I really struggled with Warframe, it’s great for the first 100hrs but after that you are sort of in a limbo. You're forgetting that during the time they were doing that, Destiny 2 was at its peak. Witch Queen was storming ahead, Lightfall stumbled because of the story but still did crazy numbers. It was only in the latter half of that time that it started to bleed. Hindsight and all that.

But they didn't know that, they thought people would want to keep playing, especially since a bunch of mysteries wouldn't be resolved. Again, hindsight.

Also, a Destiny 3 would be such a massive undertaking, a multi-year project at the least, and you can be sure itd be hard to get people to agree to move over to 3 when 2 is still live and has such a long tail. Look at something like Payday 3 versus 2. Even if they improve Payday 3, it probably wont reach the bar of 2 for many years to come.

Only way Destiny 3 would work imo is if they did a majory shift in the games hardware to allow more people on open world maps and actually went all in on the planets and open world concepts.
