D3 is ridiculous when D2 is healing atm, and they can easily improve D2 and make it a self sustaining game, which it is.

Theres a lot of room for D2 to improve on, and it still garners a wide audience of players across multiple platforms. To drop it so suddenly and work and release D3 is a bad idea, look at how that turned out when they released D2 and dropped D1 while under Activision.

During the initial alpha invites did indeed keep going out, but they didn’t want to overload their servers. The initial alpha was testing some very specific things and they didn’t need the entire playerbase. Reddit is also the worst place you could ever go for information.

I think we are arguing seperate things. I understand your point, but it is strange they are only pulling from a very very small pool of the same players over the span of a few months. I dont believe those same players are testing each and every time (could be wrong) and I am sure there would be no harm sprinkling in older applicants as well. I think that part is strange to me.

I think also they wanna make sure that leaks do not happen and so they are keeping the play tests smaller. If they allow new people in even though they may have signed an NDA, they might leak the information. the current pool of applicants has been very good so far about not leaking information. There was one leak from the first play test and that got shut down so hard.

I see the arguments about why you would want consistent testers, but is there a negative to having fresh eyes applying feedback as well? Also, are testers that arent getting paid not getting burned out? Unless huge fans are the only ones doing these tests. Which can make feedback bias

yeah I know, but unless these are very controlled test where the game is specifically limiting them to testing specific things it would be testing Marathon 3 straight times. Who knows whats being given to them to test (it likely could be entirely differnet content each time) but I'd be curious to see the average testers playtime across each of these tests.

Also, the argument of "we want people to see the consistent changes" doesnt really hold weight when people that werent in the 2nd test then get access to the 3rd. They are seeing brand new stuff.
