When a new player starts Marathon, a default purple emblem "Grim Logic" and blue background "01 Welcome" is set for the player. However once you unlocked your first emblem/background and swap out to the new one, the default emblem/background can no longer be selected again, effectively lost forever.
I would love to have the option to re-equip the default emblem and background just like any other, that is all.

I take solace in the fact that the team that lied to me as a Rook, isn't going to make it to final exil because they wanted my loot.

That said, it's kinda weird how hostile is everyone towards Rooks, when now they just kinda....exist.

How do we feel about the "Recon spam" especially on Cryo? I feel like it's a bit overdone to constantly be pinged. That's how Remnant was....it also had whole classes locked behind hidden secrets and puzzles. Some of the puzzles even spanned across multiple versions of the same map. Like, you had to get a specific helmet from version 1 of a map, then take it in until you got version 2 of that map that had a wrecked ship so you could put the helmet on to get through the facial scanner of the wrecked ship to get an item to turn in to unlock a specific class.

I imagine those people were likely either 1) cheater carry if so the footage will help. Or 2) effected by the region based mm in such a way by living close together

I know in destiny 2 you could do similar things if you lived close to people. Launching MM at the same time would match you in the same zones or PvP. It’s something they could fix if it’s not the cheating thing

I think the beginner perimeter specifically has less players spawn per round, so in solo especially the chances for pvp are pretty low if you don't look for it like run towards gunfire sounds etc

So, how long is Bungie gonna allow these cheaters to keep running rampit? Its getting really bad. Obvious hackers too. Ranked has one in just about ever 1/4 matches some times more for myself an a few other friends of mine. All of us are diamond+ an high 200+ lvl. Hackers are banned on other games many times when we look up the steam account too. Games gonna die from this an the network VPN hack thing thats letting people snipe each others lobbies to 6man-9man the entire game on cryo/ranked as well. Its so sad.

Are the matches setup in a way that we are paired with people at our skill level or is it a complete free for all where we can match with people who are geared af?

It just makes more sense when the population is dwindling when this is the first 2 hours of the game. I also want to say that I am not unfamiliar with extraction games. I have 300 hours in Arc and roughly 400 hours in Hunt Showdown. I can absolutely see this experience as a major turn off for anyone completely new. I am not new to this, and its kind of turning me off.

best I can offer is, just keep persisting, buy free kits... try out the different game modes (crew fill trio, solo, rook), get to know Perimeter decently well (to the point where you understand roughly where you are, and where the other landmarks are)

if playing with a crew, follow them close, watch where they shoot... pick a runner shell class to main, and start practising their abilities

unfortunately I don't think there are any shortcuts, and the frustration is real

There are voicelines/emotes that let you say "let's work together" and similar precanned lines

That said - say them when you HEAR someone, not when you see someone. Seeing another runner leads to neuron activation straight to the trigger finger and by then it's usually too late for negotiation

I did an experiment to see how much I die in the classic series vs this, and I die more in classic. Funny thing is I didn't realize it because the respawn is so fast.

I think this has far better gameplay than classic, but death makes you feel like you've been benched for the rest of the game. I just want to play, coach!

As someone who has never had any interest in extraction shooters whatsoever, and who immediately wrote this game off when it was announced to be an extraction shooter, I tried the beta on a whim to see how much I wouldn't like it, only to buy it a couple weeks after launch and become obsessed with it. That's how fucking good this game is, it converted a non-beliver like me. I think the hate comes from a combination of live service game fatigue and Bungie's perceived botching of Destiny 2 in its more recent years.

With a much larger playerbase, sbmm or level bmm could be a thing. But every week the playerbase is refined into a smaller group of try hard players.

It's a guesstimate based on the number of teams you kill + exfils heard/seen. You can never be absolutely sure (especially when doing a mode rooks spawn in) but it gives some level of confidence.

There are more that can spawn throughout the match. They will only spawn if any of the other initial 3 (the 2 you mentioned plus the guarded for Perimeter and Dire Marsh) are used. There will never be more that 3 exfils at a time available.

I'm speaking more in terms of the matchmaking. I assumed it was usually level based. My whole team being under level 20 means, they both get knocked first, then I'm in a 1 v 3 situation with 3 dudes over 125.

I never saw folks over level 100 in lobbies until this past weekend.

It's due to it being so late in the wipe, quite a bit of the player base is on break until next wipe. With it being S1 there isn't much content, so most of us have done everything we set out to do this season. So the general playerbase has thinned out causing the matchmaking to widen out, matching more people then it would've before.

It's the inherent flaw that comes with a wipe/season based system. The pros of the system absolutely outweigh the cons, but this is an inherent con to the system.

Ive had some luck in the LFC channel just to play with others. Most interactions have been chill, especially if you preface just wanting to game. Might get a couple higher levels than you but better than getting even lower levels.

Yeah, key based matchmaking is for sure a thing and people are 100% in the know. Cryo shits out dozens of keys for people each weekend, so there's ton to burn through I'm the down time.

The way matchmaking is done is a complete black box as in, there hasn't been any official statements confirming lvl based matchmaking or gear based or skill based. People say it is evident that lvl based matchmaking is confirmed by purchasing a new account and seeing how everyone in those lobbies are also low levels but that is unconfirmed. The only "official" statements being made were from a q&a podcast released 6 months ago, three months before release from a dev slightly mentioning level/season based matchmaking

I ran dozens of vaults over the weekend and always came out with more keys than I took in. I get that cryo keys are plentiful, but it's statistically improbable to consistently get the EXACT KEYS you're running in the same lobby, every lobby. Unless it's intentional matchmaking

I said this yesterday, but I think my problem with Marathon was all mindset. The first time I played it, I streamed it and was in the wrong headspace. It’s hard to play this game when you’ve got music in your head, and are trying to be entertaining and fill dead air.

Yeah, I’m still doing the solo beginner contracts on Perimeter, so I’m still learning what the game wants from me.

Marathon isn’t a game where you drop in and shoot shit like Halo or Destiny. But one thing I can say is that Bungie’s game feel is still elite among FPS games.

I remember playing the first Destiny when it was new, just doing some Crucible multiplayer, and saying to myself, “this feels right.”

The beginner contracts are very much to give you a feel for how the systems interact with one another. You ideally want to have an objective on every run, whether it's Event, Key or Contract based, just something to focus on.
The ideal way to play is by chaining runs, so you wanna just keep going with your loadout after a successful exfil. Try to vault a little extra and just keep pumping. As you increase your reputations with all of the factions you get fed tons and tons of gear so there's no need to worry about losing stuff 😄

Controller and console are definitely much stronger than MK in terms of Marathon. The aimassist is very forgiving and compensates for a lot.

shells are ok but is not working for an extraction shooter, for example everytime you enter a game sometimes you end up with 3 assasins or no triage etc, as a random player who wants a balanced play is harder when everything is locked up, and if you don't have dedicated team to play when you want to play, that's why i am saying distribute the abilities across cores or mods or smth else, that way you can always have balanced team play no matter who you match with

They can still keep the Shell concept, is just you can build your own shell with own ability, like pure Cyberpunk

the issue with marathon currently is onboarding. it doesn’t necessarily have to be “casual friendly”. but getting people hooked into the game quickly needs improvement.
