I don't know how else to say that I like diversity in games. I like being challenged by the things that I choose to experience and a good way to do that is to show me someone's experience that is fundamentally different than my own in some way. It doesn't have to be race or gender but it can be
It's when you have characters that are puddle deep but try to check every box they might get criticized for it feels like regressing toward tokenism. It seems like big AAAs have gravitated toward "heroes" in multiplayer games to, idk, head off criticism or something? Not always, sometimes it's done well, and it wasn't how a hero roster originally operated. I think showcasing more types of people is better than the one black guy we got in TF2, but a lot of hero rosters don't even have half of the characterization as TF2.
That's all I mean. Since it was a later revision with Marathon it feels like a potential red flag but I'm just blowing smoke out my ass. I don't know why they're doing what they're doing

But, yes, you are more or less correct. Grounded, maybe not necessarily complex, but at least feels like someone put some heart into it. And I get that the "love factor" is pretty ambiguous but honestly too tired to extrapolate too hard

I think broad appeal can be a misnomer sometimes. Ultimately, people can connect with the human experience. Suffering, making difficult choices, finding joy in the misery, etc makes any character universal. I tend to agree with you in the sense that opening up the playing field for more diverse characters is great but, at the end of the day, people can relate to a game about a dog that eats it's own feces if it's done well enough

You can get fully cleaned out and spend all of your gear here and the game will just keep giving you free kits. The revive system is incredibly lazy here too. You can be revived, and I think thats fine. But full kill is just a longer revive mechanic. Something that would fit well with this universe is pulling something off of a dead teammates body, and taking it to a POI or revive point that prints them a new shell. Maybe even alerts the map of that action.

They stopped caring about who really plays cod. I’ve played cod since World at War, and it increasingly got better in terms of quality and depth up until Modern Warfare 2019. After 2019, the direction of the gameplay was made to be as accessible to EVERYONE as possible. In short, they oversimplified it to appease sweats.

On top of the loss of identity. COD used to care about what it was portraying, now it’s trying to be mission impossible.

i mean if you have 1500 in a beta you have to pre order to get access to then get like 200 players once it releases that means 1300 people played it and refunded...it was never gonna work

Much of the negativity was overblown and hyperbole fueled by rampant speculation over rumors from rage-baiting creators cashing in on the controversy. The art controversy was legitimate, but the reaction was totally bonkers.

I also had fun playing the alpha. It needs some work, but the foundations were pretty solid. It was only a slice of gameplay and it seems like people grew bored with it quickly, which could spell trouble unless there are plans for a lot more content on release.

As someone who actually got the chance to try it, the game was a literal pile of doo doo, the gameplay was decent but there was no real innovation. They were severely lacking in character design (which is kinda essential for a hero shooter) and the story writing downright sucked.

Story writing for overwatch was "yea people and robots fought and now they work for different groups that are basically the avengers and Hydra!" And it's still one of the best selling games. Character design was literally an intro cinematic and voice lines that make my ears bleed

Well look at mmo games that went f2p, they end up ruining good mechanics with paywalls.

And sure Fortnite did damage but Fortnite gave players so much for being a f2p game with battle passes and every greedy company wanted to be like them so badly they started shoveling out crap in paid games. Look at call of duty.

we live in a time where the market is over saturated as well so it depends on luck and word of mouth. there are also well competent games that i think are good but the mass dont seem to be aware them or think their good. scores and reviews can do damage but lately that also means nothing. look at starfield
