which is to document modding tools developed by the community for the community, thus giving access to a big library of sources codes and more for people to pick up work from or discover how stuff was done

#

The B41 and B42 unofficial javadocs are 2 completely different projects made by 2 completely different persons for 2 completely different versions of the game

#

They do not share the same source code, they are their own thing, I'm not mixing them in the same page, that woukd break whole point of the modding project category

#

It's like saying we should mix the TileZed page with the unofficial mapping tools because they are technically used for the same thing

Those two projects just end up sharing the same name, which makes you think oldid is adapted, which it isn't

I noticed a lot of categories link to Project Zomboid, shouldn't they use {{ll}} instead so non-English pages are adjusted?

Or should we go away with linking to it anyway (everything is "In Project Zomboid)? The PZ page needs heavy polish anyway and encouraging translators to translate it by red links is kinda disservice in the state the page is at 😩

Example (and main category): https://pzwiki.net/w/index.php?title=Category:Project_Zomboid&action=edit

The category descriptions is something I tried to iron out and standardize on a few occasions, but never really went through all of them, btw.

#

I think I'll eventually go and remove the "in Project Zomboid" bits, after all that's the only game we cover on the wiki so it's redundant needlessly.

# flint vapor The template checks if the page exists, if it doesn't it links to the java docs

I'm confused too, https://pzwiki.net/w/index.php?title=ModData&action=history it seems @digital helm moved the page to https://pzwiki.net/wiki/Mod_data and you described it in the news? Should it be a redirect to Mod data page?

*[[ModData]] – A page explaining how to use ModData to store data in the game for use even after reloading a save. Various classes have their own specific mod data attached to them. However, this page is spefically about the global mod data object named <code>ModData</code>.

flint vapor
#

The detail I added to the move tag

#

We decided that the page of the java object was enough to also add per instances mod data

#

That making two separate pages was not really viable

flint vapor
#

yea

flint vapor
languid kayak
flint vapor
#

It's an example

languid kayak
flint vapor
#

No bcs this template links to the JavaDocs if the page doesn't exist

#

Basically Java objects, are present in the Java Docs

languid kayak
#

It'd be red here (last link)

flint vapor
#

No it wouldn't

languid kayak
#

and not sure I should link to "Mod data" instead?

flint vapor
#

And a way to not have to create useless java object pages for things that really don't deserve them because there's nothing to say about them, we want to make sure we link the java object page IF it gets created

#

And if the Java object page doesn't exist, which ModData was before, then we link to the JavaDocs instead

#

The fact the ModData page exists

#

Means we can't properly use the JavaObject template

#

Bcs then it links to the existing page

#

Which is empty

#

Instead of linking automatically to the JavaDocs

#

The examples are a demonstration of that

#

BaseSoundBank doesn't have a page

#

So it links to the java docs

languid kayak
flint vapor
#

IsoZombie has a page, so it links to the wiki page in priority

languid kayak
#

oh

flint vapor
#

Check what the template does

languid kayak
#

it'd link to documentation then?

flint vapor
#

Yes

#

If you delete the ModData page (WHICH WE NEED TO DO), it automatically falls back to the java docs

#

That's the whole point of the template and the reason it exists

languid kayak
flint vapor
#

Yes

#

Tho tbf

#

I hate the fact we list individual pages like these on pages of their category

#

When the category page exists in the first place

@flint vapor let me know if there's anything else to do or want to change something, I'll be adjusting the links in the meantime.
