When beginning to Tumble Climb, the game takes the player's energy at that point, divides it by 40, and rounds assumedly up to the nearest whole number. Let's call that number EnergyDrain
Then, for every level of tumble climb, take EnergyDrain, multiply it by 0.95, effectively taking away 5% of it.
Then, take away that total energy every tick until tumble climb is over. So the effect of tumble climb is effectively asymptotic decay

it's exceedingly good later game

with good max stamina upgrades and ~5 sprint speed you can run a long while and search rooms super fast. also makes it good for easily getting away from monsters.

the increased stamina cost is EXTREMELY negligible. I did the maths a while back and it's like, a 10% increase in stamina drain or something.

If youre at max hp with a few health upgrades, just let him absorb all your health and then kill him, you get the health back in the green aura plus a 2k-3k orb, if you have low health, try to whack him around any surface like walls or floors, try to do it as fast as you can so he dies
