would be really funny if we the players are these runner's brain and our actual lives are just a simulation for the runners to keep them from going insane while they're not deployed in a shell
I closed my eyes recently, entered a dream within seconds it felt, of a planet sized meteor casually falling towards Earth in the distance, with a view of it from my backyard. Not the first one I've had like this, but this was different in many ways. One difference is the shockwave hit a second after impact. Sent me soaring for about half a second then I woke up.
well our minds are digitized yeah
I was like only asleep for a minute.
I had a dream of swimming from some big whale chasing and I somehow got on an island and slipped off the cliff I was climbing from some moss and the waves became spikes as I fell š
Do you sometimes worry about the planet being erased by cosmic events when you are awake?
Isn't that moment when you wake up from suffering some mortal fate in a dream curious
Worry isn't the word I would use.
Especially how everyone's existence as a collective would end, consciousness as we know it ending.
Maybe not worry, just thinking about it sometimes.
I just don't think it's worth spiking my cortisol about honestly
like if it's coming and we can't stop it then I'll ball regardless
Then it dawns on me how comforting thoughts of an afterlife is.
maybe complain about how bad of a timing it might be
That is the conclusion, but sometimes at least for me, it happens automatically. I just "worry" or dread how it would look like to see, maybe not even see, 1 flash before the planet goes poof
Whatever it is. It's all just from a human perspective.
might be a pretty sight honestly, you ever seen a planet-wide fireball before?
no but it would probably go hard
I also wonder how it would sound like, if the sound would get to us at all before destruction
I only have these thoughts when I'm sleep deprived.
Just things to wonder about
I'm a sucker in general for space related things, which is likely why i like the aesthetic / lore of the game
I think my brain finds it gets entertainment out of it.
Donāt runners have to pay for their shells though? or is it a give us your brain for free immortal shell situation ?
@still matrix Imagine your dream was a snippet of a version of you from another universe experience a world ending event
Yeah I've played with that thought.
Maybe that version is merging with me.
And when I go, I'll merge with another me.
From a dream.
Anything new with the lore. I havent been updated since the terminals activated
Who knows, your consciousness right now might be the "only" one while the other versions are on autopilot.
If you think about the "time" before you were born and how existence simply existed before you, it is weird because it feels familiar. I wonder how it would feel to a human that is not aware about history at all.
Perhaps it's more animalistic
Yes youre in debt
They literally say that in the first interaction with CyAc
does the debt keep on growing as they keep dying? something something eternal hell
Exactly. So Iām trying to understand why anyone would reasonably take this deal lol
Cuz youre practically immortal idk
Immortal but in debt sounds bleak af
did they take it willingly?
That seems to be the case
id imagine since the corps seems to recycle everything including the human body, wouldnt be crazy to imagine that they used people asleep in cryo or that were dead but with a brain intact for the shells
like maybe im reaching because of the cinematic but they seem to manipulate their memories too so how would they know if they actually wanted to be in a shell or not
my mind is in too much soma mentality
are all the people from the frist game still frozen in that new area
I feel like immortality made possible by storing or transferring someone's mind might not actually be that great. Sure, their personality and memories persist, but is anything left of the actual original person? Or does each copy/transfer just THINK they are the original and when they die their instance is over?
āMad is the Swordā from the volume II soundtrack has to be a reference to Durandal, right?
my money is whatever is the more grimdark option
This is explored in cyberpunk a bit. When you're uploading consciousness it's only mimicking what you were as a person, during the copying process the second it's done the original is dead and all that remains is a program that simulates who you were
You can't copy a soul
Depends what you mean with soul
a soul is an artifact of an old collective misunderstanding of the purpose of a mind
If you don't hold the religious view of soul, you can absolutely copy one
An uploaded consciousness isn't you it's a copy of "you"
im so glad they separated the arg for yall and the args sake tbh
It wouldn't matter, it is in no way less real than me
way less clutter now
They would have a soul as much as I do
its like saying you and future you and you and past you, or you and alternate dimension you are the same, the difference is experience and continuity.
but it wouldnt be you
it would be a different person
define real
On that I agree, but it wouldn't be soulless
But this conversation is pointless if we don't define "soul" first
unless something explicitly states that when transferring consciousness keeps the original alive somewhere in the lore, im assuming when the copy is made the original dies
Or it may work like in Soma, I don't think we know for sure as now
oh we are the sleeping people and every run were trying to get aceeess to our old data where we remember what we look like as a kid
ya transmat is usually copy delete to maintain definitional continuity, and "same" is maintained by relativity. my fav are scifi that play on this. when the delete function doesnt happen
podcast "Sayer" is a good one
what I meant by "soul" is your very coinciousness in this moment that allows you to be aware of who and where you are. imagine a teleporter that when you use it, instead of transporting you, it makes a copy of you while destroying the original, and prints the copy in the place you are supposed to be "teleporting" to. the copy will think it went successfully and will remember being in one spot and then the next, but may also remember the moments up until the death, so the copy would be aware that they are not the original.
Scientists have managed to teach a clump of human brain cells on a Petri dish to play DOOM. Weāre closer to Marathon than we may think.
reminds me of this game s"soma"
the ship of thesis
ranting for sometime
never played it but i watched a streamer play it ages ago. i dont really remember the plot
soma's great but I never got into it fsr š
It's a deep dive on this specific topic, basically
its really good you can turn down the difficulty i almost had to near the end
I love the whole "post end-stage capitalism" vibe of Marathon and things like Finals but.... isn't it a bit ironic that money is earned with it? xD
tru, tru
the all-consuming irony of it all lol
what's the deal with Rook anyway, I see a Traxus logo on his hand and you level him through Traxus-Levels but are they a shell? Do they have worse qualities than SekGen shells?
не он ŠŗŃŃŠ°ŃŠø мог ŃŠæŠ¾ŠŗŠ¾Š¹Š½Š¾ его ŃŠ±ŠøŃŃ
Each faction has one or more rook upgrades, it's not only Traxus
i think thats kinda the point, the thing that maintains the cycle, extends dark ages before resurgancy, clinging to it, despite it being the cause of the state of things, lack of self awareness to said magnitude
so is it a collaborative thing? I mean who made that thing. Looks UESC but also not. Many UESC logos but everything looks thrown together sloppily
Its a scavenged uesc shell
Hmmm, I wonder if we'll encounter actual UESC shells in the foreseeable future, sth like Dark Souls NPC invaders
but like actually NPCs, not Rooks ;)
Byf dropped a lore video for marathon if anyone is interested, was my main lore source in destiny
Itād be rad to be able to transfer consciousness to a UESC shell and if you survive keep it, but itās not like an unlocked shell
Like, transfer into it for the rest of the match, and only when youāre actually in the match?
That's pretty much rook
have idle animation so you could pretend to be npc
I've used rooks blend ability to get the drop on teams a few times now
Take a shot everytime he says āso ā¦. Yeahā
Rather not die, but thanks
Can someone remind me what year Marathon 2026 takes place? I think it's around 2888?
tldr of the lore in this game ??
this is such a badass tune, the full version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gw982zIEc6U
the gameplay takes place in 2893 i think. and the first cinematic trailer has scenes from way before that in the 2700s
2893 according to the title screens
Thanks! I just started OG Marathon and I was surprised the terminals in that are in the 2300s
its sooo good!
That isnāt the year, itās just a number on the UI
Aliens are real and the first thing humans did was form a cult that became the biggest corporation/goverment entity and then everything went to fucking shit
????
Case in point it still says 2337 in Marathon 2 https://marathon.bungie.org/story/lhowon.html#M2.01.1.1
might of skipped a lot, sounded funnier in my head
Do you think the NuCaloric Cheeseburger is served at room temp or heated up?
it is definitly cold
Its warm once you get to the liquid paddy
Does anyone know any SekGen lore?
Okay that makes more sense!
Sort of a question, why doesnāt UESC send their own forces via runner shells? Or establish colonies that way instead of having to transport real people for hundreds of years
I wonder if UESC will be a contact in a later season
That would be cool, or maybe a playable faction/ alternate character like rook š¤
Also do aliens exist in this universe as implied in the intro?
Yes absolutely
Thatās cool
Thatās what marathon is about
the phfor wiped out Tau Ceti
Oh I didnāt know that
humanity doesnt have ftl travel yet, ftl comms but not travel
Like so the whole point of them getting stuff from these planets is to get to the aliens?
But ftl consciousness transfer right? So why not establish colonies using the runner tech? I assume maybe it wasnāt invented yet prior to the marathons departureā¦
Also have to wonder how long can a runner shell actually live for, I assume since itās designed for the bare minimum it might have a lifespan of days at most
Itād be cool if there was a runner shell for an alien but I donāt know if thatād work ik theyāre gonna put one in every season tho
hello everyone
hows the lore
anything new?
also i thought of something that could maybe do something, theres 6 shells and theres 6 terminals, could we possible need every shell at one of these terminals?
people at #breach-protocol seem to be trying that with rook
is that the new chat for the terminal thing?
yeah, for the arg
thank you
in marathon, isn't the tau ceti system generations away from earth? how long did it take to send us, runners? also, how is our "loot" supposed to get back to them when we recover it? maybe these are dumb questions idk haha
i think we've developed some level of FTL at this point, though i cant be entirely sure
if nothing else i think there's some form of faster travel now
for original marathon ship it took like 300 smth years, when sol recieved the distress signal, it took roughly 80 years for all interested parties to get there. Im not entirely sure how our loot gets back but I think it has something to do with how we extract, the matter dematerializer or whtever
We stowed away on Project Goliath. Basically picture a huge series of shipping containers where Cyberacme was able to smuggle us in.
