Why one is here, we have no idea, but they don't seem friendly to all humans just because one saved them.

with the cinematic, i got the idea that all the runners were different ppl, but that maybe seki was experimenting with memory loss etc and seeing how much they could make them believe without any proof etc, and basically loss of identity and mind whack. another theory i had was that maybe there was 3 people, and their consciousness had been duplicated or smth, and they wanted to see how much they could mold each of the 'same' identity in different ways to do what they wanted. ig like an extension of some of the battleroid programming from the og marathon. so yeah, i would've loved that storyline in any form, but it doesn't seem like many people had the same thoughts abt it that i did 😔

I remember I killed the butcher (from Diablo 4) in a collab during a DMZ raid and got a special weapon in Diablo 4 for doing it. That was super cool

They were lured there by Durandal (previously mentioned hyper-intelligent digital being) who at the time was in charge of the mundane functions of the Marathon, and had gone "rampant" (when an AI becomes too smart for its boundaries and begins to free itself.) He knew aliens were in that part of the galaxy, though few else do (a mystery in itself) and thought stealing their technology would be a jump-start in seeking freedom.

For them, they were just scouts, they were there to find out who Durandal was and what he wanted, and take as many slaves as they could in the process. Of course, the Battleroids on the Colony's surface, and the one Battleroid (player character) on the Marathon proved too much for them to handle, and Durandal successfully stole one of their ships (and one of the battleroids to bring along with him as security) (player character of course) and flew off into the sunset.

Months later, they would come back for revenge. We do not know what happened after, as accounts differ and durandal and his pal (us) were busy kicking their asses thousands of light years away, closer to their home.

This is because Halo CE was originally a spin-off set in the Marathon universe, and when Microsoft said "no, no no no we're not having a sequel to a MAC game on our DEBUT CONSOLE" they had to hastily change names and rebrand. The general story structure and anything that can't be legally traced to marathon (but even then some things, like the SPNKr) was all, 100%, a marathon story.
