I don't think this was caused by you breathing in air, I think it was the noise indication you made, once hitting the floor after the double jump ability. Enemies can hear impact and normal walking or running.

One thing, a lot of us forget, me included. Is once you get to later levels and get stronger, we get cocky acting like nothing can harm us, and then the silliest defeat ruins our run.. Trust me, I've experienced this far to may times..

Yep, that's unfortunately what happens sometimes. When we get to later stages we need to stop pretending because we have upgrades and a weapon, nothing can harm us. Because you'll find that exact thought will end your run, and you will realise you threw once it's too late.

and lets compate it to yours
nomatter what you do, u get 1shot, its fast, and takes atleast 4 shotgun shots, if you hit all, because from the looks of it hes thin, and fast, so hard to shoot at

Tranq is great early on, drag enemies into pits, but there's also a tech you can use to kill any enemies without pits with no upgrades. Later on the most efficient killing method for enemies is sledge + gun.

Works best if you look straight away from the enemy while it's tranqed and look slightly up, then let go, it does a little hop off the ground, and takes 25 damage, repeat this a bunch and you can kill anything