No like keep it until you die in it, like your gear
Any breakdown of this connects to the original game? This new game looks soo different than the original game im having a hard time wrapping my head around it.
we are literally trying to smuggle inside the uesc marathon
not just story wise, literally doing that right now at #breach-protocol
This is incomplete and still evolving...but it's very nice:
Highly recommend MyNameIsByf on Youtube as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eiJA_CAeA7U
Indeed. The runners know that's where the good stuff is. They're trying to break into it.
https://x.com/i/status/2030504649082511720
grim ass log
What item is this for
unsure
HiddenXperia on YT
selection pressure nucaloric quest
Yes there is
huh
Incorrect
Thank you Ive been slacking on quest
you and me both
been eye deep in logs uploaded by others and arg
Yo anybody know what the marathon c05 prestige key is??
Apparently itās very hard to find but itās a key for the marathon, Cryo archive zone.
Save it if you have it
We (runners) are stored digitally on a vessel capable of FTL travel which was built by Traxus and launched from the solar system 2888/9. It arrived before the present (2893).
Oh sick I do
Source?
Thx gang I picked one up last night so I was curious
Except me, I'm a drinkable cheeseburger
wait wait does the log from selection pressure 1 suggest that the UESC bots were helping spread the contagion through cerberus
Specifically the 26 May 2888, 4:45 section. For some reason I canāt link individual sections like I used to
what exactly is that #breach-protocol thing? you can find terminals to activate?
A gem I appreciate it
its the arg yeah
anyone need a third for the welcome to sekuguchi mission
Scary stuff to be responsible for medical science while faced with mortality and an increasing lack of hope. They were forced to save whatever small comforts they could while dealing with an impossible task. Darius, the nurturing gardener who constantly put others before himself was taken offline, starting to lose hope himself, and heading into the melancholic first stage of rampancy. The Contagion may be influenced or created by the Anomaly if the results are impossible to study and replicate for such a long period of time.
The Marathon expedition was doomed. And if Tau Ceti IV truly is connected to or contained W'rkncacnter, it was doomed before it even began.
Anybody find the severed twins books on outpost? So far was only able to extract with one.
that mission almost made me lose hope lmao
damn apparently the contagion mutates living tissue, and its specifically targeted against human colonization
how to unlock
Any good lore resources to get caught up? nvm checked pins
sorry for late reply, but thank you for your responses to my questions !
where exactly do we go when we exfil? earth? another ship in orbit of tciv?
I love all of the like psychological and mental effects the planet seemed to be having on people
that's... a really good question, actually
Though it seems Gaius was kinda avoiding if it affects humans directly
You go nowhere. Your consciousness goes back to where it is stored somewhere near TCIV
well yeah but what about our stuff? and our shells? like that stuff is still physical matter it needs to be stored somewhere
I think then the new question becomes where that consciousness store is. Corporate owned? each runner has their own private craft? left up to interpretation?
The guns and such probably go to where the shells are created before being sent to the surface while the rest of our good like salvage are prepped to be sent back to the sol system from what I can tell.
But yeah we are currently owned by Cyac until we fulfill our debt. The rest of the corps are a bonus that we work with for more money
oh right forgot about that
if you look back to the cinematic there seems to be like some sort of facility that prints out the shells
the vandal in the video also says "I got a big contract waiting for me down there"
its probably important to make a distinction between our runner and runners in general
if it was a ship though we would probably know about it and i cant imagine were being teleported from Sol so this is honestly quite the lore pickle
is "violent one" W'rkncacnter or our runners?
aint we on tau ceti only because of sekgen?
sekgen makes the shells but its reasonable to imagine if they didnt someone else would
I am pretty sure we are in orbit somewhere. I canāt imagine where though since we havenāt expressly been told where yet? I would be stoked if one of the codex entries makes note of it though. Perhaps if we are somewhere on the marathon we will find where we are stored? But then we would be vulnerable to so much that I canāt realistically see it that way. Besides they make mention of us having traveled here for the express purpose of exploiting what has become of cascadia
That wouldnāt make sense because in the cinematic theyāre doing grounding exercises with oni in their shells. Pretty much where your lobby is before you tele to tau ceti IV. . Edit: not tryna sound like an ass just trying to prevent any misinfo.
There is definitely some sort of hub somewhere that weāre coming from
the W'rk is described as "hungry chaos" but never violent, i think it's referring to the runners.
yeah the shell goes with the consciousness if you exfil normally
its only if you get killed the consciousness gets shunted
dont you just forget what happened? ur consciousnesses is stored somewhere untill it gets updated with new info
can you elaborate?
i wonder if people save their souls or is it just the cyberpunk soulkiller situation
im not sure exactly what point you're making an argument for or against
not an argument, just a question
From the way they describe it, it sounds like it is really the person themself. I need to read the codex entries again but they point more towards this too but are weird on other things like a FAQ for cryosleeped individuals being āWas I dead?ā Even though they obviously didnāt die. It says cope with it however you spiritually must. So strange honestly.
what is exactly a consciousness in our runner? is it a copy of our mind stored in the shell that just comes back to the original source when we extract?
It is our actual consciousness rather than a copy that shares what happened when we return to the source
we cant copy souls, one must be dead
From what I gathered, when you die, you still have memory of the death and the ones before. Itās just overtime your memory gets foggy eventually forgetting your core memories. Like our identities. In the cinematic vandal says to get the exercise over with so she can complete some more contracts, she also remembers her mom, but not herself.
im pretty sure thats because each shell's personality replacements costs memories about yourself, they gotta somehow change your whole character
Kind of like how with AI the longer the conversation goes the more it forgets and hallucinates. Which I think is why oni tries to remind them in the cinematic.
they remember the parents because they dont affect the personality that shell offers
Getting murdered is pretty traumatic as well being an addition to that. It is very clear the shells let you experience all senses as if it were a real body.
Probably contributes massively to the memory loss over time
Great analogy

imagine your an introvert person and then you get snapped alive into a popular person's body, would you still spend your time like the guy did?
The shells were tailored to each person though I donāt think they get to choose which shell they are. Or am I reading that wrong?
It would be cool to get a name but itās implied the ship is a converted cargo ship (perhaps in an inversion of the Marathon not being used as a CRIST) so the name of probably not interesting.
nah, as i know, each shell has a "personality" to keep owner sane(for example void is quiet and in "its not my business" stuff) i mean that each person has to forget their "me" to have the shell's personality
Gaius is genial, polite, and represents an organization that clearly cares about humanity while being incredibly sinister. There's a reason his eyes are red. Key thing to remember is that it's in NuCaloric's best interest to not only recoup their investment costs, but have as many people literally consuming their food and agricultural products as possible.
ok but what does that have to do with what I said
I see what you mean. Canāt wait til we learn more about ts cause it gets deep.
them remembering their parents but themselves kinda proves my point, but anything can happen, anyways, good luck
Gaius is very interested in figuring out what happened and the Dire Marsh/NuCaloloric quest line shows that while there's a lot he and his organization don't know, he's also likely obfuscating things to an extent. Though nowhere near the same level as say, Mida and SekGen.
The Mida grafitti all over Tau Ceti VI is...concening. Especially considering it's around Outpost.
were normal people sent to tau ceti? or just scientists?
anyone could up2date in tldr how are we with the terminals on perimeter?
they are still exploring the website i guess, i personally wonder who is the "violent one"
Most of the ānormalā people when they arrived were BoBs (born on board)
well then there should've been a thing they hated corps for
The leadership/specialists were frozen from Earth
Regarding MIDA and the Marathon, they infiltrated its construction and planning. Theyāre responsible for the weapon caches on board and the secret inclusion of cyborgs. Seeing MIDA visibly in the colony is no surprise.
did people guess who was walking/flying on the marathon with the orange cape in the trailer?
Compiler?
Yes, a Sāpht
thanks
Whatās crazy is they made it look tuff to fight in the cinematic, but on the marathon they were pretty common to fight as the mjolnir cyborg lol
And if we have trouble fighting them just imagine the others
actually Durandal transferred himself into a rook and is now chilling in the cryo archive
durandal is max rep with arachne and has a shotgun
Between 24,000 and 30,000 people, with the first number being a newer estimate. There were all sorts of candidates chosen, from scientists and engineers to doctors, military leaders, and systems technicians.
As ONI notes, they were focused on expansion rather than survival and the colony seemed to grow pretty steadily.
A lot of people are BoBs, people born on board the ship. And while most die, Durandel does manage to save the remainder.
Does the uesc marathon still have a lava river
i hope so, it really tied the place together
need 1 who wants to run some games? level 23 here. DM me
I think Mida is trying to resurrect Durandal
You mean Tycho? Durandal isn't dead as far as we know, right?
I think NuCal is trying to bring the drinkable cheeseburger back in rotation for their seasonal menu
I thought this as well but then I realized the personality matrix they were talking about is "Oni" herself. Not a seperate personality on the shell per say. I think they need to clarify what they mean when they say personality matrix just to remove all doubt on what it actually implies. Leaving that up in the air isn't very satisfying.
Durandal is not dead, just divided into shards
So you mean make him whole, got it
For better words, trying to summon him or piece him back together.
Gotcha
Im still trying to figure out the rift anomalies
I like the theory that Bingus is Durandal
Hahaha
Yeah, been reading all the codex, they definitely don't want people knowing what the Anomaly is.
