I played standard edition for roughly 3 wipes, and then upgraded to EOD and omg the game became about 50% easier and way less stressful, a little too easy... like I wasn't even having fun at that point

I think one major reason a lot of people are angry is because of the direction change. Marathon changed directors and they changed from a class based to hero shooter and from graphic realism to graphic simplified. It's a big change and a lot of people didn't expect this. Me neither

alright arc stans I want you to answer a question for me. dead serious. what actually makes arc unique? what's interesting about it compared to other extrac shooters? tarkov has deep simulation, a complex fallout-like health system, loads of different items contributing to a nuanced economy and looting game, and absurd weapon customization.

hunt showdown has a wide and highly varied sandbox of quirky guns, traits, tools and consumables while also incorporating environmental hazards and other light immersive sim elements.

for as much of a joke as it may sound, marathon has heroes and abilities, which are unique in the extraction space. it also has dynamic map events and secrets as well as some pretty beefy AI.

what does arc have? what's the selling point?

i absolutely love arc's crafting system, such a brilliant and elegant way to make the game more accessible.
new players wont understand the quality or the uses of the loot they collect.
for example, sensory components, what the fuck is a sensory component, i have no clue what it does, but it doesnt matter, if i dont know what it does then its just spare parts, i can just salvage them into metal parts and rubber parts, and make things i actually want with them

Sound immersion, quality of lighting and environments, gun fights that last and are intense, solo que, duos, trios, controller support, variety of weapons that all feel great and fun to use, easy to understand UI including quests, traders, stash, and a great community behind it now to last as long as many of the giants in the gaming community. Honestly the thing that truly sets it apart is all the fine details like damn they thought about the little things so much and it just flows well, you can feel the development teams passion while playing!

Maybe someoen can answer you better but I honestly cant tell you straight up what makes it unique. BUT I will say that I feel like it does everything that it does, it does right which doesnt sound like much but is huge in gaming. The only con i mainly see is the third person aspect. Other t han that it is a very solid game to where its hard to necessarily hate on it while being really fun(subjective but majority). You could prob watch every arc raider vid on youtube and 95% of them prob enjoyed it and want to see more. It just shows alot of promise

Here's MY personal take, just MY okay.
Firstly, I trust Embark, and I don't trust Bungie yet because I've played more Embark games than Bungie. Simple as that.
Secondly, I absolutely LOVE retrofuturism, and imo, Arc does it so well with everything visual, auditory and feeling wise.
And there's one thing I look forward to in live service games and that is "what keeps me playing this more than a few wipes" and the answer is per-match adventures and experiences. I know that every game plays different in every extraction shooter, but mix the prox chat and the robots being a big thread and the uniqueness of physics based robots and the theme and everything else, it makes each match really unique, reminds me of Rust. And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that this fixes my issue of long term goals or not being repetitive, I'm just saying that in these 5 days, I got more of that "i wnana play more" feeling than any other game this year

my favorite mechanic from arc is the chicken, its just so fucking smart, obviously the devs wants you to have a way to start over from nothing after you die and lose everything. lesser devs would just give you a free starter pack, maybe multiple starter packs to chose from, but arc offer you scraps for you to craft the equipments you want. which you gives you options at the same time, gives a sense of control, and enhances the quality of player engagement. but what i like the most about the chicken is the fact that its a chicken, if the face they gave this mechanic is a person, it might seems...condescending, as if its a charity to give you scraps, if its a scavenger robot, then its too clear that its just a mechanic you just take it for granted, the chicken is such a perfect balance, because it gives you a sense of wonder, like what the fuck how did this chicken get these crap

the late spawn mechanic is a part of overal looting flow. A few teams will extract in the first 10 mins with a full backpack, because there are quite a lot of loot around. So to keep lobby full you get new teams appearing up to 50% of the match. and you still have no issues to loot and extract fool
I personally found this to be a good approach and never had any issues with it
