At the corethis is a seasonal pvp game, and as with most pvp games on the market, they all will go this way, expect story to not be to much of a focus that'll make you have to acknowledge and have you understand it for yourself, while we can put blame on Bungie for this, this is how the market is for pvp games, story do not matter too much, the pvp does

And they'll most likely tell us to play the original trilogy for free and read up on it, since they're very supportive of the steam release and whatnot,