We know so far that UESC is trying to take control of it and they are in a shadow war with traxus
There is also implication that UESC had something to do with the Colony being completly wiped out. They didn't want witnesses to whatever went down
I dont know much about the OG marathon compared to halo, but you couldn't really fracture an AI in halo which shared a LOT with marathon in terms of these elements within the story. You could trap their personality matrix in places though like what happened to Mendicant Bias on delta halo after he betrayed his creators
In marathon rampancy is part of AI evolution
need 1 lets run it boys DM
Evidence?
So it was in halo as well. It was just progressed at a faster place due to the logic plague the flood possessed.
Its hidden in the codex files you unlock
It talks a lot in the lore about Durandal dividing himself to take over different systems
I don't think he is literally divinding himself. Just allocating processing power to different systems like divying up a pie. Kind of how your computer will do so when allocating ram to different programs when it is running.
I have yet to see an entry which talks about Durandal directly so it would be nice to see the text being referred to.
Yea it's ambiguous on purpose
I wonder what the redacted codex entries are actually right now
the wording is meant to confuse
@rose yarrow you are exactly right
yall think Dr. Bernhard Strauss coming back
There are still thousands of humans missing so I wouldn't doubt it
Its been 99 years broski unless hes frozen in cryo
He was in the OG game
@livid lion The lore I am referring to is OG Marathon lore about Durandal just to clarify
You realize what year it is in game?
yea
Durandal said he died in M2 right away
phor still exist
They do
they can have a clone of him
And Im gonna go to the moon tomorrow
The existence of pfhor are def hidden by the uesc
mhm it is cause they know they exist alr cause we MC sent them a message
Huh?
I hope the also go into what's up with the S'pht. One clan defected essentially and took off. And we saw the Compiler in the trailer on the ship
First off it was Leela that sent a message, and doesnt matter Sol didnt receive it since we dont even know the Pfhor were here
they are hiding the pfhors existence from the corpos
Do we consider marathon 3 in these discussions? Seems like with the new game theyāre gonna go over some old story beats anyway to reintroduce people to the marathon story: which felt like halo; and which felt a bit like destiny as well. Probably the smoothest way for them to do that will be through alternate reality stuff from marathon 3. Especially since Durandal is trying to escape the entropy of the universe seems like heās gonna be extra dimensional in some way through this narrative, or use us to get there like in the old games.
Yea, Earth doesn't know what happened in the slightest
mhm
Most people dont because of the alternative timelines but theres a chance this game here is also a alternative timeline
I know whats wrong with the marathon ship It got no gas in it
it could also be we are in a diffrent time line were earth didnt get the message
Leela sent it with the help of the SO
They talked about it a lot when they were releasing the games and the forerunner books and halo games, pretty sure even destiny gets in on alternate realities. I donāt think we can just ignore itās possibility.
Not a different time line
That would align with a neuCal log where a scientist was scared about running out of resources soon
we are probably in the final timeline from Infinity
then they def know about pfhor
Its all connected
And there are mentions of subroutines here too. But the statement I was responding to is unbacked.
Yea @neat kernel and I think it's possible the S'pht are the baddies in this timeline, just a theory. Or this clan is. At the end of the cinematic trailer, he grabs what looks like an effigy of a S'pht compiler made out of sticks and stuff. Made me start thinking..
Also I got to the point where Gaius identified what the contagion is/what it does
I just hope the sāpht are not treated like major enemies but discrete
I hope not either
It mutates living tissue and supposedly was made specifically against human colonization
I like the idea of them helping us actually
But not sure if against humans or their livestock and crops
sounds like the fungal zombie virus!
def some pfhor tech
s'pht
It really does!
Still trying to figure out if the contagion was manufactured by UESC
s'ct'lac'tr
Also I correct myself "The son of Durandal"
They hint that it could have been Logan
yeah the UESC manufactured a contagion to kill their how many quintillion dollar project and first exocolony
Genius
that one bit of lore revealing that there was a fungal blight that caused famines on Earth and Mars in the 24th century raised an eyebrow for me
it was pfhor they had tech to clone humans who explode
@sage lark But whatever the Anomoly is could be too important to let the people back home find out what it is. No witnesses
it was S'pht they had a bioweapon that turned enemies into fungal zombies
Why would the UESC kill themselves as well
All guesses by the way, I have no idea
Same
That's one of the big questions
We will only really know where we are after vault 7
Equanimity arrived in before us slightly and they didnt know what the anomaly was based on logs between Orion and his Admiral
arent spht allies
I just do not get what can be so important in vault 7 we know already all the enemy factions it wouldnt be a large surprise
not necessarily. some S'pht were allies of Durandal, but the S'pht as a whole aren't necessarily allies of humans as a whole.
Time is essentially frozen around the rifts. could lead to further spec about the time line
There are also 11 clans so they sort of have autonomy as far as who they align with
The answer to the anomaly, where the colonists are, why is there a compiler on the marathon and what happened to the colony as a whole
true but what do they have against humanity
More like actors in their own interest like a neutral party such as some megacorps
I can only think of the idea humans becoming more advanced
maybe they came to Tau Ceti because their gods had been there (JJARRO WERE AT TAU CETI) and humans attacked them because they associated them with the Pfhor, so the S'pht just said "fsck these monkeys" and bioweaponed them.
could be that or they just racist
Also dont forgot Tau Ceti IV was supposed to be a paradise
Its weird cuz there is a cult worshipping them apparently
Or was
Wouldnāt that be too early though to explain all that instantly
but jarro were also on earth and the government during that time knew about it 2
yeah and
Idk the story can go in many directions afterwards
Fair since we are so far into the future that is just an unknown now
I just hope after Archive vault 7 we know if we are in a completely new timeline or if this fits into the story before Durandal made the timeline all wacky
they could just go invade earth instead
If this is their ādark towerā entry thatās connecting all their ip together then durandal will probably be our through-line that connects to whatever theyāre trying to do since his story was all about escaping entropy, so if we are or are not the final timeline doesnāt really matter since it seems like Durandal is all that matters we could be timeline whatever it just matters that heās poking around here. Bungie also uses the meta aspect of us playing the character in their games being a form of ādestinyā and Durandal comments on it at the end of 3 I think, so we are just their tools to do stuff. How he talks about bobs sums it up where he basically says their gross but heās stuck using humans for now since they work and itās whatās on hand.
not entropy, big crunch!
My b I though I remember him going off about heat death
everyone gets that wrong
I saw a theory saying the marathon was carrying artifacts from pathway into darkness.
There is also the possibilty that at this point he has been through so many different timelines and "seen it all" and now just wants to figure out how the active the Jjaro superweapon 1000 fold and destroy everything that exsists so he can finally "Escape"
I like that Incubus. That would imply they lied and never destroyed any of them and instead used them to advance out technology to what it is now
maybe the colorful crystal Artifacts in new marathon are related to the colorful Crystal artifacts from pid
and there is a crazy parallel to how we used the tech to build the Marathon and how the S'pht essentially did the same thing
See you In Tau Ceti IV runners
If itās their linch pin series and we proceed with that idea then pathway into darkness is a prequel in some timeline I guess and maybe halo and destiny is some alternate reality if you entertain the idea far enough
they mention the jarro directly
Yea my theory on their stories as a whole is they are all parallel universes to our own.
Yeah totally itās just one of those things thatās not āofficialā but that word gets tossed around so much it ruins the fun. I was legit upset at destiny being released and not marathon so Iām just happy thereās some far flung way they could be connected and Iāve just been playing marathon my whole life
i can't find it now, but i remember someone posting something about being shown a "Compiler graveyard" by someone online in perimeter? with a bunch of idols/makeshift gravestones against the neon blue of the wall. anyone know where that is?
Damn i'd like to find that, sounds like a big hint if so
what if the anomalies has to do with the jarro cause they were at tau cetti.
they can be because destiny has a multiverse
And also to clarify, it's kinda obvious, Earth is in all 3 games, I just meant they aren't just seperate, they all exist together and maybe we happen to cross over at some point? Who knows
mida multi tool made it into destiny
true true they are hinted in marathon to still be alive
I mean both solar systems are sol so
As far as we know the Jjarro are definitely still alive
I just hope there wont be a crossover
I hope not either actually
"JJARO WERE AT TAU CETI,"
I hate when devs cannot keep an ip to itself and always needs to connect into a larger universe
Just meant as more of a confirmation that all 3 worlds run parallel to our own kinda thing
Lore wise
Yeah as far as i know though d2 had some marathon related easter eggs
Yea there are lots of them
Might be just to tease the game
They even did armor sets at one point
What is cool is I know Destiny is confirmed to be at the bare minimum tied closely to our own timeline because they mention the Starry Night. Bill Clinton was president in 1994 in OG Marathon so the timelines are definitely mirrors of our own
what if marathon is a failed version of the gardeners game
anyone else seeing multiple binguses in overflow?
Omg I hope this is true because I have a theory but I feels its way to premature to say
just say it
hey what if Durandal IS the anomaly?
Just using what we know how Durandal kinda operates and the Mural on Dire Marsh, what if he "actually split" his consciousness into 7 pieces (Bingus) and whatever ritual was used to do so caused the Anomaly? 100% a limited theory
could be tbh
like, literally his attempt to escape physical reality resulted in whatever the anomaly is
could also be that happend and the reason why there spth
that would explain the AIs going schizophrenic
yuh cause its interfericng with them
What is the baseline of marathon (all ik is like warhammer and godzilla and dinosaurz)
@cold zenith Yeah I think the S'pht helped him do it
and plus durandal fused with Toth making him even stronger
yeah, but I mean - why would the anomaly somehow affect AIs in the way it does?
what do you mean?
mhm it makes sense
when does cryo drop ?
when the ARGās solved
because they are low level ais compared to durandal who merged with a god ai
and we canāt solve it now because itās timegated
Lore sence
thereās some datamine/API insight, but thatās spoilers
@cold zenith in the mural on the right side, whoever is "stabbing" the green figure is crying. Maybe whoever did it knew what could happen?
well yeah, but what do you mean by baseline?
