The UESC knew that the colony’s communications (and because of the time you can presume that this some form of FTL comms) was disrupted by 2795. In 2795 they sent a ship, the Equanimity to investigate, assist the colony if it still existed, and solve the problem. That journey would take nearly 100 years. Then, in 2888, this fact would leak. Traxus then sends a ship which they say will nearly catch up the Equanimity and arrive in 2893. Also by the time here you can presume this second ship is capable of FTL.

Just because they use the word "God" doesn't mean they're using the name of god inappropriately or in vain. The story of this game directly challenges the concept of using the name of God in vain. The phrase "Escape will make me God" is intended as a way to reference the need to escape the psychological abuse by some who claim to be religious leaders. The whole point of the story of any bungie game is the same. Someone claims to be inspired by a "god" to start a holy war, or someone claims to be "god" in order to get what they want.

religion is a powerful force, it can save lives. but it can also be used to control lives. so it must be carefully analyzed in every application, the safest way to start these discussions and analyses is through artistic expression. Which is what Bungie is doing through the story of their games

Okay I've been going back over the stories of the original trilogy and trying to connect it to the cinematic trailer. The premise of this new game completely contradicts the events and epilogue seen in Marathon: Durandal, so this game is definitely a continuation of Marathon: Infinity (which follows a different timeline. Marathon Durandal never happened.) Tau Ceti IV is wiped out in 2794, so the death of the agriculturalist in 2812 and the gravitational anomalies in 2827 are likely happening elsewhere. I expect the death of the agriculturalist is happening on Mars or even Earth in an event yet to be revealed to us. I believe the key to the gravitational anomaly lies in the endgame events of Infinity, where we activate a Jjaro space station to use a gravitational field to contain the nova of the star holding the W'rkncacnter. This struggle likely caused many anomalies throughout the universe as it happened.

I assume the montage of the dozens of glitches were several different "respawns" but what's up with the photos? Why does Void get the same one? Going off of the little I know my personal theory is that Durandal after visiting Earth, the only people to learn of what happened on Tau Ceti were the UESC and so with the warp drive tech decided to go back. (that's why we see the guy vomiting in 2812) and probably made continues recolinization attempts up until 2827. At which they called it quits and left behind the security bots to protect whatever it is they found there. Then only in 2892 the message from the first Marathon reach earth and the rest of the world learns about Tau Ceti IV and so now the companies are all jumping at the place for profit opportunities.
Though if I'm missing something or got something wrong please do correct me

Yeah, again I think the way they're implementing the lore and story into the gameplay could be really interesting. If done right it'll feel very immersive because each individual player has an impact on the universe and it'll make the gameplay feel way more involved. But if it's very surface level stuff then it's a massive missed opportunity for good lore and story telling. Marathon has such an amazing art-style and lore I really hope they take full advantage of it (like the cinematic which was peak sci-fi)

Humanity's complete lack of awareness regarding the Pfhor means that Durandal along with the S'pht'kr and surviving colonists led by Blake have likely been able to keep them occupied (if not completely exterminated) for the past 100 years. All my Valorant friends are excited because they really enjoyed playing both Valorant and DMZ. It sparked a lot of confidence in them when they heard Joe Ziegler became director. It was an incredibly strategic and smart move on Bungie, IMO, even if I may not agree with Joe's design choices.

That being said, I do love Apex Legends. I may have hated The Cycle: Frontier, but all my Bellevue friends who have either playtested the pre-Alpha games or worked on Marathon have assured me it won't be as sluggish or annoying as The Cycle.

I think the point of the Biomata development requiring human consciousness is an intended design, and AI being part of the cloning procedure isn't likely going to be a contending theory only because Battleroids are more likely AI or algorithm driven.

Honestly, who knows. It'd be more interesting if they WEREN'T AI, since there's more psychological horror elements to thinking about how the human psyche would be affected if consciousness could be duplicated, not replicated.

Rampancy only occurs in AI given a minial task, like Durandal, who only exhibited an awakening when it realized it was capable of doing more than just opening and closing shuttle doors for the UESC Marathon.

I'm not 100% sure I understand this question, because the teleportation machine analogy is only applicable in human psychology of, "What happens to the original? What is a soul if consciousness is duplicable?"

Like, if you want to play the question of, "Where does technology end when you've digitized your brain?" The answer is quite literally, "Wherever you want it to." Most sci-fi stories such as Cyberpunk, Blade Runner, SOMA, what-have-you basically answer that once you've been duplicated into some digital system with zero organic remains, you're a duplicate, but your consciousness is any barring level of what keeps you or other artificial versions of you grounded to some definition of "personality" or "characteristic" that defines you.

But if you're asking, "How would anyone know the difference between a shell be hosted by a human consciousness vs an AI," in general fiction, you wouldn't. But in Marathon, there's a considerate level of difference between human consciousness and AI (at least, between you and Durandal) that it's likely not going to be ventured unless UESC actually has their fulfillment order of S and P series clones from the ARG logs filled with AI.

Which, we don't know if that's a possibility, FYI. Sounds like Sekiguchi's more likely to duplicate human consciousness than to start a server to build an AI since they have the means of actually just copying human brains, so why waste time building AI?

I think we would be crazy to say cyberpunk and apex do not hold water in terms of influence for the thematic design in this game and many things that make those games cool would make this game amazing if used correctly, example (hacking optics) like we said or even (overheat hack) making enemy team move slower. Or different types of grenades like static shock or poison gas.

I just hope it can do so whilst keeping its identity as marathon. Not a copy paste kind of thing.
