People are saying this game is gonna be heavy pvp focus with little to no social experience but I really hope not. If it's just heavy pvp for the most part, then aside from a different objective there's really nothing to set it apart in experience from any other competitive FPS, since that social aspect is part of the niche that extraction shooters fill, arc raiders proves that this is a desirable trait in a game. Marathon is not trying to attract people from other extraction shooters, it's trying to attract people from other games, so if it doesn't offer a social experience, that's another unique trait going to other titles in this genre that Marathon could have. Just my thoughts tho, still excited for the game.

I can definitely say without a doubt during my experiences in testing it is very much being shoot on sight.

If you don't want to get into combat, you avoid people and it's easy to tell if someone's coming towards you so you can backpedal.

They can always design it to appear more random by throwing an opposite match in there every 4-5 matches and give people the appearance it’s not that heavily biased but it is because empirically it appears to work

I know this is unpopular but I’m being real and not just rage baiting for once - you can actually already use LLMs to generate games on the fly that work decently well. Like side scrolling platformers and shit work well, I encourage you to try, you can even do it entirely in python using the pygame library. Just two days I made a megaman clone and played it for the evening. I don’t think we’re that far off from a future where there will be robust tools to generate games on the fly to play, not that dissimilar in idea from a Star Trek holodeck tbh

I'll be honest, I think they're scared to market the game at this point.
The antireal fiasco and april alpha really did a number on this game. The good attention this game has currently are from devoted fans who understand the situation, but once you start releasing trailers again, the people who haven't been following as closely as us are all gonna be like "oh wtf I thought this game was dead and stole art"