Like the baseline of the story
true or it could be a phfor
but thereās still no reason why the AI would interfere with the AIs like it does
thatās the point
yeah, i'm annoyed by the fact i can't find this...
cause druandal dont fuck with other ais he sees them as threats
to his immortality
@cold zenith Yea, maybe it was the Pfhor trying to do something, could have nothing to do with Durandal.
Yea he killed Tycho, yea?
true they do have bio engineering tech
which explains the fungus
and help kill lela
One thing we do know for sure is whatever they actually found on Tau Ceti IV when they began studying it was far too important to let that information leak back to Earth. So whatever it is must be crazy
i mean aliens attacking earth is alr crazy
Very true lol
Fungus will be key in the whole story.
basically people have colonised the Moon and Mars, but due to resource drain, weāve kind of fallen on hard times.
because of that a deep-space colonisation mission was launched, the UESC Marathon.
it established a colony on Tau Ceti IV, but soon after itās been attacked by alien slavers called the Pfhor.
long story short, the main guy prevented the Pfhor from successfully taking over the Marathon, and sent a message to Earth that the situation is dire.
meanwhile, thereās another B-Story that kind of becomes very important, about an alien super-AI eldritch being, thatās contained within an actual sun, and wants to get out ASAP.
also, one of the three AIs on board of the Marathon became Rampant (pretty much gained true sentience and self-awareness) and wanted to become God.
and finding 4 different species of aliens also crazy
yup
I mean, the whole first scene of the new Marathon trailer, is literally a runner stomping a fungus, that's an old storyboard technique when you want to demonstrate subtely dominance over something - in this case, corporations over the fungus.
Sidenote I love the lore of this game and I'm stoked to see the discussion, ILY all! Keep digging and enjoying the game!
true it prob is a pfhor bio weapon
me 2 even do I dont have marathon lore is amazing
Not probably, it is a Pfhor bioweapon.
I have the old Marathon 2 concept art books and manuals, and in a lot of them were the Fungus Pfhor, which was a fungus throwing pfhor, which never made it into the original game.
they did have the spht slave dude who was a mutatn
yup then it is pfhor origin
These fungus are actually native for Lh'owon and the Bobs who were in Lh'owon got infected by it when exploring S'pht relics
It was one of the weapons they used against the old clans
oooo lwk makes sense
I like the idea they developed a fungus that infects AI. It is said the colony AI "Slowly degraded" as well as parts of the colony having strange degredation to it
yes
could be like in destiny how a ai got the light so its possible they got inspired by destiny
yes cause the cyborgs were op ash
yea lol
Can someone explain why cryo archive is going to be so gamebreaking ?
I donāt really think the fungus and the AI are connected
thereās a compiler inside
and also some major story twists, so probably Durandal
These were the fungal bioweapon that never made it into the game: https://ibb.co/RpfbcJpT
correction, thereās a GIANT compiler inside
The thing that is throwing me off about the role of the S'pht in the story is that damn effigy in the trailer. Someone made that and that's either reverence or fear.
they are worshiping the spht cause they are a greater race
oo imagine infected runners
That's how Marathon 2 ends.
Yea that's what I figure so far, plus there is the fact we know the S'pht helped the Battleroids on board once they were "purified"
When Robert Blake and the Bob's take a Pfhor spaceship, we don't know where they go, but this fungal infection makes the dead resurrect and go look for new hosts.
He even ends the game saying āThe dead walk again; we cannot wait.ā
I kinda love that they are going back to OG ideas and making them a thing (if this is the case of course)
Seems like a pretty strong case this could be the direction they are taking
zombies in tau
jarro at tau
spht at tau
humans at tau
pfhor at tau whats so special about tau.
We don't know what happened. That story has never been told, it could very well be that the fungal weapon was actually a Pfhor bioweapon that got lost during the attack in Tau Ceti IV.
So its plausible that you discover that there's still a source of corruption from one of these lost Pfhor vessels in TC4
Perhaps the magnetic distortion that was first found at the arrival in tau ceti 4 is something important
I wanna go back and look now, is it said the tri zeem (yes I know that's wrong spelling) only makes Stars go supernova? Maybe they found an energy on Tau Ceti they can exploit that is stronger?
what if tau has a W'rkncacnter or a dead one
THAT would be cool af ngl
and that could explain the anomalies
Inside the planet would make sense as a prison
true
Ooo I don't know why I never thought of that, I love this idea!
and expline the ais going crazy 2
yes
It's very unlikely that Wrk's are in Tau Ceti system. The reason Pfhor went to Tau Ceti was because it was Durandal who called them.
it lwk fits in the story 2
Considering wrkn are described as imprisoned in stars or suns? I dont remember, but it might explain a lot if a wrkn is trapped there i mean why was one in the earth pyramidto begin with
but the jarro were there too
yes and we bombed that one
But it's too big/large of an entity to be in this game, it might have some relevant microplot in the game, but its just to set the lore in.
I think here its going to be more planet-side related.
eh we know its chaos ramapnt
Maybe at least a piece? That is what kicked off the whole thing to begin with, a piece fell to Earth killing the Dinosaurs
yes it could be a peice or a baby one
Ooo a baby one? Interesting.. maybe they use planets to birth them?
Planets = incubators
one thing i was wondering in dire march the planet is cut open at the magnetic field but what is inside the planet then?
yes could be and they can live in a star 2
its from bombs from pfhor
they dropped nukes
Maybe thats why they wanted our government to take it out on Earth, before it "grew up"
Are we sure about that because some say it could have been jjaro tech
I was thinking what if jjaro cut open the planet to search something
no that one was sleeping and it was dreaming/ starting to wake up
I have this theory that these fungus are actually a Pfhor version of AI at biological neural-level.
mhm true could be
ooooo yes but wouldnt they be discreet like in path way into darkness
makes sense cause pfhor are more bio than tech
Is there a chance the ticks originate from the pfhor or fungus?
they remind me of those flying bug aliens from marathon classic
I forgot that but the sāphor or jjaro are they in any kind organic like humans?
Because a codex log says ticks may have been predators in the past targeted to heat emitting enemies
pfhor are bio
jarro could evovle into some else but we dont know
but pfhor and jarro aint from tau
but lawon
lhwaon
The Citadel/Sāpht terminals explicitly place the Pfhor bombardment and Sāpht retreat roughly āa thousand yearsā before the game events. So we know there was bombs dropped, we just don't know if that is what caused the planet to crack
Question ! I dont have the game but i can see the ARGs
Will I still get the full lore?
if i remeber correctly thats the heaven the jarro built
if we consider the ticks log that means something else before humans arrived was at tau ceti 4 something warm that was hunted by nothing larger than ticks
yes
and no
but yes just watch yt videos like me i also dont have it
theres birds and sea life
Didnt know about sea life
so is the MIDA here the same MIDA that we hear of in the destiny universe like the multi tool and mini tool
space shrimp mmmm
i saw a pic of a lobster thingy
yes
they are
they are terroist
Does anyone here know anything about the AI 'Cerberus' ? Was looking through my codex for lore and we have MIDA talking about Orion and Cerberus and a NuCal codex mentioning it too
Oh wait my bad, I think I was looking at what happened on Lh'owon my fault
Cool ! Thanks ^^
I only know cerberus is the uesc robot controlling ai and the ship name and knowing about cerberus is a safety hazard according to logs
Well the ticks, we don't know where they come from, there hasn't been real records from old Tau Ceti on them. In the lore it says it just says it is "assumed" to be native, could be not.
u can try entering giveaways in twitter
hmo
destiny happens YEARS after halo. mida killed the entire martian population. we got the multi-tool via the temporal instabilities on mars, creating a rift to the marathon timeline that has MIDA. the events of marathon happen/start parallel with haloās UNSC, so in marathon either the precursors didnāt exist or the flood outbreak didnāt happen yet
Nah all good
we could have the flood in marathon
yea it was lhowon cause it was a paradies then they went to war and nuked it
Oh wait that explains why the gun model is in marathon i just thought its an easter egg
yeah itās the same gun
the events of the marathon trilogy happen in parallel to HALO but in a different timeline
but thatās just my theory
its jarro are like precursors but ts could all be the old chess board for the winnower and gardner
Yea, I was looking at a different piece of lore I and mixed it up. It does suggest there were large scale attacks from the Pfhor so that could definitely implicate a bombing on the colony but no proof that caused the Anomoly @cold zenith
yeah because they transcend time
each timeline is just a new board
also be spht tech
each flower played differently with the same result
mhm
UESC ai that controls the bots planetside (which is also a war crime by existing)
at some point the timelines have to repeat or converge because we know the end result is always the same
yes cause marathon ends with everyone dying and durandal trying to make it so he doesn't
the temporal anomalies on mars are one of those convergances
yes
destiny ends with the extinction of humanity in one way or another
minus destiny
Durandal describes the Pfhor having conventional AI but that it is pathetically unadvanced compared to human AI
yeah
yea and why they wanted a human ai
marathon could be the first game
I think some fungal virus got underground in some ancient Jarro facility that we haven't discovered yet that's doing the anomaly relatively close to the Dire Marsh. Actually in fact I found some cool hints that this might be true, because in the underground tunnels of Dire Marsh I found some scratched walls noting that the humans there were stomping mushrooms.
