Quick question about the design of the character in marathon: what is it you like about the design and what is it that you kinda wish was explored or improved upon?

I like how distinct they are from every other shooter I've played, and how the skins actually fit the universe, not too over the top. (some may argue that the simplicity is bad or lazy, but I disagree. Same people would complain just as much if a fancy gold filigree volcano rock sniper skin was pay to purchase)

I am in the camp of people that kinda agree the simplicity of the designs are, not an issue, but sort of lack some sort of distinction which communicates each shell role

not to say I don't like the designs, rather I do think a little more clarity of the shape language to make certain aspect of the character more familiar would be beneficial. For me... a large issue I have with the designs is that there is a lot of information which doesn't exactly explain why its there (the lables, symbols and colors) all kinda mean nothing to me other than branding or descriptions of parts

And not to mention that some aspects of the model don't have a clear purpose, Ie. the antenna on the Assassin shell, the general body shape of the destroyer shell, the general messiness of thriages design

non of this is criticism which make me say the designs or bad or poor. More that it doesn't exactly tell me how these shells functionally work or the purpose of each aspect of their design. Recon is a one that eludes me the most, despite the fact that its actually my favourite shell design, still kinda confuses me with its helmet which we know is for reconnaissance, but doesn't clue into why it is designed that way

think the best criticism that someone said about the design which I think communicates my understanding of the problem is "the designs are too safe". Either way, I think the art direction has potential and hope future shells have more interesting designs

The decals everywhere is because the world needs to be navigated and constructed by robots

The little plus symbols on everything are like the reference points you put on something when you want to photoscan it

This is an actual robotics competition at Penn where the robots are using decals for a visual reference point to complete their tasks

I think the design of the corporate minimalist character are interesting... they are not people or living things... rather disposable vehicles for a runner to use to simply get on tau ceti, grab anything they can, and get out. If their body perishes... oh well, they can print a new one and set off for the planet as soon as possible