halo the second and destiny the current one
You can see a scratched wall done by someone of a boot stomping mushrooms.
ive seen them too
well marathon and halo take place around the same time
same few centuries
Halo is several centuries before Marathon
just a few
weād still see the effects of the flood
around the same time the Marathon departed
The whole multiverse thing from 3 I think will come into play but Durandal for sure finished at least one timeline, the final screen takes place at the final moment of reality and he kind of just acknowledged that he never understood us as a playerās role in his universe at the end of 3. He didnāt get why or what exactly we did even at the end of that timeline. Whatever version of reality from marathon 3 we are in we are probably going to be that ādestinyā he talks about at the end. The whole Durandal storyline was the only real developing story everything else felt reactionary to his agenda in the old games even to the point where we just do what he says cause thereās not another option and he becomes the quest. Itās always felt to me the old games, and then halo and destiny after in different ways, weāre essentially about consciousness and the limits of what human minds can conceptualize in the form of the AI going rampant which basically just means the AI can sense the boundaries of its own mind, like if you could literally not imagine in a certain way and hit a literal physical wall in your mind and it makes them go crazy, conceivably would make human minds that are also digitized go crazy. But then thereās the version after rampancy where they supposedly transcend that and turn stable but in game no one can make it work in a lab and no one can conceptualize what that is like I would even say the ending of 3 could be him not being able to deal with that up to the last moment of reality he basically just sums it all up for our perspective āoutside of his universeā as the player perspective, or maybe he did figure out something and him saying that stuff is literally for us as the players and heās off on some new adventure having transcended āthe endā. Going off of whatās in the games we donāt hear about the other races transcending reality in the way Durandal wants so I donāt know that we can assume anyone else has done it, but we only have that final screen on 3.
Wait. So halo AND destiny are in the same universe??
i see im not that deep into halo lore
macro verse
Possibly same multiverse but I donāt know thereās anything officially saying itās the same timeline
Ohhh ok
macro verse cause diff mutliverse also plays into the idea of the flower game
Does oni lady have to do something with the 'oni game' that released between marathon and halo? cause they have the same name
Macro verse?
in d2 it was mentioted that the gardner and winnoer played the game multiple times
mutliple multiverses that are connected
The Bungie games are a conspiracy corkboard tangle of interrelated references and mythology gags. Hard to say what means what all the time.
oni lady is a ai
Ohh
Honestly I like how crunchy that makes it lol
Playing OG Marathon and I found a terminal that describes what the Marathon actually looks like and I'm a little confused. Is it a ship with giant chunks of moon strapped to it?
same
yes but in the middle of the moon
Okay cool just wanted to make sure I understood that right haha
More like moon with ship strapped to it and I think a big chunk got blown up when the attack happened
fits like 500k people in it
in outpost, there's an exhibit that shows what it looks like
Colony Ship For Sale, Cheap
I think it was 24k people who were on the Marathon
Oh good to know! I gotta get to level 12
even worse
"Cheap." Under the best of circumstances, the Marathon took an incredible amount of resources to maintain
For context, the original UESC Marathon colony ship in the game's lore was designed to carry a total of 24,000 civilians, 1,150 officers, and 50 senior staff to the Tau Ceti system.
brah thats like noting
hi chat i have all 5 xenobiopsies and im gonna transcribe them here aight
Marathon and pathways into the darkness shares the same universe, right?
50 senior staff
1150 officers
24,000 civilian
I don't even know how much hardware goes into keeping the ship going though, or how much storage is dedicated to the colony hardware itself. You definitely don't want your colonists starving. Attrition rate would be enormous without the right support.
it prob was all mainly used for storage
it was in space for 300 years
24,000 civilians doesn't include the BoBs?
Its not like irl colonies where you can just send another ship over if something bad happens, either, this is a non trivial number of lightyears away
no bobs

[SDOR]: Begin recording.
[SDOR]: This is Major Saviel Dorata, assisted by Hanza Blau, performing an exploratory dissection on an extraterrestrial combatant, reference number 003021. Specimen collected following the event.
[SDOR]: Outside of the combat necropsies performed during the contact event this will mark the fourth exploratory dissection of the [REDACTED]...
[SDOR]: Oop... Gabriel... Scratch that last-
[HBLA]: Major?
[SDOR]: [...]
[SDOR]: Right. System... Scratch the last few words of my previous statement from the record. From [REDACTED] to [REDACTED]. Include these mentions and any that follow.
[SDOR]: Will take time getting used to Gabriel's absence up here.
[SDOR]: Whole place feels... quieter... without our friends.
[HBLA]: Infosec says-
[SDOR]: I'm not challenging the necessity. Just adjusting to the reality. Probably best we focus...
[HBLA]: [...]
[SDOR]: After you...
[HBLA]: Yeah. Yeah... The, um... The specimen is 193 centimeters long-or tall, rather-and weighs 72 point... Let's call it six... 72.6 kilograms. It presents a mixture of both arthropodal and vertebrate characteristics. The subject is hairless and has no finger- or
toenails. It is bipedal, so it has been arranged on the examination table adaxial side up.
[HBLA]: Open when ready, sir.
[SDOR]: [...]
[SDOR]: I'm making the primary incision from the approximate location of the acromial process down and over to midline center. And now from the other side and down past the- Well, there's no umbilicus.
BoBs by definition wouldn't be part of the initial crew
[SDOR]: The epicuticle is more of a very thin and extremely flexible cartilaginous material. Approximately 3.5 to 5 millimeters thick. Its connection to the procuticle, the hypodermis, is more waxy than fatty. Which goes a long way towards explaining lack of mobility in the epidermis. Reflection of the epidermis is much easier than on a- mammal.
[SDOR]: The thickness and rigidity of the subject's procuticle preclude the use of a scalpel for gaining access to the thoracic cavity. Therefore, I will be using angle-bladed utility scissors. [SDOR]: I'm going to start the incision right under the edge of the exoskeleton, behind the last abdominal segment and continuing up through to the top of the thorax.
[SDOR]: There is a fair amount of crunching. Once the body is open, I will be able to determine whether this is due to the thickness of the chitin, or if there were additional subsurface structures that I inadvertently cut through. I am ending the incision at the base of the head capsule.
[SDOR]: We are using ligating forceps attached to magnetic restraints to hold the abdomen open. Not ideal, but it's what we have...

pfhor
agh i gotta take care of something ill transcribe the other 4 afterwards
i think its simulacra
sounds like a pfhor trooper dissection. they're bugs with chitin shells
wuts that
In M1 itās hollowed out, being compared to a similar conversion of asteroids into spacecraft called CRISTs (Deimos is after all likely a captured asteroid). The Marathon has under on a significant, and purely visual, design change with the new game.
ok put a pin in this ill get you all the other 4 entries in a little less than an hour
Question's more about the new game than the lore itself, but if you're a lore nerd how do you unlock all that stuff as quickly as some people can?
"Frog blast the vent core" guys that explode
do you just have to be really good and play solo a lot to get exploration and contracts done?
O7 ty very much. Iāve been waiting for the other four
oh yes the clones
yea the simulacra where human clones
so traxus is deemed as the most wealthy and powerful company in marathon, but why? What influence do they have and what do they provide? Cyac had a software monopoly and nucal provide fundamentals, and sekaguchi do shells but what does traxus even do??? Are they like a distributor?
this is my secret weapon, sometimes i will go make food for 5min at the start of a solo lobby. then i come back and it's easier
Looking at our world, traxus might be like the "Amazon" of marathon right?
Mining, refining, manufacturing, construction. Especially of everything space related.
they help make buildings and nano tech
yes
Oh that makes alot of sense
what's the cris again
Also yes, bulk transport. Think Maersk but they own everything to make their own ships at their own shipyards with steel from their own refineries from iron they mine themselves
the gaint ships they send to mars
Honestly they sound alot like the uesc just without being a governmental body
Marathon implies everyone is nearly as bad as everyone else so that is likely a true assessment
yea they basically are and they had the first ai rampancy
traxsus 4 i think

gotta babysit a puppy my folks just adopted. if shes chewing on my fingers shes too busy to be licking electrical outlets or something
yup, with traxus at least you get to be exploited for profit
We got all these corrupt ass villians that try justify themselves and fight for their own and then we have just Arachne who are comic book levels or unhinged evil š, they just kill cause ye
I really want to find out more about Arachne's religion
It must be deeper than that
well i remember seeing on twitter a theory that arachne worships the compilers due to the strange amount of red symbolism shared between them
What are the compilers again?
Genuinely terroristic. Bernhard Strauss is at least partly responsible for the entire story by experimenting on/torturing Durandal. Planned at one point to hijack the Tau Ceti colony and the Marathon for unknown purposes.
Arachne is interesting they have the most sympathetic message as a player since everyone else is using you but Arachne is a death cult in a culture where we are told death is impermanent. It is all subjective tho. If you had the skills and tools to design a 1:1 copy of yourself and were then able to download that copy to another place, like a synth body as a copy, who is to say which one of you is the real one. Except that likely each will be an individual conscious at some moment of time. So you could all be real and any one of you dying is a real death, or maybe not.
he was mida thats why
s'pht footsoldiers that shoot energy from their chests. codex logs show that some colonists began to worship them as apart of their own religion
and deimos was mars orgianly
Are the weird plants that explode alien shrooms?
Ah from marathon 1 right?
yup
Nice
It will be interesting to see a shell class use them in some way š
yes
Noice
So arachne just embrace death because they know change is impossible, to a point where the players existence causes cognitive dissonance. Kinda sad. It's weird cause killing shells doesn't actually kill the runner for real but it does seem to really mess up their psych
Yup. They even hear voices! So f up
even the cyac ai (I forgot the namek try to regulate the runner's mental torment using affirmation at the start of a run
Cyan ai ?
Cyber achme
Ohhh the food ai ceo lol
aint that NuC
Yep
skinning people isnt even bad we are just Kind of Mean
Cyber achme is the starting faction that is the software monopoly of every device
And shell
Assert: you are loved. Assert: you can do anything.
His ceo was human b4 rigth?
Assert: everyone else isn't special, but you are
The tone it delivers this line was really mean girl coded
Lmao
What would you call the art style of marathon?
Yea. He was a human b4 being an ai, rigth?
Pysicodelic
Yerrr you're right
no its just a ai they made
So much speculation atp mfs confusing each other
Not so much
graphic realism
Ive just seen neo y2k
CyberAcme just goes so hard for a cyberpunk corpo name
Is just that they are still so many thing to find out!!
Some mfer at bungie watching wiley coyote: "damn acme be making everything. Hold on...."
I donāt remember CyAc from the originals though I remember Traxus and Mida
Hy, and Gus moraine was human
He was the founder
It was written as CAS (CyberAcme Systems) on the terminals
Hy and gus?
Hell yeah*
Oh
Anybody find any of the severed twins books?
Severed twins books ? (Holly molly I am so behinde lol)
I just found one yesterday lol I havenāt been on since
Pretty dark log but Iām not understanding what itās about
I think the cinematic video implies we are being lied to about how the shells work and our own consciousness since the child photo for both characters were the same and they talk about the shells having a predetermined personality that compliments their play style. My theory is we might be a new cheap mjolnir type or they are using peopleās consciousness as a tool in a similar way. We arenāt as powerful as a proper mjolnir but thereās any number of reason for changing to shells. I just doubt our characters have a real hand in their fate at this point and we are being manipulated, which would be on theme for bungie games.
but what is a "severed twin"
No idea. Iāll paste the log here in a sec.
OHHH is a log! Ok i know what that is lol
That's concept is scary, reprogramming parts of our brains to be slaves
Ok um I am gonna ask an weird question now: sooo... can shell's have EJEM... do ADULT stuff ? lmao
honestly? physically no, but i wouldnt doubt that theres a way for them to feel the same sensations
Makes sence

Once upon a time, a castle stood atop a lonely peak. The castle belonged to a cardinal, whose lofty title demanded red stone, red furnishings, and red banners. During pale sunsets, the castle Leered bloody and bright from the mountainside.
A thief crept through the castle's silent red halls. Bony fingers clutched his prize: a thin canvas bag containing a ruby reliquary.
He thought not of the contents rattling within nor the legends of a haunting curse, only the hunger gripping his guts. The thief snuck toward the cellar, trying to ignore the voice haunting his steps.
sever. vanish. drift.
Strange words followed him from red stairwells into burgundy shadows.
The narrow stone confines offered no relief from the whisper.
vanish. drift. bleed.
The thief crawled on his hands and knees through a tunnel in the cellars, dragging his burden behind him.
drift. bleed. YEARN.
The reliquary screeched in protest, and a piercing wail answered throughout the castle. But the thief was already free, tumbling from the tunnel into the frigid night air. With the wail still echoing in his ears, he ran for the road as fast as his legs would carry him.
He did not see the trail of ghostly blood oozing through the canvas and splattering the ground. Nor did he feel ephemeral flesh tearing as the distance from the castle became too great to span.
The thief ran, praying that what he'd stolen was a jeweled box and nothing more.
Lol
Thatās just log one
Ooooh ! I see I see
I don't think shells feel physical pain, so I don't think they would feel other senses that require contact
I don't think that's a too far stretch
But they have personalytis
personality is just what's uploaded to their shell from their original body that is held in a buffer when initiating psyche transfer, when the shell dies the mind is instantly edjected Ito cyber achmes buffer zone and back to their previous body.
So when a shell dies the person doesn't actually die.
But it causes psychological trauma
Makes sence
This is why you can be resed after dying from your death box, your body is re uploaded to the shell from the buffer state back into your shell
I learnt alot of this information from the codex
But seeing the "death is just the biginning" music video i REALLY doubth that they fell "no pain"
I recommend you do the same if you're interested in the lore
The moment they go to the ship and one of them loose an arm they start to twitch like they DO feel pain
aight im back
the body's twitching may be s physical response from the biological matter but this body and matter is separate from the user and it's isolated, death or a shell is documented In codex
So what are the chances that when we enter cryo archive we find out that runner consciousnesses are actually stored there or the conciounsesses of runners originate from people that existed aboard the marathon? Triage seemed to have an extremely strong connection with the marathon in the cinematic and the message we decoded in the new arg says we must 'go to what was once home'
How do you do the arg?
i saw graffiti that said and im paraphrasing "if you don't forget they'll kill you. if they can't kill you they'll make you forget". runners may be more than what they're presented as

TOPIC: Exploratory Dissection, Extrasolar Specimen, ref. #003021 SUMMARY: Continued surgical investigation of a specimen of unknown extra-planetary origin.
[SDOR]: continuing our look into 003021, the entire ab- thorax. Haemocoel? Anyway, it is completely filled with a translucent pale- yellow hemolymph or hemolymph-like fluid or plasma.
[HBLA]: It's reacting with the atmosphere-becoming more opaque. No change, or at least no other noticeable changes-no thickening or clotting. Looks like-um-480 milliliters.
[SDOR]: The esophagus leads from the mouth to the, I really don't want to call it a crop, but the food storage area. That isn't any better...
[HBLA]: Are those lungs?
[SDOR]: Well, it's not the caeca, those are lower, but without a diaphragm- Remove them, get them to bioscience for a more thorough Look.
[SDOR]: The crop is, of course, connected to the proventriculus. So, this is most likely the gastric caeca. Which leads directly to the mid gut. The mesenteron, where nutrient absorption would take place. Though this one is oddly pale. I've seen nine of these opened up and the mid gut is typically a dark maroon or purple color. I've only ever seen one other one this pale.
[HBLA]: Could be injury related, maybe? You saw them in the field, so to say, right?
[SDOR]: Yeah. Could be. Could be injury related.
[SDOR] I want to note there is a relatively thick layer of striated muscle all throughout here. Thicker myosin layers overlapping thinner actin filaments, ranging between 10 to 13 millimeters. There are what appear to be quite a few fat bodies distributed throughout the thorax.
[HBLA]: It doesn't really follow the terrestrial arthropod plan that closely. The abdomen is-
[SDOR]: Right.
The discord has a thread about it
[SDOR]: The abdomen, if this were a terrestrial arthropod, seems almost- well, not even almost, it's essentially vestigial. It really just seems to be there to accommodate the exit to the Malpighian tubules and excretory system and more fat bodies.
[SDOR]: There are regular ligament structures attached to all the internal organs. Performing the same function as the peritoneum or mesentery. And here we have the ventriculus, the ileum, the colon. Or I'm assuming we do. We'll know more once bioscience has had some time with them. There's nothing resembling the parietal pleura or
mediastinal, though the anchor points to the myosin layer are... really interesting.
[HBLA]: It's too bad we don't have access to any living specimens.
[SDOR]: What do you mean?
[HBLA]: For observation. I'm not saying... look, vivisection is-
[SDOR]: Stop recording.

i saw this do we know what it is
not familiar with all the aliens i only really know the compiler tbh cuz its int he trailer
someone said it sounded like a pfhor footsoldier
I was speculating on this before launch it seems clear to me from the reveal cinematic that vandal and assassin have some prior connection that they are not supposed to remember and I speculate that they were the people in the car prior to becoming runners due to their shared connection with the music that the car people were listening to before their deaths, assassin even says 'it speaks to me' and when he is given the photograph of vandal as a child he does not know who it is but he does know that it is not him
escape will make me god, is this literal or metaphorical?
what is a literal god?

[SDOR]: Begin recording.
[HBLA]: This is the most complete subject we've seen.
[SDOR]: Of the type? Yes.
[HBLA]: It's larger than I would've-
[SDOR]: Hard to imagine the scope of them... of any of it, really. Until face-to-face-
[SDOR]: Makes me wonder how I would've reacted to encountering any of them outside of a slab.
[HBLA]: Can you imagine?
[SDOR]: Orem and their team were aboard during the event. They reacted in real time. Two days of, essentially, combat triage and emergency xenobiology-
[SDOR]: But they weren't lucky enough to have a full specimen to examine.
[HBLA]: Is this the first and only full subject of its kind?
[SDOR]: To the best of our current knowledge. Security is still sweeping every corridor for threats and evidence, so no telling what else they'll find, but as of now... This is our only go at a shrouded specimen.
[SDOR]: All reports from survivors suggest the subject has built-in immolation mechanics. They typically just.... disintegrate... when fatally wounded. A failsafe against... maybe against up-close observation of the species. So, we're lucky to have this opportunity at all.
[SDOR] The theory is a theory anyway- We're still early in our assessment of the event across multiple command investigations, so, theories are plenty and answers are- Well, it's our job to find some.
[SDOR]: But the theory is... These... more complex... specimens are of unique value to the invading species. We've only opened remnants of any of them-pieces, like debris, but never a full subject, due to the- the-
This is a line which was spoken by durandal in the originals he sought to become a godlike figure by escaping the rather limiting systems of the marathon and essentially controlling the universe with jjaro tech I believe
Escaping the physical restraints that numb the runner or the colony's as a whole
[SDOR]: Yes. Yeah. Due to the fact they basically self-destruct upon death-or, as we're starting to find-something more akin to systems failure.
HBLA: This one's systems have yet to fail, then... Is it still alive? Are we ?
[SDOR]: Alive? Online? We'll find out, but, yes, for all we know of the subject... it is still alive and functioning. So, we'll need to complete the dissection carefully and quickly.
HBLA: And if it "self-destructs" during the procedure? Isn't-
[SDOR]: Again... Carefully. Quickly. We'll be learning as we go. And trying to avoid losing any digits or limbs should we trigger its burndown.
[SDOR]: Are our tools set?
HBLA: Prepped and ready, sir.
[SDOR]: Room secure?
HBLA: Systems isolation complete. Subject and all equipment are supported within a closed cycle. You are cleared to begin when ready.
[SDOR]: Okay, then. I'm requesting all security personnel to stand ready. The procedure is about to begin, and we may require immediate attention should the subject display any unexpected responses.
[SDOR]: Here we go.

SPEAKERS: Orem, S. [ID: SORE]
TOPIC: A Deeper Consideration of the Unknown
SUMMARY: A colony scientist continues to express concern/disbelief in response to knowledge gained after the contact event.
[SORE]: We... Humans... We are not perfection. We are meat and frivolous biology.
[SORE]: They... At first, I- We all... thought they were machines- advanced clone-types built for... for- I can't begin to guess. We can't know... But built- They seemed-appeared-built, not born.
[SORE]: Then we took a closer look...
[SORE]: [...]
[SORE]: Under scalpel you see, they are organic... Augmented with cybernetics, but... but to a lesser degree than one would assume.
[SORE]: It's It's hard to comprehend the intricacy of their biology... purpose-built and defined... inside and out... to function in... They function in ways we can't begin to map. Their organs... Their nervous system... Systems! Their entire biological make-up is akin to a complex- a network of connections and... and drivers, servers, operating mechanics... it's all so technical and precise...
[SORE]: We see, clearly, upon examination that it is all organic... The "cloak," the "orbus"... it's all... But how...?
[SORE]: The product of bioengineering we can't grasp? Surely. But what if it's more?
[SORE]: The current ruling theory is bioengineering- forced, disciplined, and directed evolution. But then, again... By whose hand? Or even... Is "who" a lazy assumption? Maybe we should be asking, "by what?" The mind reels at the thought. Mine, anyway.
[SORE]: Or... Are they simply the byproduct of evolution in their wholly unique ecosystem, and, if so, would we over time... millennia... equal even a fraction of their complexity?
[SORE] I fear, in these early moments, we may never know.
[SORE] I fear... my own ability to understand... Not just mine, ours as a whole... as a species... Will lead to.... I don't know. Doubt. Surely. Madness? Here, now... I'd say likely.
[SORE]: We came to alien worlds expecting wonder. We simply never imagined this.
[SORE]: And why did they come? Over the totality of human history... Why here? Why now? Tau Ceti is removed from Sol, but not so much that such advanced beings wouldn't have stumbled upon the white noise of humanity's ambitions.
[SORE]: Is it because we have transgressed? Is our... Is our presence here a sin?
[SORE]: Are they just like us... explorers? Was our meeting an accident? Or something more?
[SORE]: Did they come here... [REDACTED]... out of curiosity?

Just logging the spht
ok thats all 5 xenobiopsy entries
Iām assuming, right?
ill let the people smarter than me figure that part out
its fascinating regardless
That sounds more like the autopsy of a standard Pfhor.
istg i walked out of outpost with literally 2/3rds of my inventory being valuables after all my friends dumped them on me in favor of guns and implants
this was all in a single run
@pliant granite I think that comes from the lore that when an AI goes rampant it will exponentially expand into all available systems which is why a smaller scale AI dies out quickly from being discovered and shut dow. Thereās an indication in logs about the potential next step after rampancy but itās only theorized. Durandal potentially evened emotionally out over the eons of time so I donāt think we would consider him rampant at the end of 3 so potentially having enough āspaceā to expand into during rampancy calms them down. But even then he wasnāt omnipotent he still talks about not knowing what was up with our character.
Do phor have cloaks as well?
"Cloaks" can be anything.
Anybody in the process of theory crafting about the new map? I have a in game screen cap of this bedroom that's different than all the other bedrooms in dorms
But then again, its likely, I mean, there's a compiler in the trailer.
Iām only familiar with the compiler having a cloak from the original game and to now.
Yeah Iām certain that cloaks are only apart of the spht
I hope we get some exotic posthuman runners in the marathon universe https://www.reddit.com/r/Marathon/comments/1rnv0h3/considering_humanity_in_the_marathon_universe_is/
Anyone else think we're going up against Mjolnir Recon 54 aboard the Marathon?
Just looking at this: https://marathongame.fandom.com/wiki/Timeline#Ancient_History
and noticed this:
2794
July 3: Tau Ceti IV colony attacked by the Pfhor.[3]
0820: Pfhor attack the Marathon.[3]
0830: Pfhor board the Marathon. Marathon personnel instructed to arm themselves.[3]
July ?: The Pfhor attack on Tau Ceti IV is repelled thanks to the efforts of Mjolnir Recon 54 aboard the Marathon and nine Mjolnir Mark IV Cyborgs on the surface of Tau Ceti IV.[4][3]
October 25: Pfhor return to Tau Ceti. Tau Ceti IV colony destroyed. Tycho falls in with the Pfhor and Leela is captured. Nine Mjolnir Mark IV Cyborgs destroyed.[1]
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ONE ON BOARD THE MARATHON?
you literally play as him in the old trilogy
you see exactly what happened to him
(forced vacation to the galactic core, followed by weird timeline shit)
lore question: when your character isn't in the middle of a run, where are you? Are you sitting in some hideout or base or a spaceship or whatever in a shell, or are you just in data form when not working?
Has anyone else seen the rings that appear in the distance on Dire Marsh?
Marathon is getting review bombed on Metacritic, many of the 0/10 reviews even admit they haven't even played the game bizarrely. I just dropped a 10/10 review to counter them. If you got a spare moment and like the game feel free to join the cause. I really don't like review bombers, negative feedback is fine but not hate.
I think WeaveWorm is such an interesting concept
Ty very much again
Of note from M1
The science staff had difficulty finding a good specimen of the S'pht, or compiler, to autopsy. The only specimen autopsied was almost completely destroyed, but it was obvious that the compilers are cyborgs of some kind. The biological component of the compiler is so closely linked to the machine that it could never survive without it. The compiler's actual body is very small, resembling closely a mammalian brain, except that the neurons are much finer and far more complex.
These logs reflect this description of the events
Shell, wherever they make them. In the cinematic where the players are speaking to oni. Not sure where that is exactly but youāre not just sitting in some computer.
some of these autopsies sound like pfhor, the ones with yellow hemolymph and arthropod anatomy, but the cloak and orb and intricate nervous systems bioengineered are definitely spht
but I am bothered because in M2 we see images of spht without their cloaks and such, suggesting that those are not part of their anatomy but armor or clothing, and sphtkr defenders wear different armor entirely, with BTS images showing the same uncloaked spht bodies inside of them, and inside of the cloaks too.
In the cinematic vandal says she has contracts ādown thereā so Iām assuming itās some other ship orbiting tau ceti IV. Maybe theyāll reveal it once we get to the marathon.
True but also a change already made with the recent trailer for example.
Though again, organic =/= part of their body. Thatās definitely what theyāre going for at the moment but the words are multivalent enough to permit it merely being produced by the machine-body in the future
Whatās with the worm?
goodnight yall ima prep for bedtime have hella stuff do tomrrow
is the game laggy for u guys ? i cant play its very laggy for me
They produce and weave the silk used to make runners.
Sāpht being half cybernetic have many physical forms, with the Fālikta being a distant evolutionary ancestor. For some the cloaks could be more grafted than worn.
runs good with everyone ive talked to
Well theyāre experiencing lag. Not that this channel is for this.
fair
I gotta say, NuCal might have my favorite story missions so far. These AI audio logs are terrifying
Something is so unfathomable that itās scared an AI with no embedded emotionā¦
the general shell entry that explains how shells work, where is that codex located?
i unlocked it yesterday but cant seem to find it again to read it
Does anyone know if there are any additional priority contracts in the game once you wrap up the first batch? Sitting here wondering if theres more to the story or if they pulled an arc raiders and skimped hard on quests
don't attempt the traxus ones, they're for dedicated crews of three. pre-mades.
but yeah seems like there's huge batches of them but you need reputation to access further sets
at least there'll be lore nerds out there cataloguing whatever the traxus contracts show lore-wise
Mfw I've done multiple traxus contracts solo
I JUST managed to do the first two
but the one with the transport drone is meant to turn you around and say "hey, you need to stop without getting crew members to guard you."
you're dealing with UESC. you're dealing with other runners watching it. you're also dealing with the fact you need to exfil or it's all lost. You're either trying to get an absolute perfect storm of circumstances to get it done or you can sit there trying it for several thousand hours before it goes right. I'm moving to another corporation for now
it all resets with the contracts anyway so you're really only doing it to get the lore out. as long as someone has, we're fine. even better if it can all be sent to marathonstory
marathon is a stress management game
yes it's all about how much you can stress out the other players
i dunno man if bungie wants to deliver a story with these contracts they need to have a rethink of the traxus ones in particular. nucaloric seems to be the standard to aim for. traxus ones seem more like end-game challenges than "investigate this for us"
MIDA's not too bad. Arachne is just luck and violence but you get them done eventually
if this is only the first set of traxus contracts, imagine what the last ones must be like?
IN A SINGLE RUN:
"Find 20 rare or rarer salvage items on the Marathon"
"Remove a self-erasing drive from the butthole of each of the UESC commanders aboard and return them to the DCON within 25 sec."
"Exfil with a full bag (must be taken from another runner):
Iām loving the lore so far. The whole concept of being a human āRunnerā on earth or Mars and jacking into a Shell to run around on another planet to basically loot tech and valuables for a group of corporations is cool
have a quest where arachne is requesting an item called mjolnir unit blackbox, however its not listed under collectibles for any map so it could be cryo archive, which may mean theres a mjolnir unit/security officer in cryo archive???
This is kinda the standard for late game extraction shooters, marathon is simialr to cod's dmz mode that had insanely hard borderline impossible contracts, nothing i've seen is as gnarly as those
i totally forgot about dmz.. that was one of the first extraction shooters lol
Sounds suspiciously like a battleroid
Extracted with one of the Temporal Fragments, does anyone know what they do?
Codex entry
Unrelated, but, we could call Triages drone H.E.A.T.H
Do we know any lore implications yet, or is it all speculation?
Like:
Health
Emitting
Associate
That
Heals
or smth
Nup, still speculation
is the unsent missives valuable in pinwheel command wing supposed to have lore attached?
spoilers, but it at least it seems like during the alpha or server slam hiddenxperia was given the chance to do all of the contracts
so if you can't do them yourself I guess you're not missing on lore if you're worried
don't know of anyone else who's managed to do them yet, could even be possible bungie let him do them all with other players disabled so the lore doesn't get lost
I saw that item on one of the alpha videos, it was called originally Battleroid Blackbox or something like that, i'm assuming it's the same item
Question for those of you digging into the Sekgen lore when completing contracts. Spoilering for people who haven't gotten to Parasitism 5/5 and completed it.
|| Does anyone know fully how the SIMbiont works? It seems that it is supposed to now be a part of your shell when you first get it despite the disposable nature of the shell itself? How do we still have if it we are killed and return to a new shell afterward? Did that process where you had to wait for it to acclimatize while fighting off the UESC give it time to upload code to your consciousness stored off world or some such??" ||
Yeah there were a bunch of battleroids on the Marathon
i think this game takes play in another time line of destiny? does anyone else think that or just me
Two video feeds up on cryoarchive.systems'
The second one may have the ghostly digital remains of the Compiler we know is in this section of the Marathon
nope, marathon came before destiny
also consider anything about the bungieverse invalid until confirmed otherwise excluding pathways toward darkness to marathon
Does anyone know a source I can use to catch up on the ARG? I was caught up on most of the stuff that happened the first day and have been busy ever since,,
Third just came through. There is also a print screen option within the feed
I'd like to know this as well
honest to god nucal might be a sad story at heart
the optimization and philanthropy part always irked me
did gus really know about the manufacturing processes of his products?
no way he'd allow anything remotely called "post-consumer solids"
"What exactly are they testing in defence of TAU CETI IV and to what end?" Pfhor invasion
idk if this has been asked before, but is it ever confirmed where are the runners physically located? I know we are teleported to the raid areas, but there's just no way the runners are produced in Sol and teleported this many light years away, there has to be a few new ships orbiting and producing/vaulting shells and their loot right?
I believe that is literally the Marathon
The corps keep saying that their consciousness is downloaded to the shells and ejected before death I think.
I'm calling shenanigans on that I think its just really fancy VR and they're liars
I know there's Marathon, obviously haha
But they probably don't have Sekiguchi printers do they
All the Corps except maybe NuCal are unreliable narrators anyway, especially CyAc.
I think all the corps had a part in making the Marathon
Well, others are worse than CyAc but that's beside the point
does Durandal saying "so many Marathons yet to run" imply a time loop or a time shift?
If you watch the cinematic you see them being printed on the Marathon
so the Lobby, where the runner is walking and waiting to be deployed is like a virtual space? I assumed it was a literal place š
I saw a video talking about how Marathon infinity splits into different timelines so maybe
Its supposed to be some corporate dystopia where they're trying to convince you that selling your rights for cash is worth it and you have amnesia
And I guess you're in some weird cybernetic arrangement where the corps are lying I'm basically certain
trying to book it to all six access points by yourself is kind of a pain to do, doing it with rook and even doing it with 10 minutes left on the timer is cutting it close
I also think it is a literal space on the Marathon, because if you think about how big the station actually is, it is plenty big enough to give each runner the equivalent of a studio apartment
But if weāre just being deployed from the Marathon why do we need to find a way to get into the Marathon from Tau Ceti?
But that is an interesting idea @scenic summit is proposing about it all being in VR. I would just be question what purpose of it being all in VR would be for the corps?
but aren't "shells" a relatively new thing? the marathon couldn't possibly have the technology to produce them... Although I love the Idea of having my own room
To store your loot lol
From what I have seen in the timeline shells were already a thing before the Marathon was created
ohh I didn't know that, in the intro I kinda got the idea they specifically made to loot the abandoned colony
I believe the search for immortality was the shells true purpose
unlikely, liminal space stands more as if we're deploying directly from the marathon there'd be no need to explore it
yes it's a moon and a half wide, no there's still no need to raid it cuz why would corps drop us from a spot they don't know
Explore what? The Marathon?
isn't it more so we're being beamed directly to Tau Ceti from some point on Earth since the exfils turns matter into atomic particles to travel faster than light?
didn't you say we're dropping from the marathon lol
Yeah, the Cryo Archives are on the Marathon, going planetside to get to somewhere we could just walk to would seem kinda redundant.
In my opinion
-
"Downloading your consciousness" isn't a thing. You'd die in the transition to data and that's not how the human brain works, so that's out for me and if someone tells me that they're going to try I'm saying no and running very far away. Its like claiming a Star Trek transporter makes sense in a hard science way- "realistically" you'd die when you're disassembled and then you'd be cloned when you're reassembled somewhere else if their explanation is taken at face value. Its just a plot convenience that sci fi transporters/teleporters don't kill people.
-
Even if you could, you're risking the entire runner every time they go down to the planet to some mishap if the failsafes don't trigger. VR is safer.
-
You'd be creating AI every single time you clone someone's consciousness into a body, and last time I checked we don't need to risk more rampant AIs running around. One is plenty for a planetary network as it is if left unchecked.
That's my take
As to what's in it for the corps, more control which is a flexible way to take advantage of power
that doesn't explain why mida and arachne's doing it
Mida's a bunch of liars and arachne are religious about it
and we have a mida contract having us graffiti all over marsh lol
What youre talking about is an unanswerable question. Is the consciousness that transferred actually the original consciousness? I dont think the writers would play a gotcha like that on the basis of some obscure concept tbh
That mf is high, how are we deploying from it and now looking for a way to get there
Me when I make shit up
?
You literally see them being printed then their light turns from red to blue when they are ready
How tf are we printed on the Marathon and now looking for a way there, as far as we know the shell tech wasnt even around when the Marathon launched from Earth
it can't be VR since the theme with the shells is immortality and Arachne's purpose is because of that too, since "death" is no longer permanent but the Runner still remembers every past mistake and success
I can tell you dont know what youre talking about
Good ragebait
the question I think is "are we truly human or are we AI" which is a question proposed by Durandal
there's zero indication that shell printing facilities are on the marathon lol
Literally
Go look up a timeline when the shell printers were made and the marathon was made
the question is WHERE am I being printed and WHERE is my loot š
I took it :)
no cuz genuinely where does it state that shell printing facilities are on the ship that we're tryna crack the systems of to get access onto š
don't tell us to look give specific dates
otherwise it's hearsay at best
Says āYeah go look for the dates I know them but go find themā
this ain't us being lazy or bsing this is conversational efficiency and backing up your own claims lmao
Bro i dont understand what your problem is if you think im wrong go look it up yourself
Misinformation literally
Brainrot literally
we're not at the obligation to get sent on a wild goose chase lol
We're allowed to theorize, its a lore heavy game with an ARG
back up your own claim please
YOU are the ones asking the questions lol
yeah then give us dates š
if you're using dates to say shell printing facilities are on the marathon then give us those dates
You can theorize, but then there saying stuff with no evidence
Whoās the runner in the reveal trailer?
buddy hasn't heard of 'doesnt matter, got loot' smfh
Based on the lore, runner shells are 3D-printed in orbit of Tau Ceti using advanced "WeaveWorm" and "Neural Sync" technologies. While the exact timing of the first shell, often referred to in Marathon lore, isn't fully detailed in the snippets, the technology for these shells was developed after the Marathon (a ship) left, as part of a 300-year advancement in technology.
The shell printing, or "bioprinting," is a 3D process that allows for the creation of runner bodies for digital consciousness, often associated with corporations like Sekiguchi Genetics. These, along with the "moths" used in the loading screen, are part of the Marathonās, or simply "the game's," world.
found that on google for ya your welcome
300 year advancement
was it gemini
After the marathon left
this reads like gemini I'm sorry
